PersonalityMiles Parker is a brilliant artist, wizard, and friend. He’s kind to everyone he meets, and can make even the most stoic person in the wizarding world giggle with a simple joke. Sure, he’s a talented wizard as well, but the real magic is his unmatched charm and humor. He’s a little childish, but it’s just fun to be childish sometimes. Who needs to be serious all the time?
The kid is possibly the most lovable person in the wizarding world, but if you manage to get on his bad side, you’ve either insulted his friends, family, or house. Miles is fiercely loyal and kind, but his wit and creativity secured him a position in the Horned-Serpent house. His arms are covered in little sharpie-drawn tattoos, since he’s not old enough to get real tattoos yet.
Miles is transgender, but what does that have to do with anything, really? He doesn’t keep it hidden, but he doesn’t talk about it all the time. He doesn’t like to let little things like that define him, that’s just how he feels. He loves fashion and fun suits, and you can often see him humming to himself as he walks down the halls wearing a funky pattern or a color out of left field.
AppearanceMiles has beautiful hazel eyes and dark brown hair. His arms are covered in fake tattoos, drawn on with a sharpie from the moments in class where his boredom really drives him crazy. Well, half of them are sharpie, and the other half are inkbox tattoos. Sadly, he’s not old enough for the real thing. His nails are often painted funky colors, but not all the time.
He’s five feet, five inches tall, slightly taller than the average kid his age. Miles has been on hormone blockers for a few months. His posture isn’t that great because he often hunches over to look more flat-chested.Player’s note: I am a transgender guy myself, and all the trans stuff I write/wrote about for Miles is either from experience or from extensive research. I would just like anyone reading this to know that, so they’re aware I’m not trying to make fun of trans people or I'm not educated enough or I'm getting all my knowledge of the trans experience from tumblr and so on. Again, most of this is from my personal experience with trying to pass better and the rest is thoroughly researched. I just wanted to make a cool, nice trans character that I would’ve wanted to see growing up. :-)
HistoryBorn and raised in New York City, Miles Parker is a normal kid at first glance. Lover of art, music, and culture. Miles was seemingly as normal as it gets. The boy got normal grades for a normal child. Bs and As with a C in math, but that was his best and his parents understood that. Miles played a lot of video games and hung out with his friends Julian and Matthew. Matthew lives just down the hall. Julian lives a few blocks away.
Nothing’s out of the ordinary in his family of muggles. His mother is an orthopedic surgeon, and his father is an actor trying to make it in the big apple. He’d never done anything huge, but he’d done a few shows on Broadway. He usually got ensemble roles, since he was a really good dancer. Everyone in the family believed in him. Besides, it hardly mattered how much money he brought in, since Miles’ mom did a good job as the breadwinner of the family, something Miles’ dad never cared about.
They were a happy, normal, warm family up until a letter kept appearing on their front door. It was a shock, Miles would give it that. The first two times around, Miles thought it was a prank that his friend down the hall of their apartment building was playing, but when he sent him a letter back saying “ha, ha,” his friend sent him a text saying, “why are you sending letters to me?” Besides that, Miles did his best to ignore and tear up the trillions of mystery letters he kept getting.
One day, though, the letters had a person attached to it! The man holding the letter said he was a professor Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Miles’ mother invited the man in. She thought he was crazy, and wanted to make sure this homeless man in strangely nice medieval robes had a place to sleep for the night, being the kind person she was. The man didn’t seem crazy, and went on about some magic school. Miles wondered why his mom hadn’t kicked the crazy out yet.
Out of nowhere, the man whipped out a wand and casted a small spell that made a glowing bunny prance around the house. Miles followed the little creature with his eyes, unable to believe was he was seeing but falling madly in love with it. “Dude, what!?” That was all he could say. The magic man looked down at Miles and asked, “Do you remember a time you did something unexplainable?” Miles blinked. Was he talking about what he thought he was talking about? Miles had always just wrote that day off as a realistic dream...
When Miles was around five or six years old, he and a few other kids were playing in the playground during recess. Miles and another boy were fighting over the basketball, and like kids do, they were fighting a little violently. They pulled the ball from each other’s arms again and again. At one point, Miles remembered, they were rolling around on the ground and crawling towards the fallen basketball. Miles was trying his hardest to get the ball, but he wasn’t strong enough. He started roaring, like a lion.
After his third roar, the loudest one yet, the ball exploded and flew into little bits around the play area. Now having nothing to tug at and hold onto, the boys fell onto the ground in shock. Before Miles could say anything, the other boy boasted, “I’m so strong, I popped it!” Miles had no idea it was him who even contributed at all to the explosion, so he clapped in amazement for the other boy. Then, the two forgot about the entire incident and went back inside the classroom for independent reading time.

You know what is better that a strawberry smoothie? Well, whatever your favorite smoothie is. In any case, you were given a tip by the House Elves that might be important when you visit Hogwarts -- don't trust the food there.

faceclaim: finn wolfhardName: Fyodor Prior
Twelve years old, born October 18th, 2007
Second Year
Horned Serpent
Human
Pureblood
(Not connected to Lana in any way.)Appearance: Fyodor is matured for his age, at least facially. His jawline is quite refined given he's only 12 years old, with fluffy chocolate colored hair and piercing blue eyes. He is considered what most would define as handsome, though he doesn't dwell on that fact too much; quite honestly he couldn't care less about what people thought of him. He stands at about 5'4 inches, quite average in comparison to other boys in his year.Personality: You could sum up Fyodor in two words; a complete ignorant sarcastic jerk. I suppose that isn't quite two words, huh? Regardless, Fyodor is completely fooled by his massive ego, and thinks he is the walking and talking god. He considers himself and many other pure-bloods elite, and couldn't be bothered to engage in conversation with anyone less than that. Even with the exception of pure-blooded wizards, he still often sees them as lesser than him.History: Fyodor Prior, a boy born into one of the most strict and well known pure-blooded wizarding families in America, is an only child who resides with his mother and father. Needless to say, he is exactly what you would picture a snobbish ignorant pure-blood to look like. Due to the lack of attention his parents gave him growing up, he has learned to become distant and unforgiving, simply not caring about anyone but himself. He often uses humor and sarcastic remarks as a way of coping with this internalized issue.
Throughout his entire life, he'd been told he should be the "perfect son", and anything less wouldn't be tolerated. His parents had a very funny way of expressing their love, but he had to abide by what they said or it would be weeks of tutor sessions with Mrs. Kingsley on self-disciplinary.
Speaking of which, his first spark of magic was when he had been in detention with Mrs. Kingsley after she had hit his hand with a ruler after he didn't say "Yes, ma'am." In return he was able to float it out of her hands and hit her instead, causing her to outburst and tell his mother and father. Though, due to this being his first act of magic, he got off scot-free.
He's quite respected at his school, and almost feared by those in his year. They all would describe him as cold and rude, and Fyodor practically takes pride in this. He's extremely witty, but he uses his quick wit to remark sarcastically every chance he gets.[/size]

The staff have gotten stricter as of late. Not on bigger transgressions like fighting or smoking, rather curfew breaking and exploring areas away from the school that are 'off limits.' Strange.

