I find it hard to write replies because I have to stick to Mat's personality, and because I'm not very good at describing thoughts. I'm way more at ease when letting the character emerge from actions, but it's not alway possible in RPs since you don't know what the other person is doing.

This is real! I know there are loads of ways to work through these blocks though. I've found that one really good way to get better at describing thoughts is to write solos and letters. I write solos to explore Colin's thought processes and emotional reasoning.

I've also found it much easier to let Colin shine through actions. And I'm sure that with some practice and just chugging through, you'll fine it easier and easier to get in tune with Mat's thoughts too!

As for not knowing what the other characters are doing, the best thing to do is to plan and plot with your RP partners! It took me a while to learn this too! Hio is, after all, a collaborative writing place!
