Dan scowled. This year, he was having major trouble finding the snitch early. This, obviously, was a problem, and it had been frustrating him all year. No doubt his therapist would tell him to do less stressful things, but he was team captain. He had a duty to perform.

By this point, the frustration and rage were truly starting to boil. WHY. COULDNT. HE. FIND. THE. FUCKING. SNITCH?!?!
Dan's breathing would become more exaggerated and angry. He gripped the handle of his firebolt so hard his knuckles went white. He wanted to take Cass's bat and start clubbing the ENTIRETY of the Gryffindor team until they were all in the Hospital Wing intensive care. Just roll over and DIE already you damn kittens!

Dan shook the thoughts from his head. Those were definitely not healthy, and would make his therapist start hyperventilating.
His performance this year was absolutely unacceptable. He would make time to practice on the Palmer Manor grounds at bare minimum 4 times a week. This kind of bullshit was NOT happening again.

But first. This match.

Griseldis and Akari knew what they need to do next: keep targeting their biggest threat, Erin Ryan. She knew it would be a huge risk, but if they didn't risk it, then they wouldn't be another chance for them to success.

She did notice her Beater partner just got hit by another Slytherin Beater, luckily, he was able to still hold onto his own broom. Letting out a relief sigh, she could only pray for him for a very brief moment before focusing on themselves. However, they didn't react quick enough when Erin shot a powerful bludger, and it hit the poor Akari's backside. The impact was too strong, which unfortunately caused the two girls knocking off the broom together. Haley, one of their Gryffindor Chasers, tried her best to save one of them, and she could only catch Griseldis.

The notorious Slytherin Beater wasn't done yet and continued her merciless attacks, it was like she was hellbent to get rid of her. Was she really such a huge threat to them? Griseldis thought to herself. Sure, it was honorable to be recognized by other rival houses, but it could be such a pain sometimes. Once again, both girls fell victims of Erin's "One-Hit-K. O". And Grisleids helplessly watched as her second savior met her demise while being saved by a third savior, Simon.

Griseldis slowly grew impatient and felt like she had enough. This time, she didn't waste any time and quickly shot back a bludger of wrath at Erin. She was a bit disappointed to see that the Slytherin Beater got saved by their own teammates. Looks like this would be more of a battle between her and Erin to see who would fall first.

AJ could practically hear the broom snap in two as Akari went tumbling down to the ground. It was always the most horrible sight and he himself couldn't bear to look once they impacted with the ground. His hands covered his face for several moments, until he heard the call for him to enter the pitch. The first time he would be properly playing since his First Year at Hogwarts. And perhaps the last time ever. He mounted his broom and took off, ready to serve his role.

He had never liked facing off against Slytherin. They used ambition and "cunning" as an excuse for excessive aggression and needless violence. Not to mention that many amongst them had violent...and ocassionally rather childish temperaments. He just hoped he made it out of this match with both of his arms intact.

He gave a slightly nervous look to his teammates. He only hoped he wouldn't let them down. At the end of the day, as long as the Snitch was caught, nothing else really mattered.

...yay, Quidditch.

Simon cackled as he watched the blonde Beater who had hit a bat at Gris get smacked directly with a Bludger. He knew it wasn't good sportsmanship to laugh, but she did kind of deserve it.
Unfortunately, the blonde girl didn't fall and break her arm. Ah well- that meant that the Beaters had many other chances to hit her.
Simon glanced over at Gris to check if she was alright before facing the front again. He'd almost fallen off his broom when catching her due to his tiny size and still had a bit of wind knocked out of him. He worked on catching his breath for a minute before preparing his next move.

XXXIf there was anything Maggie had learned about Erin Ryan, whether it be from their interactions during practice or from the fact that this was the second time Maggie had been forced to catch the other after they had taken a tumble from their broom, it was that the Slytherin was rude. Quite pushy. Not at all appreciative of the fact that Maggie had just swooped in as a savior, thank you very much!

”Aye aye, captain,” Maggie grumbled, squaring her shoulders and sailing in the direction indicated. Operation: get Erin back to the broomstick in one piece was underway!

And, if they were lucky and Maggie didn’t murder Erin first, they shouldn’t have an issue.

While he had been hoping for another chance to impact the match, Marshal could have done with a bit less impact in the more literal sense. Mere moments would pass following his previous attempt at an attack, hazel eyes darting about the pitch in search of a bludger to utilize, before a dull thud from his blind side made his heart drop. The next thing he felt was the sensation of every modicum of breath being forced from his lungs in the span of a single instant.
With the sudden loss of oxygen needed to function, his brain faltered, abandoning all else in an effort only to remain conscious. Numb fingers loosened their grip on the broomstick as a dark cloud tainted the edges of his vision, threatening to envelope him mercilessly until nothing was left but the darkness. Only through sheer strength of will did he manage to fight it off, deadened eyes snapping back into focus when his fingertips brushed the handle of his Silver Arrow and warned that another second would see him in an unrecoverable situation.
Reclaiming his grip, it took all the physical prowess he possessed to remain astride his broom, further complicated by the way its path jerked under the stress.