Aplication-First Year Ability- Obnoxiously Strong
ReducioObnoxiously Strong
You have either lifted weights or possess favorable genetics because you are incredibly powerful.
Prerequisite: None
Effect: +10% strength.
ReducioDrew is very obnoxiously strong. Like, I'm serious, this guy is strong. Not only does he have genetics from his father that make him stronger than the average person, but his father is almost obbsessive over being fit, and he works out at a nearby gym ever since he found out about it the "awesome muggle fitness place."
Drew, ever since he was really little, maybe five or six, sometimes went with him. At least once a month, Drew would follow his dad, and try to do everything his dad did. If his dad was lifting weights, Drew lifted weights, though they weren't as heavy as his dad's at first. If his dad was on a treadmill, Drew wanted to be on a treadmill, though his wasn't quite as fast. If his dad was doing crunches, Drew was doing crunches (or trying). As he grew older, Drew got stronger and stronger, and he began to catch up with his dad, though he might not ever be as strong as his dad.
So, for around seven years now, Drew has been going with his dad to the gym, twice to three times a month, and he is getting way better at it. He comes home sore but is always stronger the next time, and he enjoys the bonding time with his father. And every time, the nice lady at the desk named Janet gives him a lollipop, which he appreciates.
To only add to that, Drew is interested in sports. Not just Quidditch, but he does football and, in the summer, swim team. Every season, he does really well and has placed in the top three several times. Swimmers and football players are also famed for getting way stronger from doing the sport.
This has resulted in him having muscles, bigger than others but not, like, absolutely ripped biceps. He is taller than others, at 5'7". This has attracted many girls. Not only is his personality desirable, but since he is obnoxiously strong, he is not too shabby on the outside, either. Girls have asked him to date them, and once, even demanded him to date them. He has had a couple crushes, but hasn't thought to act on them quite yet.
So Drew has always been strong, stronger than most. Rose often asks him to open her bottles when the caps are on too tightly, as well as his friends at school. He could always open that door at school that got stuck all the time, and helped his team to victory in almost every tug-of-war.WC: 426
Application-Second Year Ability- Fearless
ReducioFearless
You do not scare easily. In fact they might even call you fearless.
Prerequisites: None
Effect: Fear effects such as a dhmpir's aura, the ability terrible presence, a lycanothrope's intimidation or certain charms, potions and jinxes that would normally cause a fear effect do not work on you as you are immune to them.
ReducioDrew is, and always has been, the definition of confident. He is not fazed by any insults, though he will no doubt defend himself. He is not fazed by any sort of uncomfortable hanging in the air, or looking weird in front of other people. He takes risks, and is often reckless in his confidence- it has cost him sometimes, though, once he decided it would be fun to jump across a creek in the woods in his backyard, and slipped into the creek, coming out soaked and sporting a fractured hand. To only add to his recklessness, Drew's mother and father never discouraged him against taking a leap of faith, always encouraged him to take risks and be reckless- to find his own way in the world. To not be scared of anything, because that would restrict him from being who he wanted to be, and what he wanted to do, sometimes what he needed to do. If he was ever scared of doing something, they would encourage him (or sometimes force him) to do it anyway.
He went to muggle schools until he was accepted into Ilvermorny and tried out for the football team, and got in. He made reckless but amazing plays, and often got himself benched or doing penalties for trying something.
His grades might not have been the best in the class because of this, because he often simply didn't care if he didn't have good grades- it just wasn't important to him.
Drew was the kind of guy in class that would give an opinion writing on that subject, that touchy subject. He was the kind of guy that when guys who were older and bigger than him, approached his friends, or even innocent victims, he was not afraid to punch first. He was the kind of guy who would encourage his friends to do something fun but reckless, that guy who would sit with who he felt like, that guy who was not intimidated by teachers. He was the kind of guy who would approach that one kid everyone was scared of and ask them how their day was going, that one guy that then introduced said kid to his many friends. He was the kind of guy who stood up to people being bullied, not really caring if he was bullied himself. He was known at school for being that kind of guy, as well as the guy you could approach about just about anything. Drew was the kind of guy that was not scared of anything... you could call him fearless.

Nothing has been overtly odd for Andrew. Sure, the headmaster never came back after he went to Scotland, allegedly he went to London. There were some rumors, most of them frankly ridiculous, so very likely. The man was 'extra' so any rumor that involved his extra nature seemed likely with the upper classmen. What Drew has found rather odd are these strange shallow holes he encountered throughout the grounds when he works out (maintaining his buffness). While a reason has never been determined, the fact they they keep springing up despite the originals being filled in has been... just odd.

So, this year has been sort of weird. I never really thought of myself as ‘pretty’ but I guess I have decided to actually put some effort into my appearance this year. I started not only hanging out with the popular crew, but I started wearing the same brands of clothes, started following along with the trends. I wash my face each morning and have started putting some makeup on. Then I fix my hair and let it hang down just like the other girls. I wear my clothes like them most of the time, maybe tying the knot in my shirt or tucking it in. I would act like them, talk like them, basically one of them as long as I wanted it.
Then, it started happening. I noticed other people looking at me and noticing me. It was weird at first, but then I started to get used to it. It was nice being noticed and having a place at the tables at lunch and having a group of people to talk to and hang out with. There were a few boys who did loud extravagant things to get my invitation, and I would let them down easy, but it was incredible that they even knew who I was. Then came the gossiping and teasing, that wasn’t something I cared much about so I moved on.
I started hanging out less with the most popular people after a while because I felt like they were all pretty shallow, the instant I decided to hang out with a group, I noticed that they were being noticed. (I did quite a bit of noticing) I started to realize that it wasn’t that I was nice or their friend, but I looked pretty. It felt like I didn’t really matter as much as what I looked like and what I stood for.
I guess I have a lot of friends, but no one super close. I don’t mind that much, it gives me time to sort of do what I want. I started messing on the broom a bit and have got really good at it last year. When I’m on the broom, its almost like I get more attention—almost like I’m more than a pretty face.
Its starting to get to me though. Is being popular even worth it? I vied for attention all of my second and third year, but this year, I want more. But its not like I’ll be able to hide what I look like. I guess I’ll just have to try to show that I’m more than what I look like. There’s more to me than popularity and good looks.

Since the ball last year, the school has underwent a lot of changes. Yeah, the headmaster stayed in the UK but that was not the oddest thing. Nobody made a big fuss over it, but doors were being locked. Not like the normal locks on the storage cabinets to protect the wares. These were locks on the castle, not to keep the kids in but to keep something else out. The Professors never talked about what or why, but they seemed to Patrol more than the Prefects who were left to patrol the inner recesses of the castle. The students who had snuck out in the middle of the night were punished severely, panic when someone was not in their bed, an entire house was roused and the castle was turned inside out until the student was found. Then for the next month... that student lived in detention.

