Koko wrinkled her nose at the stench radiating throughout the dungeons - it wasn't that she'd not expected such a smell, but she still felt as if the moist air was clinging to her. It reminded her why the dungeons was her least favourite spot to patrol, but maybe she would know where things were... if only she had more light than the small orb illuminating the tip of her sister's wand, which admittedly wasn't that much.

Still, though, it was enough to grant her the vision to see chalky powder in a corridor nearby. As Koko worriedly glanced around her, she noted that there were chairs, too - was someone living down here? Was that allowed? Was that even legal?

She didn't think so.

When Sapphire's quiet voice broke through her worries, Koko glanced back at her sister. Right. She had seen something, technically. "Well, I don't know if you've seen this, but there's... this trail of... powder? Chalk? Something like that... It's over there." The prefect gestured vaguely with an ungraceful flap of her hand before drawing it back to her body. She just wanted to fold in on herself, honestly. This didn't seem right, not at all.

But she was here. What else could she do, then, than just be as helpful as she could to those she cared about?

Room 1
Bridget was right, those shadows were moving too much. They were moving of their own accord even. She could have stayed, remained at Jack and Flash's side, but she would choose not to. The dangerous movements of the darkness suggested only one thing to the girl -- that she needed to move onward. That staying was not in her best interest. A truth for most Slytherins was -- they would move in a manner that would best suit them. For her, it was to move deeper, to find the peril. Her reasoning, still unknown. [Moved to Room 2]

Evelyn would crouch alongside the displaced bricks along the seam of the floor. Large bricks, each adjacent to the other which lacked mortar. The ground scuffed, lateral scrape markings indicated that the bricks were moved and removed laterally and that this had been done a number of times before. Eve would inspect the bricks and attempt to determine if anything was wrong.
Eve observes the bricks.
DC: 15
Roll: 11 (+10) Success
She would assess the bricks and she would notice something suspicious. A human hair, a singular and long, feminine, blonde strand of hair that seemed almost silvery in the ambient light. It was left taut, a shift of stone and the single strand of hair would *snap*. A close eye and she would notice that the distal strand would be adhered to the ceiling of a small, hidden space. She would not see anything attached. Just a hair.

No trap, no reason (or qualifier) preventing her next action. She would grip one of the large rectangular pieces of stone in her hands. Henry Llewellyn, a fellow Slytherin would join her. He had noticed something amiss regarding the stones also; how they did not seem to be 'quite right.' Her uncanny observation skills coupled with his own as well as a pair of hands to make less work of it all, a temporary alliance might be forged. The dungeons was a strange place to meet new people, make new friends or at the very least partners. Speaking of partners, Henry Knight would stand over Henry Llewellyn - Making H2 as far as the narration was concerned. His wand would provide the duo with ample light as they crouched on the dusty cobweb covered floor.
Henry L. observes the bricks.
DC: 15
Roll: 1 (critical failure)
Henry would see something else, a glint. There was something inside. It was a trap! [Feel free to recoil or warn Eve against removing the stone.] False visions might give way to panic, but it was nothing but a trick of the light. Henry would fumble, failing to help the girl remove the stone immediately adjacent to the one the girl had freed [Due to crit. failure].
Eve moves the stone. Strength.
DC: 10
Roll: 11 Success

A little bit of brawn and Eve would remove one of the four stones. A faint light would filter in, the small narrow space would resemble a casket. It lacked for the satin comforts of a forever home, but it was long enough for her or one of her classmates to lay. Moreover, there were lengths of cloth, they appeared to be towels that were crudely stitched together to make what would resemble a shroud or perhaps a blanket. A shallow dish, made of copper with a handle had a puddle of white, cooled wax. There was nothing else inside this small, lonesome space that would send most people into a panic if they had sealed themselves inside.

What could one possibly fear so much that this became preferable.
Eve --
KEEN EYE — There is a 25% chance of automatically finding something.
Roll: 97 Failed
She would notice nothing else (yet).

Henry Knight, resident werewolf could smell blood in the air. With a deep, moist sniff, Henry would smell something else. More blood. So much more blood. Yet the space was clean, not drenched as it should be. It was the sort of smell that would kick his own primal senses into overdrive but there was something else also.
Henry sniffs.
DC: 20
Roll: 20 Critical Success
Human. Yes, that was the smell! This crawl space was well used and lived in. They had come upon someone's hidey hole. Someone's narrow, pitiful dwelling. The scent was distinct and heavy with the scent of filth, yes an apparent lack of hygiene (sorry Kaegen but you know it is true) as well as blood and... a new smell. Something coarse and caustic. It would take a few seconds but then he would recognize it vaguely, not exactly what but a where. He had smelled it before in the potions room. It was something that smelled like that here!

Percival Gray would meander back up the stairs to meet up with his dormmates. While sentiment might not be a strength for any of these young men, there was if nothing else instinct which in this case demanded unity despite their childish squabbles. Things were simply too queer down here, it was dangerous and he should not go further alone. His emotional support first year [Mathias] had abandoned him for help that they would eventually need. Percival would not pursue, rather he would seek out a firmer alliance between himself and Burnett.

