Vale expected, and planned to be superior amongst her peers. She memorized potions since her first year, and never needed her notes to be anymore than excellent. It was all effortless, but with effortless, boredom was assured. Everything had to be careful. There was no risk in the things she did. Yet when she was at home, she watched her father risk everything just to create small potion bottles to sell. One wrong drop, one simple mistake, and the entire concoction could be your very last.

Vale asked her father to finally work on stronger potions with him. Instead of his typical denial, he agreed.

They worked together on poisons and potions that were costly. When Vale did just enough practice that satisfied her father, did he finally open up the family's ancient library to her. She was never allowed inside. It had books and scrolls that dated even the pre-colonial times of Africa. Swahili covered most texts, but she was sure she even saw one written in hieroglyphs.

She dug herself back into the tomes. Even potions and poisons created by the family were held in secret here. Yet they've never see the light of day. Perhaps they were for family emergencies? Regardless, Vale will surely test them and re-create them out of curiosity in the future.

The day Vale returned to school, she noticed a further key difference between her and her peers. Well, there was always something different about her, but academically, she showed improvement. She did excellently in her potion studies, and was permitted by the Head Librarian to pull out selected books to accommodate her own self-study.

Since then, Vale began to help out her father more in his work. Whenever she returns home, she will be destined to work with her father to complete requests and ship out potions to well-known customers of the Ashwood family. After her fifty potion shipment, did her father sit down to talk to her, asking her what dreams she aspired to, and if inheriting the family business was something she planned for herself. She'd said yes. Isn't it a necessary component to being an Ashwood? Becoming a potioneer? Either that or becoming an infamous mass criminal. He only made a smile to her. He admitted leaving home one day, refusing to believe that this is the life he was going to have. He explored the world, looking to find purpose elsewhere. He'd only return with Vale's mother and settle back into a life he wanted to escape at first.

Even at her age, Vale couldn't register the idea of simply not wanting to become a potioneer. It never even clicked in her mind as to why she was to inherit the family business rather than her own older brother. Maybe he was still looking to see if his purpose was outside the family home, just like their father did.

Maybe Vale will do the same thing herself. Besides, what good is becoming a worldwide menace to society if society does not know you're a menace?

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Nonverbal Magic
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Reducio
Casting spells could be hard for anyone, even after spending years perfecting it. Being in her final years of schooling, Logan had gotten pretty good at spell casting and thought maybe it was time she learned something else to go along with it. Who wanted to cast spells normally anyway?

The Scottish girl had been practicing with the help of family and friends for quite a while, trying to find the right way to do it while remembering everything she had learned about the spells previously. She had started out with easy spells, Lumos being her starting spell. First she started out saying the spell as normal, clearly calling out the incantation and doing the wand movement to make sure she was doing everything correctly. The brunette had to have a strong foundation if she was going to move up from there.

After practicing the spells as normal, she moved on to attempting the spells nonverbally. It was difficult and she made sure she started out with the non-dangerous spells before anything else. She did not want to accidentally blow up anything while practicing. Many mistakes were made as she practiced and quite a few spells were failed completely, a bedsheet catching fire at one point.

Logan did not give up though, it was fun to attempt something different and nonverbal magic could be useful if she were ever in a situation she was unable to speak, she just had to make sure she did not fail at casting while in that situation. The Hufflepuff had been learning and attempting for months to get this skill right, even just the littlest. She had managed to get the first and second year spells rather well, occasionally messing up but nothing too major. She had to continue trying harder and really focusing with the older spells, having difficulty and getting distracted more often. Logan hoped she was never going to have to use this in a fight, because the chances of her messing up were higher than those of her succeeding, but at least she was trying. She would never have made it this far if she had never tried in the first place.

Glancing around the room gently, she held out her wand and did the wand movement for the spell Lumos. In her mind, she thought about the spell as she did the wand movement, having it memorized after years of practice, and a grin formed on her face as the end of her wand lit up bright. She had managed to cast Lumos successfully and quickly was successful at Nox as well. Sure, there were going to be times of failure, but she was trying and that is all that mattered.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Corporeal Patronus Messenger
(Fifth Year Ability)
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
(Words: 798)

Reducio
The conjuration of a Patronus is considered by the wider community to be amongst the highest of difficult spells to perform, demanding at one hand intense skill yet allowing very little room for negative memory. For Argento, the process was not one of a swift triumph but one of struggle, doggedness, and painful self-discovery. The memory of the very first day that he created his corporeal Patronus mark of glory could be remembered with pride for magical accomplishment but also for a moment of transformation on a slightly personal level. As much as it was rare, the same Patronus that started as defense against despair could somehow move into a very strange realm of becoming a messenger, something hardly any other witch or wizard would do.

