It was a nice evening in August, on the ninth of the month. He had a leaf of a mandrake in his hand, visiting Hogsmeade to see someone who was to administer this whole process, Hjordis Jenson. The father's eyes glanced around the town, not really interested in getting anything, just to be there for one sole purpose. When he saw her, he smiled and put the leaf in his mouth, and just kept his mouth shut.

He realized that it would've been nice to know BSL, since he felt opening his mouth would taint the process and it were best if he could keep his mouth shut. No spells, no yelling, nothing. He waved goodbye to the Deputy Headmistress and went home.

---
Throughout the month of August, he was.. well... quiet. If he expressed concern, he used exaggerated gesture to get his point across. He would sleep on his stomach, to try to reduce any form of accidental swallowing. Every single day of this lunar cycle as he lie in wait just for the process to be over, he began to pass his time by reading more about Largetooth Sawfish from a book he bought from his trip to the Smokies, at the Ripley's Aquarium there after seeing some ugly jagged rays that had the body of a shark but wasn't? a shark in all entirety. This itself interested him and therefore prompted him to buy some things for more research. This process continued until the fateful day of September, the eighteenth day of that month.

On that day, he looked up to see a clear sky and upon his 'gorgeous' face, a wide smile brimmed from one ear to the other.

It was a full moon outside. And there were no clouds! No rain! It was a perfect night! He jogged into the school, as it was September, to grab a phial and ran outside so that the moon ray was in direct view of what he was about to do and of the phial. He spit the leaf into the glass container and felt happy that he was able to speak again. Oh how silence was the hardest thing to maintain sometimes.

He went back inside with the moonstruck phial and plucked a hair off his head. The other ingredients he had already harvested earlier that morning. He strolled around trying to get stuff together. At the crack of dawn, right when the sun was rising, the wet dew from behind the Greenhouses were collected with a silvered teaspoon and right in the courtyard, beneath one of the seats where teenage students made out, Octavius found a chrysalis of a death’shead hawk moth.

Octavius went to where he stored the freshly harvested ingredients and added them in. He carried the vial further down the stairs into the basements, seeking for a place that would be untouched and quiet until an electrical storm happens. He saw a crate that had been sitting in the corridors down in the basement since he was the Astronomy Professor, and to his best guess, it would probably be undisturbed. That said, he put the vial in the crate and hoped that for the duration, no one would disturb it.

He was putting a lot of trust in these students, and he would probably be lucky if the trust did come to fruition. But almost as if it were instinctive, he sighed and grabbed the vial, moving to his classroom. He took the crate as well, having a plan.

When he made it into his classroom, he took multiple layers of fabric and wrapped it around the sides of the crate with the vial still in it, trying to make it as pitch black as he possibly could. He ended up using his jacket as a final layer, and when he was satisfied with how dark it could be, he put it at the very top shelf of his book shelf, far enough away from his son’s reach.

Every day at dawn and every day at sunset, at least until a storm would occur, he spoke the words ‘Amato Animo Animato Animagus’ with passion and consistently pictured himself as a gorgeous, yet equally hideous, longtooth sawfish, his wand’s tip placed over his heart.

He waited days until finally there was a rumbling outside, he looked out the window and a flash of light struck the ground. “Aha!” He exclaimed with a sense of joy. But during this particular electrical storm, as it finally happened, he took the crate down and undid all the covering he put on it and walked towards one of the many abandoned classrooms in the building, locking himself in, and repeated the incantation, “Amato Animo Animato Animagus.” One final time before he placed the mouth of the vial on his lips and drank the potion.

He could only hope that with Hjordis overseeing this entire process, that he did successfully perform the animagus process. He had told Hjordis all of his plans, where he got the ingredients, where he placed the vial, where he was going to be during this entire procedure. That was all he did in concerns of any sort of manner of conversation or with the presence of her.

Ministry of Magic File:
1. Wizard Name: Octavius Baird
2. Animal: Largetooth Sawfish (Pristis Pristis)
3. Description: The biggest part of Octavius's Largetooth Sawfish's body, or rather the most noticeable part, is the rostrum, which is essentially kind of like a saw in it's shape, as it has a large and flat snout lined with 24 teeth on each side, spaced evenly. His rostrum has a use, two main uses really, and it is to slash through (or stun and impale honestly) prey, such as fish. It also contains electro-sensory organs that help him hunt in water, should he ever need to do so.

