Between heavy breaths, Wyatt just had to make a clever remark at Alec’s stupidity.
“So… was I supposed to start… on three? Or... on go?”

Alec started laughing, like the maniac he was. Wyatt had a feeling the blasted Gryffindor wasn’t laughing at something he had said. Psychopaths can do that. Laugh at something they think of without saying it, or going through with whatever they were thinking of, to be specific. Wyatt felt sick of Alec already. Still, for some reason, Wyatt couldn’t take his eyes off of the Lion.

The streetlights shone on that Gryffindor like spotlights, and he seemed to glow as it bounced off his skin. In a weird majestic way. It looked like something someone would paint- or sketch. A boy running down a familiar-looking street. Light bouncing off him, almost to symbolize the good in the gloomy setting of the night (being a world of darkness) as he chases, freely, after nothing. Alec never looked more in his element. Wyatt just probably looked stupid.

Alec stopped in the middle of the “race.” His fit of laughter was what slowed him down. Wyatt couldn’t say he didn’t see that coming. The bloody Lion was wasting his breath by focusing on whatever thought was making him laugh, but Wyatt couldn’t really call him stupid for that. Just seconds ago he was wasting his breath to make fun of the boy. Of course, and not surprisingly, Wyatt Starkey had no regrets. Ever, really.

In spite of himself, he slowed to a halt, and took this opportunity to catch his breath. He shouldn’t have, really. He was in the lead and he could’ve gotten water back at Alec’s house, but it didn’t seem like that Lion was going to start running soon, so he was okay with that. That made him think of that old story, about the tortoise and the hare. The hare (which is just a fancy name for a rabbit) was so fast, that in the middle of the race, he took a nap because the tortoise was barely tiptoeing.

When the rabbit woke up, the tortoise had won the race. Wyatt began walking again, not wanting to be the bloody rabbit, and lose. If Alec was running again, he’d pick up his pace. “Almost got me, tortoise,” he mumbled to himself. Now, who’s the maniac, he thought... like a bloody maniac...

Now focus. Since you're going to come in last, you need a grand entrance or something.. What would be cool? Alec slowed his pace more as he tried to think. Alec HAted losing. But it wasn't really losing if you didn't want to win. Especially if you were going to make a grand entrance at the end. Now if it was a race Alec was actually taking seriously thinking he could win, he would've been pretty upset if he lost. He wouldn't exactly lash out.. More like quietly drown is his sorrow and self pity. Not like that was any better, of course.
Now back to the grand entrance thing. How could Alec make a grand entrance..? If he used magic sparks or anything like that, he'd been in trouble. A cartwheel and say 'I've lost give me your best dare' then look him in the eyes? Okay nope nope nope nope that one's off. That one is off the list right away. Next one.. Just walk normally and once you get up there grin and say, 'I lost, yay! I knew I was probably going to lose but I couldn't think of anything better and I wanted to make an entrance but this is all I had soo'? Okay nope, not that either.
Act like the elderly? Like you have an aching back and everything and then get those voices mean old people use when they yell 'get off my lawn!' and say 'I lostttttttttttttt!!t'? Not that one either. Wow you really need new ideas. Or you could do the ever loved commentator one.. Now that one's always fun. Super fun. Alec quickened his pace slightly. It'd go faster if he did that. And then Alec could do his commentator voice thing as his grand entrance losing thing. Losing with grace. Or fun.. Now that was something to see. The type of people who could actually find something cheery about losing something they took seriously and worked hard for. It was respectable. Now if you could find a way to make a joke out of it and have fun with it. You get the highest honors. It's always hard to make a good joke out of something when you're upset.
After this odd thought segment, Alec finally paid attention again. And well, wouldn't you know Wyatt was there. Welp, seems as if it was time for that stupidly fun entrance to loserville. Alec quickens up his pace to be sorta running. "He runs! He and he knows he's lost but still thinks this is super funny!" Alec says pausing to catch his breath before continuing. "He does that weird slide move muggles do in that weird muggle game!" Alec says doing a baseball slide on the driveway his knees sliding against the pavement grimacing Alec then whispers. "Ow.." Then going back to his weird commentating entrance and grin back on his face. "And he loses!!" Alec announces grinning as he stood up his jeans may or have not have not been ripped slightly at the knees and his knees may or may not have had a few scratches on them that may or may not be bleeding. Alec looked down at his knees before looking back up at Wyatt. "Totally worth it" He said.

