Rory had been enamored with potions from a young age, and had spent evenings wandering into his father's study with sparkling eyes, completely enthralled in just the idea of being able to brew life changing elixirs.
Rory’s father, a skilled potion master himself who found a living within the craft, was incredibly patient and kind. Understanding his son’s passion, he never dismissed Rory’s eager questions or fascination. Instead, he took the time to teach him about the various ingredients used in potion-making, their properties, their origins, and most importantly, their potential effects. He explained how some plants needed to be harvested at specific times, how certain powders had to be ground with care, and how a single wrong step could completely alter the outcome of a potion. The precision involved fascinated Rory deeply and that fascination only grew as he got older.
He'd even gone so far as to teach Rory how to cook, demonstrating the importance of skilled knife work and precise timing. Rory was never allowed to touch any of the actual potions supplies in his house but just the knowledge that he was gaining skills that would help him in potions later was enough to make him smile.
He helped prepare food as much as his parents would allow him too, though they never let him use the especially sharp kitchen knives, much to his dismay. Each small task brought him immense joy and a sense of accomplishment. His hands grew steadier with every passing day, and his confidence in his abilities grew as well. Even without direct access to the magical supplies, Rory was gaining important skills that would serve him well once he began formal potion studies at school. He doesn't know nearly enough to consider himself a proficient in the subject, he's only eleven after all, but he does know significantly more than his wizard peers in the subject.
compared to many of his peers—who saw potion-making as a daunting mystery—Rory felt ahead of the curve. His early exposure gave him a distinct advantage, allowing him to understand concepts that others wouldn’t encounter until much later. This knowledge fueled his enthusiasm and motivated him to work even harder.
Now at Hogwarts, he's a bit dismayed with the pace of potions class. Knowing as much as he does he's found the introduction classes incredibly slow. But he doesn't mind too much, it just means instead of spending as much time on his homework, he can spend time on finding library books on the potions that he wants to learn more about!

Since Nico was little, everyone around them knew they were going to be a lot.

It started with the noise - before they could speak a word, they certainly knew how to bring attention to themselves, whether it was by crying or more frequently, cheerful laughter which earned itself waves of “awws” and praise. Something about the innocent face was able to soften even the most child-aversed ones who happened to step into the Dawson’s household. It only got worse when Nico reached the stage of babbling, which frankly, did not last that long; as soon as they started grasping the concept of speech they seemed determined to say as much as they could, as long as there was someone to listen.

Rachel and Phillip assumed it would simply be a phase, like in any other children, but the more words Nico knew, the more they used them. Each day they would get detailed reports of what went down in kindergarten and later in elementary school, down to the most intricate details. One would assume it would be boring, but somehow, the child quickly mastered the way of presenting any story in a way much more entertaining than the facts were.

Nico did not limit their oratory skills to their house, quite the opposite. At school they would catch classmates and strangers alike to chat about anything and everything. If Nico was in a room, silence was impossible, unless clearly requested. And yet others rarely pleaded - something about the strange, blabbering shortie was mesmerising. It might’ve been simply the energy with which they carried themselves, always speaking loudly and fast, often lively gesticulating on top of it. Even the older kids who seldom paid any mind to the underclassmen couldn’t ignore it, especially when met with the eyes of the speaker, which seemed to both sparkle with joy and beg for attention.

As time passed, Nico became somewhat aware of the importance charisma plays in interactions. Whether they truly acknowledged the strange charm they happened to possess didn’t really matter, as they decided to improve either way. Their dream was to be a performer, a magician to be exact - and anyone can learn card tricks, but it takes a special kind of person to make it into a true show. It requires quite a bit of skill - one must keep talking in a way that keeps the crowd engaged (something they always admired in street performers), as well as make whatever stunt they attempted as dazzling as possible.

With that in mind they practiced; now, instead of simply chatting on to people they’d pull them into their tricks, turning even a quick interaction at a lunch table into a spectacle, soon attracting everyone around. They needed to grab their attention no longer for the sake of boredom, but to keep an audience. From a couple of classmates, to performing in talent shows, they had to amaze them all. The mission ended in a success, perhaps too great of one - subconsciously, bits of showmanship snuck their way into Nico’s daily life and regular conversation. The blabbermouth became even harder to ignore, a feat many thought to be impossible.

