Jay was reading in the library one day when he came across an interesting concept, Mugglborn wizard can make up for what they lack using Muggle technology. It was an interesting concept that he never considered due to electronic devices not working in Hogwarts, but what about mechanical ones? Can they be used by a witch or wizard so they can make up for the experience they lack with magic? Jay like the concept since he was raised with Muggles, but he wasn't going to implement it, why? Because he would rather learn new spells instead of working with devices.

Jay wanted to learn a spell that can be used in combat situation, and after looking through the second year Charms books he found what he needed.

The Freezing Charm, Immobulus can, like it's name suggests, freez people and objects, or in other words this was the spell to counter any muggle device. It can be used to freez people, rendering them useless and even stop any muggle device by freezing it's components.

Jay now felt determined to learn this spell. The incantation was simple enough, 'ih-MOH-byoo-luhs', he repeat it three times while checking the text book, to make sure he got it right, he then practiced the wand movement but without casting the spell, the wand movement took a couple of tries for him to get it right, the wand movement looked like a mountain with two peaks and a line trailing underneath it.

After checking everything from the text book, and making sure his wand movement is correct, he started to cast the spell, he moved his wand in the shape of a mountain with two peaks with a line trailing underneath it, at the same time he pronounced the incantation "ih-MOH-byoo-luhs!".

A blue light shot from his wand hitting a book on the opposite shelf, he then remembered that he us still in the library and that he just casted a spell in the library, he immediately started packing his stuff and ran out of there before the librarian kicks him out or does something even worth to him.

After his great escape, he found himself in the courtyard panting, while contemplating how long he has to live. After calming down he remembered waht he was doing and remember that he manged to cast the Freezing Charm, though he wasn't 100% sure since he couldn't try it on a living creature, he won't try it on animals, that's just cruel, and he obviously can't try them on students...or can he? After weighing his options he decided to try it on a one of the roosters in the gamekeeper's back yard. He snuck there while trying his best to not be noticed, though he saw no one there and figured the gamekeeper isn't in his home. He found a rooster minding it's own business and muttered a small 'sorry'.

Jay then moved his wand in the shape of a mountain with two peaks and a line trailing underneath it, while saying the incantation "ih-MOH-byoo-luhs!"

The blue light shot out of Jay's wand and hit the rooster, completely freezing it in place. Jay felt happy that he manged to succeed in the casting the spell, though he felt a little bad for the rooster and decided to hide it in a comfortable place until the spell runs out.

He made his way back to his dorm feeling great about his accomplishment, while hoping that no one saw him.

Clair plopped down in a empty chair, it was September second and she was ready to learn. Day one of being at Hogwarts had been just a little much to do after settling in. She liked being a second year, there was something to it, that made her feel better than when she had been a first year, lost and wandering the halls for endless hours. She had a short while until her first class started, and Clair was ready to learn, she had been waiting so long to learn more magic, she had leafed through the book Belle had given her everyday. Yet the whole no magic outside Hogwarts thing kind of not let her practice the magic, the magic she wanted to learn.

She was not sure what spell she wanted to learn, there were so many to choose from, so many good ones too. She had tried to reason with herself, that she should not go over board, that she should not fill her head with more than maybe three spells from the hear above her. But which three spells would she choose? And at that, if she only learned three, then she would be missing out on all the other really cool spells! She toyed with her wand, which spell? Which spell? She ran her finger down the index, she really had to choose!

Finally she decided between three of the spells. The summoning Charm, The banishing Charm and The Wind Charm. She liked the idea of the Summoning charm, because she would be able to summon things towards herself without having to get it, but than again, she could always just get it.

She loved the idea of the banishing charm, but without being able to summon it what was the point in Banishing it? And the wind charm, it sounded so cool, it would be helpful in Racing too, maybe.
Yet there was something, maybe the tiny inner couch potato inside her, that made her really want to learn the Summoning charm first.

Flipping to the page that had the Summoning charm.

She looked at it.
''Accio" she said, practicing it. ''hmm, not to hard sounding."
"Accio, Accio. I think I've got it now." She moved her wand in a upper half circle.
And then she did it again, "Like a rainbow." She muttered, thinking of things like that helped her remember the motion for the spells she found.
"AH-kee-oh!" She shouted. And nothing happened. Oops she had forgotten to move her wand.
"AH-kee-oh!" She shouted and moved her wand in a upper circle, and watched as a pencil came flying towards her.
"YASSSSS!" She shouted, pumping her arms in the air. She was overjoyed by her success.

Clair was ready to roll. She had had all her stuff ready since that morning, her things included the Book of third year charms from her sister, a quill, a spare quill, Parchment, Spare parchment, a Ink well, a spare ink well, her wand (sorry folks no spare wand!) and a pillow to sit on, along with tons of other useless things.

She entered the classroom and looked around, lucky for her it was empty, which meant that she'd be able to practice on her own, without being distracted by other people, or worrying about hitting them. She sat down and flipped through the Charms book, of course there had to be at least one that seemed interesting, right? Well they all seemed super cool and she could not wait to learn them. But choosing just one was so hard! It took her a solid half hour to narrow it down on one spell; Ferula.

