Character name: Alina Carnell
School Year or Adult Level: First year
Link to the character page:

Biography: Alina was born to Paul and Diana Carnell on July 17th, 2013 in Portland, Oregon. She was born a month early when her parents were visiting relatives in the United States. As such Alina gained both British citizenship and American citizenship. Alina is the younger sister to Markus, who is five years her senior. Her family resides in Swansea, Wales on a property that backs up to a large woodland preserve. When she was younger, Alina would spend a lot of time outside in the woods building forts with her brother and using sticks to sword fight and play fantasy games in the woods. To which her parents always admonished her brother because Alina would come in covered in scratches and the occasional cut from rough housing with her brother.

Alina didn’t play a lot of video games as a young child with the most notable of them being Minecraft. She was also weirdly good at both Monopoly and Risk and as such neither were allowed to be played in the house.

When Alina was younger, Markus was learning to play the Violin. Neither of their parents were too musically inclined with her father being able to play a few songs on the piano. As such, when she reached the age of eight, Markus began to teach her how to play. She naturally excelled which was surprising to the family, and she continued to play even after Markus quit when he started high school.

Paul Carnell is a local journalist. Diana Carnell is a veterinarian. Markus had an affinity and excelled in History. Despite that, Alina found a fascination in math and chemistry in late elementary school. She was well above her reading level, with the Lord of the Rings books being her favorite series. Her favorite movies were the Pirate of the Caribbean movies.

The family rescued their dog Arwen after she was abandoned at Diana’s Vet clinic. Arwen is a small beagle who loves to roam around the yard and collect sticks. She often sleeps at the foot of Alina’s bed when given free roam of the house.

First Instance of Magic: At age 9, Alina and her classmates were given an experiment regarding the very basics of density. The experiment involved a test tube, a piece of paper towel, and a bowl filled with water. The goal was to keep the piece of paper towel from getting wet, which her group figured out, but when she dunked it back in---it still didn't get wet. Even when she put the paper in by itself, she was always able to pull it out dry.

Character Backstory: Adam lives a happy life with Boucher family despite their magical name they are all muggle-born. He lives day to day in muggle schools wondering about magic since it affected him if it really exists or he was just imagining it. There were bullies in his life but they were dealt with aptly with a good ol' one two punch and they never bothered him again. Adam first lived in Canada Hamilton but moved to England Ilkeston when he turned Eleven. He played hockey from time to time but favored baseball above all as it was his favorite past time. When he lived in Canada there wasn't any downtime as he helped his father in the kitchen cook meals for the family and cut potatoes for customers in his family's restaurant. His mother was always working as a lawyer in a big law firm overseas so he didn't spend much time with her but all was well in his eyes as he always had a skype call from his computer. When he was in a muggle school he was surrounded by potato heads in a manner of speaking. They bored him with their talk of their social lives or their newest gadget to play with. They excluded him from their conversations as he was always pressed to listen on from a distance instead of being allowed into their social circles during class or outdoors on the playground. He was never invited to play games but when the school forced the students to play together he was always playing sports among them happily as it was the only time he was able to be a part of their activities. During his free time he was picked on for being strange or for his poor grades. But that never bothered him, his happiest times were at home when he held a knife over potatoes to slice them up for his dad or when he worked on a project with him by baking a cake for his mom's arrival, when she visited Ilkeston to work there she was so happy it brought joy to his belly. His mom came from across the world just to see him and work closer to home at this time so his family was now complete.

First Instance of Magic: Adam's first instance of magic is where he cast a blackout upon a school during a time of distress, it was in his own muggle school and he was being chased by bullies. He closed his eyes and wished to disappear and henceforth every light in his school went out just like that.

The first instance of intuition happened when I was 5, when my parents and I were walking around the streets of a city we were visiting for a special occasion. We were about to cross the street when the sign to walk appeared, all of us hand-in-hand, yet I seemed uncomfortable with crossing. My parents, still holding my hands and noticing my odd behavior, stopped as well to ask what was wrong. They were confused why I wasn't walking and wanted to know why, when a car sped by, where we would have been, speeding past their red light. Both my parents were shocked at the high chance we all could have been hit, and they asked me why I chose to stop and if I saw the car not slowing down. I told them I had a bad feeling, and my mind told me not to cross, so I didn’t. My father attributed this to luck, but my mother suspected some form of magic, yet it was still too early to tell. There were a few more occasions throughout the years (and after my FIOM as I would be 9 now) of my instances of intuition. Most of the time, I helped others, as well as myself, to avoid danger. Such examples would include: not letting my friends chase after an object (such as a ball, as many times it was) into the street of our neighborhood, as cars speed past quite often; and preventing childhood accidents like breaking bones from doing tricks on a trampoline and avoiding weak branches when climbing trees. There were even times at home I would let my parents know, such as the oven/stove being left on, and papers almost being lit on fire from a candle. Other times I would guess who would win races, even with people I don’t know. Over time, my mother, the witch-blood, started to suspect magic. After talking with my father, they decided to look into both of their heritage for any sign of Seer magic. After months of digging, they didn’t find anything of any importance on my mother’s side; but they found a distant relative on my father’s side, my father’s great grandmother, that there were stories about. These stories told of instances where she could make things float, emit light from her fingers, and many more; yet these were just stories. There was one thing that stood out to my mother: that there were times that my father’s great grandmother was said to intensely zone out, only to wake again and tell the future. My mother then went to the Wizarding world to look in the databases for any record of my father’s great grandmother. After hours and even days of looking, she finally found something: my father’s great grandmother was a pure-blood wizard, as well as a Seer. She returned home with the news, and they were finally glad to have answers, and now know the very real possibility that I inherited the ability of Seer.