"To master the art of an inner and peaceful state of
mind, one must walk their journey."

Cash had read that quote somewhere, but they never understood it until later in their life. Phoenix Cassandra Acosta Ironwoods, born from the magical couple of Caiden Lavi and Autumn Olívia Aleta Ironwoods (née Ramiréz), was always loud.
Some even said that when Cash was young, their loudness was obnoxious.

Chaotic, at best. They had to. With both of their parents busy with their work (Caiden was an Auror and Olívia is a Healer), Cash always fought for the opportunity and time to gain their parents' affection, attention, and love since Cash is the only child in the family. It wasn't that Cash would admit it out loud that they craved such things.

But their actions should have shown it. But as Cash grew older, and the three of them had their own lives, Cash grew accustomed to the solitude. And so, Cash acted like the solitude didn't bother them. And when the young Ironwoods went to Hogwarts, at first, Cash didn't plan to stick out at all.

But Quidditch beckoned them to try. To sign up. Qudditch, for as long as the green eyes remembered, had been a part of the Ironwoods' blood, flesh, and lives.
Their father was the Slytherin's Beater when he attended the school, and their mother was the Ravenclaw's Chaser during her time at the magical Scottish Highland castle.

It only took Cash a year to move up from the Second-string to the First-string to fill the role of Slytherin's Quidditch team second Beater just a few weeks before Cash's second year summer rolled in. Watching from the sidelines until they were on the Quidditch pitch was another ball game.

Quidditch game is and always has been brutal, chaotic, and full of energy, both from the players and the spectators alike. Being a Beater was not an easy feat for Cash. Bludger is flying here and there. The medium-sized cannonball behind whacked left and right.

Flying, holding the bat, and hitting the Bludger need accuracy, precision, and a high focus for any Beaters to knock down their opponents and get rid of them from the pitch. During that chaotic moment and scene, Cash always looked up to Erin Ryan, the other Beater during her time in Hogwarts.

Cash was always awed by how Erin always appeared calm and collected under the chaotic scene. Under the immense pressure. And when Cash saw how Erin Ryan always hit that Bludger with another level of Accuracy and strength, Cash aimed to be just like her one day.

And so, during Cash's tenure as the Slytherins' Quidditch team Beater (from Cash's 2nd up to the first few weeks of their 5th year), Cash always tried to channel their inner Erin Ryan during every Quidditch match or life in general.

Whoever said "cheaters never prosper or
cheaters never win"
has never met you.

There's no reason for Cash to cheat, to be honest. They're a straight O's student. Their worst grade? A in Flying from their first ever Flying homework back in their 1st year. Cash was a mentor. Was a role model for some students. Was a Prefect once upon a time for a reason.

But circumstances and life changed. A lot could have happened over the span of 6 years in one's life. Just asked Cash. They used to have everything. Used to being worshipped on the ground, they were walked on. But not anymore. At the end of their 5th year, Cash had to pull out from Hogwarts.

Not because they asked their mother to. Or because they no longer wanted to attend Hogwarts anymore. No. It's because Cash must deal with very much more personal issues. They need to restructure their lives. They need to make their mental health healthy again.

A year Cash had been away from Hogwarts, and it wasn't an easy thing to do. When Cash went back to school again, their peers had moved to their final year in Hogwarts, while Cash had to hold a year back. Did Cash feel angry? Of course! Ashamed? You couldn't imagine it! Disappointed with themselves? More than anything.

But the former Slytherin Quidditch team's Beater and green eyes had goals in their life. They just need to survive the last stage of their academic life in Hogwarts, get back to Quidditch again, and at the end, Cash just wanted to finish their NEWTs exams in Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Herblogy, Potions, and Transfiguration with a bang since Cash aspires to be a Healer just like their mother.

And when they were signing up to join the Slytherin Quidditch team again, they were hoping they would get the Chaser position. Many had role-modeled after some famous Greatest Witches or Wizards of All Time (GWWOAT), some famous magical world artists in the Entertainment industry. Cash's role models were simple.

