2021, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 2

Rose had a feeling in her bones that they were oh-so close to winning, and it made her frustrated as heck. She breathed in a deep breath. "Flipendo," she said quietly. The spell worked, hitting Samantha. She felt bad, seeing the Ravenclaw girls be subject to her spells. She wasn't sure why she did dueling if she didn't like hurting other people, though she supposed that she liked training herself to defend herself, if needed.

What was Alec even talking about? First he was ridiculing Dealla for healing herself (which was extremely annoying). Dealla called back, blowing him a kiss, which was very funny, though the smirk on Rose's face only lasted a split-second. Then he was talking about how silence was a virtue, and then- experience? And then he was talking about how they should try harder. The Ravenclaws were trying just fine. Alec's conversation was getting on her nerves a little bit. He wasn't being a good sportsman at all! She hoped the Ravenclaws carried on ignoring him. That was supposed to be the strategy to make somebody leave you alone, wasn't it?

And then Rose was on fire again. On fire! Rose gave a little gasp. How hadn't she seen that coming?

For a while Jake's eyes didn't leave Rose. Unlike last time, the flames didn't go out so quickly. She would be feeling the heat now, and maybe worse...He clutched his wand with all his might. It would be so easy to just extinguish it. He'd WORKED on that spell...he'd be fired from his job though if he did that for sure. Then what would happen when they REALLY needed him? It seemed like Rose was okay...so far...he coudln't do something like that unless it was really REALLY important. She seemed tough, but what if she DID get hurt? How could he just sit there and watch? This was the worst job...

As for the Ravenclaws, they hadn't lied. They WERE ignoring Alec. They were at fist at least, at least. Samantha didn't answer him at all. Dealla...well...she wasn't so good at ignoring. But at least she didn't say anything mean back. Could you really get so mad just cause somebody said you were sweet?

It didn't sound though like Alec was taking being ignored very well. The boy was talking about a lot of things really fast. But what was he talking about? Morality wasn't per-something, and silence was a virtue, and experience was a privy....What did it all mean?

And then, boom! Spells were flying again. Samantha had cast a tickling charm in Rose's direction. Whoa...! The silver light flashed huge from her wand, but wait! A knockback jinx jutted right into her side once more, driving her backwards just as it had moments before. Her spell once again would just miss Rose - the spell that the Ravenclaws needed so desperately. As it passed Rose by, the Gryffindor girl might notice just how lucky she was to avoid this particular tickling charm...it was very well-cast and seemed much larger than the last ones. But Samantha had been hit, and she was pushed back, in danger of losing her balance completely....Jake saw Rose's arm already in motion. It was the Gryffindor's powerful one-two-knockback attack! A second flipendo jinx, so soon after Alec's, heading for the same target, already off balance! Jake forgot about the flames for a moment, as he watched with wide eyes.

Samantha would see the spell zooming towards her. She would need to struggle to keep it together after Alec's spell. Fatigue would be setting in, after she would have just managed to keep her balance. She needed to dodge, but her energy was waning. This duel had been going on for quite a long time...

It all would happen in a split second, but she would feel an influx of energy. Strength would return to her... just in time for her to leap out of the way. Dealla's healing spell had done its job just in the nick of time. Surely Samantha might have been knocked to the ground. The question was, would she have been able to get back up?

It was clear now that the Gryffindors had endured the storm, and they were holding the momentum in this duel. The Ravenclaws were on the defensive. The Gryffindors were working as a perfect team...Jake's eyes darted back and forth....Rose was still on fire.

This duel takes place during Day 1!

A little giggle escaped the young girl's mouth when Dee blew a kiss to Alec, as she found it quite entertaining. It had been a nice touch to the comment Dee had made before. Samantha patiently waited for Alec to be done with his rambling before she got ready for the next round.

Last round she had aimed at Rose and hit the girl, hopefully, this round the same would happen. Samantha lifted her wand and aimed it at the Gryffindor. She had cast her spell perfectly, but the force of Alec's spell made her aim bad. For a moment it seemed impossible for the young girl to keep standing, the spells were taking their toll on her, but luckily Dee had her back. Samantha could feel the healing spell work and was just able to dodge the spell from Rose.

With a sad smile on her face, she looked at Dee. "Thank you." Samantha could feel it, she was tired and didn't know how long she would be able to continue this duel. She had been so sure she would win this duel, but not anymore. However, she wasn't going to give up, she would keep fighting for as long as she could.

The back and forth of the duelling was getting tiring. Not the words, he was certain he could speak a million a minute and still not run out. The duel. It was incredibly hard too tell how well they were doing, it seemed too switch from one another each time. Dealla had words for Alec again, which was nice. It was useless too stand there and have someone talk on about you without getting some of your own words in. He let his mouth go on and do the talking. He didn't care what he ended up saying, as long as it was something. “What would I be if not to give you the benefit of the doubt? You showed some promise in our last duel” Alec said, his lips would curl into a small smile as his eyes settled on Dealla. His eyes not having yet registered what he'd just seen.

