As Yefim was laughing about the snake's bad luck, Greta piped in with her own thoughts, seeming to dislike the idea that they were winning by luck rather than hard work. Yefim would look back and nod sagely. He meant to imply the opposing team would need to be extremely lucky to beat them, not that luck was on their side. English was hard.

”Work. Yes.” He knew what a hard worker Greta was, despite her looking like a frightened woodland creature sometimes. She had been one of the best Chasers he had ever known, and now she was dodging spells and conjuring fire like a professional duelist. ”We work harder.”

When the pesky blonde tried scrambling back to her spot, Yefim stepped in place, too big and strong for her to have any chance of muscling in. Even at his most laid back rolling a 3 he was like a brick wall against the flimsy arms of the nerd crew in front of him. His Queen commended him, their plan was going perfectly. He made sure to give the board a good sweep with his eyes. Cornered, pushed around, on fire. Just beautiful. He'd witness the destruction with the face of a proud father.

Looking at the Worm Queen, who had done a fairly adept job at running away and ducking behind meat shields so far, Yefim would scratch at an itch on the back of his neck with his wand as he spoke, ”Are you scared?”

Mentioning:
[font=Monotype Corsiva]Enzo completely ignored whatever nonsense the opposing queen had said. In his opinion she was just green with envy, giving a new meaning to wearing her house’s colours, and that was not at all his problem.
His attention couldn’t help but be caught by how one of his attackers had then whistled at him. Enzo looked over, a small side smirk appearing on his face. At least someone had enjoyed his little display.

Shortly after he managed to dodge an unexpected spell that came out of no where from someone who had never targeted him prior. Unappreciative of such randomness, Enzo glared over at the snake who was at the casting end of the spell, but did not dwell on it for too long since he was confident that Greta would take care of her sooner or later.

Then he casted another flipendo towards the queen. Maybe, hopefully, this could redeem him and help him forget about his last two failures. But alas, luck wouldn’t have it, and embarrassingly enough, he missed. For the third time. “This is bullshit” He hissed as he looked down at his wand and briefly inspected it for clarification that it wasn’t visibly tampered with. The worst part was that he’d promised that he wouldn’t miss his mark again, so he was certain that it would only be moments until the sound of gloating would infect his ears.

In a battle of movement between a small scrawny girl and a brawny Durmstrang boy, it was pretty obvious who was going to win that fight. As Starlee attempted to move forward, the boy easily managed to hold her back, with his queen right behind him, spouting out their plans. He seemed pretty much like her little puppy, doing as she said. Her frown became even more so as she noticed that none of her team had managed to land a single spell, and she closed her eyes, hoping that their luck would turn. They were the dueling champions, not this rag-tag team.

If last round was terrible, this was even more so. Spells fired through the air, and Piper wasn't even sure what happened before the opposition advanced rather terrifyingly. Starlee attempted to move back in front of Piper, but another student wrestled with her and was soon staring at Piper through Percival and Opeila. Meanwhile, Percival had been set on fire even more, which did not at all help matters. The poor other boy who had extinguished her was hit with a nasty spell. Enzo, she noticed, had missed her yet again, as she sidestepped his spell once more (barely in time). The brawny boy leered at her, taunting.

No, she was not scared, she told herself, not at all.

Her stomach disagreed.

Still, the only thing that was worse than losing was acting like a loser. "No, I'm not. Half your team has terrible aim." Piper lifted her slightly quivering chin and tried not to think of what might happen if Yefim got his hands on her now. Or that other queen. She was kind of intimidating too, commandeering the rest of the forces.

This wouldn't end well.

One thing could not be denied about this duel, and it was that this was one full of action and suspension as the lives possibility of knockout grew closer for some people on the field. Luckily Percival's teammate, Starlee, was there to back him up with a finely executed Extinguishing Spell. It didn't put the fire out completely but it did look like it was beginning to go away. However, his spell that was fired at Greta missed her entirely, he was having a bad streak in spells. Opeila also tried to take her shot at Greta but she missed as well. Piper took a step in, maybe the right, direction simply moving to A1. Hanako was the other successful spellcaster, hitting Lovanna with a might fine Flipendo. But she simply bumped into the person behind her saving her from moving back a spot.

On the other side of the board there were similar successes and failures. Greta, while dodging two spells moved over to C2. Yefim targeted the other team's queen with a successful Incendio Duo, leaving two members on fire. Luckily for the Vipers the fire didn't seem to strong on their precious queen. But Enzo backed up Yefim's attack with a successful Flipendo. If she wasn't already backed into a corner she surely would've had to move back. Lovanna attempted to hit Opeila with a Flipendo, and while her cast was successful it missed entirely. Last but not least, with all the action on the board Roberta ended up knocking herself back with a Flipendo as her wand backfired. Willow couldn't help but wince. There was nothing worse than your own wand hitting you with a spell. Hopefully she could recover any diminished confidence quickly.