Ileen Knight would choose safety in numbers. Cooperative efforts might yield additional information also. It was simply in the girl's best interest. She had a liking for Burnett who as she so succinctly put it -- 'attracted people' with an undefined charisma as well as Holmwood, a well-liked boy that shared Jack's dorm. they had gotten a reputation of sorts for themselves, even if it was speculation and conjecture primarily.

Ileen would wave her wand and state the word of power necessary - Revelio.
Ileen casts Revelio.
Roll: 16
She had focused on the chair. so much attention placed on a singular inanimate object that appeared to be nothing more than a simple chair. One would have to be mad to find anything wrong with this chair. Mad indeed. The cast of Revelio was successful, but it was perhaps stranger that no new information was revealed. The chair and the sign gave warning, yet she would find no discernable cause.

Enamored with the oddity of this mystery, the Snape dorm plus a few from related dorms that shared the same house would hardly notice Michael Miller's arrival. The boy was stalking (semi-effectively) his almost boyfriend Percival Rainwood. 'Almost' because only Michael knew that they were a couple. What better place to spend the day with his paramour than a creepy basement where murder abounds? Well, a creepy basement with appreciably less murder but the murder was the bloody surprise in this case.

Percival would be looking upward when Michael arrived. His beautiful angular chin looked even sharper, like it could cut a pair of lips under the romantic glow of wandlight. How the light played with his eyes and made them sparkle with the brilliance of a thousand gentle moons.
Percival looks up (observation)
Roll: 2
Percival would find nothing hanging precariously above him. No new evidence, just cobwebs and stone.

Do nothing more Percival, you are perfect just the way you are.

Opeila would walk past the crowd that was investigating the hidey hole and the chair. She would move on, catch up to Flash. [Moves to Room 2]

It was simply a strange scene to walk in upon. Dmitri, the Dueling Captain for Slytherin was one of the most accomplished casters of his year. He was a stand out from his cohorts, dragging large bricks from the floor to investigate some hole. Others closely observing a chair with more attention than the seat deserved. Hopefully that was not the 'cool' thing the underclassmen mentioned. Jack was just being odd, Percival was staring at the ceiling. His peers were milling about in this darkened hall. Perhaps a spell was cast on them. Likely served them right. Were any of them his duelists? If not, did it truly matter?

Dmitri would add to this strange scene. His shoes, yes the ones on his feet would be turned into birds...
Dmitri cast avifors.
Roll: 5 (+11)
Dmitri would cast the spell with ease. His shoes would indeed turn into flapping, squaking birds. His feet on the unfortunate creatures (last time I did this the player's feet were inside, take them off!). Presuming he did not share in Palmer's foot fetish, one could presume that he was wearing socks, a barrier between his tender feet and the grimy dungeon floor.

The birds were for all intents and purposes birds. Dmitri was not able to communicate to them, command them to fly left or right. To go deeper into the dungeon or to return to the common rooms. But the two birds, once freed (presuming you lifted you foot so that they might fly) would take flight and with a clumsy panic dart into room 2. [Dmitri remains in area 1 but the birds have moved on to area 2]
Room 2
Sapphire would look about the room.
Sapphire observes.
Sapphire: 18
There was not much else to be seen that had not been seen already. The strange eye-fixated drawings on the walls. The markings above the doors and passageways. The passage in front of them had no door and the trail of salty would curlique into the room ahead. A pair of girls would wander in there. To the right a door marked with home, no lock and apparently welcoming to guests. A duo would rush on in there. Then the third, to the left, which was locked and fortified. That door would gardner a small group's attention. There were discarded bottles, many empty, a few broken and still moe filled with various and strange paraphernalia. This was the scene of something or someone disturbed or deranged.

Speaking of 'disturbed.' Selim did not care for the light, it was far too bright. The brightness seared his eyes and assailed his moonbathed skin. He would retreat laterally, to the right into the safety of the inky blackness. The anonymity that the darkness offered him, the door slightly ajar. The door would feel weighty in his hand as he flung the door open and darted into the room.

Piper would follow the odd, pallid boy. Perhaps there was a... je ne sais quoi(I do not know what) about him like kaegen that attracted the girls against a sane person's better judgement. Not that it mattered, Piper would follow and [strike[Kaegen[/strike] Selim would not escape.

Dan, the most social would decide to make nice with the boy that was the least social. He would hurry on after the two of them and stand at the doorway, only the door would slam shut in front of him. (I am sorry, why did you not go in!) Dan was alone again, Selim (probably) did not answer the social boy. Dan would not hear the door lock, but he would hear a sharp THUD on the other side of the door. There might have also been some screaming. Yes, there might have been.

Dan would know who entered -- a girl and Selim. He would cast the wand lighting spell.
Dan casts Lumos.
Roll: 4 (+8)
The tip of his wand would start to illuminate. Even if nobody would help him, he would not be left in the dark. The only question was -- would he help them?

Koko Riddle did not move with the same haste. She would look about her person. There were a lot of students in this room, some had decided to leave or return from whence they came (Percival and Mathias) while others moved onward (Selim, Piper, Starlee and Cassandra). Slytherins were not known for working together as a singular unit, each went where it suited them best. Where suited her best?
Koko observation.
Roll: 18 (+9)
Of the three rooms adjacent plus the stairwell she came from she would notice that the right door was left ajar. The darkness would swallow Selim almost instantly and the door would slam shut, leaving a barefooted boy facing the door a centimeter from his nose. The passageway before her (the center) had no door and an obvious trail of powder that snaked into the unknown passage. Something glowed in there, not obviously but there was a source of faint light besides the bright illumination afforded by their (many) wands. The third appeared the most secure -- a locked, fortified door.