She had heard Belle talking about how useful it was around the farm before. Seeing as animals sometimes cut themselves, being able to use magic to bandage them up was really Handy. Clair of course would never be able to use the spell outside Hogwarts until she was at least 17, but hey! She could still learn, and besides. How could she complete her goal of learning all the spells out there if she did not start as soon as she could? Belle had promised to teach Clair some of the spells that theu would be learning in her fourth year over the next summer. But Clair was not sure if that would really happen, seeing as she had been shipped off to get grandmother's horrid house this past summer.
Oh well. She decided to not think about it anymore, what use was it? Thinking about the future and past instead on right now. There was nothing she could do to change how things would happen.

"fer-ROOL-la" she said, '' no no no! It's fer-OOOL-laH! NO!" She shook her head, her thoughts were still cluttered with the past, she really needed to empty her brain. Closing her eyes she tried to only think of the book before her, after she managed to empty her brain of almost all her thoughts, Clair tried again, looking at the book as she said it to make sure she was saying it right. "fer-ROOL-lah! fer-ROOL-lah! fer-ROOL-lah!" Yes! She had gotten it! Now she just had to add the movement along with it, and see if she was doing it right. She laid her leg out in front of herself, "fer-ROOL-lah!" She said, as she tapped her wand against her leg. And watched as the spell started to work.

Clair plunked herself down in the classroom seat, this was a spell she had been reading about and had practiced saying a whole bunch of times. Banishing things sounded fun.
It was lunch time, and Clair had planned it out so that she would not have to worry (hopefully) about people being in the classroom at the same time as her, this seemed like a spell that would be a little more dangerous then such spells like Accio. Instead of bringing things to you, it would get rid of them for you, another useful spell for people who are lazy and don't care how their rooms looks. Or maybe for people who don't like to put things away. Seeing as Clair was neither, it was random that she was so excited to learn this spell.
"Banishing charm, Banishing charm..." Clair muttered as she looked for it in the Index at the front of the Third year Charms book.
As she searched she tried to think if her sisters had ever chatted about this charm, Izzy had mentioned it once or twice, and Belle had said it was great if you wanted to banish something from your sight.
Clair finally found it in the index and start to flip towards it. She looked at a few of the other charms as she flipped by them, Accio; that had been fun to learn, Ventus; she would have to learn that one sometime, it would be cool to use in a broom race somehow. She looked at a few others before finding the correct page. She looked at the whole page before starting on the first part, which was the Indication for the spell. This one was a little hard for Clair, "de-PULL-so? No thats not right. de-POHL-so? dE-PUHL-so? I think thats closer then I've gotten before." She muttered. "de-PUHL-so? Yes! I got it!" She was rather happy with herself, her mouth had moved the way she wanted it to now she just had to get her hand to do the same thing.

At least for this spell it was not to hard, just a simple sweep of the wand, she picked up her wand from it's pocket in her robes and practiced a few times, not like it was that hard, she did it a few times with no trouble, she she decided that it would be time to put the two together.
Aiming her wand at her bag she made the action and said "de-PUHL-so!" And watched as her bag went flying into the wall. "WooHoo!" She shouted, happy that it had worked.

Spell/Incantation: Biting Jinx (Mordeo)
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Narrative:
Reducio
The Biting Jinx was an interesting one. Evidently, Jack read, it caused an object to bite anyone who attempted to use it. It seemed like a pretty fun trick for pranks and perhaps decent enough to distract someone for self-defense. He set to work studying it in his dorm room when his roommate was out. One could certainly think of plenty of creative objects to use the jinx on. So far he had read about it being used on shoes, a kettle, a teacup, and even a doorknob. The doorknob in particular had caused two of its muggle victims to have lost fingers, requiring their bones to be regrown and their memories modified. Jack shuddered at the thought. No way would he be testing out the spell on any sort of doorknob.

Instead, he decided to practice it on a quill and a few of his books. Perhaps it could have been useful if he wanted to protect something precious to him like the trunk of private items he hid under his bed. In combination with the locking spell, the Biting Jinx could have been a good deterrent for anyone who tried to get a look at his stuff while he was away. Maybe his trunk could take a bite out of the nosy person.

The wand movement was easy enough, requiring one to simply point their wand at their intended target while focusing on said target and the spell. Simultaneously, they also had to speak the incantation of course, which was 'Mordeo'. It was pronounced 'mor-deh-OH' according to his studies which translated to 'bite' in Latin.

"Mordeo," he said, sounding it out and finding it a little odd that the emphasis was on the last syllable. "Mor-deh-OH. Mordeo." Then he turned to his quill on his desk and pointed his wand at it. "Mordeo!"

Nothing appeared to happen at first and Jack wondered if he had done something wrong. "Mordeo," he said again, this time directing his wand and focus on his spellbook. Again, there was nothing. Frowning, Jack reached over to pick up his spellbook in order to see what he might have done wrong when it snapped shut to bite him. He jumped back, startled, before reaching for his quill and found it, too, was keen to bite. Jack snorted in amusement and shook his head, looking around as he wondered what else could be enchanted in such a manner. A bed? A blanket? A pillow? That would be something for sure. "I just hope the Biting Jinx is a spell that can be cancelled with the General Counter-Spell," he muttered to himself, eyeing his spellbook.