They looked up to their mother, Erin Ryan, and well, the greatest Chaser Slytherin ever had in Cash's eye, one Alexx Séverin. Ms. Séverin had become the infamous and had been known to all Quidditch players at that time as the Blatching Queen back when Ms. Séverin was still a student at Hogwarts and was Cash's teammate.

So one day, Cash had roped one of their housemates to help them practice Quidditch one afternoon on a Saturday. "You know it is not allowed to cheat, right?"Their housemate said. Cash raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Who said that?"Cash replied.

"Whoever said that, they never met me before, "The green eyes uttered with confidence. "Why don't you fly along and we run this play? "Cash instructed. Since their no Quaffle involved, Cash needs to improvise. "Fly faster, don't you?"They inquired.

"It is easy for you to say, you've a Firebolt for a broom. "Their housemate protested between the gusting wind as the duo flew about around the Quidditch Training Pitch. And as their housemate flew faster and faster, Cash caught up to him. After Cash next to him, they jutted out their feet, and Cash quickly flew away. And the other boy quickly tumbled down.

Good thing the duo did not fly that high. Just enough for Cash to perform the trick. "Hey!"The boy protests. "What the hell just happened?"He asked CCash. Puzzled etched on his face. The two of them now stood on the ground safely, holding their respective brooms. "I cheated, "Cash said, then shrugged their shoulder nonchalantly.

"Well.. when you have a broom as fast as the Firebolt, who would've guessed it was you when there's another party involved during the actual game," He said. "You good, mate?"Cash questioned. "All good! No worries, "The boy replied. After that, the duo trekked back to the castle.

Back to the safety of their dorms. Respectively.
“Where cheating is,
there’s mischief there.”

Dodgeball - the pain of my mostly ok life.
It was fine, a good game, apart from when I had to play it against the school bully.
Every single time, even if I was on the same team as her, she targeted me. It was horrible.
There was nothing she liked more than seeing me get hit. This went on for many years, and every time I got hit, she would laugh, and tease me about it for days on end.
I didn’t like giving her the pleasure of seeing me hit, so I made a plan. I started practicing, inviting my few friends around to my house. They would throw teddies and other toys at me, for me to dodge. At first, I got uncountable numbers of bruises when they threw little figurines at me, ignoring my instructions to only throw soft toys.
My parents always rolled their eyes at my bruises. as they had no idea how much the bully affected me. Every time, I explained how upsetting I found it, and eventually, they accepted that I was practising dodging, even though they disliked it.
Then, a few weeks later, I started actually being able to dodge the things I had thrown at me, making me extremely pleased, and impressing my friends. I was now actually excited for when we would next play it, hoping that my skills would be as good in public as they were in the privacy of my bedroom.
The next time we played dodgeball, I didn’t get hit at all by the balls the bully threw at me, meaning my team won, for the first time in ages.
This made the bully get extremely angry. She got all of her friends to come over, holding the dodgeballs, and they surrounded me in a circle.
“Can you dodge this?” She asked.
All of her friends threw the balls at me at the same time, and I managed not to be hit by a single one!
News spread at the school about my excellent dodgeball skills, and how I managed to embarrass the school bully. Lots of break times, a different group of children would come up to me, and try to get me to dodge the things that they threw at me. They often asked if I did gymnastics, but I said no. I wasn’t very flexible, I was just good at dodging things.

All of Concetta's life has been surrounded by potions and potioneers. After graduating Hogwarts, her mother and father became potioneers for a small apothecary, and worked there until shortly after she was born. Due to this, a lot of family friends are somewhat knowledgeable on potions themselves. Even when her brothers entered Hogwarts, they came home on holiday with tons of stories about their potions classes, what went wrong, what went right, and most importantly, what they learned. Her image of her parents was that they were formidable, professional, and knowledgeable potioneers, which made the whole subject extremely fascinating. "Not just anyone could make a fortune selling potions", she thought, and so she became very proud of her parents and the legacy they were giving as Poisonwoods. Even a kind girl like herself couldn't help but to boast of her family's business and how smart and amazing and better-than-yours her Mum and Daddy are. She truly looked up to them in all meanings of the word. Her parents were everything she wanted to be.