ReducioTheodore grew up, always carrying the responsibility one automatically carries being the oldest kid amongst a bunch of younger siblings. It was him, who was responsible for looking after the three others on their way to school, him, who made it his task to be there for his little sister, the only girl, as much as the two other boys, as hard as it was for a while. He always valued the bond he had with his siblings, and it was undenyable him, who convinced the three that they were invincible as long as they stuck together.
That dream image didn't quite work like he hoped it would. Theo's siblings would stick with him- but seperately. Amongst themselves the twins and Anabelle were almost indifferent about one another. It was Theo then, who tried to be the counterpart for Anabelle, that the twins were for one another, and at the same time to be the cool older brother for the twins.
That on the other hand did work. Where other siblings might have tried to avoid there siblings in public, even pretended not to have one, out of puberty embarassment, Theo was a cool older brother for them, who they went to when they had issues in school, with other children or were scared of something.
As the oldest, it was mostly him, who his parents asked for help or shared their worries with. Even after entering puberty, he was still the least troublesome of the siblings and took a great deal of stress off his parents' backs. The boy was pretty much carrying the whole family on his back, and while it might have stressed out other childre, Theo was happy to make his family happy, or at least make things easier for them. While on the outside it looked like they were simply a family that could work perfectly well together, the family knew that it was Theo, who was keeping it together. It was visible when he was in school longer than his siblings were. When he came home, he would often walk in to his mother yelling at the twins, but it would most of the times stop immediately. At home it always seemed like Theo was radiating calmness. It was a place he knew, he felt safe at, a place where he always had things under control.
Things changed after he went to Ilvermorny. He exchanges owls with Ana, but although her vague responses never include any negative things, he is sure, that there is a lot of chaos at home. After he got used to the school, he went back to his rather calm self. At least when he is not provoked. If one doesn't know him, he can seem a little intimidating, as he likes to tease and joke around with people, but when it is serious, danger or simply the need to talk, he would not let anyone down. In one on one conversations, one would feel that calming presence particularly strong.
One thing, that his sister Anabelle said before he went to go to Ilvermorny, made him think for a long while.
"Theo, you are the anchor of ship Duncain. We'll be drifting away for a while, without a doubt. But we'll get back on course. If there is no anchor, we have a steering wheel. If it gets serious, we can all navigate this ship."
Did you know that there was a Hogwarts student that witnessed a murder? The murder of their parents? The worst part of it is those guilty of this terrible crime, which involved an unforgivable, is the fact that they recently escaped. [Article this month, to be published in the Prophet this week for lurkers I am slow OK] Poor dear. No names were given, but seems pretty gosh darn scary.
Ilvermorny NPC
**************************************
Name: Silvia Ventress
Age: 11
School Year: 1st
House: Horned Serpent
Race: Human
Blood Status: Pureblood
**************************************
Appearance: Silvia, or Silver, as everyone calls her, has dark blonde hair that fall down her back in beautiful, sweeping curls. Her skin is tan and smooth, unmarked by any visible imperfections. Her eyes are a piercing deep blue hue containing specks of silver within them, framed by long, dark eyelashes. She carries herself proudly, her posture perfected after years of lessons on how to appear proper and regal. When she is particularly pleased with herself, Silver will also adopt a smirk and a slight upward head tilt, making her appear even more conceited than normal. If Silver is afraid, her posture may dip slightly and her cheeks may slightly pale, but other than that, she keeps it well hidden. When she isn't clothed in her wizarding robes, Silver dresses primarily in shorts and tube tops, though she never wears the same outfit more than twice in her life. She also has a silver moon necklace which she never takes off, which is one of the reasons for her nickname.
Personality: Silver was raised believing that she was the best out of everyone: better than the no-Majs, certainly better than the Mudbloods, and even above her fellow wizard-borns and Pure-bloods. Not that this opinion was unfounded, as Silver had always been beautiful and intelligent, even as a child. She was also always thought of as powerful, though she did not begin truly practicing magic until she began studying at Ilvermorny. All of this served to give the girl a higher-than-life attitude, and she truly believed that she was more worthy than all around her. Due to this, Silver does not treat any of her peers as if they are equal to her, and it is a popular belief around children her age that she is not somebody to be messed with. Though, had someone tried, Silver would have retaliated with a strike much more deadly and focused on ruining that person's reputation. After all, better to crush the hopes of whoever tried to go against her early on, and keep the retaliation itself simple and not provable to have been done by her. This was her way, to keep up a fearsome reputation amongst her peers while staying out of all trouble and not bringing any shame to her family. If any students tried to complain about the girl to any adults or teachers, they likely wouldn't be believed, as Silver behaved nothing short of perfect when around influential adults. Her parents always told her reputation and status were never to be sacrificed, after all.
Her belief of her own worth and her treatment of her peers kept Silver lacking anyone to get close with. In fact, the girl only really ever had one friend. After their- falling out, to put it simply- see below Silver was left without any friends at all. Despite her mother's assurances that friends aren't necessary and are nothing more than distractions from her studies and social progression in the world, the girl finds it difficult to subscribe to her family's notion that the only people she needs at all are her parents and her political allies. Though she tries her hardest to remain indifferent to the people all around her, Silver is incredibly lonely, and all the girl really wants is a friend.
History: Always a family of rich and prideful Purebloods, the Ventresses had originally come to America from the south of England some ninety years before Silver's father, Atticus, was born. Her mother, Beatrice Ventress, too, belonged to a long line of Pureblooded wizards, though her side of the family cared much more about class and appearances than Silver's father did. Though she never confronted her about it, Silver had always secretly believed that her mother had married her father more for the sake of allying herself with a powerful and well-known wizarding family and retaining the Pureblood bloodline than because of true love. After all, Silver's parents always said that relationships in their world were based off strategy and political politeness more so than real love or closeness anyways.
Another lesson Silver's parents constantly reminded her of was on the matter of blood, and how wizards of pure magical descent were becoming less and less common as the years went on. Because of this, the few Purebloods that remained were to be honored above all the others, even the wizard-borns. Half-bloods were tolerable, as it wasn't the child's decision to be born to a Muggle-born, though the parents should still lose respect for tainting the bloodline. No-Majs shouldn't recieve hate, either, as they were similar to the animals roaming the earth as far as Silver's family was concerned. As long as they stayed out of the wizards' way, the no-Majs were fine. Surprisingly, Silver was always taught never to hate Squibs, or think of them as lower than other wizards and witches. Rather, she was told that people like this, people who were born into proper wizarding families yet possessed no magic of their own, should be pitied and spoken to kindly, rather like a patient with some fatal disease. It wasn't their fault they were born without magic, after all. It was the fault of the Muggle-borns, who stole the Squibs' magic and took it as their own; the Mudbloods, who should be rightfully hated for their thievery of the magic that did not truly belong to them.
All of this was said to Silver in private, of course, and she knew that to reveal to anyone what she and her parents truly thought about the wizards and witches around them would be dealing a catastrophic blow to her family's social standing, and to her parent's positions in MACUSA. So, all of the Ventress's talk of no-Majs and Mudbloods was kept behind closed doors, and Silver made sure never to let it slip out to anyone when she was talking, especially not her professors or anyone with a high position in the Magical Congress. Perhaps because of this forced secrecy, or maybe due to her parent's insistence that all friendships outside their own family were created for appearances only, the girl had difficulty actually getting close to people her own age.
In fact, Silver only really ever had one friend, a girl named Rose Witherbloom. Rose's parents were Purebloods, too, and had ties to MACUSA, so when her family moved to New York the two girls were allowed to spend their days together as a form of company for each other and someone to share their classes with. The two got close over time, closer than Silver had ever been with anyone else before, and Rose even had her own nickname for Silver. A name that no one else called her or even knew about. Rose called her Via. Silver rather liked that name, liked the way it sounded coming from Rose's lips. Via. She liked how it seemed like it could belong to some pretty name, like Olivia, and not the dreadfully boring one that she herself actually had.
In time, though, Silver realized she didn't want to be just friends with Rose. She wanted to be more, to be able to hold Rose and maybe even kiss her the way she had seen people do on the streets and at the fancy parties her parents took her to. She started to think about Rose all the time, to dream about her perfectly curling blonde hair and her sparkling green eyes. So, one day, when the two girls were playing together after lessons in the Ventress family home, Silver decided to lean over and kiss her best friend. Rose seemed to go shock-still, not moving right up until the sound of a door creaking open interrupted Silver and yelling filled the room. Looking back on it now, Silver reckoned that the girl had merely been too shocked to move away or really react at all, and that was what had kept her from leaving earlier. In any case, the sudden entrance of Silver's mother and her infuriated screams at her daughter were enough to snap Rose out of her stupor and leave her running from the room. Attracted by the noise, Silver's father soon entered the room and calmed her mother's hysterical shrieks, which seemed to be centered around how much of a disappointment Silver was and how disastrous it would be if anyone found out. Not understanding what she had done wrong or why her mother was reacting like this, Silver simply sat in silence, tears flowing from her eyes in an unstoppable flow. Eventually, Silver's father was able to get her mother from the room and took Silver to his study, where he sat her down on his knee and quietly told her that those kind of relationships were only to be shown between men and women, and that even if she did feel something, Silver had to hide it or her entire family's reputation would be ruined. The girl finally calmed down and promised her father to never disappoint him and her mother like that again, though she still couldn't understand why he was saying what he was. Neither of her parents had gotten mad when other people had kissed in front of them before, after all. But it didn't matter. Her father said she couldn't be like that, and so Silver resolved to keep that part of herself hidden away forever. Arrangements were made to keep the Witherblooms from telling anyone about what had happened that day, and the incident was never brought up in the family again. Rose didn't come to visit anymore after that.
A few days later, Silver was sitting in her room thinking about the one person she had always held dearest to her heart and would now probably never see again. Unable to bear it any longer, she ran to her father's office and demanded that he allow her to see Rose. When he refused, time and time again, Silver opened her mouth and began to scream. She screamed until her throat was raw, until her father's hands were up covering his ears, until all of the pendants in the glass chandelier hanging high above her father's study were split into a million pieces and were left falling onto her and her father. The cuts and scrapes left by the falling shards were quickly healed, but the incident was never forgotten. After all, it would be difficult for Silver's parents to ignore this even if it hadn't been her first case of accidental magic.