Pulling his body mass back into position, the boy was further assaulted by a belated eruption of pain in his ribs, conceivably originating from the point of impact, though the source was difficult to pinpoint with the way it racked his entire core. He was quite convinced this was what it felt like to get hit by a truck, but the agony served a purpose, shocking him from the grips of unconsciousness.
Senses returning, he quickly gathered that all of it had transpired within the same second, and spotted the iron ball of doom which had ravaged his rib cage. After inflicting its deadly blow upon him, it was now veering away, and in its path...

A flash of red hair caught his eye. If his heart had fallen at the sound of an attack aimed for him, it now plummeted straight to the unforgiving ground below.
By some stroke of immeasurable luck, or the grace of a higher power, he felt his bat still firmly clasped in one hand. Driven by a jolt of grim panic, he zeroed in on the object aiming for the one person he could not see fall, instinctively knowing that he was the only thing between her and a similar beating to the one he'd already received. A lunge forward nearly unseated him once more, though he would have willingly accepted his fate if it only meant Evelynn could go untouched. Twisting his body awkwardly, one leg lifting into the air as his broom corkscrewed to the side of his bat hand, he unleashed a reckless uppercut swing. Immediately rewarded with the telltale vibrations of solid contact, he was then forced to turn his attention to the predicament his thoughtless actions had landed him in.

Doing his best to flatten his body against the broom handle, he knew his only option was to complete the barrel roll and even out his flight pattern from there. But, pitched perilously forward as he was, he very nearly over-corrected and lost his grip once and for all. Momentarily suspended with his person closer to the ground than the very thing that had taken him into the sky, he considered exactly what a reunion with the green grass below would feel like. Would he retain his faculties long enough to feel the pain, or would the impact simply be followed by... nothing?
The split-second of reflection was erased as he managed to right himself, completing a unique sort of rolling maneuver that left the nose of his broom aiming nearly the opposite direction of when he'd begun the stunt.

Drifting slowly to halt, Marshal felt the same explosion of knives within his ribs as before. His face contorted in an ugly grimace, clearly signaling his agony, despite his effort to contain a cry indicating the same.
Evidently, somebody noticed.

Disoriented from the wild roll, it took him a moment to locate Eve, who had spoken to him from nearby. Upon doing so, he offered a shaky thumbs-up, morphing his grimace into a toothy grin. He wasn't about to try calling back, given the way his lungs punished him for even attempting to regain his breath.
The gesture was enough to send Eve on her way with a few more parting words. He followed her with his gaze, only glancing away to scan for more possible threats posed to the Seeker. Perhaps, later on, the fact that he had finally returned the favor for all that she had done for him - if only in a small way - would sink in. But for now, the cold hand of panic that had gripped his heart when he'd seen the bludger aimed for her head still had a finger in place.

He hadn't even noticed that the same bludger, powered by the desperate strength behind his swing, had sent Cassandra plummeting to an early conclusion of her quidditch season.

“Hey now folks, this is supposed to be a quidditch game, not a blood bath. There are quaffles to grab you know.” But the players didn’t seem to heed the complaints of the Ilvermorny headmaster, nor should they because he was really only trying to rile them up. A bludger sent by Griseldis from the back of Simon’s broom would scream past Erin while she was riding on the back of Maggie’s broom. To them it was a lucky miss, but to team Gryffindor it was a fortunately unnecessary near-hit.

Marshal’s aim however would find its target true, and the force of the bludger taking Percival off of his broom in a single shot would deem lifeguard measures to be necessary. Koko would be there in an instant to save Percival’s day and the pair would fire back their own response. An attack on Ivy. The shot would strike without fanciful measure, and the pain would be immense for a brief moment, but Ivy was just too tough a cookie to crumble to the likes of Percoko’s onslaught. Well, that or she had the kind of thighs that could crush a watermelon.

Tyr and Lisa would see Evelynn begin her descent towards the snitch, a spiral pattern which picked up speed but obviated her path. The two would then do the only logical thing they could do. Cheat. They would send themselves careening into her path, hoping to knock her off course if only to save even a little bit of time, but to no avail. They were simply unprepared for the turn of events, or perhaps too distracted by Marshal’s good looks to commit in time.

Regardless, it came down to the wire like always.

With her trusted beater affirming his well-being and ability to continue playing, Evelynn could return the entirety of her focus back upon the game. Zipping in and out of players, she kept one eye on the path ahead, and a second watching for trouble. Her momentarily lapse was problematic. She had lost sight of the ball. Of her goal. That wouldn't do. Not when the stakes were so high. Evelynn had been expecting the snakes to strike hard and fast, but she couldn't have anticipated what they had thus far delivered.

