2020, Stage 1 Group D: Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff

Now that the flames were seemingly extinguished and he didn't have to worry about flailing around in pain for much longer, Eyre got himself back onto his feet. As much as he didn't want to see what was happening, since he could feel the mucus from the slugs on the front of his robes and the pain radiating from his leg, he knew that he'd have to get the blindfold off eventually. Despite his dazed stance, he held his wand high as he brought his hand to the back of his head where the blindfold was tied in place.

Round Nine

Finally, it was clear. Mars dropped the sleeve from their nose, waving away the last tendrils of smoke in the air. Now they could see properly. And from the looks of it...

Eyre was in the middle of yanking the blindfold off of his face, good timing for the end of the smoke. They looked over to the Hufflepuffs. The fizzle of Logan's spell was barely auditable, but maybe she'd had a second of regret aiming for Rose's pretty face because it started at her wand and stayed there. Lucia on the other hand, the girl was on a roll.

The blue beam of light that shot out of her wand was unusually bright, unusually straight as it fired at Rose. Mars' eyes widened as they traced it—if that hit, it was going to hurt. Really bad. Rose seemed ready for it though, wand tucked away and eyes trained on the beam. Her movements were quick as she went to evade the spell and Mars thought she was going to make for just a second—it hit.

The poor Gryffindor nearly flew through the air, probably blacking out in midair. Mars scrambled to clutch at their wand, nerves alight. "Hold!" they called, hurrying over to her side. A few moments later and she'd been taken off the pitch. They knew she'd be alright; duelling wasn't designed to cause permanent damage. The school probably wouldn't stay open if it were.

They walked back to their place, gaze shifting over to Eyre. They hoped, even if he should lose, he'd try and make Rose proud.

Spectator Thread: Day 1, Groups D-F

As soon as Eyre got the blindfold off, he saw Rose laying on the ground, unconscious from the blow of a savage Flipendo. He could feel his skin turning cold, starting to bound towards her before stopping himself once Mars reached her side. His lips trembled, and he could feel tears starting to prickle his already bleary eyes.

She's going to be fine... He reassured himself, his hands clenching into fists when he glanced back at the two girls on the other team that were responsible for Rose's elimination. His eyes narrowed at them, nauseously trying to hold back the slugs that were making their way up his throat. He was going to fight tooth and nail until he couldn't bear his injuries anymore... Although the situation was dire, he raised his wand and lashed out at them passionately. There was nothing left to lose.

Rose didn't see it coming. The blue flash of the Knockback Jinx spiraled at her, too fast for her liking. She tried to dodge, but it hit her right in the chest anyway. Rose flew back in the air, the impact overwhelming.

'I'm sorry, Eyre-' she thought as she flew through the air, her vision fading to black before she hit the ground.

Ouch.

Eyre seemed doomed.

Logan's spell had failed, but she didn't get angry about it as she watched Rose fly back from Lucia's flipendo. She grimaced, about to take a step towards the girl, but instead thought better of it. Glancing over at Eyre, she could tell that the boy was not happy and attempted to give the boy a reassuring smile. His girlfriend was going to be fine, but she wasn't quite sure if they were going to be okay at the look the Gryffindor boy was giving the Hufflepuff girls.

Round Ten

A Win for Hufflepuff!

The end of the duel was a flurry of motion. In a last-ditch effort, one that Mars themselves would probably go applaud Eyre for once this was all over, the Gryffindor aimed his Flipendo at Rose's attacker, Lucia. Even through his cold, the boy managed to cast quite a powerful spell, and it arced toward the Hufflepuff with nearly perfect accuracy. Only... Lucia, who'd obviously woke up on the right side of the bed today, just barely managed to duck out of the way.

In all honesty, there was nothing more they could say as both Lucia and Logan's spells, Flipendo and Incendio respectively, hit dead on. If anything, the Hufflepuffs had proven to be a deadly force, extremely skilled in their duelling abilities, and the Gryffindors had put enough heart into it to last a lifetime. Time seemed to slow as Eyre fell backward, the light of the two spells fizzling out on his chest. They hoped— they knew Rose would be proud he'd gone out this way. Mars hoped he was proud as well.

Raising their wand, Mars called, "Stop!" They waited for the first aid team to rush Eyre off the pitch before turning to face the crowd and the Hufflepuffs.

"Well done!" they grinned, "Hufflepuff has taken the match. Congrats on your very first duelling win." Indicating that the girls were free to leave, as it seemed they'd been wanting to do for a while, Mars mused over the fact that this experience would probably help them in the future. The future... the energy of the duel had seeped into their bones. This was the first of many and they couldn't wait for more. With that, they hopped off the piste, twirling their wand as they went.
