Things only seemed to get worse rather than better for the poor Southerner. But he was not one to back down. Especially when there were so many behind him still. He knew he probably wouldn't be able to win at this point, but he sure as hell knew he wasn't coming last and that was fine enough for him. On top of getting stuck in some vines a terrible dark fear came over him. A boggart had latched onto him, someone who didn't even know the spell to get rid of it. He was stuck in this terrible crushing fear. It consumed him on the path of the race.

There was no longer a race at all to him.

Interacting with No one really
Everything started to get dark and the scarred Hufflepuff hated it with a passion. Without a moment’s hesitation, she waved her wand and muttered, “Lumos Duo”. The light shone brightly around her, helping to pave the way through the darkness. It made her more noticeable but at the same time, it gave her a sense of ease. A guiding light, if you will.

Serena flew through the course as swiftly as possible, whilst trying to dodge all of the obstacles. There were so many different things to look out for - random branches, vines, thorns, creatures as well as other racers. It was kind of chaotic in all honesty, with everything happening all over the place to everyone. She was struggling to keep track of where her team mates were by now.

Wait, had a student fallen? Someone was standing in the forest. Was it a team mate? She saw them donning a bit of green but before she could react she had to pull herself upwards to avoid crashing. Ahhh. Perhaps they has crashed, were they hurt and unable to move? As soon as she steadied her broom, she glanced over her shoulder to see who it was and if they needed help but there was no one there... did she imagine it? She had no idea but she continued to fly, not wanting to waste any time on potential figments of her imagination. Where there any slytherin students even in this race?

Almost immediately after he successfully knocked an opponent off their broom, Kheanu got ganged upon by what seemed to be the boy's teammates seeking reparations. In a coordinated move, what was once Kheanu's speedy trek to the finish line was now a quick trip to the ground.

A slightly painful one.

What was most painful, however, was the gaping tear left on his silk satin shirt from falling against the cave wall. "This is Fendi Fall Collection 2021, voi barbari! you barbarians!" Watching his broom glide slowly down, Kheanu would try to find his attackers in the dark.

"You're going to have to pay for that!"

While Florian thought he had been battered around last time, this round seemed to fare even worse. Again he couldn't help but hit even more of the trees they were racing through; brushing against one of them lightly, but entirely crashing into a second. He managed to hold on yet again, but "Zut..." 'darn' he muttered, as he quickly recovered and continued to race off.

Of course, once the French boy made it out of the trees, he made contact with a patch of thorns, scraping against his side, causing his leg to bleed. He reached down to wipe away the blood, again cursing to himself under his breath, but this time with much more profane language. This is what the boy had signed up for. He was a racer. He should be better than this.

Continuing on, he saw a mosp begin to attack those in the empty field, but he managed to get by unscathed. He was glad he wouldn't have to deal with that. But his true enemy came next, as the boy was quickly ensnared by vines, along with one of his opponents.

He struggled to free himself, but clearly he wasn't strong enough to break through. As he wiggled, he watched Angél make it through the vines unscathed. They still had a chance. Problem was, there was a boggart, who seemed to be affecting his ensnared buddy, and he would need to do something lest he be affected too.

Ah, it would appear Xailah thought herself to be the good player. She could have hexed the Durmstrang student where he hovered, but she didn't. Despite the lad later flying down to assist her. He introduced himself politely, giving his first and last name, before addressing the wily cattling as "ma'am". Ma'am? She could feel a grey hair begin to sprout. Not really. But damn, if hearing him say that didn't make her feel old. She was fairly certain- correction, she was darn certain- that she and this boy, Romeo, shared the same cabin. Cabin of the Pheonix was it? Safe house for the souls who went through fire and flame, only to remerge from the ash, renewed. This was going to be a problem. Maybe. Probably. Hopefully not. Xailah rolled the boys name around in her head. Marchonné. Marchonné. Marchonné. His surname was unmistakably familiar. She definitely heard it somewhere before. But where? From who- Nevermind. She knew. Piérre. Of course it had to be Piérre. Of course it had to be his brother- or mayhaps cousin? Hm. No. Brother. Siblings attending two different schools... That was a bit odd wasn't it? Well. Perhaps it wasn't too odd. Xailahs own sister- sweet, little Meadow- was a first year at Beauxbatons. Or was she a second year now? Goodness, how time flies. Speaking of flying, there was a race to focus on. Come on. Get your head back in the game kiddo.

Romeo was just as confusing as his brother. Though, much quieter about it. You don't just knock someone off of their broom, only to later apologize and offer assistance. Especially not in a competitive setting. Not unless you wanted something. Victory- that much needed pat on the back received only from helping someone- a chance to further humiliate whoever fell onto your path. What did Romeo want? What did he seek? Crave? She thought maybe, she could find the answer if she looked him in the eyes. She scanned his features briefly. Unlike his brother, Romeos face was of a more rounded sculpt, and slightly more tan. He lacked that Keebler Elf charm his Gryffindor brother had. When her eyes finally settled onto her opponets own, the metamorph would notice immediately, that his were not green. She had expected green, since his brother had hues that shone like sea glass.