Character Backstory:
Reducio
I was born to a muggle father and a witch mother and lived in a suburban muggle area. I grew up around magic, as my mother used it around the house for chores, convenience, and playing with me. Growing up, I was told to keep the use of magic secret, as society may not accept it, and I kept the secret (not like adults would trust the word of an imaginative child anyway). When I was 5, my parents and I visited a more urbanized town for a special occasion, when I stopped my parents from crossing an intersection, effectively preventing them from being hit by a car (which was attributed to luck at the time). As I grew up, I prevented more disasters, such as my friend falling from a tree (told them not to grab a weak branch), and accurately guessed events (such as who would win a race among my classmates). When I was 9, and after many more of these occasions and my FIOM at 7, my mother started to suspect something other than luck to be the reason behind my accurate predictions. After a talk with my father and looking into both of their ancestry, it was revealed my father's distant grandmother was a Seer, leading to the possibility I was also one. This added with the few strands of white in my hair made this possibility almost a 100%. When I got my letter for Hogwarts, I was excited to finally learn about magic and about my abilities as a Seer.

At the age of 7, I was playing on the floor of my living room, as it was stormy outside, when I sneezed. This caused a small gust of wind to come from my body, making papers and small/light objects blow slightly away.

History/background story: Bree Grey was born on Sept. 9th 2012. Her parents names are Lily and Matthew Grey. Her parents are great people but she was raised mostly by her grandma because her parents were always traveling. They took her with them sometimes. Her parents were Slytherins but her grandma was a Gryffindor. She is a single child and found herself wishing for a younger or older sister. Her grandmother is great company and also is a great person. Bree tries to be like her grandma. She loves parties, any type. When she was younger her parents would throw a party every birthday. That stopped when she turned six. Her parents became too busy to do anything. Her grandma would take her to the muggle world when her grandma was visiting her friend. Bree ended up becoming best friends with her grandma's muggle born friend. Her best friend's name is Alice Marcus. Her grandma became accepting of the muggle world because of Hogwarts. When her grandmother was sorted into gryffindor her dorm mate was a muggle born. For a while her grandmother didn't know that. After 2 months of living together they became best friends and she made a confession. She told her grandma that she was a muggle born. Her grandmother spat "mudblood" at her and left. 3 weeks past and her grandmother went up to her friend. She said that she was sorry for calling her a mudblood and it shouldn't matter what your blood status is to become friends with someone. The girl forgave her and they became best friends again. After that her grandmother was taught the all people should be treated fairly. Even if they are muggle born. Her grandma taught Bree that so growing up she was fascinated with the muggle world and loved hearing all about it from her grandma. Her grandma would bring books from the muggle world. She loves to read and write. Unlike her mother she isn't very judgy. She accepts all types of people. When she was bored at home she would go outside and climb the trees and sit up there reading or writing. Her favorite place to go to was America. She's been there a few times when she was younger with her parents. Her father, who also loved to read, would take her to Flourish and Blotts. When she got her letter accepting her into hogwarts her parents were very excited. Her childhood memories are filled with the joy of hanging out with her grandma and learning new things about people

First Instance of Magic:

Bree's first instance of magic happened when she was 4. She was playing teaparty when she got the idea of using real tea and real cakes. She got up and asked her parents. First she asked her mom. She said no. Then she asked her dad. He also said no. She started to get angry and yelled. Her parents started yelling too then the books on the bookshelves started flying off of the shelves. Her parents were startled at first then got super happy.
STATUS: Pending, Lawrence Maynard, 16th April
Reasons for Pending:
- You need to have the first instance of magic and the updated expanded history that you have written here in your ency before I can approve this.
- It is not very common for purebloods to accept muggles or muggleborns so we may need you to expand a little more about this. Purebloods are not just the result of a long list of entirely wizarding line (like wizardborn) but a societal group who believe themselves to be pure. It is not impossible to have this story but we may need a little more about how your grandmother came to be so accepting of such things.