Argento had always found the idea of the Patronus Charm captivating. Back in his fifth year, Dementors were brought in as a precautionary measure against the return of dark forces, so he knew the importance of mastering it. His earliest attempts produced little more than very weak silvery wisps that vanished almost as soon as they appeared. Every failure, it seemed, would jeer at him, yet he refused to be stopped. For weeks in the dim corners of the castle grounds, he conjured arcane imagery, racking his brain to find the best memory to conjure forth his magic: a memory of his earliest comprehension of love and protection from his childhood. That memory, bright with warmth and certainty, was a spark that no darkness could ever extinguish.

This night that saw Argento conjure his Patronus was like no other. Feeling a surge of determination coursing through him, Argento raised his wand high as he thrust his cherished memory at the source of his despair. Instead of vapor, a radiant and colossal figure sprang from the tip of his wand. An arctic wolf, shining with a silvery glow, materialized before him. The creature's piercing gaze seemed to carry with it Argento's strength, loyalty, and resilience. It gave a soft paw forward as it circled him protectively and then gave a howl so clear that it sent chills down his spine. For the first time, Argento understood what it truly meant to hold a fragment of his very soul in tangible form. The wolf was more than a Protector; it was himself, distilled into pure, incorruptible magic.

In the following weeks, Argento grew stronger in the conjure and, above all, in wielding the Patronus with accuracy. A new possibility revealed itself during this time. One evening, the Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor gave an excellent demonstration of the rarely witnessed Patronus messenger: the Patronus must be trusted absolutely in the charm and controlled with perfection. Argento never ever lost sight of the idea that the very light of his Patronus could bear his words that could be bridged across distance to him with love and loyalty. This concept stood for communication that could not be adversely affected or corrupted by all the darkness of the world.

Seeing the new horizon, Argento steered toward that next goal with everything he had. At first, the wolf would not obey and used to disappear before conveying the message. But slowly, with each trial and mistake, he learned to channel not only memory but also intent. He understood that for the Patronus to act as a messenger, trust and clarity must be imparted on it, as his thoughts needed to be as powerful as the magic itself. Weeks of painstaking effort culminated in some late-night stormy hours during which, from the pool of light emitted from Argento's wand, he whispered his message of reassurance to the corporeal apparition of a wolf as it streaked through the castle like a meteor. Moments afterward, his friend suddenly appeared at his side, eyes wide with amazement, repeating the words that Argento had sent to him.

From that night onward, from within Argento, a rare power had been born. Could this Patronus be more than for defense? Could it serve as a voice, a means of reaching out to loved ones in the darkest hours? The arctic wolf, fast and wild, carried his magic and with it a small part of his very soul to other beings. It is a symbol of hope, loyalty, and belief in the ability to bring light through shadow.

For Argento, it was much more than an academic victory to have mastered the Corporeal Patronus Messenger. It reminded him of his own inner strength and the bonds that connected him to others. He had thought never to reach others, but now he strode with the confidence that his light could go where fear never could. His wolf was far beyond a mere Patronus; it was a legacy of resilience—a messenger of light in the shadow-laden world.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Fearless

Fearless - That's what she was. Harriet was not easily frightened. Where most kids are usually scared of the dark, spiders, and monsters, Harriet handled that with no fear. When she was younger, she would pick up snakes in their neighborhood with her bare hands and keep them as pets. Harriet was often doing that as she had a fondness for animals because she barely had friends. The first time she did that, she brought a water snake from a nearby pond and brought it back home. Her parents freaked out and told her to throw it away, but she wouldn't do it. She begged them, but they relented. Soon after, her parents gave up as she kept begging for days, and she finally got to keep it. Her first ever snake was named Sabrina, after her favorite pop artist. From then on, she would venture out into the neighborhood and bring back animals.

Being a tattletale also comes with consequences, where most kids would go and bully her after she told them off. It was after school, and Harriet was walking home when three boys came up to her and pushed her to the ground. Harriet always kept her calm, and she battled each bully with her words, not actions , even thought her knee got scraped. Her nickname at school was the Gusty Heart, also known for being brave and never afraid of any challenges that came her way.