Bridget would enter the room shared by many others. The long flight of stairs would terminate in this very populated room (she came from Room 1). She would watch the shadows as she moved onward. She knew the history of the darkness and the terrible potential of the living night. It was a foolish and dangerous endeavor to move on, yet here she was knowing better but doing the same. Perhaps she was the mad one here, not Kaegen.
Bridget's observation of the shadows.
DC: 20
Roll:6 (+9)
She would not notice any changes, just the same strange shadows that did not sit well with the little girl. She would have to keep watching them...

Starlee and Cassandra would eye the trail. Starlee would pinch some of the strange, grainy substance between her fingers and roll it back and forth between her finger pads. They appeared to be coarse, white crystals. How strange. It, the path that is of this very same white substance would bisect the room they were standing in and then crudely enter the next space. They should follow the trail -- the duo would leave the presently populous room and wander into the next. [Moved to Room 3]

Alexander would choose the path less traveled. The door that someone obviously did not want anyone to enter, Alex included. He would be the first to pay this door any particular heed but his interest would soon attract others. First, he would instruct Flash to back him up, to essentially cover him. Something could go wrong, despite having a limited memory the few things he could remember involved fear and a need to remain prepared.
Alexander casts Alohomora
DC: 12
Roll: 13 (+8)
Contested Check (Kaegen) 11 (+3)
Contested Check (Alex) 8 (+6)
Just barely, the spell was successful. Alex would hear the tumblers roll and the door unlock. That was the easy part. The hard part was whatever was hidden on the other side. He would hear a rattling as the door opened. A dim light from the residual Lumos in the shared room would reveal row after row of bottles.

Image posted by the member

An overturned milk crate here and there would break up the monotony. Some, not all of the bottles were filled with an unknown liquid. opening the door would cause a duo to slosh and tip but they would find their equilibrium and find their grounding.

The milk crates were evenly spaced apart down the center-ish part of the room. The first about two feet away from the door, the next three feet further and this pattern would repeat over and over again. Sarah's wand would provide them with the information of the scene that they truly needed. This was not a room pre-say but rather a long hallway, it extended about 30 feet, a crate about every 10. [Note: will allow repetitive actions considering the length of this]

Nothing would assail the duo, yet at least. The hall was clear of enemies. Flash would cast a different spell -- Revelio. Clever boy, good choice.
Flash cast Revelio.
DC: 13
Roll: 3 (+10)
A flash of light, the boy would see something. The words did not shine with a light of their own but he would find a hidden message. What did it mean? It would be something he was at least vaguely familiar with if he had paid attention. He actually knew this!

Opeila would find Flash in room 2, both Holmwood and an older boy would be looking into the dark room. A girl with green hair standing behind them. The light from her wand the cause of most of this adjacent room's illumination. Well, once again room was a strong word for it, more like passageway.

As the poor girl attempted to spy what might be going on, she would be attacked from behind. A pair of birds would fly in from the stairs, one of the birds would fly in Opeila's direction and the other in Bridget's direction.
Opeila dodge bird.
Attack 19 (+11)
Evasion 17 (+6)
Bridget dodge bird.
Attack 11 (+11)
Evasion 9 (+9)
The birds would crash into the two girls, screaming and squealing as they did so. The newly birthed birds would find themselves tangled in the girl's hair. Frenzied they would struggle, tugging at the girl's tresses and pecking at their scalps to be free. As Bridget reacts to the avian assault, she would look up, indeed the same place Percival was looking a room adjacent. She would notice up there that there were shadows that had no master.

Illowy would bear witness to the scene, she would not intervene (because her turn was already used up but there is always next round). She was attempting to learn something but all she would find was refuse. A trio of doors that led to places unknown and the markings above it. She would attempt to determine if there was some sort of psychology behind it all. Was the person or people living down here trying to outwit, trying to hide, or something else entirely. The pictures seemed to have a fixation on the eyes. They were odd, always watching. The passageways were marked. There was a great deal of garbage.

Her mind was an incredible asset, she might be on the right path. Think like a crazy person.
Illowy observes.
Roll: 1 (Critical failure)
But she would see nothing more.
Room 3
Starlee and Cassandra would enter the next room. Cassanda had Lumos but she also had claustrophobia. The fact that they were exploring unfamiliar and unknown corridors where anything can happen. Just not yet thankfully.

This room was unlike the others, it was actually clean less the trail that they followed. In the center of the room there was a round... well? Yes, well. The sort of thing one would lower a bucket into for the sake of drawing water. Only, that was not the case here. No, there was a light coming from the well. A warm orange glow. There was also no rope, no pulley, and no bucket. One does not collect light from a well. The trail would end at the 'well.'

What would they do here? Would they move onward, the room would empty into a hall that was beyond the penumbra of light so they would not be able to make out what was down there. Or they could stay here, within screaming distance of their peers. Near this warm glow. If they peered inside they would see a white bottom with what appeared to be stones etched in charcoal grey.