Spell/Incantation: Ebublio Jinx (Ebublio)
Wand movement: Short slash to the right, shape of an incomplete circle like an almost-finished lowercase 'e'
Narrative:
Reducio
Interestingly enough, the Ebublio Jinx was a spell Jack had read about before when he had been studying the Bubble-Producing Charm in his first year along with other bubble-related spells and incantations. The Ebublio Jinx had been the most confusing to him of all the bubble spells he had read about because he wasn't exactly sure what it was supposed to do. Different sources had suggested that it did different things, from trapping a target in a very large bubble as a type of Containment Charm to causing the target to inflate before exploding into hundreds of bubbles. The only way to figure out what it actually did, Jack decided, was to use it himself.

In the most reliable-seeming of his texts, the wand movement involved making a short slash from left to right before circling around the slash three-quarters of the way so that it made something like an almost-finished lowercase 'e' without the lines touching. The spell was also supposed to produce a blue get of light and be useful against Fire-Dwelling Salamanders. The incantation for which the jinx was named, 'ebublio', was supposed to be pronounced 'ee-BUB-leo', but Jack remembered being unable to find out which language the word's etymology was rooted in.

'Ebullio' was the closest word he had found to the incantation, but one source had said it was Latin for 'I bubble up' while another source had said it was Latin for 'produce in abundance'. That was why he thought that maybe the spell or a version of the spell had once been used to cause the target to explode in an abundance of bubbles. He hoped that wasn't the case, though, as he preferred the idea of the jinx being a sort of Containment Charm. 'Bubbling up' the target made more sense in that case. He had thought in first year that the Ebublio Jinx wasn't taught in school, but evidently it - or at least a version of it - was according to the Fifth Year Charms Syllabus.

Studying in his dorm room when he was alone, Jack attempted to target his chair as he stood across from it. "Ee-BUB-leo," he enunciated slowly. "Eeeeee-BUB-leeeeeo. Ee-BUB-leo. Ebublio." Turning toward his chair, he traced a nearly-complete lowercase 'e' in the air with his wand tip. "Ebublio!" Immediately, a brilliant blue light shot out of his wand toward the targeted chair and a very large bubble encased it. Jack gaped, surprised, and quickly went to his notebook to write down notes. He prodded and poked at the bubble, but it didn't burst.

He remembered his theory in his first year that if the Ebublio Jinx was used alone, it would work as a Containment Charm but that when used in unison with the 'Aqua Eructo' spell, it would cause its victims to inflate and explode into bubbles as something with a name of 'jinx' was more likely to do. He decided it wasn't worth testing out. He didn't want to get in trouble with the potential backlash of the results whether he was right or wrong. It may have been weird to him that a spell that seemed more suited to be a sort of Containment Charm was labeled as a 'jinx', but as long as he knew what it did when he used it, he was fine accepting it for what it was.

Spell/Incantation: Blasting Charm (Deprimo)
Wand movement: Move wand up and circle around to the left, crossing just above where wand started
Narrative:
Reducio
For a spell as destructive as Deprimo, Jack decided to use the Room of Requirement to practice rather than anywhere else. As the spell was said to blast holes in the ground and be powerful enough to shatter the floor of an entire room within seconds, he didn't want to take any chances. If the floor of his dorm room or anywhere else in Hogwarts Castle shattered, he wasn't so sure he could repair the damage done. At least in the special room that met his needs, he felt as safe as he had while practicing so many of his spells before.

Deprimo seemed like a promising spell to learn in case of danger in order to blast the ground out from under the enemy's feet or at the very least to cause a distraction. The incantation in Latin had the translation of 'depress' or to 'press down' or even 'dig deep' in some instances. The wand movement was a bit tricky with its odd little loop that looked like a lasso that crossed over itself, but after several practice tries, Jack thought he had mastered it. "Deprimo," he said to himself as he tested out the pronunciation next. "Deprimo. Deprimo. Deh-PREEM-oh. Deprimo!"

After that, it was just a matter of putting the wand movement and the incantation together - along with his concentration, of course, as the third rule of Charms. Taking a deep breath, he looked around at the solid stone floor of the empty room. "Deprimo!" he cried, making the loop wand movement toward a spot on the ground. At once, the area blasted apart and broke up stone to give way to flying pieces of dirt and earth. Jack blinked and cringed a bit. He really hoped the magic room was keeping the damage contained within itself and would not reflect on the structure of the actual castle in which it was. "Deprimo," he tried again, a little softer and more carefully this time, wondering if he could control the focus and force of the blasts from his wand. The more precise he could make it, the less damage would be caused. Maybe he just needed more concentration. "Deprimo!"

Eventually, the whole floor was broken apart, leaving Jack staring at the ruin. Then, all at once, the stone ground began to repair itself as if the blasts had never been. "Yes!" Jack cheered, grateful yet again for the magic room that met all his requirements. It truly was a splendid thing. Now he knew he had managed to successfully perform the Deprimo spell and he hadn't even had to wreck the school or school grounds to do so!

