Normally, Pericles was fond of fog. It was the weather he liked best, when a wall of the stuff washed in from the sea and swallowed his home. It felt like a soothing, atmospherical blanket that blocked out all stressors, adding an aura of mystery to the mundane. That wasn't how this fog felt at all. No, before the shroud could cover them, his expression could briefly be seen as tense and tinged with annoyance. But when he spoke next, his voice- from somewhere in the cloud- was polite as ever. "Sophi?" Nearly a whisper, so their opponents wouldn't pinpoint them. "Make a sound." All he needed was the scuff of a shoe, maybe the tap of a wand, and Peri took aim. A healing spell found its way through the veil and provided a tingling, fleeting sense of relief. On the other end of it, Peri was frowning sullenly into the mist. Being deprived of his senses made him uneasy, though they were far from finished. "Brace yourself..." was the whisper, squinting where he suspected the other side of the stage was.

@Kim Sato looked bad. He knew the feeling, being two steps away from a nice long nap, yet trying desperately to remain awake. Kim was going to need some cover if he was to have a better shot at making it much longer. And Galton was happy to provide.

As the dense soupy blanket covered the Ravens, Galton’s senses began to tingle. He had to be alert now, his eyes wouldn’t help him much now. How exhilarating it was to try to pick them out. Or should he turn his attention to his wounded partner, completely visible? Mmm… an interesting moral dilemma.

Now that it was down to Hogwarts, Sophia knew what had to be done.

The eagles had to show the lions why their domain was the sky. Sophia and Peri were each a wing, and together they would soar high or plummet to the ground as one. On that note, Peri's advice echoed in Sophia's head.

'Remember to set your friend on fire.'

Sophia had vehemently argued against the very concept of casting even a single spell at Kim on purpose when they'd been practicing, but now, in the heat of the moment, she wasn't feeling such doubt. It was a duel, and they were opponents. Sure, later that night they may very well be hanging out and laughing about the duel, but in this moment he was the enemy, and she needed to do what she could to take him down.

...besides, it wasn't as if she could handle Galton. That was more up Peri's alley.

So Sophia resolved herself to attack her friend. She didn't quite have the resolve to set him on fire, necessarily, but she could at least attack him.

Before she could even try, however, a dense fog rolled in and she was unable to see a thing! How was she supposed to attack Kim like this? She was sure she knew where he was, since she'd just had her eyes on him, but was she really going to risk firing a spell blindly in his direction?

Sure she was.

"Flipendo!" she shouted, ending the wand movement with a point in Kim's direction.

...unfortunately - or fortunately, if she was honest - the spell didn't sound like a hit. She heard no yelp from Kim's side and she could almost instinctively feel the jinx miss its mark. Well, darn.

As the fog blocked every bit of vision they could have possibly mustered, Sophia felt a warm, soothing sensation covering the bruises she'd gained from the fall after taking the Knockback Jinxes earlier on. She still felt quite a bit lightheaded, but the dull throbbing in her behind and back were greatly relieved. Before she could offer up a thank you, Peri whispered, trying to figure out her location. Wow. He was amazing. An expert strategist.

In response to his request that she make a sound, she gave three soft stomps of her left foot, hoping it would suffice and that it also wasn't loud enough to alert the Gryffindors of her position.

For the briefest of seconds, Sophia fantasized idly that she had the abilities of Matt Murdock. She'd be unstoppable in this fog. Still, the moment passed as quickly as it'd arrived, and she was still trapped in the foggy heckscape.

Peri's warning to brace herself did little to ease her mind of the foreboding sensation that was causing goosebumps to form on her arms and a surprisingly cold chill forced her to shiver. This was kind of spooky.

Oh well. They still weren't out of this yet.

I didn't know for sure what Reparifors would do in this situation, and the wiki mentioned poisons and magical effects, so it was probably a huge stretch that it could relieve pain from bruises. If that doesn't fit the lore, let me know and I can edit it!

The fire had been put out.

But it had already done some damage to his completely white outfit he'd been wearing for the duel.

If he'd known he would be participating in the summer duels, he would have worn something different, lighter and not as restricting when it came to his arms. But as it was, being set on fire had been a blessing because it had burned off the entire right side of the clothing covering his arm. Kim had let the severed piece of white material drop onto the floor and snuffed the remnants of the fire out. And now, would turn his attention to his remaining opponents. The two Claws. Galton had decided to opt for making it harder for them to see them and Kim tried to help him out.

But his aim and focus on the spell didn't go too well because of what had happened earlier. Perhaps he'd been distracted by being set on fire before. Whatever the case was, Kim knew he needed to focus this next time. If he failed in his next attack, it couldn't be contributed to his skill or focus. If he failed next time it would be because his wand decided to become temperamental. Because one thing was for sure, Kim wasn't going to cast anything until he was absolutely sure his focus was 100% perfect. He needed his next spell to go through if he was to survive this duel.

For another round that is.

Pericles wasn't quite done getting Ravenclaw's strength back up, and this time he would go a bit grander, the light of another healing spell falling on both Sophia and himself. What else was there to do, anyway? He could try taking a shot in the dark, hope his ears pinpointed his opponents well enough to take aim, but that wasn't very likely to work. No, healing up was a very smart use of these moments in the fog.

Sophia seemed to be of the same mind; casting in this would be pointless. With no healing spells to contribute, she put all her efforts into paying attention to incoming spells. All of Pericles' work being undone right away would be pretty lame. She managed to avoid Kim's Flipendo--truth be told, that had about as much to do with the fact he couldn't see her in the fog as it did with her dodging skills. When it came to Galton's Ventus, her luck would run out.