Character Backstory:
On February 22, 1979, Villanelle Lenore DuPont was born in Paris to Cassiopeia DuPont formerly La Rue, a Pureblood socialite and Nathaniel DuPont, a Pureblood politician.

Not much can be said about her early life because her parents kept her hidden from the public until she went to Beauxbatons, where she excelled and graduated top of her class, she then moved to Cuba to pursue a career as an Unspeakable. As it happens, she also met the loves of her life Thaddeus Rodriguez, a pureblood Auror that was born in the Portugal, and Vivian Boudreau, a self proclaimed halfblood fashionista from France, in Cuba. While it wasn’t love at first sight, they were as fond of her as she was them before getting into a relationship.

While she was their mutual but unmarried partner, they did have 5 children together, the two eldest twins Amelie Lenore and Kieran Gabriel, the middle children (twins) Beatrix Theodora and Florian Maven and the youngest before Cherry, Victor Harlow. They’d moved to Paris after Victor was born so Villanelle’s parents could get to know the children, while they were there Vivian fell with child. It shocked them because she was told her body wouldn’t be able to conceive a child but they were all ecstatic nonetheless.

The pregnancy was a whirlwind because she hadn’t been pregnant before, she wasn’t prepared for being essentially in bed rest. During the pregnancy, she constantly felt lightheaded and more often than not threw up after eating but despite this, healers assured everyone that there was nothing wrong with her or the baby. A few excruciatingly long months later, she was in a hospital in the process of bringing life into the world.

On September 8, 2012, Vivian Boudreau gave birth to Cerise Lunette Rodriguez-Boudreau, she adored the baby in all her pale, grey-eyed glory. Everyone was taken was the small child but Beatrix was even more so.

As Cherry grew up her family doted on her more, Vivian’s pregnancy had gone and made them believe that she was fragile, like a porcelain doll. After her 4th birthday, they moved to Edinburgh after both Villanelle and Thaddeus were offered jobs at the British Ministry of Magic, and Amelie and Kieran were already Beauxbatons graduates while Beatrix hadn’t gotten a letter of acceptance there because it wasn’t yet August 22 which meant she would be going to Hogwarts along with the others.

Once they were settled in Scotland, Cherry was more attentive than in her recent years, she noticed that her older sister, Beatrix, was more protective than everyone else and that her mother was in the process of opening her own business which was the cause of all of the house elves and nannies showing up to watch the rest of them.

Her main nanny’s name was Cosette, she was a fresh Hogwarts graduate and mainly spoke to her in French. Her parents, ever so overprotective, didn’t want her to go to one of the community primary schools which resulted in Cosette being her tutor as well as nanny. She was surprised to know that Cosette had gotten almost all of her OWLs and chose to be a nanny of all things.

Cosette believed in a different approach to Cherry’s syllabus, allowing her to choose what languages she wanted to learn and what subjects to do first etc.

Cherry once heard the quote, “Knowledge is power,” so she chose multiple languages, wanting learn as much as her little mind could digest. Despite her lack of interest in making friends, she was well acquainted with a large number of muggles and wizards in her neighborhood, shockingly she was able to balance her thirst for knowledge and socializing very well.

Her parents were still in her life even if they had busy schedules, her mère, mother, and father loved her and her siblings dearly. Her mother had a successful bakery and often brought her baked treats, and her mère somehow transitioned easily from ministry work to owning a flower shop, and had helped Cherry discover her green thumb which worked especially with roses.

Her siblings, despite being stuck at Hogwarts most of the year, owled her constantly, especially Bea. Her relationship with all of her family members is fickle but with Bea, it was more terrifying but safe, Bea wasn’t mad but she always seemed like it with her strange behavior. Cherry loved her sister but even she had to admit that Bea was a special case and constantly had to walk on eggshells with her to avoid causing her to have sudden bouts of overprotectiveness.

Cherry was a white rose in a sea of red roses, she was the only one of her siblings to avoid the dark hair and eyes that her mother (and mère) have, she was all Thaddeus in the looks department, the same pale skin and light hair and eyes but her father’s eyes are a darker blue than hers (or rather her right eye). They are sure that the green (left) eye came from her father’s side because his younger sister, her aunt Agatha, has green eyes.