Image posted by the member

A light would seem to come through it. It was too deep for them to reach with a hand, being about 3 feet from the lip of the well. the well was not filled with water, it was dry. Around the well there would be curiosities. Chalk markings on the walls, tallies and stick figures. Many stick figures and many of them had letters beneath them, some were circled and others had a great X over them. One with A.V. written below had both a circle and an X for instance. There was a great arrow pointing back the way that they came.

The floor was littered with oddities. A rusted nail the length of ones forearm, there was a circle around it. The word TRUTH written next to it. Empty bottles. A large ball of sludge that resembled an oversize hunk of snot in the corner of the room in a sickly yellow-grey color.
Room 4
The room offered Selim nothing, it was as dark as pitch less a thin stream of light through an open door that caused shadows to play.all less Selim's own that remained absent. In the darkness, free of distraction but not fear or paranoia, his ears would hear movement. A small scraping that came from the heart of the room. A familiar, pungent, decaying scent would meet his nares.

Circling the room, his hand brushing against the cool, uneven stone, Selim would find himself a corner after following a seemingly endless curve (topmost left corner of room 4). He would mutter, well babble really to himself.

A girl (Piper) would follow the pallid, corpse-like child into the room. Her hand would mute the warm glow of her wand tip. The boy's sanctuary was invaded, but more importantly the light cast by her Lumos charm would illuminate the space. Home Sweet Home was the home for something. As her light assailed Selim's eyes, another noise could be heard. A scratching. A squeaking.
Evasion Checks.
DC: 17

Everything was already set into motion before the poor girl had arrived. This ratcheting noise from above. If she looked behind her she would see it, a crude gear-like hunk of wood that looked like it was bit into shape rather than cut with human tools would turn and with a dull thud once... twice... thrice... four times a heavy leaden weight would press against the door. On the fourth click or rather thud the door would close. A large bust, it would appear a bust that was liberated from a place the girl had never seen before now rested its' weary head on the back of the door.

Their means of egress was eliminated. They would need to call for help or explore further. Nothing terrible.

No, that would be another dungeon crawl.

Remember that scritching? That squeaking from above?

A large net filled with agitated, hungry rats would rain down on the two of them.

Pitch black, relieving his eyes, ears perked and tension high. Selim circled around the room, unable to find the door at that moment. Alas, his second of rest was broken by a girl following him, her light invading him once more. He let out a growl, soon interrupted by the slamming of the door, then the sound of something snapping, rats falling. They weren't really subtle projectiles, and he swiftly evaded them as his instinct jerked him around like a puppet on strings.

From the sound of the rats hitting a target, he assumed the girl hadn't been so lucky.

Nostrils flaring he inhaled the scent of something... familiar. Rot. Yes, he was all too familiar with that smell, usually accompanied by the sound of crying children.

He hissed, pupils narrowing. He was tempted, oh so tempted, to hit the girl with an attack while she was being mauled. He had his steel needles with him, he knew where to hit, how to swiftly snuff out her life.

But no, no he couldn't, the blood, he was sure it'd attract something. Though that may be a positive for him, she'd get mauled, attacked by some being he knew lurked the dark dungeons, he'd no longer have a misguided purser... but if he got blood on himself it would also attract that something.

No, he'd let the rats deal with her.

"A good plan, yes, but you should run now, escape while she's distracted." Aku whispered in his mindscape, he nodded in agreement. Hand still resting on the wall, and assuming no rat lunged at him and that he didn't trip on something, he'd follow the straighter path away from the door to the next room, he had no intents of going back anyways.

(Unless the door is locked)

Stepping into his new sanctuary, he remained near the wall. Now knowing that traps were hiding, he was more cautious, using the senses he could to avoid tripwires or the such. Quickly moving away from the entrance in case, say, a log slammed into the wall near it, he paused.

His evasive skills were holding up so far, but how long would it be until his exhaustion took the reigns?

His amber eyes scanned the (assumed) blackness around him. Still, he didn't bother to light his wand. Shadows were what cloaked him from the things that sensed heat and light, if he used Lumos, it would basically be a beacon for whatever lurked.

That was his reasoning, whether or not it was flawed he wouldn't know, he was sluggish these days.

While his peers may have noticed the moving shadows and been unnerved by them, Selim wouldn't follow such a reaction. As said before, he was used to moving shadows.

Sounds echoed around him, who knows if they were real ones or not though. It was hard for one to rely on their senses if their senses regularity betrayed them. His sense of touch was his only guide, his sense of smell, while likely more focused on due to him being virtually blind and rarely relying on hearing, was not that of a wolve's. He had a normal human sense of smell, despite how much he may look and act like a dhampir.

For a moment he rested, his stamina rather dismal due to his insomnia.

A low growl as he spoke to the voice only he heard.

"If she followed us, I'm killing her and sacrificing her to whatever beast roams this pit." His tone was full of steady truth, not one iota of bravo reflected in how his amber eyes narrowed to that of serpentine slits full of the murderous intent of a preditor.

A dark chuckle echoed in his head, "Perhaps we can use her as bait, and then study the creature for ourselves once it's lured out, if such a thing exists."

A moment of consideration, before the raven hissed out venomously, "No... not tonight, perhaps another night but at the moment, I just want peace and quiet. At this point, I'll do anything to get just that as well."