“Well, at least up till when you managed too backfire a spell onto yourself.” Alec's voice was curt, to the point. He shrugged, then moved too focus on getting into position. Now that was how you- It was sudden, and at the worst of times, but the gryffindor glanced back in an instant. His mind only now taking in what he'd seen seconds earlier.

Alec's mouth hung open slightly. He stared at her, acting as if having seen her blow a kiss at him was the biggest deal in the world. It took a while for him to remember too blink. His expression shifted from one of shock and surprise, maybe slightly horrified even, then instead of speaking, he looked away. Catching himself just in time to be able to cast a Flipendo Samantha's way. His eyes would watch catching Samantha's rather powerful spell that Rose narrowly avoided, and then nothing. They were safe, they'd had a fine round for the most part. . .

Alec hadn't realized that in the resolve of the fast fasting, his eyes had ended up falling down, his head tilted down, as he looked focused, down at his shoes. He took in a breath before nodding in an affirming way at Rose. She had tried. Alec would accept that.

In a matter of minutes the way Alec decided too carry himself, switched, he tried too make himself look like he felt as if he had better things to do. It wasn't working... At least his didn't think so, he tried too fix his posture. But there was a certain avoidance, of Dealla... If her eyes were too land on him he would just roll his own, and act annoyed. There was something he could say, he didn't have time to deal with this. It was better not to think about why he wanted too pretend he had never even noticed her do such a thing at all.

Alec could figure out intent, but that wasn't the problem, it didn't matter how she-

Getting carried away. He shook his head too focus himself. Right, strategy, what next?

Rose was getting tired of this. This duel was going on a long time, longer than Rose felt it should. She had a creeping feeling it was entering its final moments, but couldn't really be sure. She didn't want to admit it to herself and jinx it, either, but she felt like she was on the winning side of this.

The redhead lifted her chin, feigning confidence. She was confident. She was assertive. She had every intention of... of kicking butt! Yeah!

But Rose just couldn't bring herself to enjoy it when Samantha got hit with Alec's Flipendo. She, too, had been aiming for Samantha, but the girl had been able to jump out of the way just in time.

The benefit of the doubt? Rose snorted quietly at hearing that, a minuscule eye roll. Alec may or may not have heard it, but both of the Ravenclaws would have seen it. Alec was hardly giving them the benefit of the doubt, though. He was jabbing at every other thing they did. If Dealla sneezed, then Alec would have found some way to make fun of her. He needed to chill out. Dueling was about sportsmanship, about casting spells at one another, not about casting insults at one another.

Dee had had some inkling, a subtle feeling that the Gryffindors were going to focus on Samantha for the moment. She'd healed herself, now it was time to help her partner. Still, she couldn't help feeling like this focus on defense meant they were fighting a losing battle. Her healing wasn't strong enough to make up for being hit by even a single spell; every spell cast was a step backwards, meant they were giving up ground.

She winced when Samantha's spell missed, tried to suppress the feeling that she would've had better aim. But if so, she truly hadn't proven it in this duel, had she? Where was her focus today?

At least watching Alec's reaction to her kiss provided a bit of satisfaction, brought a sharp grin to her face. She might be losing the duel, but in some small ways, she was still winning.

The fire was going out! Jake breathed another sigh of relief. This duel had all of his nerves frayed just watching. He was SURE somebody was going to get hurt...and even though he'd taken this job so he could make sure it didn't happen, there wasn't going to be anything that he could do.

Jake took stock of the duelists again. The Ravenclaw team still seemed tired, Rose looked just about ready to seal her victory, and Alec....Alec looked....Hm. Jake looked at Alec trying to figure out HOW he looked.

The Gryffindor boy was looking at his shoes, Jake tilted his head and regarded the boy. Just a few moments ago he'd been going on and on about things, and acting all mad. What had happened to make him look all flustered like that? Was it something Dealla had said? Something she'd done?

Jake had no idea what had gotten into him, but it was a lot better than when he was being mean before, that was for sure.

Whatever it was, maybe it had something to do with why Alec sent a blinding spell towards Dealla just seconds later. But this time, luckily for her, Dealla was able to duck out of the way. She had probably seen enough blindfolds for a lifetime at this point. But that wasn't the ONLY spell to miss its target. Samantha was able to duck out of the way of an incoming knockback jinx, and Rose was able to swiftly sidestep a tickling jinx sent her way, just in the nick of time. It all happened so fast that Jake didn't even notice the one spell that DID hit its mark - Dealla continuing to build up Samantha's strength so she could keep dueling.

The duel had been going on for so long, everybody must have been so tired. Not just their bodies but their minds too. Jake remembered how exhausted he felt when he'd been trying to get a new charm down, casting over and over and over again....til he couldn't even focus anymore. How would it feel to be doing that in a duel? Casting spell after spell after spell while dodging around, AND getting hit by spells too? It must have been exhausting. Who was going to be able to make it through that and take the victory?

Maybe they could all just decide they'd gotten too tired, call it a draw, and just go home. That's what Jake probably would have done if he wasn't a captain, but he maybe wasn't the most competitive. THESE duelists looked kind of different.