Abilities: Lovely Creature | Word Count: 574ReducioSilver had always been beautiful, even as a child. She knew it, her parents knew it, everybody that had ever laid eyes on the child knew it. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," they say, but throughout all her years of living, Silver had never met anyone who failed to spare her a second glance. It was a common occurrence, in fact, for Silver to tilt her head only to find someone hurriedly turning their face from her, as if to hide that they had been staring. Some people didn't even bother to hide it, electing instead to stare at her dead-on, some looking rather like deers caught in the beam of headlights. Silver found that her feelings towards these people, the ones that didn't turn away, were complicated and tended to change based on her mood. Some days, she respected the observers, admiring their unabashed resolve to see something pretty and look at it. At other times, Silver found herself despising and even fearing the creeps. She was a person, not some shiny thing to be ogled at like a diamond put on display. How dare they treat her like nothing more than a sight for their eyes to see?
Her beauty came mostly from her mother, Silver supposed. Her father was handsome, no doubt about it, but the women in his family were simply pretty, not striking. Silver's mother, on the other hand, did not just have good looks. She was regal, incredibly so, and that elegance brought with it a certain air of boldness and self-confidence that served only to heighten the woman's beauty. Though not nearly as much as her daughter, Beatrice Ventress, too, drew all eyes when she entered a room. She knew the value beauty held in her world, and so she made sure her daughter knew it too.
See, Silver was taught by her mother how to use her beauty to her advantage. She learned that smiling just a bit wider or perhaps twirling a strand of her hair around her finger when talking to a classmate could get them to let her skip them on line for something or copy their homework. Not that Silver needed somebody else's work, of course, as the girl was equipped with not only extraordinary beauty but also a sharp wit. Sometimes, when Silver's parents took her to fancy parties thrown by other higher-up Pureblood families, her mother introduced her to some of the couples with male children around Silver's age, and somehow, the conversation always drifted to whether their sons were interested in anyone at the moment and if they had scoped out anyone to marry yet. Silver knew that in these scenarios, she was essentially being offered as a bribe to get the couple to comply with her parent's wishes, as the implication was there that perhaps Silver herself could become the wife of that son. It didn't bother the girl much to be used like this, though she knew her father didn't necessarily approve of these tactics of her mother's. As long as Silver wasn't made to actually marry any of these boys, she couldn't see the harm in her mother making false promises about it. Sometimes, though, when Silver was lying awake in her bed at night, she would think back to the parties and find that it hurt to think about her mother using her as more of a tool than an actual child.

Is your character a Duelist? No
Note: Though I don't think Silver's family's reputation would actually be ruined if anyone found out about her being bi, that's what her parents believe and so that's what I included above.

Name: Jayden Holt
Age: 13
School Year: 3
House: Wampus
Race: Human
Blood Status: Pure-blood
Appearance: Fair, flawless skin with a light and rosy tan, reflecting an active and outdoorsy lifestyle that keeps her figure slim, lightly toned with muscle. She inherited her father's brown hair and eyes, lightened to a chestnut hue with the blend of her mother's golden curls and sky blue orbs. Jayden's straight locks fall to her mid-back, often tied in a ponytail, or let down for special occasions. Currently 5 ft, 3 in, she isn't expected to grow past her 5'5" mother.
Personality: Overall friendly and polite to her peers, rarely dropping her slight smile and gleam of amusement in her eye, which is her natural poker face. Jayden abides by the country girl mix of sweet yet strong, with a tomboy streak that feeds into her competitive side, particularly where offensive and defensive magic is concerned.
History: Born November 14, 2006 to Jason and Evelyn (née Speirs) Holt. Jayden's first sign of magic was a firework burst of red and white sparks, screaming in glee when she found out she was going to become a big sister. Two days after her eighth birthday, her brother Forrest was born. She and her family lived on a ranch nestled within the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming. While an unassuming log cabin on the surface, through a hidden closet doorway, the house extended underground into a cavernous mansion, with windows, balconies, and stables housing winged magical creatures opening along the cliffside of a mountain, overlooking a scenic riverine valley below. Life on the ranch was paradise for Jayden, who would have chosen homeschooling in a heartbeat, if not for her parents' decision to expand her social and cultural horizons of the world by sending her abroad to Ilvermorny.

It all started with upbringing, and perhaps ran a little in the genes as well. Nature or nurture, Jayden had been imprinted with ideals of perfectionism since she was a toddler. Not so much by her own parents, but from relatives and extended members of the Holt and Speirs clans - particularly those of elite and upper-class circles - who saw it best to educate Jayden in all refined, classy, and “respectable” aspects of pure-blood wizarding society. Table etiquette, ballroom dancing, attire, and tactfulness of speech… Not a step, frill, or hair out of place. With these rigorous lessons came the instillation of self-discipline, as well as the more inspiring notion that one could become anything so long as they set their mind to it. Practice did make perfect, after all.
Her parents, while more lenient and less demanding of what their daughter ought to pursue for her future, never failed to stress the importance a clean room (for “A clear space is a clear mind”, and the road to perfectionism first began with tidying up one’s quarters), along with high grades - once Jayden arrived at Ilvermorny - for nothing short of excellence would guarantee to unlock as many doors as possible for Jayden’s future, even if she never opened any of them, at least the opportunities would always be there for her to consider later on.
Unfortunately, the boring and monotonous task of reading and writing - the basis upon which academic success was hinged - did not come so easily enticing. Jayden was a stubborn physical learner, to no fault of her own genetics. Yet she was determined to succeed, and to make her parents proud. Through many tutors (some begged for, others bribed for), and though it often took twice as long for her to absorb words on paper, Jayden forced herself to “enjoy” studying and achieve high marks. Being a perfectionist in the academic sense did not come natural at first, but through hard work and self-discipline, Jayden adopted the mentality and accomplished that which she set her goals on. And with her newfound reputation to keep as being a “smart” student, all the more pushed Jayden to reach the top of her class.
Hands-on activity, however, was a different story. Books could only achieve so much, and luckily were not so important in the long run, compared to one’s skill with a wand.
That was where Jayden’s perfectionism really came into play.