Several of their members seemed to have upgraded equipment. She would recognize the sleek shape of a firebolt anywhere. There may never have been an instance where claim could be made to have seen one in action, but time enough had been spent at Quality Quidditch Supplies silently cooing over their stock of professional brooms to know its make. Not only that, but they had obviously invested considerable time with additional training and had adjusted their strategies in a way that made the entire match feel a bit off to the tenured seeker. There was just no shaking the feeling that if the game were to be allowed to progress for long enough to gain the quaffle goals they would need to close the gap with Ravenclaw, they wouldn't make it out at all.

A shimmer drew a snap of attention in the direction of the stands ahead. While Evelynn wasn't able to make out the distinct shape, there was nothing else that the gold colouration could be. Leaning forward on her broom, she sped frantically forward in an effort to make up lost airspace, close the gap, and catch a more definitive sight to confirm what she already knew in her heart to be true. Foot after foot, she gained ground, flesh igniting with electrified excitement. She could see it now, the tiny spherical shape darting in a chaotic pattern down and ahead of her.

Swinging wide to avoid a rogue oncoming bludger, she leaned sharply back in towards the pitch to correct her path. Slowly and steadily, she picked up speed, narrowing in on the ball and honing her trajectory. It would be obvious to anybody—player or spectator—at this point that she was hot on the trail and that the conclusion of the game could well be approaching. It never did do any good to rush these things, however. One false move and she could find herself caught of guard and taken out before fingers could close around the prize. She waited... bided her time...

The snitch cut across to the side and sped forward in a straight line. Open air. Not a stand or player in sight. It was now or never. As though performing a death drop, Evelynn flattened herself abruptly against her broom and let her shifted centre of weight tilt the nose. The drop was sudden and drastic. Wind whistled past her ears deafening her to anything around her. Goggles protected her vision from the air friction, but colours blurred past her leaving her blindered but for the snitch ahead that grew steadily in size as she accelerated in her dive, twisting and spiralling as needed to correct the path and stay on course.

Almost there. She was entirely unaware of the attempts of several opposing players to take advantage of her narrowed focus and haphazard flight. Almost. Closer. She was gaining. The grip of her hand upon the handle was so tight, she wasn't she she would be able to release enough to grab it. In her head, the pounding of her heart reverberated almost painfully. Her stomach felt like it was in her throat. She could scarcely catch a breath, air seeming to tear itself away before she could get a chance to draw it in. The snitch made a sudden shift in direction, and she felt herself slipping with the effort to correct her own path. Panic clamoured briefly in her ears with the thought of the snitch outmanoeuvring her and making its escape. Perhaps it was that which had provided her the adrenaline necessary to rally. In a desperate bid of recklessness, she let herself roll with the overbalancing. A hand released its hold. A twist of the torso, overextension of her neck, the reach of her arm...

Fingers closed on that perfectly chilled, rigged metallic surface.

As she slowed to a stop to hover where she had eventually ended up, she righted herself with some difficulty. What little strength she possessed seemed to have abandoned her now that the task had been done. Snitch in hand, she lifted it gently into the air for the referee to see. Proof of the feat. The announcement confirmed it, and went on to confirm their victory. Panting, she could barely contain her relief. She couldn't. Tears pricked at her eyes with the sudden release of.. everything. Her first game as captain and they had won. She would not be a failure in the shoes she had been forced to fill. Gryffindor might not have won the cup, but they had come second. That was respectable. She could live with that.

Hands dropped to her broom, arms trembling with the weight of emotion and fatigue. She would have loved several minutes to sit there and catch her breath, to steady herself. Instead she would force herself to fly again. To make one lap around the pitch in victory with those of her team that yet remained, soaking in the cheer of the crowd, and whatever celebratory ululations her teammates might utter. On completion of the lap, the movement and removal of those who had been knocked from their brooms would pulled her back to the moment, prompting her conclude their revelries. Drifting gradually towards the grass, she would head purposefully towards those who were still conscious.

"Assemble!" she shouted, raising a hand as a beacon upon which to close. A faint smile of utter satisfaction alit her visage. "Well fought to all of you! Second for the season! This just gives us something to aim for again next year! Now get into the locker room, get changed, and meet back in the hospital wing! Kato and Rose deserve our undying appreciation!"

In all honesty, Pax didn't take their eyes off of Evelynn as she leaned forwards, spiralling towards what Pax assumed was the snitch. As she seemed to clasp something in her hand, the announcer announced a Gryffindor victory.

"YES!" Pax cheered, pumping their fist in the air with excitement as they jumped up to their feet. "Suck it, Slytherin!"

When the team landed, Pax had to resist the urge to hug each and every one of their teammates. They swallowed down any disappointment they had from not placing first in the overall cup. Instead, they took their place just behind Evelynn as she congratulated the team.

"Congratulations, guys," they added earnestly. "You all performed exceptionally well. We faced some tough competition, and I must say I couldn't be prouder of how all of you have played. Next season will be even bigger and better, and we will prevail as the lions always do."

They waited back to let all the team head back into the changing rooms, watching as staff helped Haley and Akari up to the Hospital Wing. Just before she left, however, they caught Evelynn's sleeve. "Good job, Captain. I hope I didn't let you down by not playing."