Despite the twists and turns of her life, Cherry was happy to have been born into such an amazing family. Once her 11th birthday arrived, she was pleased to get her Hogwarts letter while she was tending to her roses in her family greenhouse. She’d barely managed to contain her excitement and almost pricked her finger on a particularly sharp thorn

Her parents got her a snake and a chimera cat as per her birthday wish. She named the snake after Cosette, whose name means ‘Little Thing’ and the cat was named Bea because of her behavioral similarities to Cherry’s sister. She was briefly put off when she was told that they couldn’t take their personal pets to Hogwarts but relented once she was told by her mère that she would get another pet from Diagon Alley.
First Instance of Magic:
She had just turned 5 and was spending time with her less than likable cousins, Silena and Zinnia, at her birthday party. Silena had made a nasty comment about her ‘polluted blood’ and how disappointed their grandmother must be, Zinnia wasn’t saying anything rude but she wasn’t stopping Silena, which angered Cherry.

She could feel the blood rushing to her cheeks in an angry flush and glared at the two girls, one moment they were normal and the next, the two girls had neon green hair and were yelling for their mother. Cherry felt bad that Zinnia was caught in the crossfire but didn’t pay her any mind after Bea, who had gotten to the scene of the ‘crime’ first, had picked her up and told her that she was getting an extra slice of cake as an award for standing up for herself. It was her very first act of revenge that started a long line of them.

Desislava's birthplace is connected to the ocean with it's seaside resort industry and general beauty of the ocean. Desislava has always had a deep connection to the ocean, its creatures, and the emotional resonance that it has over the earth and her humans. Something about the sprits of the ocean have always resonated deeply within Desislava's life with much of her belief and intuition coming from the connection that she has to water in general She learned this practice and to keep an open mind about her ability to communicate with the waters. Her great-great-great grandfather was a Seer but after four generations it seemed as though the trait had died out until Desislava was born. From the age of about six or seven, she experienced very basic intuitive skills such as badic deja vu and moderate clarivoyance seeming to know situations such as asking when her younger brother would be born before her mother knew she was pregnant. Of course this was not normal for young children -especially given the fact that there had not been Seer skills in the Nenovsky line for nearly four generations.

Her moderate intuition and nonsensical faux-prophecizing wasn't truly looked at until 2010 when she was in her third year of education at Koldovstoretz when provoked only by a spilling of some grape juice which led to the creation of the following prophecy,

Reducio
The Earth remembers, she tells us so
And we move past it too naive to know
A monster lurks unseen by all
Until the many begin to fall

A red breath shuns all power
The danger rises by the hour
And clouds of white descend with pride
Yet they will not force the beast to hide

Take heed with love but find compassion
Without the latter, loss is fashion
Red shadows will emerge so vile
Tears and sweat, blood and bile
And just when fire will grace the sky
The curse is gone but will never die

It would not be known until 2014 that this prophecy regarded the Ebola Outbreak in Africa.

Immediately following the creation of the prophecy, it was discovered that she was indeed a Seer and she was ushered away from the dining hall as her peers began to panic over whatever it is Desislava had just predicted given the nature of the words she spoke and the danger that seemed iminent. Desislava was brought to the office of one of her professors who after protecting her from total expulsion revealed that they had been in contact with one of the Dukun's of Tenūsa after they began to suspect her of bearing Seer abilities and some discussion with her parents about the family history. Desislava was eventually accepted to Tenūsa to help harness her Seer abilities. She was able to keep a wrap on most of her abilities and began her tradition of dyeing her hair back from the natural silver-white that Seer's are accustomed too. The transition to Tenūsa allowed Desislava to fully focus on her abilities and harness her prowess in Hydromancy and Scrying particularly, and while exploring various spots around the Polynesian Islands and Pacific Ocean, she continued her studies of the other side and how to open her Inner Eye more advertantly.
Character Backstory: This needs to be 220 words (maximum 2K words) on its own. In validations the entire application with your appearance and first magic needed to total 220 words, so for many of you we will be looking for you to expound upon your character.

Reducio
Desislava Nenovsky is a well attuned witch and native of the town of Pomorie, Bulgaria. She now works as the current Professor of Divination at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry having stepped into the position on April 14th, 2025. While not a Hogwarts graduate, Desislava is no stranger to the interational waters of Magic as she was once both a Koldostorvez student and later a student at Tenūsa after an unfortunate incident led to her "outing" herself as a Seer. Her pre-education life was simple, much of the days were spent on the shores of her hometown. Drawn to the ocean, Desislava is quite the Thalassophile and spends a good portion of her daily life engaged in some sort of aquatic activity, primarily swimming with her collection of silicone mermaid tails, a muggle contraption she happened upon on a trip to an Aquarium for the first time.

Desislava's family is small but prominent in the Wizarding community. Comprised of her parents, Dimitri and Agneka, her oldest brother Hristofer and her younger brother Ivan, they are a polite family who keep to themselves mostly but hold the highest regard for knowledge and the betterment of their minds and psyche. Notable members of their family include the Seer, Atanas Nenovsky who is Desislava's great-great-great-grandfather. It was believeed that the Seer gene had passed out of their family since it had been nearly five generations before it resurfaced.