Harriet had a nice and cute face, and people would judge her as a kind and caring little girl, but she was nothing like that. Yes, she was kind and caring, but she also had a different side to herself. She played rough sports such as soccer and netball, and hated wearing dresses. No one could get in her way. Harriet always wondered how she grew up to be such a fearless and rough character, as her father was nothing like that. Leon always preferred to stay inside doing puzzles and reading books. Her mother, on the other hand, Harriet didn't know much about her character, so she also thought that it came from her. When Harriet got a letter to go to Hogwarts, she was excited as it was a new place to redeem herself. She thought about making new friends and joining loads of sports. Her father was worried whether she was going to be okay at Hogwarts without his guidance. He knew that she wasn't the brightest, but he soon accepted it, knowing that she would be capable on her own, as she was fearless.

𝖂ho says one is not capable of perfection?

Ever since Aurelia Valentine was a wee child, she was already obsessed with the very concept of perfection. She found satisfaction in everything she deemed as perfect - and frowned upon something she deemed flawed. She is remarkably careful in everything she does or performs in order to avoid foreseeable mistakes. This peculiar Hufflepuff will not be caught tolerating even the tiniest mistakes possible; mistakes that are pointedly avoidable.

…Who can blame her? It is not wrong to refuse something one affirmed as substandard, is it?

Well, not until it becomes compulsive, that is.

The young Hufflepuff witch finds herself obsessing over things - even the smallest things possible in both Muggle and Wizarding World. Of course, there is nothing wrong about aiming for excellence in terms of the academic department.

For example, checking her parchment over and over, searching for mistakes  until her eyes are bloodshot from the string of words. She was like a hawk searching for prey, looming over her essay assignments like she was on air. The thought that no one actually will care if her g's looked particularly like y's from far away never ever occurred in her mind.

The girl took any feedback as an offense.
???
She had a streak of arguing with her professors about her score results in certain homeworks, seatworks, and examinations. She is famously known for refusing to accept anything short of A+ or O. They had this presentiment of her choosing to drop dead rather than to accept a score below her standards. Admittedly, Aurelia would rather drop dead.

Oh, how Aurelia Valentine spirals.

She sweats over everything. She assesses her performance in every class she attends. She nitpicks over her recitations along with her essays. She borrows books and tomes from the Library to fact check, to fact check, and to fact check again. Then, to fact check again. She memorises phrases to utter them perfectly. She appeared every bit like a child possessed from whispering information she learnt from the books she read.

Her eyebrows are almost permanently knitted together from worrying too much about acquiring perfect and excellent results.

No one will catch her hopping on that “to be perfectly imperfect” bandwagon as she deemed them utter rubbish. It is a good thing she never noticed her messy riot of long curls or her general appearance otherwise the young Hufflepuff witch would be nitpicking about them too, among other things. It is pitiful to witness a young, 12-year old girl to seek validation from the results of her performance.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Reducio
It was no secret that Matthew's second year had been tumultuous, in fact of one was to be perfectly honest no descriptor short of utter shit show really summed up the scope of torment he had been inflicted and catastrophe he, himself caused. There was a great deal of work that needed to be done to change, and that work ultimately began with him. Summer was a time of healing, a time to grow and marked a period of discovery, to learn the truth about his roots, about who he was at his core.

Our story started across the sea in Sweden. Matthew was not often afforded the luxury of foreign passport stamps so the journey was already off to a wonderous start, but this trip was not for tourism, it was an exploration into his beginnings. After managing to recover his mother's journal with the help of magic he had learned that her own story started not on the Scottish shores but nestled in the baltic sea on the municipality of Gotland. A Swede originally opened the small boys world up to a new horizon of past ancestry and for the first time he wondered if he might find some deeper connection to her.

All throughout his life, Matthew was said to ease the soul of others through his innate ability to listen and make those around him feel seen. It gave him a sort of calming affect on those close enough to accept it which had only grown stronger since his discovery of magic. Despite these gifts though, he had a terrible knack for destruction, a fortune he did not wish for himself. This gift was always said to be his inheritance from a woman he knew so very little about but to truly understand it, he had to hone the connection. To learn its origin and walk in the footsteps of history.

Their journey would take them to the small town of Visby where her story had begun. Patrick, Matt's father, had always known Holly came from very little but never let it impact her, 'salt of the earth' he called her. From her profile with the Swedish population register, the boys had learned a little about a period that seemed entirely foreign to them. Little was found for her parents but arriving at a small medieval-esque cottage, out with the towns ancient walls, they walked the paths she once would at the age she had been. Being here he felt the twinge of his serene energy warm him despite the dreary day, like it recognised and connected with the woman who had bestowed it to him. Here, Holly grew up with her grandmother Ingrid, attended school and began her journey as the healer she would eventually grow to be.

