Fall Games Quidditch: Gryffindor v Slytherin

────── ☆ ───────
October 23rd

Scarlett glanced at her new fellow Beater - a tough looking guy. Older, smarter, stronger. That was good - she couldn't face off against freaking Erin without some help from the experienced players. She noticed their Seeker, Evelynn, had her eyes trained on something. Hope flared through her - it could be the Snitch! They could win!

Scarlett raised her bat and whacked a flying Bludger at Erin, which missed. The other Gryffindor Beater did the same. It also missed. Finally, Erin took her shot but...yes. It missed. Scarlett gritted her teeth. They would have to try harder.

Fall Games Quidditch: Gryffindor v Slytherin

A bludger would narrowly miss Erin, she would watch the iron sphere shoot past her. She would glance at the source out of the corner of her eye. Better to be aware than oblivious, she had become an obvious target in these games. The respite she craved she would not allow to come to pass without a fight. @Scarlett Aden, not that she knew the name. The "Opponent Gryffindor" as Erin had named the girl in her mind, basically her status in relation to Erin the center of all things in her ego. Was she a threat? No, not really. In truth, it was a waste. Her attack would not be enough to knock Erin off her broom, even if she had a lucky shot.

It was then Erin's turn.

The bludger came her way and without hesitation she struck the hard enchanted metal ball with her bat and launched the dangerous magical item straight for @Kyle DeRook. He was no less ambitious as he rocketed a bludger straight at her. An exchange of blows that would likely have grounded either, perhaps both of them. She saw the obvious attack upon her person and Kyle was no more trusting. The deafening crack of the bat, neither would hear the satisfying sound of lead impacting soft flesh. @Kyle DeRook was more agile than she had credited him on first glance.

"No hard feelings!" She winked. There were no feelings at all, she knew that but there was nothing wrong with having a good time.

Then she would find it, the snitch. A sudden diversion in the opponent Seeker's flight path, @Evelynn Decipio's sudden diversion in flight was obvious. Erin would not see that glint of gold but knew that the girl had likely seen something that sparkled and shined. It was likely that the entire team would rally to protect their Seeker, that they would attempt to make a short game of it. To grab the snitch and end things with little regard for the quaffles. Slytherin's chance to get ahead while she took down their defenses.

She would look at Dan, curious regarding who she was to take down. Kyle remained an attractive target, while not particularly accurate one hit from him could devastate almost anyone on the team. However, it would be game over if Evelynn got that snitch. It was likely there would be a meat shield, perhaps even a few needing to be broken. Considering the brawn of her brethren here, they would be hard pressed to whittle down their defenses in time. "The girl?" Erin called, making no secret the obvious move but of course her suggestion just as obvious. Of course both the captains may have something different to say, something perhaps unexpected or even cunning.

Erin awaited her orders, bat in hand.

For this round Alan had been paying attention to people of his team that were currently flying around and fully engaging in the game. He did not mind this task, it was more of an honor for him to be trusted with this. This meant that his team had trusted him enough to catch them in case they fell and that level of trust made Alan do his best to stay alert throughout the round. Not only was that the case but Gryffindor had also managed to score high this time and it made a cheerful smirk appear on his lip as he cheered on their Keeper who surprised him by his flexibility in the game.

The Gryffindor was happy to see that they had caught up with the points and were basically now neck to neck with the other team as they finally had back their full team now that both Rafael and Anastasia had completed their bonus rounds. He was waiting for anything, any kind of sign of what to do next as he looked for Rafael and Evelynn as the two of them were his captains. It did not matter that the two weren't actually both captains, but being a co-captain was more than enough and Alan wouldn't make a difference. He respected Evelynn and knew she meant well. A soft smile found its way onto his face as he thought about their first real encounter in the common room; she was strong and he respected that.

Ana made quick work of the penalty lap and turned her attention back to the game. She hated that her time had been monopolized so early in the game, but she was determined to make up for it. Slytherin had a strong start and had managed to save the one player that had been knocked from their broom, but Ana remained optimistic. Gryffindor had managed to tie up the score and Ana and Rafa had both finished their laps, so she knew that despite the somewhat uninspiring start, the lions were fighting hard. She brushed away the wet hair that was now plastered to her face and squinted through the rain, prepared for whatever came next.

God, Rafael hated spectating.

