[font=Segoe Print]What was with people and casting at Rafael?

Wow, he knew he was good looking, but were people just that desperate to rid such a distracting face from the playing field? Was he just that spectacular at Quidditch, that people were threatened by the mere thought of his greatness? Did people just love him so much, that he had to receive a little bit of love from everyone? Damn these circumstances. He couldn’t help it that he was amazing. It was just something he was born with, in the genetics, the very blood that leaked out of his nose as he laid sprawled out on the grass, light slowly trickling in from his blindfold. Being awesome really hurt sometimes, especially when such things warranted a flippendo from seemingly every freaking player on the field. It just wasn’t fair. This was abuse, and everyone knew it.

[What kind of coward casted at someone wearing a blindfold?]

He could remember the past moments as if they had just occurred – his hands grasped the Rugby Ball, soft leather clutched in his fingertips as a wide grin exploded across his features, taking control of his very livelihood. The success was short-lived. The pain exploded into his side only moments later, warranting a gasp of surprise as he was blasted out of the playing field. A fact that he had no awareness of for the longest time, his ears ringing and insides burning from the sudden and shocking impact of the dirt he had landed on. His vision, once black from the blindfold on his face, was now white, dancing with spots as he’d sucked in a large gulp of air, his lungs working overtime to make up for the difference. “Goddammit, what the h-hell was that?” he groaned, pushing himself off the ground. Damn, the blindfold was still stuck to his face. This game sucked.

"A-are you okay?!"

The voice had intruded his ears in the most satiating way, and for a moment, Rafael’s entire train of thought was put on pause, the boy’s eyes searching vainly for the kind person in question. “Y-yeah, I’m fine,” he yelled back over, sputtering slightly. “Who’s that? Pierre? Alan?” Before his mind could completely process who’s face such a voice belonged to, a spell was quickly muttered – at the very sound, the Captain’s arm shot up, eyes narrowing defensively. What the hell was wrong with this guy? Who casted at someone on the ground?

It was a moment before the boy’s arm fell down – nothing had happened. A small shot of color coming to his cheeks at such a realization, and for the first time in the entirety of the game, he was glad he couldn’t see, for it would have been absolutely shameful to explain to another player such a reaction. He was a bloody Gryffindor, goddammit, they didn’t flinch! His curiosity was piqued now – he cupped his hands, calling out to the boy across from him. “Sorry to be that guy, mate, but was that supposed to do something?”

River watched tensely as her spell headed directly toward her target. River had just watched the boy manage to grab hold of the rugby ball without even being able to see due to an obscuro spell. Rivers spell was fired off with no issue, and perfectly hit her intended target. There was a flash of light, and she’d successfully knocked Rafael out of the game. She felt slightly bad for the boy, he couldn't even fully see the spell coming for him. She supposed she could feel sorry after the game, now there was no time. And she was sure the gryffindor would be fine, he could handle a knockback jinx for sure. Not that River knew him too well at all, but she assumed he’d be fine.

The action was still on, and the rugby ball that Rafael had only just caught, was tossed beck onto the field. And not too far away from River either. Running around a field after a ball reminded her of the soccer games she’d play with her friends in the past. River hated soccer, she saw no point in it, and never found it fun either. Mix in some magic though, and the game is guaranteed to be way more entertaining for both players and spectators. Of course, it would also have the possibility to be more violent and dangerous too, but perhaps that was part of the excitement.

Trying to make a decision of her next move, River had to remind herself once more what the point of this game even was. Be one of the people holding a ball by the end of a game, or the last person standing. Looking around, River knew the last option was a no-go. She had no chance of being the last person standing in the group of these people, so catching a ball it is.
Her feet started carrying the ravenclaw towards the newly free rugby ball. She knew she would become a target if she was to obtain it, but she hoped there wasn’t too much time left to endure any spells thrown her way. As she got closer to the ball she noticed someone else also seemingly headed for it. Having to fight someone for the ball was not something River thought she’d make it well out of, she was pretty scrawny and weak. But by the time she’d noticed the other girl heading that same way, it was too late to change her decided action.