The Durmstrang students eyes were a clear blue, and cold. His looks were enough to distract, and perhaps give any of his peers chills. However, unfortunately for Romeo, Xailah was not just "any of his peers". Physical attributes hardly drew her in. Personalities piqued her interest just enough- however real attraction blossomed from emotions. She needed emotional connections. Bonds with true meaning. To keep things simple, lets just say, she was no Juliet. And she was sure as hell not his princess to play white knight with. If that was his aim, the former Gryffindor did not have a chance. If. It was hard to gauge peoples intentions in a fast-paced setting like this one. Maybe there were other motives. Maybe he was genuinely being nice. Whatever it was, Xailah didn't want to think much about it. She would not take his help; instead choosing to only rely upon herself when it came to remounting her beloved DeSoto. She eyed the young mans open hand, with a cattish sneer. Had she been feeling petty, she might have taken it. Taken it, and used it to yank him off of his broom. But this was a race! Pettiness came later. After the win. Or loss. A minute was taken to inspect DeSoto. Any splits? Splinters? Scratches? No? Good. Redistributing her weight so she would be harder to knock off her broom; she sent a venomous leer to her Durmstrang antagonizer. "Watch yourself, boy." Was all she would say to Romeo.

The race went along well enough, once back in the saddle. Not as well as it could have gone for Xailah; but she was arguably faring much better than some of the other racers. Even when a stalactite hiding in her peripheral, nicked her in the side of her head. Ouchie. She felt a dizzying buzz for a bit; and her flesh grow warm where the hanging stream of hardened minerals scraped her. But it wasn't anything too serious, and was able to shake the former feeling off. She was able to maintain her grip on DeSoto, which was all that mattered while she traversed the darkened, narrow passage. She refused to be dismounted again.

There was a moment of excitement boiling up within the boy's body as Hugh noticed the world around him shift. But it took only one second more for him to realize that the walls were getting smaller, not bigger. In fact, he himself was growing in proportion. "Oh, no, no, no!" He growled as he felt his hair scrape across the cavern's ceiling. "Stupid twig!" He yelled at the wand in his hand. Almost throwing it at the other racers passing him by.

One of them got attacked by the others. It was the very same boy that had caused him to fall off his broom. As his enormous silhouette move and turned around, Hugh's eyes locked onto the young man with one eyebrow raised in amusement. Life had a way of throwing curveballs at you. Slowly, his lips would curl up into a wide smirk. "Oh, you better run, kid."

To fly, or not to fly? That is the question, and the answer is "ofc". Adrenaline pulled Johannes from gravity's grasp through what was basically the wizarding equivalent of a single-lane highway, past thick knots of trees and snagging thorns, heartbeat rabbit-quick and wholly on board with the blasphemy that was humanity flying. He wouldn't have been surprised if Hogwarts pulled a Hobbit and stuck them in Mirkwood for a change, let them go wild over cursed spiders and their sticky webs. Maybe a Halloween special?

Note to self: Practice quick shot flying through denser areas of foliage when free, because what a fucking nightmare it is to dash past grasping trees filled with thorns and ill-gotten spite. Barbs tearing gouges through the fabric and scraping down to skin, his wind-battered arms stung worse than papercuts dipped in lemon juice, the smell of rusted metal clogging his senses. This was why scourgify was invented, to attack blood seeping through threads.

By this point, he might as well take his revenge on the prickly oxygen-giving earth-broccoli by using his wand and retaliating against its own wooden kin. Better yet, just grab a thick branch and become a human Whomping Willow. Not right now, though, because even his rock-bottom sense of awareness realised that it was a bad time. After it was all over, things could become more likely.

MENTIONING: Theodore Duncain
| Allies: Durmstrang | Broom: Silver Arrow | Clothes: Uniform
The boy had gotten ahead of himself, scolding himself in his mind for achieving nothing this time. He should stop procrastinating and focus on the next task at hand instead, even though the bleeding bit. Luckily though, while it did sully his uniform on closer inspection, in would barely be seen from afar as the blood poured out of the wound like big scratches. He bit his teeth together, hoping he would be finishing this race before passing out on top of his broom. What a shame and dishonor that would be.

Nichlas grit his teeth together as he leaned into the wind that hit his front as he flew to cause as little friction as he could and gripped his broom more firmly, once again he would have to ignore the biting pain or the desire to simply turn around and seek a medic. He hated pain, why would anyone like it after all? It hurt and he was way too pretty to be hurting. Concentrate, he chided himself as his fingers curled around the broom stick and his eyes narrowed at Theodore who seemed to have snuck ahead of him. Unforgivable, the boy would pay one day. He should have heeded the warning.

Everything seemed to be getting better. Not as many crashes as before. Sébastien still hasn’t shown his full potential yet. Maybe if he took a little risk to help both himself and his team that his skills would finally break out of the shell that had been hidden for the last six months.

practice always made perfect but this time I’ll just have to wing it Berry thought to himself gripping the broom handle with sweaty palms. As long as his teammates could keep up with the standard, Sébastien would try keep up performance as much as possible as well.

This race could be going much worse. So for that, Jack was contempt. He had only received a couple of scrapes and bruises. The Prefect was ahead of the pack, and it seemed like it would stay that way for the most part. It also helps that he has a natural affinity for dodging attacks. It looks like that Durmstrang kid was looking for recompense. The only bad thing was the people in front of him, including his teammates, were quickly getting wiped out. It didn't seem like it was going to be a fun time for the most part. So now was the time to grit your teeth and take off—no more Mr. Nice Prefect.