Spell/Incantation: Toenail-Growing Hex (Cresco Unguibus)
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Narrative:
Reducio
Supposedly, a hex was a stronger and more dangerous dark charm than a jinx. For this reason, Jack was unsure why the Toenail-Growing Hex was known as a hex rather than a jinx. The magic seemed relatively harmless except maybe for prank-playing. He supposed it could really get out of hand (or in this case, out of foot) if the nails got to be too long, but it still didn't seem like all that threatening a dark spell to him.

According to his spellbook, this particular spell had been created by none other than his dormitory's namesake, Severus Snape. That was a pretty fascinating fact, but Jack still couldn't imagine too many practical uses for the spell aside from pranks and maybe being a small hindrance. Even so, like any other spell, it seemed worth learning to the muggle-born student. One never knew when it could unexpectedly come in handy.

Not much was known about the hex given that it was created by a Hogwarts student during his student years, but supposedly its incantation was Cresco Unguibus. As Jack eagerly looked up, 'cresco' was Latin for 'grow' or 'I grow' while 'unguibus' was Latin for 'with claws'. Therefore, the entire incantation translated roughly to 'grow with claws' or 'I grow with claws'. That made enough sense for Jack to understand it. He wondered vaguely if someone who had the hex cast on them could use their toenails as claws after growing them, but eventually, he doubted it. The point of the spell was likely to cause trouble for the target, not to arm them with useful weapons. Still, one never knew.

Since Jack didn't have anyone else to test the spell on, he decided to test it on himself while alone in his dorm room. At least he could just clip his toenails afterward. Hopefully the General Counter-Spell would be enough to stop them from growing if they didn't stop on their own. "Cresco Unguibus," he said slowly. "Cresss-ko Un-GUI-buss. Un-GUI-bus. Cresco Unguibus." The wand movement was another simple point at his target rather than anything fancy. He pondered whether to point his wand at himself or his toenails and eventually decided on the latter. He thought both should have worked just fine, but the latter seemed easier.

"Cresco Unguibus!" Jack said, concentrating on the spell as he cast it on his own feet. He knew he had succeeded when his bare feet - for he had taken his socks and shoes off - began to sprout longer toenails that curled around as they grew. Jack made a face, but was ready with the General Counter-Spell. Now where had he put that toenail clipper?

Spell/Incantation: Blasting Curse (Confringo)
Wand movement: Tracing 'Z' in the air
Narrative:
Reducio
As if blasting the ground wasn't enough, apparently, there was a Blasting Curse with the incantation of Confringo. Jack read that the curse caused the target to explode and that it was commonly used in wizard duels. It seemed a little uncreative to Jack, but exploding things seemed like an easy way to cause damage and distractions. The color of light from the spell was a firey orange according to his text and the wand movement was a simple 'Z'. The incantation 'Confringo' seemed to translate from Latin into 'I break', 'break down' or 'break into pieces'.

It seemed like the spell could be used to explode air itself and that it could be protected against using the Shield Charm. Interested in history as he was, Jack was delighted to learn that the Blasting Curse was invented when someone named Alberta Toothill used it against Samson Wiblin in the All-England Wizarding Duelling Competition sometime before the year 1430. Evidently, Wiblin, who was the favorite, was ultimately defeated by Toothill. Jack surmised that the Blasting Curse must have been powerful indeed.

Once again, Jack decided to use the Room of Requirement in order to practice the destructive curse. The room ended up giving him all sorts of things to explode, including wooden and stone targets and even straw dummies. Pleased with the set-up, Jack rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and sweater and got to work. He began practicing the 'Z' wand movement several times before moving on to practicing the pronunciation of the incantation. "Confringo. Rhymes with 'flamingo'. Confringo. Con-FRING-go. Confringo."

At last, he thought himself ready to practice the actual spell with concentration, the incantation, and the wand movement. "Confringo!" he shouted, forming a 'Z' in the air in the direction of a wooden target board. A firey orange light shot out of the tip of his wand and struck the board, causing it to explode into a million little fragments. "YES!" Jack yelled, jubilant about his success. Then he turned to aim at one of the dummies. "Confringo!" Another jolt of light surged forward from his wand to strike the dummy and cause straw to go flying everywhere before raining softly down. "Confringo!" Bits of stone shattered everywhere in a cloud of dust. "Confringo!" More wood splinters and stone pieces went flying.

Once all his targets had been destroyed, Jack sighed wearily and lay down on the ground to rest. Exploding things really took it out of you, it seemed. He just hoped he hadn't distrubed anyone else in the castle with his destructive deeds.

Spell/Incantation: Flame-Freezing Charm (Flamduratus)
Wand movement: Wave of the wand above head
Narrative:
Reducio
The Flame-Freezing Charm was one Jack was especially eager to learn. After what had happened to Victor burning to death and so many other fire-related incidents at Hogwarts, it seemed like an especially useful spell if a fire was too large to be extinguished by magic or otherwise. It was also useful to him as a fire-dancer who might have needed to work with a flame without the fear of getting burned - even if that did seem like cheating. At the very least, he could have used it to keep himself from being burned during fire-dancing practice if not the actual performances. By using this charm, he could tell when he should have been burned by the warmth or tickling sensation without actually needing to get burned to let him know when he was handling the fire wrong.