Permission Given To godmode Henry Llewellyn slightly
Mentioning: @Evelynn Decipio | @Kaegen Deathmote | @Dmitri Jones
Shining his wand at the two, Henry watched as both the unknown girl and Henry Llewellyn examined the bricks. Giving the two the light as the twelve year old let his eyes linger past them on the look for any presence of danger, it was Hogwarts after all and the walls within the castle at times seemed to be anything but safe.

However the only strange or most threatening thing that Henry saw was his own dueling captain; Dmitri Jones. The fourth year sent chills down the second years spine mainly since the captain in the boy's opinion was quite strange if not a bit strict, cruel, and dare he may say hot headed. Hot headedness was definitely a word that Henry would use to describe his captain mainly because of his obsession with winning the dueling cup. Henry hadn't decided if he was more afraid of his captain during dueling practices or after he lost his second stage duel, no matter the boy definitely had some fear about his dueling captain.

Pushing past his thoughts as he watched his dueling captain draw his wand but before the second year could see anymore something would throw the boy off. Not a sight but rather a smell.

The young werewolf focused his mind as he sniffed the dungeon to find the smell of blood again but not just a little bit like he thought. Lots of it. And possibly fresh to.

Panicked which only fueled his anxiety stayed to swell in the twelve year old as he wondered if he and the others Slytherin's plus Henry Llewellyn and the gryffindor girl were walking into a massacre.

Trying to focus on the scents of the room, the boy took a deep breath before closing his eyes and relying on his sense of smell.

Blood... more blood... bloody hell what if their are loads who are dead? Dead students at Hogwarts? What would happen to the school... would it be close down... would the dead be hidden away from the public? Bloody hell... bloody hell...

Relax... there has to be more scents here then blood... relax... but how? How could I relax with the knowledge that everyone here could be walking into on a massacre and worst end up dead as well! Relax this is Hogwarts, the safest place on earth... right.... and the professors won't allow a student to die on the grounds... right... hopefully not... wait where are the professor? If there's none here and only students doesn't that increase the chances of dying and the school covering it up! Relax Henry! Your not going to die! Your not! You can't...

The second year took a few more breaths before focusing his mind and sniffing for scents again.

Blood... more blood... but also something else... a scent... a scent that's human! But not a human scent that I remembered? A different one from the others.... one that is filthy actually and smells like this place.... wait could this be someone's home? But who? Someone who isn't suppose to be at Hogwarts or a student? Has a student been hiding here or perhaps living here? But why?

Wait... there's something else...

Something familiar... but what is it... odd... damp.. strange... musty.... smells like something in the potions classroom... but what? Doesn't matter if their is life down here and blood they could be alive right? And possibly injured? They need help... and I should help them? Me a nerd with anxiety problems that couldn't lift a weight? Shouldn't someone older, larger, and possibly stronger be the one? Should I tell someone... but who to trust? Henry Llewellyn of course I can trust me but the others?

Slytherin's.... and their no the most forthcoming group are they? Possibly I shouldn't but what can I do... something is better than nothing and if their is a injured student here then I'm going to help them... hopefully... bloody hell what would Arthur say about now?

Eyes back toward Henry Llewellyn and the girl now starring at a coffin size opening in the bricks. So there was something there, slightly wondering if they should investigate but then remembering someone could be possibly injured in those dungeons. Henry would get close to Henry Llewellyn and whisper nearly silently in his ear so the other girl couldn't hear him, "there's a strong smell of blood and a human. One that isn't here or possibly a slytherin, I think they were living here or hiding here," Henry would nod at his friend before remembering how the ravenclaw didn't know he was a werewolf yet but Henry promised himself that he will tell Henry Llewellyn as soon as they were out of their and others who could eavesdrop.

Continuing whispering low into the Henry Llewellyn's ear, "there's something here, a smell that resembles the potions room. Do you smell it Red? What do you think it is?" Taking only a moment before the twelve year old would whisper low into Henry Llewellyn's ear again, " I'll explain later how I know but I think their is someone injured in the dungeons from the amount of blood I smell. I think they need help, Red," the twelve year old would look at his friend and after a look over the gryffindor girl and another word with Henry Llewellyn, the second year would continue to the next room Room 2 with Henry Llewellyn.

Holding the light in front of him and following his nose for the smell of blood. The second year was determined to find the source of the blood and hopefully the source wasn't dead and they could help them if the source was coming from a person at all. As Henry kept his wand lit light I'm front of him and eyes lingering between the next room and Henry Llewellyn making sure that he didn't become separated with his friend.

She followed the trail of chalk, eyes narrowed slightly. Nothing much had come up from her previous search, so she was going in blind. "Do you think we should see where it goes or something? Or is there like, a particular hallway we should try?" It was a mystery for her to unravel. But with no idea what she was doing, should she really?

"Should we stick together or split up...?" she then asked, more to herself. One door was locked. One wasn't, seemingly welcoming, but that alone gave her a sense of foreboding. Then ahead was an open hallway, but she didn't know what was down that way. "Which hallway...?" Again, it seemed mostly to herself.

She tapped her wand arm with her free hand, trying to stimulate her mind. She was feeling a bit of stress from the decision, which felt like it was looming over her - even if she didn't need to worry so much. It was practically part of her now, the worry. She didn't have an interesting story, but she sure as h*ll had an inner monologue that implied it. Everything seemed like
a great and looming monster when put through her perspective, save for a few things.