There was something about watching a game, the anticipation following each tense of the muscle, the very sweat on the faces of his friends and enemies alike as they played, that just – well, it killed the young Captain, really dug a knife in his mood, all the excitement and energy that had once presided within his countenance now spurting out of his chest like blood from an open wound as he watched with hard eyes the events taking part on the field. Gryffindor, as it would seem, had been spared the wrath of the damned she-hulk fourth-year beater this round, which in a strange way, seemed to relieve the young man more than any failure on the other team’s part to catch the snitch. Well, Rafael was a shit blatcher, but he’d be damned if Slytherin wasn’t facing its own problems. Alan, impressively, had managed to score as well, a fact that seemed to return some of the once-prevalent vitality to the sour-faced second year. If the Lions didn’t win, that alone could be chalked up to a victory – he knew the fourth year had it in him. However, even that spark of hope couldn’t illuminate the dark dredges that was the Captain’s mood. They were goddamn tied, and no motherfucker won a tied game. He supposed, his fingers clutching tightly onto the smooth handle of his Nimbus 1700, that Gryffindor would simply have to power through their adversity with a fervor that greatly rivaled the other team’s. What was the saying? Small but mighty? Something like that? He’d always sucked at literature. But whatever he lacked in written arts, he surely made up in spirit – he sure as hell wanted to win more than these damned snakes.

Having just finished his penalty lap around the field, the young man would waste not a moment more in turning his broom about, scanning the available openings in the other team’s offense. It would be then, that he would see it – or, more properly her. It was, in fact, Mary Jane herself, the Gryffindor’s begrudgingly prized seeker Evelynn Decipio, whistling about the expanses of the arena, her eyes focused forward as if she saw something just beyond her reach. Now, Rafael wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but he’d be damned if he couldn’t see a chase for what it was. God, he thought with a rush of adrenaline, we’re close. For the first time in forever, Gryffindor was close, close enough to smell the sweet victory wafting in the air. Could they make a catch? That, Rafael deducted, was not a problem for him to work out. Evelynn had her own giant to fight – that didn’t mean he couldn’t give her an assist. God, I’m going to regret this later. Right now, they needed to protect their position, as well as their seeker. Suppose it is what it is, he thought with an angry shake of the head. Time to make some poor decisions.

Well, he thought with a dangerous grin, what else was new?

Interception | When a Quaffle is being passed, users with this ability automatically get a chance to Intercept the quaffle. This does not replace their normal action for the round. This puts the quaffle in your and by extension your teams' possession.

Also, if the Quaffle is dropped for any reason, you would automatically (without it taking up an action) attempt another Quafflegrab. At present there would be no mid-round way to drop a quaffle due to the order of operations, however there will be certain effects in future patches that can cause this effect. [Bodyblow? Keeper Pass?]

"Yes!" he cheered, still on the edge of his seat as they began to score. He was silently praying that their winning streak from last year would carry forward into the new school year; and they were seemingly now neck-and-neck in scores. As the game progressed he could only hope that Evelynn and the others were close to the snitch- and their goals with the quaffles, as he watched in silent ancticipation. "Come on Eve... Show 'em whos boss." He whispered under his breath, "Win for us... don't fall..." He was praying that what had happened last time would not happen again.. especially since he wasn't there to catch her this time.

MENTIONING: the game in general
Lucky or skilful... sometimes it was difficult to differentiate the two when it came to Quidditch. Certainly in the torrential downpour with which this match had been blessed, any player who wished to accomplish anything at all would have to at least be somewhat graced by both favour of diligent practice and fortune on the pitch. Of course, some days were better than others, and on this one, Evelynn prayed to just be able to stay on her broom long enough to do something. Anything. To at least catch a glimmer of that gold and start the chase before being swept from the air to careen to the unyielding pitch below.

Easier said than done. The rain had a way of washing everything to grey. Yellow. Red. Blue. Green. The uniforms of players and robes of spectators all meshed together in a desaturated, blurry mess. She couldn't even be certain that it was the speed of the other students upon their brooms that made focusing upon them so difficult. It could very well have been the water that seeped incessantly from her hair to drip down into her eyes turning the pitch above into what may as well have been a water ballet at the lake. For what must have been the fiftieth time, Evelynn brushed the sleeve of her robe against her face in an attempt to dry it. A futile attempt, naturally, serving only to temporarily smear the water away. As rain quickly pelted down to obscure her vision yet again, she vowed to look up some sort of charm to prevent this in future. Between the flood and painful pelting of water, looking forward really wasn't an option anymore. Either way, she could hardly see.

In a fit of desperation, Evelynn took to peering only to the sides, first right then left. It'd be a miracle she didn't just fall off her broom from self-induced vertigo. But with the rain whipping past and streaming off the profile of her face, at least she had those moments of relatively clear vision. She'd take what she could get. Around the pitch she raced, doing what she could to cover as much airspace as possible in her hunt to make up for the weather's sight-impairing effect. More than once, the subtle glint of a watch in the stands or a broom's stirrup in the air caused her stomach to flip with a spike of adrenaline. And every time, her disappointment mounted with the false excitement.