The name of the charm seemed like something of a misnomer due to the fact that the flames didn't really freeze or even give the sensation of freezing. Still, it wasn't as if Jack had any power over that, so he moved on to the incantation and its etymology. 'Flamduratus' seemed to translaste to 'flaming' in Latin. This was a little perplexing to the student as he thought it might have had something to do with the fact that the flames didn't really burn, but again, he wasn't the inventor of the spell, so he decided not to let it bother him. His job instead was to learn about it, study it, master it, and be able to perform it.

In reading more about the spell, Jack discovered its historical significance. Apparently, witches and wizards who were supposed to be burned at the stake in the Middle Ages for witchcraft or magic often used the spell to make the fire harmless and simply acted as though it was burning them instead. What they did when people got tired of waiting for them to burn, Jack wasn't sure, but again, he supposed that wasn't his concern. Another historical use of the spell was during an act of Malecrit's Alas, I've Transfigured My Feet when an actor playing Crapaud used it to protect himself from flames engulfing the stage as he delivered the final speech of the play.

Satisfied with these little history lessons, Jack decided to practice the spell in the Room of Requirement again to avoid accidentally burning anything or anyone up in case the spell went wrong. The wand movement - a wave of a wand above the head - was easy enough that he didn't worry too much about practicing it before he performed it for real. The incantation, however, was slightly more complex. "Flam-dur-AH-tus," he tried to sound out. "Flamduratus. Flamduratus."

Eventually, when he thought he had gotten it down, he conjured up a small fire in the fire pit that the magic room had graciously provided him. "Incendio!" Taking a deep breath once the fire was burning, he held his wand up above his head and waved it toward the fire, crying, "Flamduratus!" He hoped he was doing it right because he still wanted to direct the magic at the fire while keeping the wave of the wand above his head as instructed.

A white light shot out of his wand toward the flames, but once it was gone, Jack saw no change. His mouth twisted uncertainly as he gingerly reached out to touch the fire. It tickled him and he pulled his hand back out of it immediately, but it didn't burn. He smiled, satisfied with his results.

Spell/Incantation: Freezing Spell Variation (Glacius Duo)
Wand movement: Forward slash of the wand
Narrative:
Reducio
Next on the list of spells Jack meant to teach himself before his Fifth Year was the Freezing Spell Variation, Glacius Duo. It was supposedly more powerful than Glacius, but less powerful than the variation Glacius Tria. The etymology was pretty straightforward - 'glacius' meant 'ice' in Latin while 'duo' meant 'two'. It was the Freezing Spell at the second level of power, after all; perhaps twice as powerful as the original spell. The wand movement was a simple forward slash of the wand and the light that the spell produced was supposed to be blue in color.

The spell was meant to freeze the target in ice. Jack could think of a few uses for this spell, including freezing enemies in place so they couldn't move. As he didn't want to cause any frozen or permanent damage to wherever he practiced the spell, though, he chose again to practice within the Room of Requirement, useful as it was. This time, the room was filled with targets and dummies for him to freeze.

Taking out his wand, he wasted no time in getting to work. He already knew the incantations 'Glacius' and 'Lumos Duo', so he figured it would be a cinch to pronounce the incantation 'Glacius Duo'. A foward slash of the wand as the wand movement was also pretty easy, so he didn't have to practice that more than a few times before deciding he had gotten it down. "Glacius Duo. Glay-see-us Doo-oh. GLAY-see-us DOO-oh," he spoke, emphasizing the proper syllables on the last try. Then it was time to actually try out the spell.

Pointing at a board with a bullseye in the center, Jack made a foward slash with his wand while shouting, "Glacius...Duo!" He got distracted thinking about the original Freezing Charm, however, and hesitated before adding 'Duo'. The result was a barely-frosted board. "Oops," Jack murmured, smiling sheepishly to himself. "Let's try that again, shall we?" It was odd to him that the wand movement for Glacius seemed a lot more complicated than its stronger variation, but he wasn't about to complain.

"Glacius Duo!" he said, this time slashing his wand forward at a straw dummy off to the right. A bright blue light shot from the tip of his wand and encased the dummy in a block of solid ice. "Whoa!" Jack went over to inspect his handiwork, knocking on the ice to test its solidity. Well, if Glacius Duo was going to be that much easier than Glacius to cast, he didn't see much reason to bother with the latter spell anymore.

Spell/Incantation: Reductor Curse (Reducto)
Wand movement: Sideways 'V' with the point going to the right
Narrative:
Reducio
The Reductor Curse seemed to be another destructive spell along with the Blasting Curse (Confringo), the Blasting Charm (Deprimo), and the Exploding Charm (Bombarda) he had learned. The purpose of the Reductor Curse was to blast solid objects into pieces according to his spellbook. Instead of an actual blast or explosion being the point of the spell like the Blasting Curse or the Exploding Charm, however, the point seemed to be to reduce a larger solid object into smaller objects like into a fine mist or ash. After all, the incantation, 'Reducto', translated from Latin into 'reduce' in English. In any case, the spell seemed useful for getting large obstacles out of one's way.