From her diary Matthew had learned of the traditions of Sámi traditional medicine just as she had from her grandmother. This blend of natural based alternative medicine was not the scholar nurse that Patrick had met in Glasgow but provided a basis for her love of the practice. Yet the more his father pondered on it the more he realised that every herbal tea recipe he knew had come from these works, had laid a foundation for Matthew's childhood. While she wasn't with them in person, she had always been with them in spirit.

As Holly grew so did her belief in the power of healing and benefits of medicine to the world as a whole. She discovered that it was not merely a passion but a calling she felt compelled to answer and as such attended Sophiahemmet university as soon as possible from the age of 18. As they followed her movements and kept her memory alive they ate in cafes and browsed shops she might have once perused, but once they sailed to Stockholm and visited her school the trail went cold. Her time between her studies and her move to Scotland was still as much a mystery to them both, but despite what could have been viewed as a failure, Matthew had never felt closer to his mother.

Whatever her full story was, he knew not, but he knew she loved people. That she wanted nothing more than to protect them and that was an honour he knew she would want him to continue. Healing was sacred and magic only opened the doors to a far wider range of power; sure he had inflicted plenty of pain this year, but perhaps the very chance to become something more was the best apology. Illowy had charged him with becoming the next Slytherin protector, the burn scar on his neck had reminded him of the fragility of the human condition, his mother had taught him the power of a calling and laid the foundation for his future.

So the studying began, Matthew delved into the mind palace he had lived for so long and started coveting information wherever he could. Much like his lineage he would not dismiss the benefits of herbal remedies, nature provided all sorts of miracles and was not to be underestimated. The boy found that the magical world was full of ingredients that only incurred him further to this belief. Perhaps he hadn't yet been called to healing like his mother, but if he could even help one person with her gifts as an aid. Perhaps he could finally honour her passing in a way that was not framed by guilt or remorse, but as a line of succession they forged together.

Describe why this fits my character
Reducio
I think being a parselmoth would fit my character well because of her deep connection with nature. She spent all her life in the forests, exploring and roaming around. Her first instance with magic tied strongly to her emotions and the environment around her and caused it to rain as she cried. This ability is more emotional and instinctive than learned and fits her style of magic and her connection with nature perfectly

She’s also a hufflepuff and that is the element of earth and focuses heavily on nature. My character is loyal and hardworking, never afraid to spend long hours practicing until she gets something right. Being able to speak parselmouth is about freedom and connection to nature.

Her adventurous spirit pushes her to explore what it means instead of hiding from it. She loves animals and learning about them so she is naturally curious about creatures others might fear, willing to step closer when most step back. It shows her unwillingness and stubbornness to back down from danger. Her ability lets her experience the magical world from a perspective few witches and wizards could ever understand.

Her being a parselmouth would reflect her forest-spirit and her thirst for adventure out of curiously even if it would be dangerous more than anything else. Not many wizards or witches would go to the extent she’d go to to learn new things and be one with nature.

Kafelé Kahotep is a boy infatuated with nature his facination with plants stemming from this as well as his fathers occupation. In potion making all sorts of ingredients are used from plants to animal bi-products. Seeing all this different plants be used to different effects made Kafelé curious. His parents had at one point noted that he was showing interest with there careers and bought him several books to study. Kafelé has been reading books about plants and animals since he was about six years old. Anytime he didnt understand something in the books his parents were there to help him figure it out. After he became more knowledgable he began makeing notes of his own. Kafelé would study the plants and animals in his books and any native flora or fauna outside his home. Kafelé enjoyed taking walks through the woods and finding places to lay down or sit so he could watch nature and he would get lost in what to most people would seem like the most trivial things. Kafelé would sit down to in front of a common plant found all over and document everything about it. He would write down the size shape and color as well as an illustration. His journals were full of information about native plants and animals. Knowledge that seemed common place for most but those journals were treasures too him. Any chance Kafelé got to sneak away with a potion ingredient that was included in one of his books he took. He would try to test them out if he was under the impression they were harmless and if they were a seed of some kind he would try to plant them.