The Nenovsky's are the owners and operators of a bookstore called "Pismen Stsenariĭ" or "Written Script" which sells books of all nature, but has a lengthy selection of Magical History and Magical Creatures. Before her time at Hogwarts, Desislava always dreamed about taking over the store when her parents decide to retire and following in their footsteps to study and expound upon the knowledge of other magical races and species. Her father studies Hippogriffs and her mother studies the Fae. However until her youngest brother graduates from Koldovstoretz, her parents -Dmitri and Agneka- have decided to keep their store open. Desislava makes frequent trips to see them whenever she inquires about the

During her original educational tenure at Koldovstoretz, she went mostly unnoticed until her Inner Eye awoke for the very first time and led to a prediction about the 2014 Ebola Outbreak in Africa. The unfortunate outing of herself would have had her forcibly removed if not for a helpful professor who managed to secure her a spot at the Tenūsa school in which she was able to spend her time focusing on the complexities that came with being both a Seer and a witch. Upon her graduation, Desislava travelled the Pacific Islands in search of more information about the history and subject of Divination. Her talents are geared towards more Hydromancy and Scrying but she dabbles in all forms of the subject.

Outside of school, Desislava is a talented surfer and inquisitive diver. She spends a lot of her free time at the beach and contemplates life as she compiles research for a book she plans on publishing about the secrets between Divination and the Ocean. Having so much time spent at the beach, she has learned to live around Muggles despite not interacting with them. When not working, she currently resides in the small island town of Moorea Maiao on the island of Mo'orea island with her pond of koi fish and the surfboard she is currently crafting by hand in the traditional islander way.

When she is not working, she spends her time volunteering in the community based cleanups of the beach and islands around the Pacific, working on her book, as well as studying the Mermaid culture across the globe and under the sea. She has been studying Mermaids for years and is quite competent in communitcating with them under the water even if they seem confused by her silicone tails that she wears to swim in. She's gotten pretty proficient at swimming with such a contraption and uses magic to make the tail fit lighter on her legs and prevent fatigue.

First Instance of Magic: This should have already been written to pass validations. We just want a copy written in this application so we have a record of this.

Desislava's first instance of magic was simple. Around the age of five, aside from the minor intuitive properties she was exhibiting, she managed to accidentally stick her feet to the floorboards of the kitchen after she was being chastised for stealing a snack from the cupboard. After a couple seconds she was freed but in her panic from being caught and the guilt from stealing sweets she got herself stuck.

Natasha Devereux was born on a dark and stormy night of the twelfth month of the year, to a great pure blood family in northern England. The Devereuxes were what one would call, "old money", and as such possessed many of the elitist views which were typically associated with it. As their only daughter, a lot of pressure was placed on Natasha from a young age - etiquette, academics, appearances - everything had to be perfect. Her parents had both been very well-accomplished during their time at Hogwarts, and insisted upon Natasha doing the same, pushing her to always do better.

This resulted in Natasha’s growing resentment, and when the time came for her to go to Hogwarts, she did her best to be the opposite of what they wanted in a daughter. Getting into Gryffindor, breaking rules on a daily basis, bottom of the academic barrel - it all drove her parents mad. But perhaps the biggest blow was when after graduating, Natasha got into a relationship with a young man named Alexander, who held an unnaturally corpse-like complexion. That, amongst other factors, gave them the suspicion that he was in fact, a vampire and informed their daughter as such. She simply waved off their concerns, certain they were just upset that she had shunned the appropriate pure-blood suitors they had presented her with.

However, their suspects soon turned out to be correct. When Natasha found out she was pregnant, Alexander told her the truth of his nature, and left to her chagrin. Unbeknownst to her, his abrupt departure was due to the work of her family, guilting Alexander into believing that a vampire would only bring trouble to Natasha and his unborn child. Angry and unwilling to be subject to the patronization of her family, Natasha scrounged up some money and left for Wales, settling into a small one-bedroom apartment and work as a waitress.

Natasha had never wanted a son at nineteen, especially a dhampir who reminded her of the love who had in her mind, abandoned her. She was never abusive in any way, but Arafat at times felt that the causal indifference was worse. Natasha wanted to get into the showbiz, and was always adamant that her big break would come despite all the signs pointing to the opposite. Thus they were never particularly comfortable financially, and Rafal developed a rather cynical view of the world from a young age.