The wand movement for the spell was a sideways 'V' with the point going to the right - in other words, a 'greater-than' symbol. The light its magic was supposed to produce when done correctly was blue. For obvious reasons, Jack once again chose to practice the spell in the magical room that met all his needs so he could avoid doing damage to anything he wasn't supposed to. When he stepped into that room, though, he was met with a solid wall of stone bricks.

Wondering if this was the room's sense of humor, he stood before the wall and tested out the wand movement a few times without saying the incantation. As he did so, he wondered vaguely what had caused this spell to be labeled as a curse rather than a regular spell or charm and if it had something to do with the entropy of things being reduced. Shrugging off his curiosity since he had no way of satisfying it, he looked back at his book and began to sound out the incantation.

"Reducto," he tried. Then again. "Reducto. Re-DUCK-toh. Reducto. Reducto!" Once he felt confident enough to try the actual spell by combining the incantation and wand movement, he faced the stone wall with his wand out and performed the 'greater-than' symbol with his wand. "Reducto!"

A blue light appeared as the bricks in the wall before him blasted into bits of rubble and dust. Jack shielded himself with an arm, wondering why there couldn't have been a quieter or subtler version of the spell that simply caused the bricks to crumble into dust rather than be blasted. At least he seemed to have done the spell right, however, provided the bricks were supposed to be blown to bits like that. Curious, he proceeded to test out the various types of exploding, blasting, and generally destructive spells on the rest of the brick wall the room had provided him with in order to compare their effects and be able to determine what would be best for what situations in the potential future.

The room of requirement was perfectly built for practicing charms. It could produce anything one needed to learn - alarm clocks to stop, paperweights to grow and shrink, and all variety of object to levitate. Unfortunately, George had never given a moment's thought to using objects designed for practiced to practice his charms. Why on earth would you, when the student body of Hogwarts gave you everything you could possibly desire in terms of possible targets? Best of all, this year (next year, for the average student) George would be learning the biting jinx... and jinxes were the most fun of all to practice on your dorm mates.

However, it was most fair for the pranker to suffer the prank beforehand, so that he knew what harm he was inflicting on his housemates. He'd cast the knockback jinx on June as a joke, only to find out later that being the victim of that jinx was actually quite painful. It had never been his intention to leave her with a bruised-up back, only to send her flying, and if he had been victim to the jinx beforehand he would have had the wisdom to avoid making a temporary enemy out of her. In this instance, he thought that ti would be wisest to practice on part of his tea set. If it injured him, he would deserve it, and the set would have its rightful revenge for all the times which George had smashed it with a hammer and then fixed it up to smash again.

"Mordeo!" he said, clearly enunciating the spell and pointing his wand with great purpose toward the teapot. He saw nothing change. He let his arms drop by his sides and stamped the heel of his shoe down in frustration, worried that perhaps he was losing his edge at charms after a full year of not reading ahead in his textbooks, focusing on his other passions, which were sleeping and eating. Of course, there was only one way that George knew that could instantly relieve his frustrations with his studies. It was hammer time for ol' teapot.

And yet, when he reached out to take hold of it, he recoiled in shock as the handle closed shut on his fingers like a jaw, biting him on his fingers. "Ow!" he said, shaking the pain off his hand and looking down to find that he'd been market with little teapot teethmarks. "Oh... you bastard!"

He hefted his bag up and swung it around by the strap, destroying the teapot as it flew off the table and shattered on the floor, its pieces doomed to lay forever in disrepair until they were swept up into a dustpan and thrown away. Serves them right for biting...

All the practising with older students was fun. Not with dummies, but with actual people. It seemed there were a lot of students from her own year who also proved to be great spell-casters that they joined such sessions as well.

This one spell seemed to be quite a treat. Even though being simple in incantation and quite graceful in its hand movement, somehow it required a lot of precision. To successfully cast it in battle, you'd have to be quick. You have to practice it diligently to perfect it. So she was revising the spell and honing her wand movement all the way from her dorm to the classroom.

The classroom seemed like it was divided into a sort of circles on the ground. Professor always tried to make practising fun, so it felt like we were going to run in circles. And we had to. It was not only a test of concentration and spell-casting. It was a test of stamina. We didn't need to evade the spells, we just needed to feel how it would feel like — to trip. Probably it was something about understanding the effect of the spell in order to have a better visualisation of the cast. Very clever, to be completely honest.

So they began. She aimed the wand towards her target, then quickly arched it down and moved it slightly to the right.

"Offendo!" she exclaimed as she was moving clockwise against her opponent, who immediately tripped as he was walking but didn't fall.

At first, she was afraid to move. Can you trip if you don't move? But the rules were the rules. And as she started to make step after step, she felt a strange vibration in her feet as if there was a stone or something, but she clearly saw there was nothing and still she tripped over the heavy invisible object. The mind games with mind.

"Offendo!" she repeated the wand movement in exactly the same way and smiled at how easy it was after you saw the effect of your own spell at least once and then after you experienced what it was. She noted she should use this approach more often when learning new spells.