There was nothing like the sensation of winning, the incessant smiling and flashbacks, at least they were felicitous. As much as the thought pleased to Emma, it simply just couldn't be done. The competition was already too far in to alter her strategy. Her mind and heart quarreled with each other, her head pulling her to just obtain her satisfaction and the latter to play the game. Listening to her heart was rare, it had gotten her into trouble many times. The same could be argued with her mind, but it was the side she needed to survive. What on earth did she need feelings and crushes for?

Conflicted between three choices, she strengthened herself for the evasion. Well, attempted evasion. It was no surprise that the girl she formally targeted was out for her, still delivering a smile to her face with fits of giggles and laughter. Watching the flash of light near her, she ducked fast, her knees coming into impacting with the ground and she took the time to catch her breath. With an exhalation, she pushed herself off the ground and prepared her wand. A player had been eliminated, none other than the Gryffindor Captain himself. There was no surprise, nor did she try to pretend. It even gave her a little bit of satisfaction knowing that he was out. Hey, at least he went out with a bang.

In the corner of her eye, she watched waves of red near one of the game's targets. Call it bias or not, but a slight smile met the lips. If anything, she was one of the few people she didn't mind seeing with her the trophy. That probably wasn't how it worked, but bragging rights were just as great. The brunette turned away, ready to fire at anyone other than River and she had found her target.

"Flipendo!" She called out, aiming at a boy who had taken quite the beating. It was wrong to add any more damage, but nearly everyone had turned and fired in her rival's direction, this was simply evening out the battlefield... sorta.

Where had the third year learnt how to cast which such skill? Surprisingly, Aurelia did not quite know herself. In fact, Aurelia had no training what so ever, aside from classes and that one duel back in her first year. What could she say, magic was in her blood and luck on her side -- at least for now and she hoped for the rest of the game. Like the other 2 spells she had cast, the knockback jinx was sent in the younger Gryffindor's direction in a glaring red streak of light. The deafening crack sounded and shortly drowned out in the sound of the rest of the chaos erupting in the vicinity as the crimson bolt hit home.

The success of another flawlessly cast spell would have put a spell on her face if it weren't for the extent of its victim's distress. The younger boy was on the ground, coughing and gasping for air. Aurelia was not arrogant, she did not take pride or pleasure in hurting others... severely. Surely the boy could take a hit, it was only a game. Then again, quidditch, the sport in which players were knocked off a building's height, was also a game. A sigh of relief escaped her lips when the younger boy rose to his feet. She would not have to live with the guilt of nearly killing one of her members.

Something was not right. The sense of foreboding that hung in the air throughout the game seemed to have dissipated. That could only mean... "Astrea!" Her voice rose in concern at the sight of her teammate who, like Pierre, had been a target of a knockback jinx. "Get up, Astrea. Watch your back." Aurelia ordered in an assertive manner. Harsh and apathetic it may have seen for such a demand but in a battleground amidst chaos were enemies everywhere and no second to lose.

The boy she had cast her spell at moments ago must have hit his head. Not only was the Gryffindor performing a dance that would have passed for an act in a circus, but he was calling out to her in a language that she was not familiar with. Aside from a probable concussion, at least he was alright, clearly. Ignoring the wild hollers of the Italian, Aurelia fixated her attention on Astrea once more. Beside the Slytherin, a younger girl held one of the two tickets to winning: the quaffle.

"The girl she has the ba-" The words were cut short as her peripheral vision caught Aurelia caught a movement, a wand raised at her. Reflexively, Aurelia rose her own and tumbling out of her lips was the incantation of another knockback jinx. "Flipendo!"

Satisfaction coursed through the girl as her spell finally, finally succeeded, flying towards her intended target. Though it drove away the sense of worthlessness and failure, Thora still couldn't help but cringe a bit as she watched the boy fly out of the ring as not one, but two Flipendos hit him. After all, though she had succeeded, she wasn't here to make enemies, or anything of the sort. So, to enjoy final triumph or feel guilt? She wasn't sure.

In her indecision, she froze, wand raised but without target. The snek certainly had lasted a while--for longer than she had in previous games, at least--so she'd might as well attempt to win, but the chances of that were looking slimmer by the minute. Players were still running around and firing spells as fast as before, and it looked like the Quaffle was in Bridget's possession. The rugby ball was without a holder, but no doubt it would be fiercely contested for.