"Totally worth it."

“Good job,” Wyatt congratulated, rolling his eyes while catching his breath. The eye-roll waited for no man’s breath. He didn’t care in the slightest for Alec’s ruined jeans. It wasn’t his problem nor his job to care, which sort of made him think. A rich kid like Alec would probably grow to be one of those big-time businessmen, and Wyatt would either grow up to be an evil genius or a magical janitor for Alec’s headquarters. The thought made him shudder. He couldn’t imagine working for Alec J. Mason.

Wyatt had his dare in mind since he’d had tea with Jackie just that morning. Alec took his family for granted whether he knew it or not. Not that his family was warm and loving, but maybe they weren’t cold for no reason. Alec probably ignored them or mouthed off and was rude all day. All Wyatt wanted was something like Alec’s family. A cold, yet present cluster of people who are always in your corner, because you all share the same blood. He never had that.

“I dare you to make breakfast for your family tomorrow morning.” He said, his face completely still and serious. “Nothing like cereal or chips in a bowl. A real meal. Bacon and eggs, pancakes, that sort of thing. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it.” Not to brag, but over time, Wyatt became a really good cook. After making your own breakfast and dinners for seven years, you get good. His mother was always working and his father was at pubs or asleep or drunk or… well “busy”. Wyatt did a lot of things on his own. He’d always had.

He rubbed the back of his neck and toyed with the chain of the necklace his mother had given him after she passed. It was just a chain with a charm of the deathly hallows symbol on it. She’d found it in the forbidden forest on her birthday, and had been wearing it around her neck since that. When she died he assumed she would be buried wearing it, but apparently she’d wanted her son to have it. He was thankful, but it felt out of place around his neck. He didn't know where else to put it though, so it stayed there against his chest, just over his heart.

Cooking as a dare.. Normally this would be a stupid dare. But Alec didn't exactly have luck in the kitchen. In fact, he wasn't supposed to be using the oven or the stove anymore after almost burning down the whole kitchen while making cookies. But Wyatt didn't need to know that. Even if there was the slight chance the kitchen might not end up being here tomorrow. Alec could not cook for the life of him. And this was such a bad idea, and this was Wyatt's secretly evil plan all along. Alec knew it Wyatt was planning t-
"I can help if you want" Wyatt offered. Oh.. Well, now Alec felt a bit bad. A bit of an arse move. Alec gave an awkward laugh, rubbing the back of his head. "Yeah, um.. I might need it." Alec said, giving Wyatt a small smile. " Thanks.." He said. Then decided to get back more to topic. "So a fry-up, basically? Also, what'd you think of my er.. entrance?" Alec asked. The usual for a 'real' breakfast or a 'fry-up' was usually bacon, sausages, eggs, black pudding, baked beans, tomatoes and mushrooms, toast and some sort of tea.. Or at least that's what it was in Alec's mind. Alec's favorites were the bacon, tomatoes and mushrooms.
Now back to the whole 'what did you think of my entrance?' thing. Alec may or may not have been trying to seem cool in front of Wyatt.. Uhh yeah, just ignore that. I mean who says you can't try to make your enemy think your cool? You can still be enemies and try to make your enemy think that your cool, right? right..? There was seriously no answer for this one..

"Also, what'd you think of my er… entrance?"

“I can’t tell if it was brave to just slide in like that, or stupid. But those are synonyms, aren’t they?” Alec was both brave and stupid in Wyatt’s eyes, but he very much believed the words to be synonyms, so if Alec was one, he was the other as well. To himself, Wyatt was neither stupid nor brave. Sometimes he went out of his way to do things that would be seen as brave (which should be seen as stupid), but he always did it for himself. In some way, his actions would have helped him get what he wanted.

What Wyatt just barely picked up on was Alec’s sincerity. For some ungodly reason, he sounded as if he cared about what Wyatt thought of him. Wyatt wasn’t that much of a feeler, but he could pick up on other people’s feelings quite easily. He could tell what mood a person was in by simply looking in their eyes, or skimming their facial expression. People were usually so expressive, he never had to look any deeper than the surface. This “talent” was key to his survival in his own home when his father still lived there. If his dad walked into a room angry, Wyatt would know, and he’d at accordingly.