Year 2: Perfectionist 2

Feeling the instant spark of connection flow through her from her wand, was a moment long dreamed of by Jayden, the day she arrived at Ilvermorny at the start of her first year. All Jayden wanted to do at school was practice spells, excelling at Charms and DADA right off the bat, as far as the actual performance of spells was concerned. While Jayden only devoted enough time to books in order to “get by” with acing the next assignment, pop-quiz or test, words on paper hardly registered in her mind long-term, not without some physical accompaniment to sear it into memory. She was a true tactile learner, enrapt by the grandeur of spellcasting. Books were all fluff. Spells were real substance, not only in which all the fun was to be had, but the only thing one could depend on to save their life when facing an enemy. Nothing excited Jayden more than to put her spell work to the test, to hone her skill with the wand and build up practical experience. Books, she could force herself to endure, but spellcasting was where Jayden’s zeal for learning truly lied.
Dueling was to prepare her for those worst case scenarios, an activity that her parents strongly encouraged, and which Jayden felt immediately drawn to participate in. No surprise, considering both of her parents and a majority of the Holt and Speirs clans were also Wampuses, many of them pursuing Auror careers in light of their potential. Living up to the “warrior” stereotype of her House, Jayden found thrill in the Dueling arena and dedicated herself to the sport. Whenever she wasn’t occupied with schoolwork, Jayden would train in the Dueling ring every chance she got. Winning was always the goal. Still, it was only practice, no matter how heated and competitive the matches got. Jayden wasn’t a sore loser, nor did she boast about her victories. Rather, she viewed Dueling as a chance to teach and to learn from others. If she failed a match, Jayden bore no shame in asking the winner for lessons on their strategy. Regardless of House or blood status, wizardkind was a team (according to the “traitorous” beliefs of her parents). In fairness of teamwork, Jayden wouldn’t withhold from sharing her own Dueling techniques with her competitors as well, despite being aware of every Duelist’s underlying motive to one day use an opponents’ techniques against them. All the more, this prompted Jayden to stay on top of her game, to perfect every spell and constantly strive for better, keeping one step ahead of her opponents.

Year 3: Fearless
Reducio
Fear of heights was never an obstacle for Jayden, growing up in the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming. Part of her family’s house was built along the side of a steep mountain cliff. Poking her head perilously out of a window or over a balcony, Jayden could stare down from the miles-long sheer drop, admiring the beauty of the valley below, without feeling a heart drop in her chest. Not as dangerous as riding a creature with a mind of its own, from the same height in mid-air. Jayden was on the back of a hippogriff before she could walk, wrapped in the protective arm of her father for her first joyride through the sky. Freedom and bliss. The caress of wind brought smiles and giggles to the infant’s face, unfazed by the reality of falling distance below her. Riding hippogriffs and winged horses proved to be Jayden’s introductory course in mounting a broom for the first time at Ilvermorny, which she adjusted fairly quickly to. At least brooms didn’t have half so much a mind of their own. Aside from Charms and DADA, Flying became second nature to her, though Quidditch didn’t call so much to her competitive interests than Dueling.
There was no shortage of adventures and dangers to be found in the remote wilderness surrounding the Holts’ homestead. Both magical and non-magical alike lurked in the woods, requiring no small amount of bravery for Jayden to step in and protect her loved ones from an attacker. From an early age, Jayden learned to mask her fear in tending to the family’s menagerie of magical creatures. Animals often reflected a person’s emotions, and a calm and quiet mind was necessary to be able to tame and handle most of them. Hippogriffs and winged horses of note.
It wasn’t until she stepped foot in the Dueling ring that Jayden really learned how to control her fear. Where fortitude and mental strength was put to the test, in a battle of wands. Stage fright was easier to overcome than her opponents, who came in all walks of life (some more naturally intimidating than others). Over time, Jayden learned to hone her focus and sharpen her concentration to a spear, in order to pierce the veil of illusion of fear intended to distract her. Even if it was “only a game”, Dueling was preparation for the real-world thing. Jayden wouldn’t allow any fear to get the best of her, in learning to stand strong on her own.

Fearless children are often the first to find trouble. Your trouble would be the panic in the voices of some of the Professors this one time a stranger (who you presumed worked there) offered you candy. Football (the real kind, not that soccer business) might have been the inspiration for the flying tackle by the Potions professor. A pair of upperclassmen prefects ushered you away. You never saw that stranger again. nobody was willing to tell you what that was all about.5/18Deactivated per player request.