From a competitive standpoint, the obvious action would be to hit the ball-holders, as they'd be the winners if nobody attempted to grab the ball from them. But Bridget was her friend. Friends didn't target friends, did they? More movement caught her eye, and Thora turned to see someone--actually, two people--lunging for the remaining rugby ball. So she'd predicted correctly then.

She hated to hit someone without warning, or without reason other than another elimination, but in S.W.A.G., some things just had to be done. The brunette didn't recall having met either of them, so as for which one to pick, she was unsure. Well, it wasn't like anything was clear in this darkness, anyways.

"Flipendo." This had better work again.

There was a gap between the pureness of the giggles that forced themselves between gritted teeth, a feeling of unnerved clash of ideas assaulting her every passing second. Her body was screaming at her to give in to the fluttering sensations even as her mind rebelled with equal vigour, a shouting match of tug-of-war between two opposing forces trapped within the same shell. Her spell was uttered clear, the telltale spark of power that rested in her connecting within the willing wand into a bright blue streak of light- that swung straight out and away from her intended target. Her eyes narrowed with annoyance and the young Slytherin had made a vital mistake in leaving herself open.

A sharp strike of pain bloomed at her side and before Astrea knew it she was airborne, the world around her blurring with motion. She hit the grassy floor in a skidding heap, the wind in her lungs knocked clear out in a way that left her crumpled and wide-eyed as panic spread over her like wildfire as she tried to suck in a breath. Nothing happened- what- She couldn't breathe and she could vaguely hear Aurelia's alarm from where she was.

A gasp of air- thank god. Breath rushed back into her like a broken dam and everything seemed to sharpen all at once- the thrill of the hunt swirling together an electrifying mix of adrenaline and competitiveness. Her head snapped back up to check on her teammate, her steadfast position at Aurelia's side lost.

"Get up, Astrea. Watch your back."

"Yes, ma'am-" The curt command made a decade of etiquette kick in with a spring force of the flipendo that had uprooted her earlier and Astrea scrambled upwards to her feet, wand tight in one hand and other splayed upon her chest. Now if Astrea had been raised muggle and hadn't just finished freaking herself out by trying to breathe on a spasming diaphragm, perhaps she would have been more concerned about the stains that were no doubt rubbed wet and green on the fine brown of her jacket, about the bruises that would colour her for the next few days. But alas, magic spoilt the child and spared the rod.

She could not venture back into the centre with her teammate- with range 2 came the last available ball and so much competition- but she could not give up the alliance. She raised her wand arm toward the brunette clutching victoriously at the quaffle, the ticket to win wedged securely between chest and arm- the other already had the ball, to attempt at striking her down would only allow the other free ball to be caught-

She spun on one heel and deftly produced the knockback jinx movement- hurry up, it's down, hop and curve- toward the ambitious redhead who had dared nearing the final crown of victory, the rugby ball was important, she could defend it- "Flipendo!"

Was Alan really a third year? It sure did not seem like it. Finite Incantem was a counter curse but would not work on a conjured blindfold. Ana would finally cast a spell at her upperclassman's way. It was about time. However, the younger Gryffindor would not receive the satisfaction of witnessing her enemy suffer, at least not from her own spell. The very creature whom she had knocked back moments ago, Astrea, had recovered from the hit and unleashed her scary shadows once again. Fear. Ana was not fearless, not yet. The horrifying sentiment would cause the girl's fingers to tremble, the spell subsequently missing its target by a long shot.

Fighting through both the tickles and pain from knockback jinx so graciously given by Anastasia, Astrea did as told, she stood, wand raised. She found her target, the dhampir. But her eyes were wondering of subject, she would find her own eyes fixated on the absurdly breathtaking sight of aurelia/ana. Concentration was the key to a successful spell and Astrea failed. Not a whisp emitted from the tip of the girl's wand.

Aurelia moved with extraordinary speed yet in a graceful artistic manner as she twirled to the side. However, her aversion had its drawback, her own spell never came close to its target, instead, the crimson red light shot towards a girl nearby, Katrina Walker, whoops. Aurelia should have watched her back, evidently, the third year had let down her guard as a knockback jinx struck and threw her forwards.