“And we don’t have to do anything too fancy.” Then, he thought about what he said for a second. Alec’s family was as fancy as it gets. Sure, they weren’t living in a huge manor like most pure-blood snobs, but it was clear that if they wanted to, they would’ve. Maybe he was thinking to much of that Lion, but really, Wyatt envied Alec most of all. He was probably just as jealous of the Gryffindor as Perseus was. That reminded him. The Slytherin looked around, looking for that snake, but he didn’t see him anywhere, which made him slightly worried. He masked it well, though, as he always does.

“Well, I guess we do… your family seems pretty high maintenance,” said the Snake, thoughtfully.
With a grin, he added. “No offense.”

If there was one thing Alec had to learn it was a million more. Wyatt would never actually go out of his way to say if he was impressed by something if he could avoid it that and he just liked to play on words. A lot. Although he had complimented one of Alec's sketches.. Alec could remember everything word for word. Although there were quite a few things he could remember vividly word for word. Like the whole howler after Alec had been sorted into Gryffindor. Or the day he met Leonard and Clifton and they came up with 3rorrCOuldN0tCoMPu13. Or that whole race with Percival Rainwood that led to Alec's shoes being thrown into the lake. They were soaked for a week. That kind of thing is hard to forget.
“And we don’t have to do anything too fancy.” Wyatt said. Yes, because a fry up was very fancy. Totally not the type of thing you make when you invite people over for brunch or someone(*cough cough* Alec's mom *cough*) decides she's going to make her 'famous' Sunday breakfast. Usually only happens once a month, though. Not that Alec's complaining. “Well, I guess we do… your family seems pretty high maintenance,” Alec had to stifle a laugh after hearing Wyatt say this, trying to keep a serious face. Oh, so you've only figured that out now? He must've noticed or something though because then after this came a grin from Snake-boy and him saying “No offense.”.
"None taken" Alec said. "Although I do have a question. Out of alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the millions of dares you could pick why this one?" Alec asked. He truly was curious. Who wouldn't be? Alec's enemy just dared Alec to make breakfast for his family. Not to do something crazy that might get Alec into trouble with his parents. Which honestly was something Alec was expecting with the dare. Yet this dare actually seemed for the most part.. Harmless.

"None taken. Although I do have a question. Out of all the millions of dares," Alec really stretched out that ‘all.’ He’d gone long enough without a touch of the dramatic. Wyatt was grateful that the boy was able to show some restraint, but he knew it couldn’t last long. The Lion continued with, "why this one?" That was a little confusing even for Wyatt himself. The way it was the first dare in his head forced him to think about his real motive, but he had an answer immediately.

“I don’t think your family appreciates you,” he began. “If you go out of your way to try, or even if you just look like you’re trying, they might think higher of you. It may even brighten their day a little bit.” Sure, this way of thinking got him nowhere with his father, but that was a wildly different case. “And if their opinion of you doesn’t change… who cares. Well, I’m sure you do, but you better stop unless you want more hurt.” The snake didn’t even pick up how emo he’d just sounded.

What he did pick up on, though, was how much he sounded like he cared. He did, but only a little bit, and didn’t want to give Alec the impression that this stuff really mattered to him. “If after breakfast they decide that they still hate you, it’s no longer my business.” He still said it with a slightly warm tone. Even though (he told himself) he didn’t care, he didn’t want to switch to the cold snake-boy Alec knew, it wouldn’t fit the mood, would it!? Right, it wouldn’t. Wyatt just wanted to fit the mood…

So Wyatt was meddling in Alec's life.. And It was harmless. In fact it was actually kind of nice. Although Alec's father had work to get to, so he probably wasn't going to see it. They'd been calling him in earlier and earlier for work recently. Thinking about it even while the idea was nice, it was probably going to get shoved to the side as the 'busy' morning routine started. Although Alec was sure Jackie would love it. She loved everything. It was hard to find something she hated. Alec even tried veggies, an enemy to all. And yet she loved them.
It was like an addiction, really. She couldn't just stop loving and liking things. She'd even grown fond of Wyatt pretty quickly. Which Alec had to admit he'd felt a bit hurt about. Being woken up early in the morning forced into one of her tea parties or into helping her pour a bowl of cereal as ridiculous as it sounded. It made him feel special. Because she went to him with these things. Never was it anybody else.. Till now, of course.
“If after breakfast they decide that they still hate you, it’s no longer my business.” Wyatt said. Alec had to keep himself from rolling his eyes. Yes his parents or well family in general weren't fond of him but they didn't hate him. It was more or less they just pretended he didn't exist.. A lot of the time. Alec wasn't sure if it was on purpose or just that they forgot. And he didn't want to know the answer to it either.
"How are we getting back in?" Wyatt asked. "Well, there's a door right there. It's still unlocked." Alec said pointing to the front door of the house but then cast a sort of side glance towards the tree in front of their house. "Of course there are much less boring options too" Alec said not sure it Wyatt had got what Alec was implying. I mean, it should've been obvious with the side glance over to the tree that was next to Alec's room. That they could use to climb into Alec's window with. Alec of course always left his window unlocked. So it was just a game of chance with Mr... Wait, what was his last name again?

