If it's an RP, you can determine if it's successful, though you can also discuss it with your RP Partner. It's only in official sporting events, or moderated events where the rolls are always done to determine if actions succeed or not.
Ok! Thank you. If I wish to though, can i do the roll?
Of course, it's up to you how you want to handle it.
Ok. Thank you!

Me again!

Does someone know, if you can stay back a year? So if, for example, my INPC is made right before summer, and doesn't have time to RP their first year, then can I request admins to not graduate that character?

Hi Julia! Yes you can! The only rule is that your inpc must be in the lower or some year as your pc

Hi Julia,
You can obviously do that, but, you can also let your iNPC Graduate and backdate threads to their first year, totally cool to do that as well.

FAQ — Questions
I have a rather specific question. I have taken a deep dive into lore specific to this site. The information on races, school uniforms and all other topics is something I find intriguing. What I have not been able to find is something specifically related to time relevant etiquette and expected behavior outside of the IC rules. I find this a bit strange, though I might just be overthinking it. Is there such a topic in existence, and where might I find it?

If OOC rules are what you're looking for, they can be found here! This covers general roleplay and social etiquette, site rating, and touches a bit on time etiquette among other things. We also have a post that elaborates on what is accepted within our site rating, if that is also of interest to you.

Thank you for the links. The first one was close, but not quite what I was looking for. I was thinking more practical in the sense that when my student character encounters a Professor, how is he expected to greet them?
Social etiquette OOC I get normally. Be respectful and you will come far. What I am finding challenging is IC. We are based all around the world so standards differ, and we are partially portraying a culture that is to me familiar, but not my own. This site also operates in modern time, as opposed to the books. I might be overthinking it, but I enjoy focusing on details :)

This is an interesting area of enquiry!

I'm not aware of any specific lore on IC interactional etiquette. I would say you're safe doing what you read in the books and see in the movies. E.g., if your character meets Lear in the corridor, it would be appropriate to say "Good morning Headmaster!" before scampering away!

Similarly, professors and staff would normally be addressed with their titles Professor, Nurse, etc. Heads of Houses don't really have a specific title, so most of us would use Professor as well.

Rigel always addresses prefects as Prefect, and students he doesn't know as Mr Vidler, etc. Students he's known for a while or with whom he may have worked closely (none IC yet), might be treated to a more informal system of etiquette.

Colin, my student character, does as well, because he is a model student and well known to never cause any trouble whatsoever! :sweatingbullets: :sweatingbullets:

I've seen foreign raised students use their typical honorifics, which I think is fine to do.

Peer to peer etiquette is different. Colin, if he knew Max, would just call him "Max". Until then, if he meets Colin in the corridors, he can likely expect an exuberant "Oi! Wotcha Gryffindorque!!" said with a cheerful smile and perhaps a ruffle of the hair.

Be thankful if he and his brother Liam don't decide that Max would make a perfect target for a round of Hallway Hurling!

Outside of these specific contexts, I would tend to default to "whatever the custom is inside of a British Public School", which seems to be what Hogwarts is modelled on.

(In the UK, these aren't state schools like American public schools, but rather are posher private schools.)

What have I gotten myself into?