Adding more flavor to Jayden's Appearance, Personality, and History. I am changing Jayden's first incidence of magic (skip to the underlined section of History's lengthy read) because I believe a younger age is more appropriate, given her pure-blooded Wampus legacy. If approved, this post will replace the original app and update request. Delete them, cross them out, whatever.
Will save the fancy formatting for my encyclopedia page.
Name: Jayden Holt
School: Ilvermorny
Year: 3
House: Wampus
Blood Status: Pure-blood
Appearance:ReducioPersonality:
She's reached her adult height at 5 feet, 7 inches. Endomorph build, solid and stout as an oak, with a little more pillowy softness to her lightly toned physique, instilling curves in all the right places. She's a healthy slim weight, a few calluses hiding under her palms and soles. A rosy tan usually deepens her fair complexion, reflecting an active and outdoorsy lifestyle. Chestnut brown hair and eyes, noticeable when the sun hits them just right with a reddish hue; otherwise they're unremarkably darker. Her silky straight locks are trimmed at a modest mid-back length, usually tied in a ponytail or braid to keep the strands out of her face.
Her looks are comely, rather than show-stopping. A bit more ruddy and rugged than one would expect from the average pure-blood. While Jayden can speak perfectly eloquent accent-less English in public, particularly to the Brits abroad; or a New York accent to flaunt her big city image; the slight twang of her western accent clings without effort and shines through in a full-on drawl when she's completely relaxed with someone, completing the southern belle charm she radiates.
As with her accent, her wardrobe is fit to match the occasion. At Hogwarts, she represents the high-class wizarding and Muggle societies of her New York city upbringing. While unafraid of pink, lace, makeup, and shiny hair gems, she's less bold in wearing any sort of heel – except the cowboy ones she hides at the bottom of her trunk – or jewelry, finding ornaments a nuisance and necklaces a choking hazard.
Far from the reach of her New York relatives, Jayden tinkers with freedom of expression at Hogwarts. Boot cut jeans and plaid flannel shirts – her favorite. Leather fringe vest and prairie skirt. Deerskin and gingham dresses. Cowboy hat and authentic coonskin cap (that she made herself, excluding the gory details). A colorful blend of Wild West fashion… Aside from the modern-looking ball cap, dog tags, and camouflage jacket oddly jumbled in.
A little sus for a New York city-slicker. Someone who's supposed to be, anyway.ReducioHistory:Ilvermorny. Duellist. New York.
Jayden's relatives and professors don't demand much from her to represent those three things, hammered into her since she arrived at the Empire State. Homesickness was never an option. If you can't beat them, join them. Jayden's never been one to wallow in self-pity, or back down from a challenge. Her southern discipline of getting things done carries on with the New York phrase wherever she goes. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.
At school, she's persevered as a model student. Minding her manners, getting top grades, and rising to the ranks of the Duelling team. She still wears the loud, proud country girl on her sleeve – no exception to southern hospitality and getting her hands dirty. Sweet, independent, down-to-earth… And a bit of a kooky redneck at times. She can square dance, play the fiddle, shoot a rifle, and roast a perfectly good roadkill. (Un)fortunately, that side of her is mostly stifled, maintaining her façade as a prim and proper New York city girl, trained in piano and ballet. The latter of which she hates with a passion and tries to flake out on whenever possible.
Those that get to know Jayden, don't have to dig very far to realize that her heart belongs to the American West, at one with the wild mustangs (and winged ones). Jayden tries to keep a lid on specifics regarding her past: Born in Wyoming, raised a little in Texas, mingled with the Native Americans of her distant heritage, and lived the Wild West before coming to New York, just in time for Ilvermorny. Despite her few years of city upbringing, she's still got a ways of refinement to work on, and is rather defiant about sticking to her roots.
She's a typical horse-crazy girl and, despite their differences, admires her New York relatives very much; torn between wanting to become an Auror (if she stays in the city) or a rancher (if she returns to the country) and/or winged horse racer, and claims she owns a Granian back home in Wyoming. Duelling is the one thing that brings an air of Old West familiarity of home back to her, like a gunslinger, channeling that competitive warrior spirit that runs heavily in her family.
As for boys? Well… She might have someone back home in mind. But who's asking?ReducioIt all started with the founding father: Zeuximides of Hyrie, a Greek wizard who made contact with the Native Americans in 700 BC, long before No-Maj explorers arrived. He married a Shoshone witch, whose tribe named him Sun Wolf, and their descendants flourished in the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming ever since. Some migrated into the Great Plains with the Comanche, and it is through that fearsome tribe that the blood of warriors entered the Sun Wolf clan, diverging into several pure-blood lines – a melting pot of Native American and European settler. With the enactment of Rappaport's Law, one Comanche brave – War Cloud – claimed the title as chief over the Sun Wolf clan, rallying them into hiding. Their fortress: Sun Wolf Village, nestled within the Wind River Range of the Rockies, where Zeuximides lived and long since rested with his Shoshone brethren. As the Law was repealed, so did the "royal" pure-blood line adopt the surname Warcloud, in connecting with the outside world once more. . .
It's a lot of history for Jayden to wrap her head around.
The Holts are distantly related to the Warclouds. Big city folk from the northeast – as is her mother's side. Jason Holt married Evelyn Speirs, and at the invitation of near-forgotten relatives – a Sun Wolf clan census reunion – the couple was drawn to the rural beauty of Wyoming. Retiring early from their Auror careers, mainly to start their new family in peace without fear of orphaning their child to the dangers of their profession, Jason and Evelyn exchanged the skyscrapers of New York for a log cabin in the Rockies, and there Jayden Holt was born, on November 14, 2006.
Marriage is, and will always be, an underlying concern to preserve blood purity. It is no secret to Jayden that the Warclouds hope to matchmake her with one of their own, reconnecting the old branch of Holts to the central bough. Not out of wealth, status, or real arrogant sense of blood superiority, but certainly out of pride for tradition, preserving the "old magic" of Zeuximides' descendants to govern their ancestral home, Sun Wolf Village. While an unassuming log cabin on the surface, through a hidden closet doorway, the Holts' residence extended underground into a cavernous mansion. One of hundreds of "rooms" that made up the "palace" of the Sun Wolf clan, with windows, balconies, and stables housing winged magical creatures opening along the cliffs of the Wind River Range, overlooking a scenic valley below. The entire village was a labyrinth, a time capsule of cave paintings and hot springs, carved throughout the mountains. A wizarding community all its own, and the headquarters of Sun Wolf affairs.
Jayden grew up in this village, where the heart of Shoshone culture sought to instill her in tribal ways, grooming her into a potential bride, though this upbringing was rather loose, compared to her Warcloud cousins at the center of the clan's attention. Most of Jayden's primary education was spent on the farm – collectively, several farms owned by the Sun Wolf clan. Community is a vital part of life, and while the divide between wizard and Muggle world is emphasized, the clan relies on its "outer circle" of diluted blood and No-maj relatives to sustain their Muggle front as an agricultural empire, expanding several farms across the States. With neighbors few and far between, it's not all that difficult to avoid anyone.
At the head of farm management were several pure-blood lines related to the Warclouds. Unlike the Holts, the Eslingers never forsook their roots in Wyoming, maintaining close relations with the Sun Wolf clan. Hardly a pampered childhood on the Eslinger ranch, Jayden was raised by rugged outdoors(wo)men who prided themselves on doing things the Old-West-fashioned way (think 18th century pioneer before Rappaport's law was enacted and Muggle fashion was cut off from the Sun Wolf clan). Though mainly for show, even the old guns of the century prevailed with the Eslingers. Under supervision, Jayden had the privilege of shooting bottles with a flintlock pistol on a few occasions.
Farms served as daycares for children, and the majority of mundane tasks at the Eslinger ranch were done by hand, on foot, and on horseback. Hunting animals, tanning hides, hoeing fields, hewing firewood, driving cattle, cooking and keeping house. Sunrise to sundown, full of back-breaking labor. Partly intended to push offspring to their limit, to unleash early magic. Whenever tiredness got the better of her or she wished for an extra pair of hands, sometimes Jayden's chores would accomplish themselves: Knitting needles, rolling pins, washing boards, butter churns, and shovels moving on their own; doors opening and gates locking; fruit raining down from trees and entire fleece coats dropping off of sheep without lifting a finger. Accidents were one thing, but if the Eslingers caught wind of her purposely trying to cheat her way out of manual labor, there were harsh reprimands and no shortage of paddlings for underage offenders.
Such discipline was far from abusive. Jayden adored the Eslingers and likewise, they had practically raised her and her parents in assimilating to the frontier lifestyle, merging everyone together as one big family, along with the Warclouds who emphasized the "village" part of raising a child. In line with preserving tradition as farmers and hunters, it was the Sun Wolf belief that magic came from life, tending to Mother Earth, as well as death, claiming the life essence of magic through bloodshed. Primitive ways breed the most raw form of magic. Hence the reason why physical labor was stressed to "fatten up" the wizard stock, to make them more powerful, drawing from a spiritual connection to the untamed land.
Magic was practiced just as religiously, honing the arts of war and healing, intended to double the sweat of what was already allotted to daily life. Jayden received early classroom instruction through the Eslinger-Warcloud homeschooling program (though the issuing of wands coincided with Ilvermorny's age entrance). Mainly a bunch of history lectures (including about said Zeuximides), is all Jayden could remember snoring to. Watching the older kids practice with their wands, was a little more entertaining. Spectating the adult games and dueling competitions that took place on Sun Wolf territory – a Wild West show between Cowboy and Indian wizard – well, that was where the real excitement was, to look forward to on the weekends.
As for that first sign of magic, Jayden didn't keep her parents waiting for long. At four months old, sleeping in the same room as her parents, she had Apparated herself out of her crib, onto her parents' bed to be with them, shortly after the lights were put out and startling her father awake as she crawled on top of his face. Separation anxiety and pining for one parent/caregiver over the other would trigger a few more Apparition incidents before she hit her first birthday, after which she calmed down, becoming more interested in the world.
Two days after Jayden's eighth birthday, her brother Forrest was born. With a new child for her parents to fuss over, the reins were slackened for Jayden to roam beyond the Eslinger ranch, entrusted to the clan's guardianship.
Other pure-blood relatives of the Warclouds, the Quasts, managed another farm in Texas, where Jayden was allowed to visit for a spell. The Quasts were a more progressive country family, introducing Jayden to blue jeans and flannel shirts, as well as the marvels of gas and electricity needed to power the front of a respectable Muggle farm on the urban outskirts. If that wasn't bad enough, exposing Jayden to Muggle technology, then came by the Hardys, relatives of the Quasts from neighboring Louisiana. Descendants of Appalachian hillbillies, the Hardys' more or less subtle homage to "Sweet Home Alabama" yielded a pure-blood line of hardcore rednecks in every American sense of the word. While far more brazen about mingling with No-Majs and utilizing modern technology, their backwoods ways served as deterrent to common Muggle and wizard alike.
Jayden was swept away. Quite literally, in the back of the Hardys' pickup truck. A whirlwind cruise of rodeos and honky-tonks, quad bikes and waffle houses…
She came home to Wyoming with a southern drawl, ripped jeans, and an idolizing obsession for the Quasts and the Hardys. Particularly one Trevor Hardy – her shining camo knight on a mud-splattered dune buggy. Smitten by his scruffy blond hair, ruddy cheeks, dog tags, and steel blue eyes. He was magnificent. Three years her senior. Together, their rebel antics had sparked a bit of accidental magic out of Jayden, involving an electric fan, a beaver, and a funeral home. Fortunately with no serious Muggle consequences.
Her parents were horrified, and grounded their daughter from going anywhere near the likes of the Hardy "savages" ever again.
The decision to send Jayden to Ilvermorny was met with much protest from the Warclouds and Eslingers (and Jayden herself), favoring the more disciplined, conservative homeschooling. Meanwhile, the Holt and Speirs clans in New York were adamant about liberating Jayden from the Sun Wolf's primitive ways, and with assurances that they would keep a tight leash on her movements, Jayden was shipped to New York, reuniting with her parents' immediate relatives.
Her grandparents, aunts, and uncles all coveted her as their own. Jayden was given a life of luxury she never imagined, and all lessons of etiquette, shaping her into a "civilized" pure-blood. With Massachusetts and Ilvermorny next door, both the Holt and Speirs families held a legacy of Wampuses, Aurors, and other military and law enforcement. Perhaps time, distance, and indoctrination would open Jayden's eyes to the urban wizarding world and keep her in the big city for good.
The Duelling Club served as a useful distraction, including culture trips abroad, pushed by her relatives to prevent Jayden from dwelling on the "dangers" back home. Hopefully, to purge Wyoming from her mind altogether. Her parents didn't seem to mind the one-eighty, so long as Jayden forgot all about the Hardys.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder. At Jayden's persistence, she's yet to miss out on a summer in Wyoming. Earning her own horse, then graduating to a Granian at the end of her second year, are far more memorable events to her than that of rinky-dink Hogwarts. In Wyoming, she continues to write to Trevor Hardy via homing pigeon, confident that things will work out for the two of them to see each other again. Granted, he's a pure-blood, but no amount of blood purity can ever redeem his "wicked" Muggle redneck ways in the eyes of her parents. Better a filthy rich Muggle than a Hardy boy.
Though if the matchmaking scheme ever comes to fruition – Warclouds, Holts and Speirses all vying over her for suitors– well… That would complicate things.