Natasha decided not to tell her son or anyone about his true parentage, in hopes of leaving that unpleasant part of her life behind. As far as Rafal was aware, his father had left the moment he found out his mother was pregnant, and never looked back. His unnaturally pale skin and tendency to burn in the sun was impossible to hide, but Natasha simply chalked it up to a skin condition. Rafal never found reason to question what he’d been told his entire life, and the Devereuxes' private nature discouraged anyone from prying too much into their lives, so that no one suspected at all that anything was ever amiss.

Character Backstory:
Reducio
Rafal Devereux did not have the most conventional childhood. His father left before he was even born, and while his mother Natasha Devereux was from a very well-off pure blood line, she had always felt suffocated under their rules and expectations, leading to a fair amount of pent-up resentment toward her family. Their disapproval of her pregnancy lead her to move away to Wales, far from their influence. She wanted to be in the showbiz and took a job as a waitress in the meantime, waiting and hoping for her big break. Throughout the years, she never attempted to find a better position, certain that her opportunity was just around the corner, despite years of disappointment. As a result, they weren’t very comfortable financially, and Rafal developed a rather pragmatic view of the world from a young age.

While his mother was never abusive in any way, he sometimes felt that the casual indifference was worse in a way. No matter what he tried - from baking cakes for her birthday, helping out with chores, or teaching himself to play the piano - nothing worked to gain her praise. He was desperate for the approval his mother seemed intent on withholding, and nothing really changed until Rafal’s Hogwarts letter arrived. Natasha seemed enthused for the first time, and Rafal resolved to be the best once he arrived at Hogwarts.
First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
Rafal’s First Instance of Magic occurred at age ten - rather late compared to other wizarding children, though at that point he was just glad it had happened at all. It was his mother’s birthday, and he had decided to surprise her by making a cake, more in an attempt for her approval than anything else - not that he would have ever admitted it. Alas, just as he had finished decoration and was moving it to the kitchen table, he slipped and to his horror, he lost hold of the cake and it fell, about to be destroyed before his eyes. But just before it hit the ground, the cake seemed to slow down, and landed on the floor utterly intact.

Alyssa's mother, Sadie Montague, comes from a family of traditional purebloods who are vehemently abhorrent of muggles. Sadie's parents had always dismissed her love for muggleborn Theron Trevelyan as the fleeting crush of a teenage girl. At least she's off gallivanting with a wizard, they thought. That was still preferable over a muggle boy. So when Sadie announced her engagement to Theron, the Montagues were furious. The magical bloodline of the Montagues simply could not be tainted by some muggle in-laws who knew nothing about honor, tradition, or the proud heritage of the family. They refused to attend the wedding or respond to Sadie's owls. Still, Sadie sent an owl every year in hopes of receiving a reply one day. But the owls stopped the summer Alyssa turned nine.

That summer, Alyssa and her parents had gone on a camping trip with Uncle Morris, Aunt Gina and her cousin Tom. They were going to spend three days camping in a forest and fishing at the nearby lake with beautiful views of the mountains. It was the first time the Trevelyans had done this together. Uncle Morris was always picking up a new hobby every year. But Alyssa didn't mind; She quite enjoyed the adventure she was on.

The first morning on the trip, Alyssa was rudely awakened by a loud yelp outside her family's tent. There was a lot of yelling and shouting, and it seemed like something was wrong. As she pulled on her shoes and rushed out of the tent, she was greeted with the sight of Tom and Uncle Morris squaring up with something on the ground. Tom was only wearing one shoe, which looked pretty ridiculous, and gripping a long stick tightly in one hand, while his other held his missing shoe. Uncle Morris was holding a pot in one hand and its lid in another, looking ready to capture whatever it was that had them so on edge. As her gaze fell on the ground, she saw a grey snake with a black zig-zag pattern that ran down it's length, baring its fangs defensively at the pair.

"Oh hi, Lyssa," Tom said never taking his eyes off the snake. "Just woke a snake who was taking a nap in my shoe. He's a little pissed now, if you can't tell."

"Blimey!" Uncle Morris yelled when the snake hissed and took a lunge at his hand. "Why don't you go look for your father and mother near the lake, lass? I'm sure they can work their magic somehow and solve this snake problem."

But Alyssa wasn't listening to them anymore. She was looking at the snake in quiet disbelief. She could've sworn she just heard the snake speak. "Do not touch me, you filthy humanssss," it hissed. Alyssa thought she must still be groggy from her sleep, but the snake had paused its attack and was looking right at her. "You hear me, special one," it hissed, uncoiling to move towards her. "Tell them to sssstop."

"Watch out, Lyssa!" Tom yelled, flinging his stick in front of the snake. He wasn't freaking out at all, which meant they probably couldn't hear it speak. It must only be Alyssa who understood it.