She turned her gaze towards her sister, ready to walk down one of the hallways but unsure - at this point, she was depending on her sister to make a decision, or at least add to her thoughts so she could actually figure something out. Would it not be inappropriate or rude, she would have groaned to herself but that could be misinterpreted, so she opted to keep her exasperation to herself.

Koko narrowed her eyes as she glanced around, a hand on her wand. In the dim glow of her sister's Lumos, she could see three ways they could go.

At Sapphire’s query, a small, impish smile curved across Koko’s lips. “Maybe the left? I don’t think anyone’s been that way.” After all, how could they have gotten past a locked and fortified door?

Koko slipped her wand out of its pocket and snickered. The gesture was unlike her usual demeanour, but she was comfortable around her sister. “Even if they have... I doubt it's the most popular way to go. If needed, I can use my wand for spells and stuff so that you can keep your lumos going.”

In all honesty, Koko was itching to cast a spell of some sort. She was by no means that great at magic, but if something came their way... Koko's thoughts drifted from the initial anxiety of something coming after them to a different sort of anxiety - she was breaking a rule. She reckoned that she probably wasn’t allowed to be down in the dungeons after curfew even if she was a prefect. But going a way no one else had gone?

At least, she didn't think anyone had gone that way. She hoped no one had.

Koko might not have risked the last option any other time, but she was quite curious. Suddenly confident, she glanced at Sapphire, raising her wand. “I think we should go that way, yeah. You?"

She still felt like there was something off with the shadows, but despite watching them closely, couldn't narrow down what it might be. They just seemed a little too active. At the same time, they didn't appear to have taken more corporeal forms like the spiders and Victor's killer. She'd just have to watch out, she supposed, without hard evidence anything was off.

Illowy had followed her, and with a tap on her shoulder, said she was going to look around. Bridget nodded. If she wasn't busy trying to determine if the shadows were a legitimate threat or a figment of her imagination, she would have done the same. Her search still wasn't yielding any results, though, and her attention was being increasingly drawn by the group near the locked door, where Illowy had headed toward. From what she could tell, Alexander was attempting to unlock it, Flash and a green-haired girl behind him. They looked ready to act if there was something behind it, a smart thing indeed. There was something down here and they had to be on their guard.

That applied to her, too. But an attack from behind when the direction she'd come from was supposed to be safe? She wasn't ready for that. Bridget was making her way toward Illowy, who had just gestured for her to come over, warily eyeing the door Alexander was opening. And then the thirteen-year-old would shriek as it flew into her. There was a moment of panic as comprehension of what was happening was suspended. A flurry of action, beating wings and pecking beaks and her reaching up reactively to ward off whatever was attacking her to no avail. Her hair had been pulled back in a braid, but it was quickly falling out, the thing getting caught in her thick, probably somewhat tangled hair. And then it pulled, like it was trying to rip her hair out. "Ow!" The exclamation was partly a cry of pain, partly instinct to get help. The shock had worn off enough for her to piece together what was happening. There was a bird in her hair. Why were there even birds down here? It was dark, cramped, far away from the sky. The cries of pain had not just been her own; glancing to the side, Opeila seemed to be in a similar predicament.

There was nothing she could do for the second year right now. It was hard enough to focus between the painful tugs on her hair and the bird's continued use of its sharp beak. Her hand had wrapped around her hair, trying to mitigate the worst of the pulling. This wasn't the first time she'd had a creature stuck in her hair. Granted, last time it had been a spider, more the anticipation of it biting her again than pain. Come on, think. A physical attempt to remove the bird probably wouldn't work well, not when she could barely see it. And magic... well, whatever she cast would have a very good chance of hitting her.

She gritted her teeth as the bird pecked at her again. Looking up in what was just another futile movement to extricate herself from the bird, she saw it. Shadows. Shadows with no physical origin, without master. It was too much all at once and she felt like freezing. For a moment she did. She could only do some much, couldn't handle this bird and the potential threat of shadow creatures.

Then again, doing nothing wasn't going to help. She was still panicked, but what could she do about it? It was one problem at a time or nothing at all. The bird was her more immediate problem but the shadows, if remotely similar to those of her past experiences, were the bigger threat. She was certain the shadows didn't have a master, she'd double-checked. Which meant everyone else had to know. There were surely countless other threats down here, but if one was so close, they needed to be aware of it. "The shadows are wrong." Rather vague, but she was a little busy with the bird in her hair. Her best attempt to be loud enough for everyone to hear wasn't particularly loud, barely above what could be considered a normal talking voice really, but enough for anyone paying attention. She would point, too, toward the unnatural shadows on the ceiling.

Hopefully that was enough; now for the bird. Successfully dealing with shadows and birds couldn't happen simultaneously. But she didn't know what to do. She'd already ruled out the first things that came to mind, and even if she could concentrate long enough to recall a spell that would work and wasn't much of a risk, she wouldn't trust herself to cast it. Not with the terrible angle she'd have, not with the pain clouding her focus. At an utter loss, she locked eyes with Illowy.

Illowy. Of course. Bridget wasn't alone down here; she had friends, competent people who had her back. Admitting she needed help wasn't the easiest thing, but certainly she could do so with Illowy, and besides, she really did need help. "Illowy? Think you can get this thing away?"