- Year 1: Perfectionist
ReducioIt all started with upbringing, and perhaps ran a little in the genes as well.

- Year 2: Perfectionist 2
ReducioFeeling the instant spark of connection flow through her from her wand, was a moment long dreamed of by Jayden, the day she arrived at Ilvermorny at the start of her first year.
Word Count: 431
- Year 3: Fearless
ReducioFear of heights was never an obstacle for Jayden, growing up in the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming.

Having had an early growth spurt, Jasper stands at 5'5. His arms and legs seem a little too long for his torso, giving him a very lanky look. Due to this, he is a little clumsy and often trips over his own feet, much to his dismay. He is quick to blush at anything remotely embarrassing, although even his most aggressive blushing isn't anything more than a slight pink tinge across his nose and cheeks.

====================P E R S O N A L I T YShy and soft-spoken, Jasper finds it hard to talk to strangers and make friends. All through his life, his parents looked down on him for this and often forced him into talking to other kids who had no problem jabbering for hours upon hours. Due to this, he tends to gravitate towards those who are quieter, like him, and finds it easier to bond and make friends with fellow introverts/shy people.
He is easily trusting and always assumes the best of people, having not seen much of the world and growing up pretty sheltered. That being said, in large events/large groups of people, he tends to pick out a person who he trusts the most, or feels the closest to, and follows them everywhere, despite feeling like he's annoying them. Large events with lots of people are not his thing, and he tries to avoid them at all costs.
Despite the quiet demeanor, Jasper is quite the chaotic soul. He enjoys playing harmless pranks, although he doesn't find the time to plan them out nearly as often as he'd like. With an aspiration to become a wizarding lawyer, he also likes to spend his free time finding loopholes in school rules in hopes he can finagle something in his favor. That being said, his main motivation for most things is himself. He is more likely to do something if it benefits him, although nothing will ever give him sufficient motivation to do his homework. He tends to struggle academically, despite his career goals. It's not that he doesn't understand the content taught to him, he just struggles to write essays, do his homework correctly, and learn subject matter through a lecture.B A C K G R O U N DOn October 15, 2007, not one, but two children were born into the McKinnon family. A beautiful boy and girl christened Jasper and Willow, respectively. Their parents, Maisie and Desmond McKinnon tried to give the twins and their older sister Brooke the best childhood possible, although they were both very busy with their jobs and often had to hire a babysitter.
Jasper's first sign of magic was a couple of weeks after his sixth birthday. His babysitter was trying to give him a reading lesson, and Jasper, wanting to go play outside, not sit inside and read, threw a hissy fit, and the book disappeared. Five minutes and one very confused babysitter later, the book reappeared. Jasper was a bit of a late bloomer, sure, considering his sister had shown her first sign of magic at age 2. His parents and siblings had begun to think he was a squib, a lack of patience being a common trait through the McKinnon family.
Jasper has always been really close with his twin. The two of them consider each other their best friends and there has rarely been a thing that they separate for. Until their parents decided to try to give their family name a little boost by contacting distant relatives, the de Fostoncy family. Although the de Fostoncys lived in France and the McKinnons Canada, Maisie and Desmond made sure it was no problem to floo powder their way to the de Fostoncys for every ball and social gathering they held.
Being the shy child he is, Jasper dreaded those events, while his sister, an extrovert, loved them with every fiber of her being. She couldn't understand what about them Jasper didn't like and Jasper couldn't understand what about them she liked. However, one time, Jasper met the de Fostoncy heir, Maximilien, who, coincidentally, was his age. The two hit off and soon became good friends. Maxi was the only good thing about the horrid visits to France.
Little did the McKinnon family know, that the de Fostoncys were just barely tolerating them and soon, they would stop receiving invitations to all the balls and social events.
Meanwhile, Jasper and Willow were having a falling out. With both of them having just completed their first year of school at Ilvermorny and gotten their exam results back, Willow looked with horror at Jasper's results. He'd barely scraped by the written exams, yet done decent on his practical exams. Willow, being one who values education and good grades, took the barely passing grades as evidence that Jasper hadn't been studying and was going off on him for his "poor study habits" and "inability to study". Jasper, had, in fact, tried to study, and tried to explain to Willow that, but his efforts were in vain. She was convinced he wasn't studying and didn't care about school. His parents seemed to share the same idea, although they were less vocal about it. This disagreement between the twins brought Willow vowing to not speak to Jasper until he proved to her that he could study, although that lasted a mere 32 hours. Tensions between the two remained ever since.
Tensions, in fact, were high between Jasper and his older sister too. Well, mainly Jasper was perpetually upset at Brooke. Brooke was like the perfect child. When she was in school, she got perfect grades, was on her house's Quidditch team, and could talk her way into or out of anything. Whenever Jasper brought it up, she always said she had some problems that made her nowhere near perfect but never elaborated. So in Jasper's eyes, she was basically the perfect child. Jasper hated her for that.
He, on the other hand, was nowhere near the "perfect child". He got bad grades in school, was extremely shy, and wanted to duel, but wasn't sure whether he'd get on the team or not. In his family, because their "name" and "family look" mattered so much, he had a sinking suspicion that his bad grades and lack of any major achievements were "bringing down" the "family's name".