"Wait! Don't hurt it," she shouted. Feeling strangely brave, she took a cautious step towards it with her hands out with open palms. Tom stopped waving the stick, but still held it in place between them. "I don't think it means any harm."

"We won't hurt you," she said to the snake, hoping it would understand English. "We'll leave you in peace if you leave us in peace too."

"I wouldn't have attacked if they didn't throw me out of the sssshoe first," it said, pointing its tail in Tom and Uncle Morris' direction.

"Terribly sorry about that, Ms Snake," she replied. "He's not a very bright child." She flashed a cheeky grin at Tom, expecting him to retort with a comeback, but he only stood there staring at her with wide eyes. He must be really shocked that the snake understands English, she thought.

"Indeed," the snake hissed. "I just want to take a nap..." With that, it slithered away into the bushes with a sigh.

Uncle Morris let out a low whistle as the snake disappeared. "You don't see that every day," he mumbled.

"What did you say to make it leave?" Tom asked, throwing the stick onto the ground and pulling his shoe on.

"You guys were right there. Didn't you hear me?" she laughed.

"Yeah, but you were hissing and everything. It's not like we understood you," he said.

What?, she thought. But before she could ask him anything, her parents had arrived back at the tents with Aunt Gina.

"Theron!" Uncle Morris greeted happily. "Why'd you never tell me you could talk to animals?"

"What do you mean?" he asked. And Uncle Morris recounted whatever happened earlier to them. At the end of it, Alyssa's father was laughing anxiously and her mother had gone as white as a sheet.

That night, her mother sat Alyssa down and told her all about parselmouths and how she should keep her talent hidden. Thankfully, Uncle Morris, Aunt Gina and Tom just thought it was a common talent magical people had. But it had a controversial reputation in the wizarding world. Her mother never explained where she could have gotten her ability from, but knowing it was hereditary, it must have come from her mother's family.

In truth, the Montagues have a long history of parselmouths in the family. Though, the gift would usually skip a few generations, so Sadie never thought her daughter would inherit the gift. Knowing her estranged family would very likely take advantage of Alyssa's rare ability if they found out about it, Sadie stopped writing letters to her family and completely disappeared from their lives.
Character Backstory:
Reducio
All her life, Alyssa grew up in a loving and all-around normal wizarding family. They did their house chores with magic, grew magical plants, and an owl dropped by with the Daily Prophet every morning. There were plenty of photos in the house, most moving but some still in its frame. Those were usually of her father's muggle family. Alyssa's father (Theron Trevelyan) is the first of his family to be a wizard. His family embraced his special talent with open arms and were always intrigued by the wonders of magic. His brother, Morris, and his wife, Gina, are aware of his magical abilities and keep mum about it. Their son, Tom, is a close childhood friend of Alyssa's.

Alyssa's mother (Sadie Montague) comes from a family of traditional purebloods who are vehemently abhorrent of muggles. Because she chose to marry Theron, she is estranged from her family and elitist friends. However, she never told Alyssa anything about the Montagues, for fear that Alyssa would feel hurt or unwanted.

Alyssa is the precious only child of the Trevelyan family. Being home-schooled by her mother, she never had very many friends (unless you counted her muggle cousin, Tom). So, she often spent her time playing alone in the backyard, reading books, or replicating experiments she read about in those young scientist magazines Tom shared with her. Her Uncle Morris must have pitied her lonely childhood, and would bring her and Tom to the nearby playground whenever she visited their home. It wasn't often, but Alyssa enjoyed moments where she could be in the company of other children.

Her fun was short-lived, though. After she made little Willie grow a moustache, her mother forbade Uncle Morris from bringing her to the playground again. She insisted it was because the neighbourhood wasn't safe for young girls, but Alyssa knew it was because her family was too odd. Magic seemed more of a bane than a boon.

After that, her visits to Tom's home were confined to the house. Although she could no longer play with the muggle children, she still enjoyed spending time with her cousin. She would look forward to days when she visited Tom, or when her father had friends over. Oddly, her mother never had friends or family over. But at times, Alyssa would catch her fiddling with a locket she always wore, gazing into the distance as if she were remembering a far-off memory.
First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
It happened when Alyssa was seven. She had been spending a weekend over at Tom's place, and Uncle Morris had brought her and Tom to the playground. They were playing imaginary pirates with some other muggle children in the neigbourhood, and Alyssa was giving orders as the captain of the ship. But a boy named Willie started claiming he should be the captain instead because Alyssa was too little. That's when she started to get angry. I'm not little, she thought. I'm a fully capable captain! But the other kids had started agreeing with Willie and Alyssa's face was getting warmer. She felt so utterly humiliated.

Then, Willie pushed her to the side so he could take the helm and her eyes started to burn. That's when Tom stepped in and started arguing with Willie. Honestly, Alyssa couldn't hear what they were yelling at each other. She was just trying not to sob and feeling so very angry.