"Of course there are much less boring options too."

It took a second to understand what Alec was implying. The Gryffindor could have been a lot clearer about whatever strange and stupid idea he was thinking up, that was for sure. But a quick glance to the side and you would see a tree, that ended near what Wyatt assumed to be Alec’s window. It took Wyatt a much shorter time to make up his mind about whether he wanted to do that or not. Because he had a brain, he went with the logical option that any sane human being would go with.

“I’m not breaking my arm from falling from a tree all just to get to your bedroom through a little window if that’s what you’re implying, Mason.” He strode up the stairs, over to the front door, like a normal person. He crouched down to avoid the windows as he climbed the wooden stairs. The snake was sure everyone in the house was asleep but he wasn’t known for taking chances, hence going up the stairs and not shimmying up a tree. Anything to survive.

He wished the Masons hadn’t put curtains on the front door window, it was impossible to see through, but he didn’t see any light behind the curtains, that was enough lifelessness as he needed to sbtruapvied opening the door. Thankfully the house was as they left it, and no one else was in sight. Wyatt moved his leg to place it on the first step- OH RIGHT. That one creaks, he remembered. He raised his leg higher and skipped the first step completely. He wasn’t going to get into trouble thanks to a step. Not a chance in hell.

He quietly walked the rest of the way up the stairs. He didn’t check once to see if Alec stayed behind.

Boring. The branches were just enough in a so so area that it was easy to climb. Of course there was always the factor the one of Alec's older neighbors might notice. They had quite the habit of spying on things that weren't at all their business. Then again, it's not like they have much to do, anyway. Also another question.. When do they sleep? They are always up spying when do they get the time to sleep? It's like they can live without it. Alec could stay up like he was doing now. But there was always a consequence in the end later for doing. Mainly sleeping in really late.
Now what were the downsides of climbing a tree up to his bedroom window again? Possibly falling off. While seems if that one was only a minor detail. Here goes nothing. Alec took a deep breath. Walking over to the tree. It'd been a while since he'd actually done this so it was going to be hard to remembe-Oh, muscle memory.. Heh right forgot about that. Pulling himself up onto the first branch, Alec let out a sigh or relief as he clung to it. Yeah, it really felt like it was just him doing this all over again. Something that used to be a weekly occurrence for Alec turned into something he hadn't done for months.
It was strange. The heightened senses, the night breeze, the moon. As if he'd gone on his little outing alone. It felt different when you went with someone else. But now with Wyatt inside, Alec could just focus on everything else. He climbed up to the second branch holding on the core of the tree for balance with one hand, Alec stood up. And grinned. "The king of the tree" Alec announced before frowning. Nope that wasn't right. It didn't fit. "The monkey tree. With Alec as your main host and tour guide of this wonderful tree." Alec said. And the grin was back. He could see it now. All dressed up in a suit with monkeys all around him and a microphone in hand as he spoke touring the tree. "And this is a lovely area. One where the monkeys prefer to sit and lounge" Alec said as he continued his little 'monkey tree tour'
By the time Alec had finished up with his whole imaginary role as a host to the monkey tree tour. It was over twenty minutes later. Stupid imagination, always getting Alec into situations like this. At least Alec was close to the window now. Pulling himself up another branch then pulling up the window and pulling himself up into the window sill, he sat there a moment before fully going into the room and closing the window. Hopefully the scene he'd made wasn't noticed by any of the elderly neighbors or Wyatt. "You didn't see that right..?" Alec asked. Alec asked this before realizing that Wyatt was going to know now for sure even if he hadn't known earlier because he'd asked this.