Anyone who had watched Galton duel might have picked up on a certain pattern of his team leveraging things like this, this thick fog settled around the duelling stage. Such visual impairments didn't seem to particularly phase the older Gryffindor. As someone who had seen Galton duel before, Bridget wasn't surprised to see him confidently wielding a spread Ventus even with the Ravenclaws hidden from sight. The wind would thin the fog just a bit as it shot toward Pericles and Sophia. That brief visual seemed to give Pericles just enough time to jump out of the way, but Sophia was hit, and as the fog filled back in around the path cut by the spell, she would find herself slowed and effectively blind. Not a great position to be in; if they weren't careful, perhaps Galton would pick them off before they could see anything but fog again.

Just once more.... Peri urged his wand for another split, though the ability's strain was getting to him. At least there came a wave of healing magics, both for himself and his partner, who he narrowly managed to target in the fog thanks to that stomping sound. "Better?" It was an unnerving state to be in, robbed of one's sight, but this would keep them going a little while longer. He strained his ears, bracing himself for the sound of a spell whizzing his way, tense on his feet.

The fog was getting old, really fast.

Sophia made a mental note to do something to work on her ability to not end up in this situation again, but her head wasn't thinking very clearly, and there was no way she'd remember any time soon. Maybe she'd think about it later? For right now, though, she just wanted to lie down. It was getting harder to keep her eyes open, and she almost felt like she was going to throw up.

She focused on steadying herself on her feet even as a spell flew past her. That'd apparently been Kim's Flipendo, and it'd completely missed the mark. Not wanted to waste this streak of luck, Sophia made sure to remain quiet to try and hide her location in the fog.

...unfortunately, it didn't help all that much. The fog parted only briefly - not even long enough to see Galton's face as he casted Ventus - and the burst of wind caught her almost entirely by surprise, knocking the wind out of her chest and pushing her back just a bit. She managed to keep to her feet, though her stance was certainly a bit more wobbly than before.

She felt the relief of Peri's Reparifors as her breaths began to come more easily and what was probably going to bruise over only dully ached.

"Better?"

"Much, thank you," she said with a smile, even though he couldn't see it most likely.

Deciding that her position was found easily enough that time, Sophia decided to risk a taunt.

"Say, Galton, you really take my breath away, but can't you do better than that?"

One hit out of two was good, but it wasn’t great. He was annoyed he felt that way. Galton, even with his inflated ego, wasn’t one to expect such things from himself. More so when splitting spells. If anyone was to be annoyed by it, it should be Mr. Wand. But maybe that is why the taunt from Sophia had some effect.

There was truth to it though. He wasn’t one to pack a particularly big punch with his spells, and it seemed it showed when pitted against raw healing. He still needed to make some comment though. ”Sorry, but no matter how I try to wow you next, I’m afraid you may not be able to see it.” It was the first time Galton could remember talking to an opponent during a duel. First for everything?

The fog was kind of thick.

It would have been thicker had his Fumos gone off earlier but he'd failed that particular spell earlier.

Well, practice makes perfect. Not that Kim was going to attempt that one again. He was a perfectionist and wouldn't do a spell unless he was 100% certain he could do it correctly. Of course, it could still fail due to a number of other issues but the issues wouldn't be on his end. It would most likely be outside influences, things he hadn't counted on. While the two Claws were obscured within the fog created by Galton, Kim couldn't really see inside it. Galton could but that was because he had more experience than him and had probably picked up a few useful skills along the way.

Regardless, what was there to do inside such a fog? If it was him, Kim would have focused on healing, which was exactly what Pericles decided to do. Unfortunately, he'd used Spell Spread to do a double healing, which was not beneficial for the Lions. Still, anything could happen during this duel, despite what had just gone on. Kim was bound and determined to do the best he possibly could, even though it was his first time. If he won, he'd have to practice harder to continue to win. Perhaps the team would see potential in him and include him on the official roster as well.

If he lost...

Well, Kim would still work hard to prove he was an asset to the dueling team and hoped eventually he'd get picked.

Regarding Sophia, well... Kim kind of wanted Sophia to be taken out fast, not because he wanted to win against her but because he was concerned about her state. She seemed to have a slight concussion and needed to be taken care of as fast as possible. The sooner she got taken out, the sooner she'd get treatment and be back to her normal self again. Being taken out was her only option for a fast trip to the healer's tent, as Kim and Galton certainly weren't going to just fold over and hand the win to them. The boy's Flipendo on her ended up missing, due to the thick fog.

But that was fine, even if spells missed, it didn't mean his future spells would miss. All he had to do was eventually connect and things would start to happen. Kim glanced over at Galton as he traded words with Sophia.

You could tell that they were well into the second half of the duel, thoughts of the end perhaps now creeping in, by the way the spell choice zeroed into Flipendoes and Flipendoes only. No longer were the duellists carefully weaving spells to tip the environment in their favor. There was only single-minded intent to take out whoever you could as efficiently as possible.

Sophia and Kim were the targets. Both younger, both less experienced with taking spells, both already on their last legs. But there was a key difference: Kim was unhindered in his dodging ability, and Sophia was off-balance and blind. Not to mention Ravenclaw was aiming with, at best, a vague idea of where Kim even was. So while both Ravenclaw spells missed, Gryffindor was not so unsuccessful, and Sophia not so lucky. One, two, down.

Between the fog starting to thin and that distinct thud sound made when someone hit the floor, Bridget was clued in: Sophia was out. "Hold your spells!" It was said with more urgency than average, just in case anyone had missed what had happened within the depths of the haze. Another one pulled off, and then it was down to three. Gryffindor had the upper hand now, certainly, but Pericles had demonstrated far too much competence this duel to be written off just yet. "Resume."