His eyes are positioned on the topside of the body, also known as the dorsal side, and it gives Octavius a wide field of view as he glides near the bottom of the water's floor. His mouth is located on the underside, the fleshy bit and it is like that of any other rays in the marine world, and it allows him to essentially be a bottom-feeder.

His shape is basically flattened and like that of a ray with broad pectoral fins that kind of resemble wings. Octavius's size as the Largemouth Sawfish was at 24 meters long and weighed 1000 pounds.

His topside was colored gray with the underside being creamy white. His eyes, though, if one looked closely, was brown, like his own. When looking at his fins, his first dorsal fins are ahead of the pelvic fins, and the caudal fin (also known as the tail) has a lower lobe. The biggest identifying factor that would distinguish Octavius from other sawfish was the scar over his right eye. He was not able to see with his right eye in the water just as he could not on land.
4. Distinctive Marking: Scar over the right eye (octavius's reapp)

From the moment she had learned about what an animagus was, Akari knew she wanted to be one. Everything about it was just so intriguing. From what animal you would become, to the extremely tedious and lengthy process, it fascinated Akari a great deal. During her fourth year, when she threw herself into her studies and distanced herself from everything and everyone, this was one of the topics she found her self constantly drawn to. Due to her stubbornness, once her mind was set, it became next to impossible to change it, and it would not rest until she had achieved her goal. She decided this was something she wanted to do for herself, and elected to tell no one but the professors of her plan.

As soon as 5th year came around Akari had made it her top priority to start and receive guidance on the whole process. She knew it would be a long and possible very frustrating one, but she was incredibly determined, so she ignored all the doubtful thoughts that haunted the back of her mind. During the first month back at school when the full moon had arrived, Akari had placed the mandrake leaf in her mouth and during the rest of the lunar cycle was tremendously cautious as the consequence for losing it was having to wait for the next full moon and start all over again. Throughout this month of safe guarding the leaf in her mouth, she was well aware that there were a few specific ingredients that she still needed to obtain. The pursuit of the chrysalis of a death's-head hawkmoth was certainly gruelling. Every moment she could spare she spent exploring on the grounds, looking intently in every single nook and cranny the chrysalis could possibly be in (and in the ones that it possibly would not just in case). Though one fateful day when she was not evening looking for it, while walking along with borders of the Forbidden forest, and she felt the clasp of her studded earring pop off and during her attempt to search the dirt for her missing jewelry, by some miracle there she spotted the little chrysalis, fully undamaged and whole, camouflaging within some fallen leaves. She nearly cried out in overwhelming gratitude, forgetting about her earring entirely. It had found its way to her, and it was clearly a sign, that this was indeed meant for her.

The "sliver teaspoon of dew that has not been touched by sunlight or human feet for seven days". She had almost dreaded this one more than the chrysalis for how would she be able to confirm whether or not sunlight or a human had come into contact with it. One day in the wee hours of the morning, as it approached the date of the next full moon, Akari with her little silver teaspoon in hand went dew hunting. She found a little patch of grass in under the shadow of a great big willow tree that she was relatively certain had yet to be disturbed, and collected it in the spoon.

Then once the lunar cycle came to a close, she spat the chewed up mandrake leaf into a phial, making sure it was angled correctly and in the view of the moon, then plucked one of the hairs from her head, then added both the chrysalis and the dew. Akari made sure it was stored in a safe and dark place and from that day forth repeated the incantation 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus' every single sunrise and sunset without fail. From that point all that was left was to wait for a storm. However she was in luck, it was now the middle of the autumn season and rainy days were rather common and it was only a matter of time before a big storm came rolling in. The second Akari had heard the crack of thunder echoing in the sky she ran with such urgency like never before, and found a quiet spot to one last time recite 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus' before chugging down the potion.