That's when one of the kids yelled, “Willie, your lip!” Poor little eight-year-old Willie had started sprouting a long, thin moustache just like that pirate captain from that Peter Pan moving picture box thing Uncle Morris had shown them yesterday! He tried desperately to hide it behind his hand, but it just kept growing. Honestly, Alyssa thought he was looking very silly, like how her father looked when her mother was playing a prank on him. She couldn't help but start giggling, and soon enough the other kids started laughing too. "Grandpa Willie!" they teased. He ran home crying and Alyssa became captain for the day.

That evening after she returned home, a bunch of men in robes visited her parents. They looked intimidating, but her father assured her they were good people from the Ministry of Magic. She overheard them talking about “obliviating the witnesses” and her mother kept apologising for the trouble caused. It was only later that Alyssa learnt that she had been the one to cause Willie to grow that ridiculous moustache. It was truly unfortunate that no one will remember Grandpa Willie. What a pity.

Alyssa's family would either have to live in a wizarding neighborhood, or a muggle one and not have a magical home. Having a magical home in a muggle neighborhood would be considered a breach of the statute of secrecy. Sadly, Alyssa cannot have the best of both worlds in this circumstance.

While she'd be able to occasionally visit a muggle playground if her family brought her, it probably wouldn't be that common. This first instance of magic is also fairly "intentional" as she was imagining Willie with the mustache already. The first instance is a result of sudden intense emotion, and not at the request or imagining of the child who's performing it.

Circe's parents are very loving towards each other, and try to be the best parents they can to their two children. Circe's dad, Christopher, is 38 and works as a high school history teacher. He has straight, dark brown hair and dark eyes. Christopher is quick to make a joke in response to anything happening, and loves making his children laugh. Circe's mother, Laura, is 36 and works at a bank. She has curly, light brown hair that falls past her shoulders and hazel eyes. She is kind and soft-spoken and has raised her kids to be nice to everyone, yet stand up for what is right.
Circe's brother, Cadmus, is two years older than her. He has curly light brown hair and dark brown eyes. He is very protective over his little sister and cares deeply for her. He has the same sense of humor as his father and they team up to play jokes on Circe and Laura. He plays soccer and makes Circe train with him so he can spend time with his sister. Circe admires him and thinks the world of her big brother.
Circe is the only person in her family to have magic. Her parents were shocked when they found out and asked the teacher who delivered her letter so many questions about what this means for her. Cadmus started joking with Circe, asking her to pull a rabbit out of a hat and trying to keep her from feeding off of their parents' anxious energy. Once the shock had worn off, they tried their best to support her, and made her promise to write to them every week and that they would come get her if anything happened.

First Instance of Magic:

Circe's first instance of accidental magic happened when she was 7. She was playing in the park near her house, sitting on a swing while combing through her favorite doll's hair. Circe had loved kids since she was old enough to no longer consider herself one (even if she still was). Once she had hit this stage her parents had bought her a doll, one she had named Pandora, following her parent's love for Greek mythology that they had passed on to her. As she was sitting on the swing, a group of three older boys came up to her. "Hey, get off the swing, we're using it now," said one of the boys bluntly. Circe looked up at them and frowned. She had never liked people being rude, so she stuck her chin up and told them no. The boy who had told her to move sneered at her, as one of the other boys stepped forward and snatched the doll from Circe's hands. "Hey! That's not yours, give it back!" Enraged, Circe stood up from the swing to go after her doll. The third boy used this as an opportunity to sit in her swing while the second boy threw her doll across the playground. The boys started laughing as there was a distinct crack! that came from the doll. Circe immediately ran over to her doll, as the boys celebrated their victory over the younger girl.
As Circe reached her beloved Pandora, she immediately started to sob as she realized the doll's face was cracked and broken. As she cried, she closed her eyes and held her doll in her arms. Hearing her cries, her older brother Cadmus ran over. Kneeling down next to his sister, he immediately asked her what was wrong. Circe held up Pandora and in between sobs tried to say, "He threw her! And now she's hurt!" Circe immediately went back to sobbing while Cadmus tried to console her. "It's okay, Circe. She's just a little dirty, nothing a bath can't fix." Circe opened her mouth to protest, to explain how she was broken, but stopped at the sight of her doll. The cracks were gone, how was that possible. Cadmus, seeing the confused look on Circe's face, stood up and pulled his little sister up with him. "Come on, Ci, let's go home." Circe wordlessly nodded along and let Cadmus guide her back home. She must have imagined the cracks in her distress, or perhaps it was just the dirt? Circe hugged Pandora close to her chest. At least her doll was okay.