Information
  1. IMPORTANT: the iNPC team has used their "jolly" / bonus previously, meaning that even though the actions were sent after the deadline, they were still counted and rolled for. The Slytherin team still has their jolly; this jolly can be used only once during the game.
  2. You have 72 hours (1st of September, 10:42 PM, GMT -5) from now to write your entrance posts (50 words min).
  3. In the same time period, send both moderators (Lydia Cooper & Willow Anderson) your team's actions per owl. Do not hint at your actions in your post. If you won't post in the allotted time frame, your action will be void.
  4. Please follow the rules for Chess Combat (can be found here)
  5. Your Stats, Abilities, and Spells have been locked to what they are now for the duration of this contest. You will be able to use spells that you have learned before graduation.
  6. If you have questions or notice something odd about the mod post, don't hesitate to owl or DM one of the moderators (Lydia Cooper or Willow Anderson).
  7. Good luck, and have fun!
Edit: Took an additional -60HP from Percival Gray due to the overlapping rounds of Incendio Duo.
Double Edit: Since Roberta casted diagonally she would've backfired to D4 instead of D3. Apologies!

Their queen replied pretty much exactly how he wanted her to. She was scared, and trying not to show it. He knew what that felt like, it was a gateway to weakness. Now she'd be doubting herself, now she was actively thinking about how scared she was. She could muster up all the courage she possibly could, but she would still be running for her life. Of course, nothing makes a predator happier than seeing their prey running.

”Incendio Duo!”

With that, he whipped his wand around to blast her with fire. A common theme this match, and for a good reason. Of course, a good punch to the jaw would have been ten times as effective, but he was barred from that avenue, sadly. Watching people burn alive was nearly as fun, and even that other bishop who had trouble hitting his mark was able to land a good one at the perfect time. She had to be hurting now, no doubt because she was trembling in fear too much to dodge.

It would of course be a shame that their own Queen's spell backfired. He didn't blame her, spells were tricky even after lots of practice, everything always had to be perfect.

”Next time.” He'd say, looking back.

She wasn't the only one to miss, and they were starting to take on more damage of their own. He wouldn't admit it out loud, but this was far from the end of the fight. Things could go seriously wrong, tables could turn. He just couldn't let the opponents know that. As the enemy queen scampered away, he couldn't help but wish Roberta's move had landed, how perfect would that have been? Well, life wasn't perfect. It was playing with the cards you were dealt, not the ones you wished for, that would ensure victory.

Opeila was frustrated. Really frustrated. How could it be, that she couldn't even land ONE SINGLE SPELL? The Durmstrang girl in front of her evaded both her and Percival's spells as if she had never done another thing in her life. Very irritating. Well, at least the other team had some wonderful fails for once. Another girl attempted to cast a spell at Opeila and for once it was on her to evade a spell... wonderful.
And their Queen... Shot a spell into her own face. What was that about? The Slytherin wasn't complaining but still...

Lips downturns just slightly. Although she couldn't quite be certain—the mannerisms of these Brits oftain foiled her—Greta was fairly certain both of her opponents were irritated with her. Especially the boy. All she wanted to know was if he was new to duelling...Instead she had to duck as another flash of light came shooting towards her. He was getting better every time. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end with the acknowledgement that it was only a matter of time before one of his spells caught her off guard and landed to painfully send her careening back on the tiles.

"I... I am sorry?" Greta sputtered towards him, shot with the sudden realization that maybe she had said the wrong words before. Oh gosh...what had she said...?? "I not mean harm of feeling!"

Whether he'd believe her would be another matter entirely, but she didn't have time to dwell in that. Elsewhere, a thud led Greta to peer behind just in time to see their Queen fly back. Brows furrowed as she bit her lip, momentarily demoralized to see that they'd finally—somehow—landed a hit on their Queen. (The notion that Roberta had backfired with her wand had never even crossed Greta's mind as she'd never experienced such an event, herself). It was still anyone's game, and the Pigspotters seemed to be rallying. This was all the more evidenced by a shout and flash of light to her left made her duck all over again. It seemed these two were bent on eliminating Greta from the game.

But they would all have to try harder than that, Greta vowed!

Twisting, hair dancing in the movement of the pseudo pirouette, the dark haired girl's spell flew harmless past through the space where Greta had been moments before. Momentum carried her forward. Towards the back of the board, Greta had spied the opposing queen seeming to finally have had enough of dodging enemy fire. She snuck back, retreating into the corner. This could be their chance to corner her and lock her down! One step forward meant one square closer to cutting off any additional retreat.

Of course it also meant she was now very up and personal with both of her attackers. They were...quite a bit taller than her, she realized. "Ehm...H-hallo...?" Greta stammered, chin lifting to peer up at the boy.

Lovanna shot another Flipendo and it was growing closer and closer to it's target and it was almost there but Lovanna closed her eyes at that moment not looking if it had hit it's target. But she thought the person wouldn't have had enough time to move as it was inches from the person when Lovanna closed her eyes.

Lovanna was still angry at Tone, but this was only because she was quite competitive when she wanted to be, so that's why she didn't actually mean it.

Starlee cast what she thought was actually a quite magnificent Extinguo, managing to put out some of the flames on her teammate, yet not all of them. While she was proud of her spell, she wished it could have been a more offensive one, but perhaps it was just something within her healing nature.

The rest of her team still seemed to be struggling, but the opposing queen had managed to backfire her spell, sending her backward. Piper was hit again, Percival was still on fire, and everyone was still standing. There was still time to turn the tides.