At 9 years old, her wonderful image of her mother and father came crashing down with the knowledge that not only were they not very good potioneers, but they actually got fired from their former apothecary careers due to how subpar their skills were. It was supposed to be a funny moment, is what her brother thought in bringing it up, but it made his little sister wail and weep with sadness and crushed expectations. The nail in the coffin was learning that their pre-made, shelf-stable potions weren't very well received with the wizarding-public, and they were more often than not gag or novelty gifts in the muggle world, sold as drinks to complete one's Hallowe'en costume. It was a terrible day for her, and after a few minutes of crying face first into her bed did her older brothers—who were at the time year 4 and 7—offer to tutor her at potions. Even if their parents were running a sham business, they could still excel at the topic.

During their breaks, her brothers would let her read their old notes from potions class, and even sent owls on clarifications and how exactly to execute it by herself. With their guidance—and her parents' old cauldron and ingredients that had been collecting dust for who knows how long—Concetta spent long hours toiling away to learn potions better than her parents, and in the process dreamed of one day making an honest business of Poisonwood Potions.

The talent for Defence Against the Dark Arts for Hunter comes as naturally as the action of breathing. How, you ask? The world, as Hunter understood from a young age, is not an always kind, always fair, and always safe place. Being bullied all her life because of her peculiar appearance and having to confront the fear and her bullies at age seven, at least five years before other children, instead of having the fear weaken and break her, Hunter let the fear improve her instincts. Defence Against the Dark Arts requires understanding threats before they become apparent.

The first showing of her magic is protective magic. She did not attack without reason; it is a result of her crossing a boundary after being emotionally cornered by her cousins. This act of her magic exploding as books flew off the shelves is entirely defensive. Her instincts, fear, and need to defend herself initiated her magic.

The studious and committed nature of Hunter makes it not only important for her to read through the textbooks, she actually conceptualizes and does it correctly. She learns from her books by figuring out a puzzle: why it works, how it works, and how it can be made to work, by applying a learning habit and genius that lets her absorb tough concepts quickly, such as chemistry and physics concepts from her father, which she learns faster than other children of similar ages.

Her courage is consistent. In fact, danger is a thing she neither actively seeks out nor flees from. Her reaction-pattern to a possibly unfair or hostile environment is intelligent rather than frantic. It is this level of emotional dependability, a result of being lovingly raised by both parents, which allows Hunter to perform under pressure as well as she does – better, even; as a Defence Against the Dark Arts specialist, she requires this level of competency.

Most critically is Hunter a protective person? It is not just herself that Hunter wants to protect; Hunter wants to protect other people as well. It is this quality that Hunter has which can make learning about defensive magic from a textbook become practical magic! Each protective charm or counter-curse isimportant to Hunter; this is a combination of Hunter performing wellin school as well as Hunter wanting to make certain that none of her loved ones are left unprotected.

Defence Against the Dark Arts, in overall, suits her because it relates to her nature and her personal life. It’s more than a subject for her; it’s something that has a connection with her, and this is why she will perform very well in it.

The Kenneally Vidler family’s way of life is something many would describe as unusual. Living out of a tent, moving campground every month or so, they hunt and harvest for what they need. Plants that can be harvested and dried or prepared in some other way to be eaten. Ingredients for potions and for healing are harvested and stored for when they are needed. As they find what they need in their surroundings, Max has been instilled with the idea that if they are to come back some day, the plants growing there will still be needed. His mother having had a special interest in herbology when she was a student has done her best to pass the interest and the knowledge down to Max and his sister. Max has spent many hours learning how to care for the recourses they need. Observing them, experiencing what can be done to help a plant that isn’t thriving and patiently applying treatment.

Growing up outdoors Max has learned to appreciate and take care of all things living. He spent his time playing with, studying and learning to take care of the nature around him. Learning instinctively through touch, smell and environment rather than reading words on a page. It started with normal plants, learning what was edible and how to take care of them, and grew into an interest of hunting for magical plants. Never being comfortable sitting still, there is always a plant to take care of. The physical, hands on approach herbology offers is how he learns best, and he thrives in it. Digging and pruning, small and big tasks that keep him focused with visible results that keeps his motivation up.