Akari had felt sick, the nausea set in and it began to feel like her world was collapsing inwards. She held onto whatever her hands could find as balance, but it was no use, as she could feel herself changing and morphing into another creature. The fur on her skin rose as she stood there for a few moments disoriented and confused. She looked around frantically and trying to find the nearest place she could look at her reflection. Once she saw herself she stopped dead in her tracks, all the anxiety from the transformation and hoping desperately it would all work out, washing away immediately. She saw herself, a fox, staring back at her. As a young girl Akari loved listening to her father tell her stories, specifically the folklore from back home. Coincidentally, the one she loved the most was the story of the kitsunes, the intelligent shapeshifting fox spirits, known for their trickery, cunningness and mischief. She felt that these stories somehow connected her to her ancestors, her culture and also her father, which made the fox symbol very special and close to her heart.

It was perfect, she would not have it any other way.

Animagus.

Aurora had decided she wanted to become one for three very important reasons. First, her name and the word Animagus started with the same letter. Second, she wanted to troll her stepfather. Not that she hated him. Quite the opposite, actually. As she grew older, she'd grown fond of him. Eventually, she even began to see him as a real father.

And third, she wanted to play with her cat, Lucifur, as a cat. She was desperately hoping she'd turn out to be a cat herself and not some other, less acceptable animal. The picture in her head was so vivid, sleek black fur, elegant tail, Lucifur finally acknowledging her as an equal. Then the image shifted. A cockroach. Lucifur would stare at her with pure, unforgiving disappointment in his adorable little eyes. If she ended up as anything else, she'd sue the Ministry of Magic itself.

The steps to becoming an Animagus were painfully tedious. The ravenclaw had assumed it would be as simple as chanting a spell and calling it a day. Apparently not. That was why she'd missed the opportunity to becoming an Animagus in her fifth year, because she failed over and over again. The mandrake leaf she was supposed to keep tucked inside her mouth from one full moon to the next kept disappearing every single time. So she stole another leaf from the herbology class, then another, and another. Until finally, she did for one full month cycle.
She spat the mandrake leaf into a vial, letting it catch the light of the moon, and added a single strand of her own hair which was easy to obtain. Next came a silvery spoonful of untouched dew, collected painstakingly at dawn when no one was awake.

And finally. The chrysalis of a death's head hawkmoth, retreived by her stepfather who had asked a thousand questions she'd carefully avoided answering. What for? Why so specific? She'd insisted it was for a school project, and of course, he had reluctantly let it go.
She placed the potion inside her trunk and stored it under her bed until.. well, according to the book.. a storm. She wasn't entirely sure what kind of storm that meant, or when it should happen. But until that day arrived, she would chant 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus' every sawn and sunset, pressing her wand to her heart each time.

Then, at last, the electrical storm happened. Was this the storm the book meant? She wasn't sure, but she did it anyway. Potion in hand, she dashed to a secluded spot, pocket mirror on the floor, and chanted "Amato Animo Animato Animagus!" before drinking the foul potion in one gulp.

Please be a cat. Please be a cat. Please be a cat. She begged silently.

A strange tingling sensation crawled over her body. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying not to panic. She opened her mouth to meow, but nothing came out.

Her heart hammering inside, she finally opened her eyes, and froze, staring into her pocket mirror. Her reflection blinked back. A small wide eyed creature she had never seen before. It has soft, brown fur, huge dark eyes, and a long curled tail as if it just came out of a salon. She squeaked. She had no idea what kind of animal this was. Not a cat, that was for sure. DISGUSTING! she squeaked again. Perhaps Lucifur wouldn’t appreciate his new friend.

Animagus Applications and Updates
Name/Year: Piérre Marchonné, 7th

Reapplication Reason: Animagus form change as of the December Event
Following this up in the official Application area since I was unsure if it needed to go through this channel to get approved (under the impression that posting in the event thread was enough to count as the application to change animagus form, but doubling application here to avoid confusion/create papertrail).

Below is the exact "mini-application" posted in that thread (on December 9th). I will find a way to recode this into my encyclopedia if it is approved/was already approved so that it is current. I will not be altering his physical stats/animagus abilities, since I am essentially only shifting his form as a visual flavor change from hummingbird into "magical hummingbird".