They needed to change direction after a few full circles and a dozen of successful spells. She also felt nauseous, but she didn't know from what exactly — from going in the same direction, or from the constant feeling that you were about to trip. She did think it might be similar to what astronauts experienced in their training — at least what she read about them.

They tried it while standing; they tried it while running (hitting the floor was more painful in this case, probably even more painful than naturally stumbling over something). She even tried it wandless. The effect was weaker, indeed, but at least she made it almost from the first attempt.

And very soon after that, her stamina was completely depleted, as if after an enduring duel. A duel of a single spell.

Classes are done, and Raizel has some free time. The problem is, how would she spend it? The girl, after wandering around Hogwarts, had found herself in the library. Surely spending this time to do her homework would be the best way, the girl has something else in mind, something else that she wants to do although she doesn't know what exactly she wants. Walking aimlessly down the aisles, she checked the books on shelves one by one, hoping to find something intriguing. The books that she had seen were pretty normal looking in her opinion, not enough to spark her interest. She sighed out of disappointment, nothing was catching her attention until a book of charms came into her view. It was sitting there on one of the tables. Looking at it closely, it was a book for second years. Either someone accidentally left their book or that's a property of the library.

Either way, Raizel took this chance to give it a quick read, flipping through the pages. She stopped, wondering about a couple of things as she stared at the book. She grinned rather mischievously. It wouldn't hurt to learn one spell right? And so she began looking through the pages for a spell.

"Freezing… charm…?" She wondered out loud, staring at the page with a tilt of her head. The effects seem to be cool, being able to stop one's movement. It might come in handy too if she encounters a situation that demands its use. "Okay, this one." The girl said to herself, doing her best not to be loud or else she might get kicked out of the library. She looked around for a piece of parchment and a quill, taking a quick note of the spell's wand movements and incantation just in case someone comes to look for this book.

While the owner of the book, if there's any, is not around just yet, might as well use this time to familiarize with the spell. The wand movement doesn't seem to be that complicated. Two mountain peaks with a line underneath it. She took out her wand, simply mimicking the movements a couple of times to get the hang of it. After that, she moved on to the incantation. "ih-MOH-byoo-luhs…" the young girl uttered the proper way of saying the incantation, repeating it in her mind as she stood up from her seat to leave the library.

With the wand movement and incantation now in mind, a parchment where she drew and wrote those just in case she forgets, all she needs now is… a place to practice in and someone to help her with it. The charms class should be the perfect place to practice and probably the most safest one if she doesn't want anyone else getting hurt just in case it backfires on her. Raizel walked around the castle for quite a while in search of someone who could help her, even mustering the courage to ask anyone that she comes across the hallways. Even though she was embarrassed in doing something like this, she was too determined to learn a spell to let things get to her.

Fortunately though, someone was kind enough to volunteer despite her being a first year trying to learn a second year spell and an older student too. The girl was truly grateful of them helping her out and maybe, she could even learn a couple of tips for the spell if the older student had learned it already. Now that she has someone to practice with, it is time to look for a place to practice in. After walking around the castle for a while, they had decided to just check the charms classroom if it's free. After arriving in front of the said room, the two students made sure it wasn't being used by others upon entering, scanning the room. Once it is clear, it is time for practice.

The two students stood just to the opposite of each other with Raizel having her wand at the ready. Now that she is facing the older student, she can't help but feel nervous about this, afraid of things going bad and ending up hurting them. The student simply gave her an assuring smile, perhaps a way of encouragement. She kept her wand steady, calming herself. Focus. She recalled what she was taught in class, the three rules to be precise.

Concentration and focus. Important rules there. Her eyes on the wand first and then her target. Second rule, wand movement. What was it again? Right, two mountain peaks with a line underneath. Finally, incantation. "ih-MOH-byoo-luhs." She whispered and then repeated it a couple of times. Now that she got all three, it's time to put it into action. She signaled for the student to start and they did. They started jogging towards her at a pace that's enough to give the first year some time to cast the spell.

Raizel made the two mountain peaks with a line gesture underneath it in a quick and precise manner. "ih-MOH-byoo-luhs!" She casted and her wand let out a blue light as the spell shot out from it. Her target was hit and was stopped on their track by the freezing charm, signifying its successful casting. She can't help but feel relieved and happy but upon seeing the frozen student in front of her, she chuckled sheepishly, feeling bad for them since they would need to wait for this to wear off.

Another week is over, things are going great so far and after learning one of the second year spells in charms before, Raizel somehow had that thirst for learning more. She did some research about the spells that’s being taught in the second year classes, looking for a spell that’s easy enough to learn, nothing with complicated wand gestures. She did find a couple of them and to her surprise, a few of them were written on one of the pages in her small notebook where she had taken notes of the charms that her father used to show her. She looked at the words written there as she sat by the great lake on one of the smooth rocks, squinting her eyes to try and understand what her younger self had written. “A… Arresto Momentum.” That’s certainly what it says there and as for the hand movement, it was a capital M. Sounds easy enough. Based on what she had researched, this was the slowing charm. Should be useful enough when trying to break someone’s fall or something.