Having had the sheltered upbringing Max has had, herbology and being in the greenhouses is one of the highlights of his days. A place where he doesn’t feel less than and behind his peers when it comes to knowledge. A subject where he can contribute without feeling stupid, and maybe even help out a few. He may forget the names of his peers more often than he blinks, but he has never forgotten a plants name. Well, at least as far as he can remember.

Arriving at Hogwarts being rather overwhelming, Max has often sought refuge in the greenhouse. Just being around the plants he loves to care for helps him focus. But there is no use in idle hands. So he makes himself useful, and keep the plants thriving. Watering, pruning, fertilizing, talking to and rearranging for optimal sun exposure.

Edward is both bookish and highly intuitive, giving him an aura of being 'wise beyond his years'. Growing up as an only child, he spent most of his time around the adults in his life, listening intently and taking in the wisdom taught to him by his grandparents (grandfather before he passed away, and grandmother still to this day). He would spend time with his grandmother in her garden, she would work while teaching him little bits of herbology lore or share fantastic stories of magical creatures (especially that time they found an infestation of gnomes in the garden). His grandfather would tell him stories of his own childhood - his great grandparents had both been Slytherin and as adults, of the opinion which was a more common in their day, that children were meant to be neither seen nor heard - so that benign neglect left his grandfather on his own most of the time growing up, quite the opposite of his own overprotective mother. His grandfather therefore shared stories of his own adventures escaping into the grounds of their estate and the woods beyond which learning all sorts of practical knowledge to share, or other times giving him some insights into the nature of bullies and how to deal with them by being the better person: fighting if he must defend himself, but only honorably, and sharing other wisdom gathered from over the course of his life as an athlete and coach.

Additionally, with an overprotective mother, Edward spent most of his time indoors, reading, which he actually enjoyed, though the adventure stories he read made him long to be able to one day do similar things himself, though to do so he knows that he needs to study hard to face the challenges that lie ahead.

As he was from a Wizarding family, while he was forbidden from actually practicing magic while he was underage, he could certainly read about it and study up on his own - what if he didn't get into Hogwarts!? Quelle horreur! (He doesn't actually speak French, but he picked up some phrases from his mother - who isn't French either - but did introduce them into her own vocabulary as she hoped they seemed to make her more interesting).

And so with that he devoured as much of the family's library as he could, even attempting to tackle books beyond him to challenge himself, and perhaps one day having been at least relatively familiar with it, might come more easily to him when he is ready to learn it properly.

Lily as a young girl was exceptionlly facinated with potions. With Sir Gray, her Father, being a Potions Master; he frequently was found working away over a bubbling cauldron. She become witness to her Father's genius, often envying his ability to handle potions as he did. As she grew and began to learn to read, she often found herself flipping through his experimental noted and work entries. Despite not understanding what he wrote back then to its full degree; but the pictograms and neat cursive helped capture her young mind.
Some of her favorite memories of her Father consisted of his long nights working, while not too far from him, she played with his empty potion bottles, imagining the day she could fill them with her own special sparkly potions! While he studied, she slept in his arms to the sound of his textbook entries. And on the occasion, her Father allowed Lily to aid his brewing or herb collecting.
As soon as her Father allowed it, she was quickly skimming through her Father's old potion textbooks, excitedly scribbing away in her own notebook he had gifted her. Now, eight years later, Lily has become enthralled by potions. Being her favorite subject, she quickly found a career interest in Medical Brewing for Hospitals. Which would allow her the ability to brew often and continue her interests. Being one of the most important classes for becoming a healer, she is dedicated to keeping ahead and knowing everything there is to potions.
As she aged into her first year at Hogwarts, Lily quickly learned as she skimmed through the syllabus...she may have read ahead. Cure for Boils: Check, Herbicide Potion: check, Forgetfullness Potion: an obvious check, Burning Healing Paste...Okay, she may have read WAY ahead. BUT, she couldn't help herself. Afterall, weren't the textbooks meant to be read ahead? They were there to learn afterall!
So while she wasn't doing classwork or finishing endless essays for Charms, she was often found in the library. Seated amongst the rows, hunched over a text with a quill in hand, she was quickly scribbling away her findings. So that one day, much like her Father, she too would have endless journals of findings, hands of art, and a mind for potions. And so thats how Lily truly became entrenched by the art of potions, and where her dream of becoming a Healer hatched.