New Form: Golden Snidget
Reducio
A very small magical bird stated to be "smaller than 1 inch" in height that is native to Northern Europe. Famous for its role in the early concept of Quidditch, this bird used to be highly prized for a game called "Snidget Hunting", in which the winner received great monetary prizes for their success. However, being a fragile bird, few snidgets survived being caught by the human hand, and thus the species suffered great casualty until wizards initiated efforts to conserve the species from the cruel sport. Until the mid-1900s it was thought that this species had gone entirely extinct, but today their numbers are slowly beginning to climb again.

With its closest parallel to the muggle world being hummingbirds, snidgets possess 360 degree rotatable wing joints that enable them to fly in any direction at great speed and agility--one of the swiftest animals in the wizarding world.

Piérre's distinctive markings in this form would include: emerald green eyes as opposed to the typical red (eye color), burnished bronze feather highlights on its head crest and wings (hair color), and a patch of pale golden feathers on the left side of its face (acid scarring). As snidgets are not as multicoloured/patterned as hummingbirds are, his distinctive features are subtle for what they are and may be difficult to spot while he is in flight, but if caught and observed more closely this animagus form's subtle details are a dead giveaway.

Fifth Year at Tenusa brought along with it an opportunity Kasem would neither take lightly nor ignore. It had been known, at least among his group of friends at the time, that he was aiming to complete the animagus transformation by the end of the year, mostly because of how much he talked about it and how much studying he was doing on the subject. It only got more obvious as his first attempts failed. It had been incredibly difficult, for some reason (the taste for the most part but also how finicky it was to keep the leaf in his mouth constantly), to even get past the first step. At the time he wouldn’t have admitted it even to himself that the problem was mostly taste related though.
Holding a leaf of all things from full moon to full moon, leaving aside that he had to be specific, and it had to be a mandrake leaf at that, seemed to have ended most of his attempts by then. Even now, he remembers the bitterness of that step (both because of the actual leaf, and bitterness towards his own self for not putting up with it better in his first attempts).
The second reason some of his tries failed was the weather, as odd as it would be. On one attempt, where he went as far as to manage to hold the mandrake leaf for a full month, the weather decided to become a problem and start raining when he had to spit the leaf into a phial within view of the moon's rays. That rendered that attempt useless. He had to start over again.
That is how he spent a few months at the beginning of the Fifth Year. At some point, he considered giving up, but if anything, Kasem was always a bit too stubborn, whether that was a great trait to have or not was up for debate; though it did help that he had his professor (and responsible adult) overseeing this as well and encouraging him to keep trying.
Around the spring of his fifth year, after careful preparation, he made another attempt at this. By then, he had jotted down notes with what was needed, kept track of things much better, and decided to time it just about right. Ignore the bitter taste, the instinct to throw up and drool all over, that the leaf was causing, keep it for a month, spit it out in a phial within view of the moon’s rays, and one of the last parts of making this potion, adding a silvered teaspoon of dew that has not been touched by sunlight or human feet (odd last requirement there he thought but regardless) for seven days, the chrysalis of a death's-head hawkmoth and a strand of his own hair (which admitedly was the fastest to get ingredient really). That last step was a piece of cake given how much he struggled on the first thing. It didn’t take much to find a silvered teaspoon, a trip in a kitchen would be enough, the dew would be a bit more complicated sure but it was still doable. Waking up early in the morning (before the sun would even rise since it was best and safest to do it this way), Kasem spent way more time than he would like to admit (though still somehow finishing with some time to spare before the sun would be in the sky) trying to collect the dew from grass and leaves around the school, and carefully avoid even touching it aside from trying to scoop it in the teaspoon (despite that not being among the requirements per se but he wanted to make sure everything was going according to plan for once). He then covered the silver teaspoon carefully and kept it in a drawer to avoid it being even remotely close to sunlight or human feet. He had to figure out how to get a chrysalis of a death’s-head hawkmoth, which thank any deity, they could be found locally for whatever odd reason. Once he finished that step, Kasem was not taking any chances. This time, things were going to go perfectly. They had to.
He kept the potion away from sunlight, making sure it would not be disturbed while he waited out an electrical storm. At that point, really, one had to count on luck, and given his previous attempts at getting this right, a wild guess would be that the weather might ruin this yet again.
Every dawn and sunset, with the tip of the wand pointed at his chest he was repeating “Amato Animo Animato Animagus” almost like a mantra. Over and over again, waiting for the weather to shift enough for all this work to be worth it.
When a storm finally was upon them, he was taking full advantage of it. Finally, so close to succeeding. There was one last step to be done but that would by far be as easy as reciting what he had been for weeks at that point.
He got to an overall secluded spot, being supervised by the professor from a reasonable distance though, pointing the wand over his heart and ennunciating the incantation once more. “Amato Animo Animato Animagus”, drinking the potion afterwards.
For a moment it felt like he was in a vacuum, things around were almost too odd, and he felt slightly dizzy, while it was not beyond normal he wagered, it was still an odd feeling to have. But alas, it was short-lived, he found himself in a completely different body. Or well, changed form.
From the outside it was much more obvious really, his new form was that of a clouded leopard, namely the ones that were local (albeit quite rarely sighted). But that raised another question, why that? In his research, and endless questioning of the professor, Kasem did find out well before even trying to become an animagus that the animal form usually taken would not be something he would “want” exactly as much as something that would represent him, whether those were synonymous or not was another story altogether.
It was not that he hadn’t seen a clouded leopard ever, he went to zoos and sanctuaries, and even likely came across documentaries on them, that was not the point, but maybe, it reflected on him more than it seemed. Those elusive wild cats are timid by nature, shy and prefer to not get involved too much with, well just about anything besides prey given their solitary nature. And maybe while not to that extreme, it was fitting Kasem quite well too. The nocturnal part (of majority of felines) fit like a glove. But that must have not been all, ultimately he must have felt a link to this animal and it was not like there were no other creatures that would prefer the dark and be solitary. And maybe it was as simple as him being more interested in this specific animal, but he didn’t expect that of all things.
Ultimately as time went on, he grew to accept it rather than think too much on that aspect. Now in some aspects, he may be not so much like a clouded leopard anymore, yet magic clearly knew something when that is the form he took.