Biting her lip to distract herself from the more painful sensation of the bird's pulling and pecking, she held still to give Illowy the best possible shot on the thrashing bird. And in the meantime, surely there was something she could do to not be completely useless. There was one thing that came to mind, and that was the shadows. She lifted her gaze to the ceiling. Maybe she couldn't do anything about them right now, but she could watch. Try to gain a better understanding of what exactly they were and be ready if they attacked.

Opeila quickly managed to regain orientation in the dungeon and followed the others into the second room. People had started to spread, entered different rooms so it was not so crowded anymore, making it easy for Opeila to find her best friend together with two others. One of the students he was with, she knew- Sarah Lightwood, her dormmate, easy to identify with her green hair. The other boy Opeila could only look at very quickly, before something grabbed hold of her hair.

The little Slytherin gasped, for a moment unable to think clearly. Something pulled on her hair and for a second she was could almost smell the herbal scent of the man that took her hostage on the train again, feel the panic, the desperate hope that no one would do anything stupid, that no one got hurt... Something scratched the sensitive skin on her head, animalistic screams filled her ears.

Groaning in pain, Opeila reached up and felt something moving, feathery on her head- Was that a bird? A sharp pain in her hand made her pull it back quickly- the bird pecked her hand, not to much, but the cut was visible and bleeding. The little girl wheezed when the bird pecked and scratched her head again, tangled in her hair.

Bridget near her experienced something similar. Again Opeila reached up, this time trying not to pull back, and attempted to free the bird.

Action: Opeila tries to free the bird from her hair.

He had finally found a suitable room, a comfortable arrangement of random rubble that promised an inviting future as lair to the Monster of Hogwarts' Halls. He didn't need a lot, after all, just enough to hide himself while he pretended he was asleep. Sleeping was an interesting affair, for Kaegen, because he didn't want anyone to find him at all, and so, went to great lengths in order to conceal himself. But no matter how well he did, his eyes would never quite close all the way. They would remain open just enough for him to keep an eye on shifting shadows, as he ardently pretended to sleep, sure that any moment, that assassins that had been stalking him all this time were going to strike. So he lay there, tensed, ready, undeterred in his convictions even after over a hundred nights with the same charade and no attack had passed. They were lying in wait, they were biding their time, they would surely strike this time.

A tripwire would go across the corridor leading up to the pile of rubble he was planning on retrofitting. It was a simple affair. String, wrapped around a heavy rock, eventually looping over the top, and crossing the passage to do the same on the other side. A small pile of pebbles were then placed on top of the anchor stones, just in case the trapped individual was able to recover, the rocks would clatter and notify him, for sure.

A few more of these were scattered around, along with carefully placed thumbtacks. They probably wouldn't do a whole lot, but if it was dark enough, then maybe. And besides, they were an edge, another edge he could use, another minor trick, piled on to trick after trick after trick. Anything to survive, after all. He was still working on a trap that used weaponized rats and peanut butter, but that was a work in progress. Moving to the wall of the corridor next to his traps he wrote, carefully, in chalk.
Here ends the jurisdiction of the lords of Hogwarts

And then he slunk back to the main room. It would be distracting, hopefully, it was fairly high up on the wall, it might lure eyes away from the traps on the ground. It could alert them to the traps presence as well, but Kaegen was feeling bitter. The fear, spurred on by the suspicious stone, had momentarily faded, leaving only a hurt, angry child. He was alone, as usual, and although it usually didn't bother him, sometimes the edge got a little bit sharper, in tune with the pangs he would feel in the vicinity of where the textbooks claimed his heart was.

Kaegen idly wondered how hard it would be to create a hammock suspended from the stone cieling above as he began shifting stones. Not too much, but enough to allow for a crack. These were by no means fortifications. They were carefully balanced, designed to be easily knocked over to allow for a surprise escape. He had no desire to be ensnared in his own newest base of operations. But as Kaegen placed one of the stones, and took a deep breath, he froze. There were people down here?

Freezing like a deer in the headlights, the emaciated corpse of a boy flared his nostrils, trying to pick up what he had just detected. No, no there was mildew, damp stone, dust, fungus... and people. Definitely people. People who didn't belong. Person? Maybe? How many were there? Where was it coming from? A draft, maybe coming all the way from the slytherin's dorms? But then why did it smell so much stronger than it usually did? No, there was something very wrong in Kaegen's little kingdom. He had intruders, he must have intruders.

In truth, there was very little smell at all. There was nothing substantial enough for anyone but Kaegen to have gone off of. It was the smallest whiff of the great hall, just a little bit more than he was used to. But it was enough. It was enough because his confirmation bias ran deeper than the aleutian megathrust's ocean channel. It was enough because he already expected this, he always expected this. A full scale invasion. A slingshot quickly slipped into a ready and willing hand, and his newest base was left, abandoned. Eyes glancing over at the nearby walls, Kaegen would try to douse as many sources of light as he could find in his vicinity, while preparing for full scale war.

[font=century gothic]INTERACTING WITH @Ileen Knight, @Jack Burnett, @Flash Holmwood | MENTIONING @Henry Knight, @Henry Llewellyn, @Percival Gray | PROXIMITY TO Many (room 1, then room 2)[/font]
Somehow, despite the fact that her spell had illuminated them like an accent piece at a rave party, the stones had attracted very little attention. Only one other boy (@Henry Llewellyn) had seen it necessary to join her by the large slabs, and by the way he commented on them, he'd noticed them by other means. "Clearly," she'd given in reply. Obviously she'd seen them as well, otherwise she wouldn't have been crouched by them to get a closer look.