Then it happened. Perhaps Lady Luck was flying with her today. Or perhaps her God had heard her. Perhaps it was simply being in the right place at the right time with only coincidental timing having everything to do with it. Regardless of the reason and rationale, the blur of molten gold that next caught her attention was one she was spurred to chase. A sharp turn set her on its path. Under normal circumstances, she might have attempted to be a little more discreet about the chase so as to buy her as much time as possible before the rest of the stands and players caught wind that she'd spied the little avian effigy. In the rain, though, she was too afraid to lose it if she dared attempt such a thing. She raced after it with abandon, swivelling through players and avoiding bludger trajectories, flattening herself as much as she could for every ounce of speed she could milk from the broom.

"GO EEVEE, GOOOO!!!"

Piérre's voice, although distant and muted by the white noise, reached Evelynn nonetheless, spurring her on further. The patter of rain was soon replaced by the pounding of a beat in her head. She was hunger. Itching for a catch. Although the touch of sphere had been grasped during their scrimmage match against Hufflepuff towards the end of last year, Evelynn had yet to accomplish anything of worth in a real game. This was her chance. Gryffindor's chance. They'd won once against the snakes, but not with the snitch. She needed this catch. The lions needed this catch.

Almost there. Almost. Just a little bit more...

Koko let out a hiss when Pierre scored, nearly stumbling off her broom. She caught herself, though, and she sighed. Her feet were slipping because of the rain, and she gasped when she saw Pierre coming again. She attempted to block this score, just like last time, but her skills still failed her. Koko grumbled underneath her breath, pulling herself back onto her broom, and she let a small smile spread on her lips when she saw Alexx heading towards the unguarded Gryffindor hoops.

"YOU GO, SEVERIN!!!" she shouted. Koko waved her hands before she slipped on the wet shaft of her broom again, and she shoved her gloved hands onto the wood to keep her from falling off. For once, she appreciated how she'd tied her hair back before the game. Despite the rain, she didn't have wet hair clinging to her face.

Koko set her jaw as she stared out into the field, blinking raindrops out of her eyes, and she swerved around the hoops momentarily, sighing to herself as she watched her teammates.

At least they were doing well, she told herself. She needed to do her part.

Slytherin really, really needed to win this.

Dan snarled slightly. How DARE Kyle DeRook dodge the grisly end he had so kindly set up for him?!
Okay fine, Dan wasn't like that, but he wasn't happy. Kyle should have been nailed, but here he still was.

Thankfully however, Erin too, was still there. That made things MUCH easier. But he needed to focus on finding the snitch. The team knew what to do, of that he was sure.

But now they were tied. Gryffindor had the GALL to score on them. And he couldnt find Evelynn anywhere. This was beginning to get out of hand. And Dan HATED when he lost his grip on things like this.

Swiftly hoping to get hold onto the Quaffle, Nico zoomed towards the goal-giving ball. Her hood nearly slipping off her head, allowing some thick drops of rain to drop onto her face. It startled her alittle and made it hard for her to put her eyes on the quaffle. Thankfully, Alexx was more than capable to keep the ball in check.

At some point however, the dhampir got her hands on the leathery ball, quickly tossing it over to Alexx, to help fix atleast one score for Slytherin. The redhead sighed and flew back to her spot, pulling the hood a little more over her face. A dark energy still surrounding her out of sight.

Lovely Creature

Effect: You are very distracting to look at. This increases the Control DC of spells in duels and adventures by +2 as well as the DC for finding things in adventures or the DC for finding the snitch in a game of Quidditch. This ability does not stack.

Unsetteling Aura

A Dhampir's Unsettling Aura becomes noticeable. This is created by their presence. It is that uncanny feeling one gets where the small hairs on the back of their neck stand on end and the flesh on their arms turn to gooseflesh. It is as if the room itself was turned down by several degrees and one's heart was filled with a foreboding sense.

Effect: This represented as a 10% auto-fail rate for anyone besides the Dhampir (or other Dhampirs) to perform an action or cast a spell. Unfortunately, this prevents a dhampir from being hidden (entering stealth) when in use. As such any attempts to be hidden in a topic while this is on would automatically fail. However, a dhampir can turn off their aura at the cost of an action (unlike those that have the ability terrible presence) and as an action turn back on their aura. This ability does not stack in intensity when multiple Dhampirs have it activated.
Broom : Tinderblast

In the role of Chaser, as a free action if the user of this broom is successful in the quafflegrab they can as a free action pass the Quaffle to another user in an attempt to score. There is a chance of the quaffle being intercepted, however due to the fact that the user is "so fast" with the quaffle this would be considered "surprising" and the attempt to score would be done at +3 accuracy by the player it was passed to in an attempt to score.

Note: The attempt to score would be an automatic attempt by the user that catches the passed quaffle.

You're gonna need a bigger boat