2. Animal: Clouded leopard (Neofelis Nebulosa)
3. Description: Medium-sized (wild) cat (that for whatever reason despite not being a big cat is part of the subfamily Pantherinae) with “cloud-like” coat markings (thus the name as well). Tawny fur with dark-edged rosettes, with a tail almost as long as its body (they are highly arboreal). At about 22 inches (or 55cm) in height (measured at the shoulders), with a body length of about 43 inches (or 108cm), and quite a stocky build it is meant for the tree life.

4. Distinctive Marking: The very tip of his tail about two inches of it is stark white, completely devoid of any black rings or markings. (While white tips in leopard tails are common - namely though the underpart of the tail closer to the tip yes (didn’t see it as much in clouded leopards though), in this case it would be with no markings, almost too “clear lined” to be “natural”.

Becoming an Animagus had been her goal ever since she learned about their existence. Dedicating herself to Transfiguration, joining an Animagus club, doing more research, and dreaming about her Animagus form...she should have done it in her 5th year, but somehow she just postponed it again and again. Now 7th year was around the corner sooner than she thought, and Lindsey knew that it had become a now-or-never.

Professor Alarie had graciously accepted her request to oversee her progress. She couldn't afford to fail. Her pride stopped her from asking twice. (She was a 7th year already! Quite a few 5th years succeeded.) The day when the full moon shone upon Hogwarts, she had the mandrake leaf plucked from Herbology class in her sweaty palm, took a deep breath, and tucked it into her mouth. Full moon to full moon. She could pull it through.

Lindsey had the longest month of her life. Good thing, she wasn't socialising much these days, but the occasional mumblings and mutterings were still painful. Collecting other materials needed for the potion made the process slightly more interesting. One of her hairs--easy enough, she guessed she'd pluck it when the day came; the chrysalis of a death's-head hawkmoth--her big brother was more than happy to help retrieve it for her, and sent the package soon enough; and a silvered teaspoon of dew that has not been touched by sunlight or human feet for seven days.

