Congratulations to Miss @Ruth Fairchild, who, with a passing grade, has moved on to become our house's not-so-new addition to the sports team. We wish our new captain good fortune as they work alongside Miss Matilde O’Fionnagan in the upcoming seasons.

This patch involves 2 small changes to some existing spells, which you can find below. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and we will answer your questions. You can always ask questions in our FAQ thread and an available captain will be there to answer you.

Spell Changes and Clarifications

Petrificus Totalus
To avoid confusion we've edited the wording to hopefully clarify when a someone under the effect of Petrificus Totalus can be damaged. The spell has been edited to reflect the following:

• Players under the effect of Petrificus Totalus cannot be actively targeted by opponents in a match. These spells choose their own targets after a successful cast and can still effect the player:
  
  - Smokescreen Spell
  - Weather-modifying Charm
  - Blinding Light Charm
  - Shocking Area Spell
• The sentence: Repeated cast will reset the duration if it's higher than the remaining duration. has been removed from the spell as the player under the effects of Petrificus Totalus cannot be actively targeted.

Reducio

Damage
• 50
Effect
• The target is paralysed and falls down, unable to move and cast. They cannot be actively targeted by opponents in a match as the usage of targeted spells is illegal (IC Rules).
• The target can still be affected by the following spells:
- Smokescreen Spell
- Weather-modifying Charm
- Blinding Light Charm
- Shocking Area Spell
• Every round of duration a Strength Check is performed to attempt breaking out of the effect.
• The DC to break out of the spell is 10 + 1 for every 5 points in the caster's Arcane Power.
Duration
• 1-2 rounds (1d3, 1-2: 1, 3: 2) + 1 round for every 10 points in Arcane Power.
Nullify
• Strength Check (see above) allows breaking out of the effect before the duration is over, but the player will suffer –3 Evasion for the remaining duration.
• General Counter-Spell removes the whole effect, but the target will suffer –3 Evasion for 1 round.
• Healing Spell removes the whole effect with no penalty.
Critical Failure
• The effect is applied to the caster.
Critical Success
• The base DC to break out is 12, no duration roll — max duration applied.
Impaired Hit
• Damage halved to 25.
• The target suffers –3 EVA for the duration of the spell.
• The target can move and perform actions, but can also be attacked.
• Active dodging is not possible.
• Duration is not affected.

Confringo
Although a fan favourite for it's destructive properties we've decided to add a few edits to the spell to hopefully balance it out a bit more. The spell has been edited to reflect the following:

• A +2/-1 AFC has been added to Confringo
• A 10% rebound chance has been added to Confringo

Reducio

Damage
• 150 + AP × 15 or 10 + AP × 8
Effect
• Spell makes the floor at the target's feet explode.
• The spell is affected by the Auto-Fail Counter (+2/–1) mechanics.
• If they get hit by the explosion, they take full damage.
• If they manage to evade the brunt of the explosion (successful Evasion check or Auto-Dodge/Miss), they take reduced chip damage from flying splinters.
• There is a 10% chance the explosion will affect the caster as well, in which case they'd take the chip damage.
Duration
• No Duration
Nullify
• None.
Critical Failure
• The caster suffers the full damage.
Critical Success
• +80 damage on hit, +30 damage if chip damage.
Impaired Hit
• Damage is halved.

@Beatrice Forsyth is stepping down from her racing captaincy. Don’t fret – she’ll still be on the team! Nonetheless, we are looking for a new racing captaincy to work alongside @Mylo Atkins.

As a captain, you will be expected to:

- Moderate broom races
- Help with strategy and team discussions
- Contribute to the further development of the broom racing system with patching discussions and implementation
- Develop challenging race courses that may help you better your own moderation skills.
- Maintain and update the racing roster.
- communicate with your Head of House regarding access needs (and tags) for new team members as well as members who have been removed.
- Timely submission of team actions and stats to the mod for the game.
- Being part of our official Discord is a requirement of the role.

So why apply?

- You will have a hand in future development, policies and patches
- You will be compensated for your efforts with IC money.
- There is a level of control that comes with this and your efforts may make the difference between success and failure for your team.
- This is a moderator-level position that can be cited on staff applications.

The Test

Please keep in mind that you will need to complete a test based on the official Broom Racing system. This is so that we can determine if you are capable of understanding how to moderate matches and have the math mastery for the role. While someone might be good at normal math, moderation can be difficult for some. When you receive the test, you will have until one week after we receive passing tests to complete it and send us the results.

We have received a passing broom racing test! This means that there is now a deadline for applications for the position of Broom racing captain. This deadline is April 25th, 7 days from the time of this announcement.