"Help would be lovely, actually," she smiled, lifting her gaze briefly in appreciation of the first boy's help. Her attention flickered momentarily to a second figure (@Henry Knight) that had joined him, the light of the other's lumos helping to bathe the area. To him, she offered a demure, "Ah, thanks." Whatever appreciation had shown on her features faded somewhat the moment the second began to whisper into the ear of the first. Obviously noone had taught him any manners; his whole display of whispering right in front of her was rather rude. As tempted as she was to slip in a quip, however, she refrained, pulling her attention back to the stones.

Scuffs and scrapes marred the ground surrounding those stones that had been lit up. By the look of it, they had been moved and removed, likely dragged over that surface more than a few times. That wasn't all that strange. If they were used as some sort of hiding place, she'd have expected as much. What was strange, however, was the strand of hair that she found: long, silvery blonde, and taut. Was it accidental? In a way, it almost seemed adhered to the stone on one end. And the other end...? Well, as peculiar as it was, it hardly seemed like any sort of trigger for, say, an explosion, and so didn't deter her from attempting to pry up the stone. A comment behind her from a particularly grating voice (@Percival Gray) spurred her to conclude her stalling and move into action if for no other reason than to give herself a distraction and drown him out.

Unfortunately, per the moderation, whatever help he might have provided was entirely withdrawn. Evelynn shot him a quizzical, are-you-quite-serious-don't-be-absurd look before mentally shaking her head. If she would have to do it herself, so be it. A shift in stance, a bend at the knees, and Evelynn prepared herself to hoist what would no doubt be a heavy and awkward load. Not just a pretty face, and with several years of athletic extra-curriculars under her belt, she managed it well enough, shifting it off to the side and lowering it as gingerly as she could to the floor without squishing her fingers. (The thought of a quick drop had crossed her mind, but she didn't relish the attention that an echoing crash would bring to her).

What greeted her beneath the stone gave her pause. Standing over it, the area still well illuminated by Knight's light, Evelynn allowed her gaze to comb over its interior. She'd been expecting a stash of sorts. Perhaps a place to hide items. Instead, it appeared more akin to a coffin. Had it not been for the crudely stitched blanket, there may even have been a growing sense of dread. Even still...the thought of someone actually using this as some sort of napping spot seemed more than a little strange. Who would make use of such a space? Or perhaps the better question wasn't who... but what?

In that moment, the light began to fade. Pulled from her thoughts, she looked up to see the two boys that had been with her begin to move off deeper into the dungeons. Taking her light with them. Rude. Reaching for the strand of hair, she quickly snapped it at the base where it attached to the lid, curled it about a finger, and tucked it into one of the abandoned bottles that littered the floor around her before stowing that away in her bag. Why? Why not? Perhaps it would come in useful at some point. Considering its use in a number of potions and other concoctions, there was a certain magic in hair; and perhaps it might come in useful later. Perhaps they could even use it in a polyjuice potion to determine the identity of its own and give them a face to question. A bit of a stretch, perhaps, but Evelynn wasn't about to let any little lead pass by easily.

Pulling away from the hidy hole, Evelynn turned to some of the others who were gathered nearby. "Anything?" she asked of the girl (@Ileen Knight), gaze bouncing between her and Burnett. "You mentioned it isn't chalk?" Evelynn had been keeping her ears perked for the conversation around her and had picked up a couple of things amidst her own little activities. "Do you know what it is?"

Given that nothing more had really been identified for this area, and no particularly novel information was likely to be revealed as those that had learned anything at all of significance (Henry K.) had kept it mostly to himself and begun to move on, Evelynn would likely have no reason to suggest further investigation in the area. Instead, after the above questions were addressed, and her own explanation of what she had found was offered if anyone inquired, she would go on to suggest, "Well, it's generally best not to get too separated. We should probably catch up with the others."

Regardless of whether the rest joined her or not, Evelynn would carry further into the dungeon returning back down the stairs from which she had already climbed once in search of @Flash Holmwood. Too many people were already milling about the room (Room 2) for her comfort (although the light cast by their Lumos' was very helpful), but it wasn't the people that held her attention—nor even the back scratcher, half a stool, or plethora of other items littering the floor. Nor was it the divergence of the three paths where one might be drawn by the beckoning of "Home", a path of white non-chalk, or "Nobody is home". It was the drawings which were, to her, vaguely reminiscent of an oculus swarm. Again, the presence of drawings cast her thoughts immediately back to the tapestries. Could there possibly be anything more to see here?

Perhaps she'd look later. For the moment, movement to her left had caught her attention and she turned to see Flash near the entrance of a rather heavy door below the "Nobody is Home". "Flash!" By the way he and the other boy with him (@Alexander Varellion) were poised, it looked as though they'd made some sort of discovery. As she turned to close the distance, she pulled from her pack a couple of single (because her author thought she had more in inventory than she did) magical candle and her lighter. It took only a moment for her to light it and when she released the candle, it hung, floating in the air. "Have you found something?" Depending on actions, it's uncertain whether they would hear her or not, or even whether she'd be able to catch up to them properly.