Counting down the days, she rose early one week before the next full moon, slipping out of the castle while it was still in its silent slumber. The sun wasn't up yet--she tiptoed across the grounds, heading straight towards the forest around the Great Lake with a little silvered teaspoon clutched in her left hand, also courtesy of her brother. The surroundings lay dim. She wandered around the periphery of the woods several times before finally settling on a rather large thicket. Spider webs hanging between the branches remained perfectly intact, and the damp earth nearby had no footprint marks on it. She collected pure dew from the very bottom of the leaves, careful enough not to spill a single drop on her way back to her dormitory. She had prepared a large wooden box on her desk a few days earlier. She put the spoon into it, steadying it gently so as not to let it spill out, and closed the lid. Seven days left.

Thankfully, she made it. She might have been out a little too early, sitting out on the grounds long before sunset. The walk from her dorm to the grounds carrying the wooden box was torture; she had to keep it steady at all times, praying nothing inside would spill. Thoughtfully staring at the sky, eventually, the full moon was out. Lindsey raised the phial up to catch the moon's rays. She spat the mandrake leaf into it, making sure it was tenderly bathed by moonlight, then plucked a strand of her own hair and dropped it in as well. She then carefully opened the box. Thank Merlin, the dew remained there, with no damp stains on the sides either. She carefully poured the spoonful of dew into the mixture before placing the death's-head hawkmoth's chrysalis inside the vial. Potion done. She was halfway to success.

She carefully carried it back and placed the potion under her bunk, the dusty, dark corner where sunlight wouldn’t shed. It should be safe and sound down there. Now an electrical storm was all she needed.

Ever since she obtained a healthy way of life. Getting up at dawn, and retiring much earlier for adequate sleep. It had become a ritual: every dawn and every sunset, she would draw out her beech wood wand, the tip of it carefully placed over her heart, as she muttered the magical incantation "Amato Animo Animato Animagus." She would chant, praying for the electrical storm to arrive.

And eventually, it came.

She was overjoyed when heavy rain poured down that morning, impatiently circling in the common room. When lightning struck, she rushed back to her dorm, grabbed the vial, and ran as fast as she could to the farthest yonder of the grounds. Time to go. She pointed her wand tip at her heart, recited "Amato Animo Animato Animagus." for one last time, and swallowed down the potion. Please.

The whole feeling was weird, but something was indeed happening. Everything in her body shifted, and she felt lighter, smaller, strangely vulnerable. Yet she was also...flapping something? She lifted off the ground and flew toward the sky, eventually stopping near the Great Lake. With sharpened eyesight she saw her own reflection clearly, and--oh, it couldn't be wrong. She had seen those colourful but controlled little birds near her home in Yorkshire, the bright orange and electric blue all combined in one, patiently observing their surroundings and decisively hovering down as soon as they spotted their prey.

A kingfisher. She guessed that suited her, really.

1. Wizard Name: Lindsey Florence Evanthe Springhall
2. Animal: Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis)
3. Description: A common kingfisher is a small, colourful bird that can be seen perched near the water. Most of her feathers are blue, including her head, back, tail, and wings. She has a white throat, an orange breast, and orange legs. As a female, the lower part of her beak is reddish brown.

4. Distinctive Marking: While a common kingfisher usually has white patches on the neck, Lindsey's are a golden-brown colour, matching her hair. Her eyes are also of a warmer and lighter chocolate brown than a common kingfisher's normal dark eyes, reflecting her human form.

Animagus Form
Size: Very Small (2)
Skills: Flight (2) | Bite (1)
Stats: Stamina 4 | Wisdom 8 | Strength 1 | Accuracy 12 | Evasion 10
Explanation: Common Kingfishers are small birds ranging only 16-17cm from bill-tip to tail-tip and weighing 34-46g. The wingspan is usually 24-26cm. They are known as intelligent birds that fly fast (up to 25 miles per hour), darting from their perch to catch fish when they've found them. Thus, I picked high accuracy, evasion, and wisdom. Their bills are their primary weapon to strike fish, usually long, thick, and straight, which is why I chose bite as her skill. Although kingfishers hunt their prey underwater, they spend most of their time above the water scanning for their prey underneath, and only dive about 10-30 cm deep and stay 1-2 seconds underwater. If unsuccessful, they return to their perch or hover above. Hence, I did not pick the aquatic skill.

