Looking back at the color spell chat I saw- Transfiguration, Second Year, Third Lesson... you'll learn multicorfors, crinus muto, and colovaria. All of them color changing spells.
Multicorfors is the Clothing color changing spell
Crinus Muto is the hair color changing spell (tho I use multicorfors a lot so I confuse myself sometimes)
Colovaria is- the general color changing spell

You can't.
Not as a first year.
There are 3 color-changing spells students can learn as a second year.
As a first year there are no color-changing spells.
You don't have to do the Transfiguration homework to get the 3 color-changing spells.But, I don't take Transfiguration
At the end of the second year, before you become a third year, you can get all the 2nd years spells for free, automatically without having to do anything on your part.
If you want them sooner than your 3rd year, you have to do Transfiguration homework to obtain.
The only way to get them sooner than 3rd year automatically is by doing the Transfig. homework.