Kafelé didnt have many magical plants but his garden was exstensive. Most people would walk past it thinking it was just a patch of weeds but Kafelé knew every plant in that patch. There was Urtica dioica (stinging Nettle), Achillea millefolium (common yarrow), Ranunculus repens (creepimg buttercup), Lonicera periclymenum (honeysuckle), Erigeron philadelphicus (fleabane) and even some Silene flos-cuculi (ragged robin). That last one was one of his favorites having pretty pink petals. Of course his mother tended a vegetable and herb garden and Kafelé loved to help. His years of study and cultivation has awarded him with a green thumb and a collection of botanical treasures. Even if other people can only see weeds kafelé see's life and beauty.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Obnoxiously Strong
Describe why this fits your character: 507/400 words

Reducio
If somebody took a glance at Ebony, the last word they would've thought of would be the word "strong". That was back in her first year. Back then, all those years ago, she was small in stature; her frame was tiny and her arms were barely anything but skin and bones, let alone muscles. Her cheeks were almost bony, etching a sunken expression permanently on her face. She was far from strong; she was its opposite. You could say that she was far from athletic as well; she used to always be in the company of either books and parchment or the dolls she played with to entertain herself. The lack of physical activity sure contributed to her lack of muscle mass.

It all changed, however, when Ebony discovered the wonders of Quidditch. Nobody was more surprised than herself when she became a beater; it seemed almost contradictory to her personality and stature. Aren't beaters stereotypically aggressive and strong and athletic... and everything that she wasn't? It seemed strange at the time, and Ebony felt rather uncomfortable; simply put, it was undoubtedly outside of her comfort zone. But as she attended practice after practice diligently, she realised it was exhilarating. The comfortable feel of the weighty metal bat, the rush of adrenaline as she swung it, and the satisfying crack that followed when the bludger came into contact with it sent her into a period of Quidditch obsession.

If only her hits were actually good. Ebony soon found that her lack of physical strength severely hindered her ability to play as a beater. The bat she wielded was no regular bat; it was crafted out of metal, and at first, she could barely prop them up with her thin arms. After an hour or two of practice, her arms would start to tremble, and she would have a terrible ache the following morning. Her lack of strength not only affected her stamina but also affected the speed and impact of her hits. During her first few games, the bludgers that she hit barely grazed a single opponent; many evaded with ease, given the bludger's slow acceleration. The lucky few that met its target often barely dealt a tangible impact, and were far from taking anyone off their brooms.

There were certain moments back then that brought in self-doubt. Perhaps she never should have become a beater; perhaps she just wasn't built for sports; perhaps she should just give up. But Ebony refused to let her physical strength, or lack thereof, impede on her ability to follow her passions. From then on, across the span of multiple years, she dedicated herself to building up her strength independently the Muggle way (she diligently lifted weights every day) and pushed herself harder than ever before during each and every training. Now, whenever she looks in the mirror and sees her broadening shoulders and muscular arms, she smiles, self-confidence blooming, knowing that she can finally reap the fruit of her hard work and gain what she had lacked since childhood: strength.

Describe why this fits you character:

Derek was a second-year Gryffindor at Hogwarts. He was an enthusiastic wizard and nerd, so he would often send letters home for advice and help and he also had a subscription to many magazines and etc. But, when one day he saw an eagle attacking Perseus, his owl, he realized that Perseus might suffer greater danger like poachers or, the stars forbid, hungry animals. So, Derek decided to train his Perseus, to know when there was danger and either attack without mercy, or flee like the wind. Derek’s main idea was for Perseus to either attack or fly away, depending on what was happening. Every day after classes, and Derek didn't have Quidditch practice, he took Perseus outside to practice. He started by showing Perseus a simple signal -- a flick of his finger -- to tell the owl to watch for danger. He set up fake threats, like a dummy or a ree wrapped in a cloak, to see if Perseus would react. When Perseus saw the signal and responded by swooping down or flying away, Derek gave him a treat to reward his good behavior. Derek repeated this many times so Perseus could learn to recognize the signal. He also made sure to change the practice so Perseus wouldn’t get confused. Sometimes he used loud noises or moved objects to trick Perseus into thinking there was danger. Other times, he used the same signals without any real threat, so the owl wouldn’t attack or fly away when there was no danger. Over time, Perseus started to understand what to do when Derek made the signal. If there was real danger, Perseus would attack or fly away quickly. If there was no threat, he would stay calm. Derek trained him to tell the difference so Perseus wouldn’t make mistakes. He kept practicing every few days, making sure Perseus responded fast and correctly. Derek also set up a few courses so Perseus would know if there was danger or not. He would hide behind a tree and leave Perseus alone so he could train his independence. Derek would throw small replicas of dangerous objects, like a mini eagle or a poacher. He was careful not to rush the training and made sure Perseus trusted him. The more they practiced, the better Perseus got at judging when to attack or flee. Derek was happy with how fast Perseus was learning. He knew that this training would help him stay safe and that Perseus was becoming a smarter, stronger and more independent owl. Each day, Derek saw how much Perseus was improving, and he felt ready for anything that might happen at Hogwarts or outside the castle.