It came as no surprise to anyone that Anthonie had chosen to pursue the speciality of Animagus. Or perhaps quite the opposite. It was unexpected that he chose to follow in the footsteps of his family members before him.

Maybe he too, even in his seventh year, was just a child, who inside his heart, wanted to prance in the safari whimsically with his family too.

The process was one aided by his headmaster, a man whom Anthonie offered a great deal of respect to. Then, he did not yet know that one day, he would step into his shoes.

The process began with Anthonie placing a mandrake leaf onto his tongue from full moon to full moon. It was tedious, and twice, midway through, his headmaster had instructed him to give up and try to next month. The forecast had predicted he would see no rays of the moon. The fog of Uagadou was unrelenting, and the mountains shrouded in mist. Ironic, for a school so well known for their animagus specialities. Eye roll after eye roll, he found his patience waning. Anthonie did not want to be bound by the human constraints of speed and territory — he was eager to discover his animal.

It was finally in the third month that, under the rays of the moon, he spat his mandrake leaf into a phial. For the refined Anthonie, it was more than mildly disgusting.

He then plucked a few strands of his own hair, added the dew he had collected, as well as the chrysalis he had found. With Uagadou’s surrounding areas being as humid as they were, dew was easy to collect off leaves, and with the sunlight so rare amongst the densest of the forests, it was attainable. The chrysalis too, although Anthonie had to of a bit more hiking for that. His instincts as a Quidditch seeker had helped the locating though.

Thankfully, being one of the most common lightning hotspots in the world, electrical storms were but a common occurrence in the mountains of Uganda. Anthonie only needed to keep the vial in a rarely visited storeroom for a bare afternoon before the first signs of thunder rumbled in the distance. Already into his third month, a smile soon crossed his face. He had only needed to repeat the incantation once before then, the tip of his wand placed over his heart.

As the storm hit that night, Anthonie found a room to himself. It was in that room that he recited “amato amino animato animagus” one last time, before drinking the potion in one gulp. The idea that it contained his own hair and the chrysalis of an insect made him want to heave it up, yet he had both enough dignity and determination to keep it down.

As his body morphed, he did not become the lion he had expected, but a creature he was not quite hoping for, yet did not quite hold anything against.

A springbok.

He just reminded himself to stray clear of the safaris with hunters, and not become game on someone’s plate the next day.

Explanation: A springbok is smaller than a human, usually the size of a larger dog. It cannot do/does not have any of the skills listed. Being prey, it is very good at evasion, and has good senses and perception for predators (hence high evasion and wisdom). It is alright at accuracy, but since makes little attacks, it is not prominent. It can run from prolonged periods, but its stamina is also not exceptional. Its strength is very undeveloped as it rarely fights.

Malaika has always been fascinated by ocelots, for as long as she can remember. In the rainforests found in and around her home country, encounters were rare but possible, and more than once in her trips alongside herbologists and magizoologists she had seen those felines from afar, admiring in awe.

It was only natural, then, once her heart was set on becoming an animagus, that this powerful animal was on her mind. The ritual was long, and tedious. It implied placing a mandrake leaf in her mouth from full moon to full moon, one she almost choked on more than once. She then proceeded to spit it in a crystal phial under a full moon. The first time, she stumbled on a root while going back, and her loot was lost in the tumultuous waters of a nearby river.

The next part of the process included a strand of her own hair, which wasn't hard to come by, and a silvered teaspoon of dew untouched by sunlight or feet for seven days. That one was more tedious, and Malaika resulted to waiting outside all night, staring at a tall plant in her garden, waiting for the dew to form itself. She fell asleep more than once, and was woken up by a worried pedestrian who thought she had passed out. Unable to explain she was just waiting to collect dew, she followed him to the nearby hospital, frustrated by her inability to sustain a sleepless night. The next day she repeated the process, collected the dew and kept it safe in a jar for seven days. Death's head hawkmoth were commonly found in her houses, so it was no hassle to collect their chrysalis.