Throughout this game, luck was not on this Gryffindor's side. Both of her previous spells had failed because of the nature of the Slytherin. Katrina had settled for the girl's partner, Aurelia as her target, a rash decision perhaps. Katrina didn't even have time to register that her spell failed as something hit her. Then she was flying, soaring through the air. Then, with a sickening crunch, she was on the ground. Her stomach ached immediately and her head began throbbing with each heartbeat. The lioness had landed on her nondominant arm, she winced as she attempted to drag herself off of it.

Through the mind-numbing pain, Katrina tried to put the pieces together. Her spell must have redirected at her, but that didn't quite make since. She had seen Aurelia, her previous target, do something. Then red light then flying. She must have been hit by Aurelia. Though for them to both target one another didn't make since so she must have been accidentally hit. And her spell? Katrina sat up ignoring the head rush that came with the movement. Her spell might have worked because she could see Aurelia on the ground, or at least, not standing where she had been. Katrina replayed the moment and figured that it was her spell that had hit, or possibly someone else's she almost remembered another red light zipping toward the leader.

Mind still reeling, stomach throbbing, and arm sore, Katrina struggled to her feet. It dawned on her that this was the first time that she had been really hit with a spell. In fact, the laughing spell from this game, only moments prior, had been her actual first time. Huh.

Katrina looked around as the pain began to dull. @Bridget Collins wasn't too far from her, holding the quaffle. The ticket to winning this game. The aching would be well worth it if she could just get her hands on that ball. She feigned being weak as she took a few steps towards her friend. She hoped that Bridget didn't take it to heart, although she had seen that Bridget was still mad from the Slytherin loss last Quidditch game, she really hoped that Bridget wouldn't hold a grudge.

She needed to get to range two then snatch her victory. But then, she saw the other ball on the ground. No one had claimed it yet. She ran, full force, ignoring the pain at the ball. Time to snatch her victory.

The girl let out a mildly disturbing cackle that was very different from her normal laugh when Aurelia was thrown backward. Despite the fact that her spell wasn't the one that did it, it was deeply gratifying to see the older girl flung about like a rag doll. Ana considered going to her again, but decided against it for the moment, wanting to reevaluate her options.

Anastasia scanned the group. Rafa was still blindfolded, so she assumed that Alan's spell was unsuccessful. She also wondered why on Earth the boy hadn't just removed the thing himself. It occurred to her that, since he was blindfolded, he probably didn't know he was out. "Rafa, love, you can, in fact, remove the blindfold," she told him as she began to formulate a plan. The game was more than half over, and there were far too many people left for her tastes. The other people in her range were all going for the balls. How pathetic. She intended to win by being the last one standing or not at all. After all, anyone could be lucky enough to get their hands on one of two - all it took was some brute strength and speed. No, if she was going to win, she was going to do it by being the smartest and the best.

There were two people in the outer range and Ana considered which one of them to yeet out. The boy had already taken several spells, and he had just been taunting and yelling at Aurelia, which Ana always supported. Turning her focus to the redheaded girl, she inhaled and steeled herself. "Flipendo!" she said confidently, hoping that this would copy her first spell and not her most recent attempt.

The third year watched the red light jump from the tip of his wand and rush towards Rafael but nothing ever happened even as it came into contact with the blindfold. At least he had heard that the guy was fine, he had said so and Alan was sure it was the truth; the boy looked like he could take a few hits if necessary. The boy on the ground asked who he was and Alan felt dumb for not introducing himself sooner, or making clear who was talking. After all the fellow Gryffindor was wearing a blindfold and it made Alan wonder why he wouldn't just take it off since Alan's spell had failed. "Alan 's th-the name", he called over, completely forgetting his surroundings. Once again showing how easy it was to distract him, even in the midst of the battle going on around him. It was truly a wonder why he was still in the first range at all.

When the boy asked him whether his spell had been supposed to do anything, heat rushed into his cheeks and for a moment he was glad that the boy was wearing the stupid blindfold. The third year quickly shook his head, trying to down the embarrassment he felt at having failed the spell's trivia. Shut up-, he wanted to say, but he couldn't let his thoughts get the better out of him, or the worse really. "It w-was supposed to help but c-clearly you are f-fine!", the metamorph huffed as his fingers fiddled with the cherry wood in his hand, twirling the tool around. How did the spell not work? Was it because the effect of Obscuro was a physical one, rather than something that was affecting the circumstances? He had no idea what exactly had made him fail, but he would keep it in mind and hope the charms professor had an answer for him.