ReducioAs Jasper went through his first year of Ilvermorny, he found that he failed miserably at the majority of things. Nothing seemed to come naturally to him. While his peers had a slow start but quickly started to excel in all their classes, Jasper was still at the "slow start" part. He was gaining a bit of understanding in every class, but he struggled with homework and tests.
Sometime first year, he found that he was doing a bit better in charms than any other class. At that point, he was looking for any hope that he had a chance to succeed in the wizarding world, and now that he had found it, he was going to run with it. He really wasn't even doing that well in charms, but at least he wasn't failing the class, and now he was determined to at least bring his grade in that class up.
Almost every night after that, Jasper would stay up late in his common room practicing that day's spells.
---
The spell they'd learned in class that day was hard. Jasper had no idea how to pronounce the incantation, despite hearing everyone else in his class pronounce it. That late at night, he'd already forgotten the specifics of each class and hadn't paid enough attention in charms to even remember the pronunciation of the spell.
So there he was, sitting in one of the slightly uncomfortable common room chairs, squinting at his textbook. It was a rare sight, Jasper McKinnon sitting with an open textbook in his lap. He tended to avoid books in general, due to a hatred for reading and due to how the words seemed to swim around the page. It had taken him longer than he'd admit to find the right page, but it wasn't the journey that mattered, but where he was now.
Wingardium Leviosa.
The incantation stood on the page, taunting him. How was he supposed to pronounce it?!
Seven and a half minutes later...
He was pretty sure the pronunciation of the first word was win-GAR-dee-um. He couldn't see any other way to pronounce it. The second word, though, he had no idea how it was supposed to be said. He'd tried lee-vee-oh-sa, but that hadn't worked, and the same with leh-vie-oh-sa. The only other way he could think to pronounce it was leh-vee-oh-sa. Maybe that's it, he thought eagerly, readying his wand.
"win-GAR-dee-um leh-vee-OH-sa," he recited, swishing and flicking his wand with sharp and clean movements. He'd gotten the wand movement down in class. He always seemed to get the wand movements right before the pronunciation. The paper in front of his shakily rose. Finally, finally the charm had worked.
---
That wasn't the first time he'd stayed up late to perfect a charm. Now that he knew it only took a little practice to make the charm work. Practicing by himself on the pronunciation gave him time to commit it to memory in a way he'd never been able to in class. It only took him a couple of months to figure out that he didn't have to just practice spells from charms. Now that he'd gotten his charms grade up, he decided that he could also practice his transfiguration spells and any other spell from every other class. Sure, his grades in those other classes may have remained the same, since not all classes relied on practical tests, but he sure felt good about himself knowing that all his spells were perfected.

So, there was something weird going on. How do you know? Well, it was the trip to Hogwarts. They saw the actual Headmaster very very briefly return to the school. No fanfare. No fireworks. He entered in the late evening, was gone the next morning. That same morning, there was an assembly, an announcement that they were heading back to Hogwarts AGAIN. The last time they went, that went real bad.

ReducioGrowing up as a pureblood, Rett had the opportunity to take part in many activities that were seen as poised, refined, expected. Horseback riding, polo, fencing, tennis, just to name a few. While they were muggle sports, his family had enjoyed them for many generations. He dabbled in them throughout his childhood since his family had the resources for private lessons to make him the best in whatever sport he wanted to do. He eventually took to fencing. It was as close as he could get to duelling, just without magic.
His family was honestly surprised when he took up the sport. They were expecting him to go for a horse sport since the family owned their own horses. Everett truly did enjoy the majestic beasts, he still enjoyed a horse ride down the trails by their estate every now and again but that's all he wanted to do. Take them for gentle strolls. Fencing, however, exhilarated him. It should've been an early sign that the boy would end up in Horned Serpent. He saw it as a battle of wits and strategy between two people. There was a distinct form, structured rules. A contained area. It gave him a precise structure in a sport that he desired.
Through his years of practicing he became increasingly light on his feet. Sometimes going so far as to walk more on the balls of his feet. You had to be quick, to avoid getting hit, while being quick in your own actions as well. This had become a theme in his life as well. Be quick and determined in both your attack and retreat and you just might succeed. He was already quite a nimble framed boy, so he proved to be a difficult target already. Fencing only made him that much more of an evasive force that he had now transferred into his wizarding skills.
While he did have to give it up when he started attending Ilvermorny, he found himself still practicing the sport when he could. His wand had replaced the sword, but his feet were still swift. Whether it be in his dorms, the grounds, an empty classroom. When he was his most restless he would end up continuing to practice those skills, improve on them. He wanted to be an evasive menace in whatever he did. If he was harder to hit, then he wouldn't get hurt. Physically... and maybe that would help translate into an emotional protection for him as well.

Name: Novus Esnos
Age: 14
School Year: 4
House: Horned Serpent
Race: Human
Blood Status: Half-Blood
Appearance: Novus Esnos is an average-sized boy, both in weight and height. With jet black, straight hair, pale white skin, and dark brown eyes, he doesn't really stick out from a crowd.

Personality: Usually calm, quiet, and reserved, Novus prefers spending his time inside- either to read, draw, or just rest. Though he doesn't have much of an issue with his social life, Novus doesn't go out of his way to meet new people or make more friends. It is worth noting that ever since his first two visits to Hogwarts, the boy has found himself slightly more motivated to spend time with others, though this isn't something that he has noticed himself. It is possible that just seeing what Hogwarts was like (a place where half-bloods were common and accepted) gave him some hope that he'd be able to be open about his lineage at some point without any worries.
History: As one of the relatively few half-bloods in the United States, Novus's muggle history was kept as something of a secret from the people he knew. His father, a pure-blooded wizard who had raised him alone after a messy divorce, was a kind man. Unfortunately, the stress of having a son who was not accepted by the wizarding world to such a degree took its toll on him, and with even his own family having cut ties with him, there were days when the man wouldn't leave his room or communicate with his only boy. Nonetheless, their relationship was good for the most part, and Novus knew that going to Illvermony would do nothing but make life easier for his father. That was motivation enough to endure the secrecy that he felt forced to keep.
During his first three years at Illvermony, Novus tended to stay to himself. He didn't have too much trouble finding friends and had even felt close enough to two of them to reveal his heritage. Though they were both shocked (and somewhat confused) they didn't end up caring all that much. He was a good person, and they appreciated him for that. Of course, they both swore not to tell anyone, and to the best of his knowledge, they had kept the promise.
The boy was decent enough at most of his subjects, but he wasn't exceptional at any particular form of magic. This may be due to a simple lack of motivation, as while he does find the wizarding world to be incredible in its own way, he also holds a certain distaste for it and the discomfort that it had forced him to endure. Novus often dreams about transferring to a school like Hogwarts, though he's well aware that the odds of something like that happening are slim. Outside of school, his contact with both the muggle and the wizarding world is rather slim. He tends to spend holidays and breaks at home with his father (or when that's not possible, alone), only occasionally communicating with friends from Hogwarts. The idea of contacting his mother and her family is a non-starter, both because he is encouraged not to do so by the wizards who know about them and because of his own anger at her leaving. Due to his father's family having cut contact, he also never gets to meet the wizarding side of his lineage. For the most part, it's just him and his dad in their own little bubble. Despite this, Novus isn't miserable. He has his bad days, sure, but he gets by. The boy has come to accept life as it was, and as long as he wasn't bothered, he didn't feel too bad about any of it. At least not consciously.