Waiting for an electrical storm was one of the most challenging part of the process. It appeared to last years, years during which at every dawn and sunset, she had to stand, aim the tip of her wand at her heart, and repeat "Amato, Animo, Animato, Animagus". More than once she almost forgot, and immediately rushed to accomplish it, terrified of ruining her progress. The days were long, stretching on without end, until finally, one day she woke up in the middle of the night by a powerful lightning strike.

She jumped out of bed, rushing to the dark and quiet place where the potion had been kept, and took a second to calm herself, the rumble of the storm still crashing on around the house. Stilling the frantic beating of her heart, and took the vial in a shaking had, closed her eyes, and recited "Amato, Animo, Animato, Animagus" one last time before gulping it down.

An immediate nausea invaded her, and she caught herself on the counter, trying not to give back to the world the precious content of the potion. She felt herself shrink down, fur covering her body as she slowly morphed into her animagus form. Once it was finished, it was perhaps the most bizarre sensation she had ever endured. She could see she was a feline, but unable to see anything other than her paws, she could not confirm what her heart jumped to conclude — until she rushed back upstairs, unused to her new legs and almost falling down the stairs, and finally reached the mirror. An ocelot stared back at her.

As a child, Nadira was always fascinated with animals of all species. Growing up she loved to see them out in the wild when her and her family would be out hiking trails. When she attended Uagadou the magical creatures there also quickly caught her attention as well as the mundane animals that called the mountains their home. One such creature that stood out to her was the leopards. She loved their somewhat regal nature with how they walked, the rosettes on their coats, she even was fascinated at how they seemed to just blend in with nature because of it. During her free time one day, she decided to take a break from studying for her classes and do a little side research about the animals in the area surrounding the mountains that the school resided. It was then that she discovered the beautiful and rare black leopard. She was fascinated by the sleek dark coat and their stealthy nature. This discovery stuck in her mind as a few years later when she was able to apply for an animagus she knew no animal would be for her other than that of the black leopard.

Under the mentorship of the school's transfiguration professor, Nadira began the long process of gaining an animagus form. The first step required Nadira to place a mandrake leaf in her mouth on a full moon night and keep it there until the next full moon. This was a most unpleasant process, the leaf itself making it hard to enjoy her meals with its taste as well as her trying her best not to swallow it or choke on it in the meantime. The days leading up to the next full moon had been full of dark clouds and rain. Luckily the day of the full moon the clouds had departed the sky and she was left with a clear sky, which she was eternally grateful for so she would not have to restart the process. In a little grassy area away from the main area where students would gather, Nadira sat under the full moon and carefully spit the mandrake leaf into one of her crystal phials she had brought with her.

After that, under the shimmering light of the full moon, she added in a short strand of her hair, a teaspoon amount of dew and a chrysalis of a Death's-Head Hawmoth. While the piece of her hair was an easy step, attaining the dew and chrysalis was not such an easy task. The dew itself she had obtained after many nearly sleepless nights from a patch of grass out away from where anyone wandered to during their free time. She would drift in and out of sleep throughout the night just to be able to gather the dew before the sun would rise until she managed to fill the silvered teaspoon. The chrysalis was not as complicated but still a challenge. Nadira would often help out in the fields where they grew the food for the school and knew she had a chance of finding one out there. Of course, everywhere she looked she couldn't find one. It took a few days of tending the crops to be able to finally spot a lone chrysalis.

With the first steps completed there was only a few to go. Nadira stored her phial away from everyone in her trunk in her bedroom where she knew it would remain in safe in the dark and undisturbed. Every dawn and dusk from then on she would point her wand over her heart and repeat the spell's incantation, "Amato Animo Animato Animagus" until one night when as she began heading back to her dorm room she finally heard the unmistakable sound of thunder cracking outside the caverns.

Nadira quickly returned to her room, got the potion from the trunk and returned to the solitary area of grass she was becoming well accustomed to. As the rain poured in the distance and was heading her way, Nadira was quick but careful to get the ritual done before she was rained out and while the lightning was still lighting up the sky. In the midst of the loud cracks of thunder and bolts of lighting across the sky, Nadira spoke the incantation once more, "Amato Animo Animato Animagus" and drank the potion. The long process finally coming to an end.
