This suggestion comes from a discussion on the Gryffindor channel on discord. When talking about the fact that the site is actually great and how sad we would be if it were to have to shut down for some particular reason, we Gryffindors suddenly realized that a website like this probably requires quite a bit of money to keep running. Though we didn't know who funds the site, we knew that funding a project with a 0% return is always an issue- no matter how much money you have in the first place.

One of the things that best put this website apart from others of similar nature is that unlike some (for example World of Potter), HIO doesnt have any microtransactions that give you any benefits- cosmetic or otherwise. Because of this, we all agreed to suggest that Hogwarts.IO get its own Patreon. This would give people who have the money and are very dedicated to the website a chance to support it as they see fit, while also taking a bit of financial pressure off of whoever is in charge of funding in the first place.

I will forward this to Zach. I donate the Top RP Website cost giving us premium status as a volunteer thing. The server management costs fall on Zach, he has never shared with me the costs of maintaining the server, the domain or anything like that.

Hello
I was just wondering if there would be a posibillity of adding more ways of earning money at all?
I’m already aware of the existing methods, but the process of saving up is incredibly slow...
Perhaps having some sort of challenge, like a riddle or something, that could be solved daily for a small amount of money? Just something light on the side of the scholarship by solving a puzzle/riddle, to speed up the process slightly?

I can ask Zach. I have a small list of pets I would like to see. He has not been able to code anything in a bit but I have a wish list for him.

The pets are integrated into the coding from the French site, it would be quite difficult to get new ones, so it's unlikely any more will be added in the near future

Magical Hobbies

Could there be some sort of system that would allow students to SLOWLY become better at a single special subjet each year? In RP it could be said that this is their main hobby. (These hobbies would be things like wandlore, broomcrafting, dragon taming, etc.)

An example of a possible system-
Each student has the ability to gain 1 point per year towards a chosen hobby. Points can only be given to a SINGLE hobby, and a student must write a 500 word rp that shows them learning something new in order to gain each point. Say I chose wand lore.

Year one would be a 500 word RP about me reading the basics and first getting into it.
Year two would be examining different types of wood and cores.
Year three would be learning to carve wands.
Year four would be learning to carve wands with cores inside of them.
Year five would be learning to imbue wands with the ability to cast magic.
Year six would be making more intricate and powerful wands.
Year seven would be creating my first efficient, fully functional wand.

I don’t know if this is so much a forum suggestion, but I’ve lately felt that adding audio files to posts would make things very interesting. As in, if someone wanted to attatch a dramatic reading of their thread (or maybe a fitting piece of music) they could include it at the top- with a little play button or something instead of a link.

Now I don’t have the slightest idea of how much work that would take. I know nada about coding. But what I do know is that I love this site already the way it is, but suppose I’m just a sucker for audio!

The easiest way to provide audio ambiance is to hyperlink a youtube or off-site audio service (there are a few). As for a custom BB code to show a Youtube on a post, there is a means to do such but would require Zach placing the custom BB code. I do not have access to the custom code modules on this community. As for uploading a file, such as an audio file -- there are means to do this but that would be up to the owner's comfort. That might cause site slowing (data and size) which could be a barrier because he really does work hard to keep the site moving fast for us. I will forward your requests all the same and see what he wishes to do with them.

As for the hobby thing. Not sure how to make this work without being very specific and having this be in place of an ability and if I can effectively deviate the wands set up in the ACP to facilitate your example. I would have to do further research on this.

Firstly, non-forum but in the Discord maybe it's time to start grouping the years of students under tags, so that @firstyears is possible. Good few announcements start with "Second years, [announcement]" and now with three years, there'll be even more.

The homework system is great but the motivation to do it is lacking. Personally I only have the drive to do homework that gives good spells and a small chance if it has a good roleplay in it.
I think a system which utilizes this better is one that has ALL homework capable of getting spells. Which means homework translates to currency for buying spells (Wisdom currency). (There's already a stat currency after you win duels, etc. Maybe link it together for player ease?)
This also allows for more spells than possible to buy with E average, so players will get to choose spells that define their character more. Meanwhile O students will be rewarded much better with having a larger arsenal than others.
I've personally heard people also not really motivated with HoM or Flying or Transfiguration. I think there's definitely something that can be done to take advantage of the really unique site element.

Also with homework, smaller but, maybe ask for feedback on the actual homework within the homework? Feedback is only ever beneficial, it should be asked as much as possible in my opinion.

Plot wise, I suggest running multiple plots for smaller groups, such as two houses from every year. I find large scale narratives just fall apart cause it's impossible to give everyone screen time on such a narrow story. One where everyone is doing small parts for the greater good.

I think every thread with important information should be in the Encyclopedia. Or there should be tab at the bottom that is solely for information. At the moment having some stuff in a related section while other stuff is just put into the Encyclopedia and the relation doesn't matter, the unorganisation is frustrating at times.
For staff who work with it, it's easy cause you already remember where most of it is. But for new members who are uncertain whether they want to stay, it's stuff like spending 5-10 minutes searching for a thread that will make them give up.

Unsure if it's done but the introduction letter given to students by Head of House should outline the exact steps students should be taking to get registered and all that. I find a little checklist of important links is the most useful thing when joining new RP sites.

Why is the Discord so tucked away? To someone who doesn't know what Discord is, (there's a surprising amount on HiO who made Discord just for HiO's server) how will they ever find it from just seeing a random "Discord Database"?
Maybe it's given in the HoH introduction letter though.

I'd really appreciate more class roleplays. Overall I'd rather professors had quicker homework to correct and more time to interact with students. Just my personal preference on roleplays I'd enjoy partaking.

Buying personality traits like fearless is a bit limiting on character personality. I think it's not something that should be mixed in a roleplay setting, it's more for a light character, high gameplay setting. As of now, even if Oliver finds vampire girls to be the cutest things ever and fantasises about them and stuff, they can still instill him with fear? Unless I pick fearless? Or Oliver is a mean 7th year bullying a third year Dhampir but my much superior and unafraid bully is actually afraid of a little kid who they'll easily knockout? Now my character is being bent cause the system says my character has to act a certain way. I think fear is slightly acceptable, it's a cool element for sure, but it begins to knock away at how much we can actually express our characters.

An incentive to write Solos and stories would be nice. Story of the month and story of the year, stuff like that. A lot on site write for fun already, I think it'd be good to give students an option and possible reward for writing. I personally want to write a detective wizard series, heh.

Finally, thanks for reading! I think overall feedback and even polls is what is most needed, cause the site is even losing its old veteran users.