Raizel took out her wand, staring at the drawing that she had made and then testing it out with her wand. It didn’t take her that long to memorize the movements. The challenge will be on the enunciation of the spell. It’s quite long, which means she needs to say it in a clear and fast manner if faced in a situation where it is immediately needed. Tough. Nevertheless, she won’t let that stop her. For a practice target, she picked up a rock. This is one of the reasons why she picked the great lake for the place to practice this. Since this is a slowing charm, she thought that she could try slowing the descent of the rock once she threw it up in the air. Hitting someone with it if it fails, aside from herself, is less likely in a place that’s void of people at the moment. People hang out by the lake, take a swim in it even despite it being against the rules. Guess the cool water is very tempting to most students.

It’s time to practice, here goes nothing. Raizel threw the rock up in the air, but as she tried to hurriedly do the gesture for the spell and pointed it towards the falling rock, the wand slipped out of her hand and she ended up dropping. She winced when that happened and then she heard the rock drop back down to the ground. Attempt number one, failure. Was she too nervous? Or perhaps got too excited and got too hasty? Either way, that failed. She picked up the wand and then the rock, taking a deep breath to calm herself and tightening her grip on her wand this time, not wanting to accidentally throw it into the shallow waters. Second try, hopefully, this will work. She threw the rock up into the air once again and with a precise movement, managed to make the capital ‘M’ gesture with her wand. “Arresto Moment-” before she could finish casting it, the rock was already close to the ground. That made Raizel pout, a look of disappointment on her face. She shook her head, not letting that get to her. “Third time’s a charm.” she uttered. Maybe throwing it a lot higher would give her enough time to cast the spell then try to lessen the distance to improve her speed in casting it once she got used to it.

“C’mon, get your head in the game.” Raizel uttered as she prepared for her 3rd attempt. Focus. Her eyes are on the rock and then her wand, keeping her hold on it very firm. She launched the rock into the air, raising her hand and made a quick capital M gesture with her wand. “Arresto Momentum! (ah-REST-oh mo-MEN-tum)” Just before the rock could hit the ground, it stopped, no, it slowed down to the point that it seemed to have stopped. Looking at it closer, it was still moving, just a bit. Raizel sighed in relief that it worked this time but she doesn’t have the time to celebrate just yet for she still has another spell to learn.

Second part of the practice session starts now and this time, it’s all about nullifying the effects of certain spells. Earlier, she had found out about the slowing charm and then recalled what happened when she practiced the Freezing Charm, it wouldn’t hurt to learn a counter-spell so they won’t have to wait out for the effect to end. She felt bad for the one who helped her that time but she didn’t leave them of course and stayed with them until the spell wore off. Not wanting for something like that to happen again, a way to quickly end a spell’s effect is needed to be learned. Since she was already keen on learning the slowing charm, she had taken it as a chance to learn the General Counter-Spell, Finite Incantatem, to cancel out the effect on her target. At the moment, the rock remained suspended in the air, ever so slowly descending to the ground. She doesn’t know how long the spell will last so she has to be quick unless she wants to throw it again and recast it. She doesn’t mind that but why waste this precious time.

Taking a quick look at her notes, the wand movement was a bit more complicated than that of the Slowing Charm. She looked at it closely, studying the figure that she had drawn based on the book of second year charms. The movement was that of a shield, a medieval shield to be exact, like those of knights. Trying it out without the incantation, it was rather tricky and she can’t help but feel a bit impatient due to the fact that the rock won’t remain slowed down for too long. There she goes again, getting too hasty. First things first, she should calm down. If the rock drops, she could just cast the spell once more and that gives her more time to practice the slowing charm. She is still making progress. With that in mind, she got her focus back just as the spell on the rock had worn off.

Raizel picked it up, throwing it up just a couple of inches above her hand before catching it, just a way to calm herself some more before continuing with her practice session. “Stay cool.” she whispered to herself, taking a deep breath and then exhaling it out. She threw the rock up into the air, repeating what she had practiced earlier. “Arresto Momentum!” she casted as she made a capital M gesture with her wand, slowing down the descending rock once more. “Finite Incantatem! (fi-NEE-tay in-can-TAH-tem)” the young Gryffindor followed it up, making the shield-shaped gesture with her wand. She watched as her wand’s tip let out a red glow, signifying the casting of the spell and just as it hit the rock, the slowing charm was canceled out by it. Raizel watched as the rock descended normally to the ground, a smile of relief present on her face. Practicing two spells though seemed to have drained her out a bit. Just tiring. A break would be nice and then after that, she should continue her practice again.

Zach is very enthusiastic in his first year of school at Hogwarts. He is always eager to learn something, so he likes almost all subjects. Charms is his favorite. His interest in Charms grew long before he went to Hogwarts when a professor came to his family to tell him that he is a wizard. He saw the professor magically fixing the broken vase he had broken before. Since then, he has always been excited when he was about to learn Charms.

Like other days, Zach always came to the library to do his homework. That day, the homework was not as much as the days before, so he had time to explore the library and search for a book to read in his free time. He walked from section to section until he found a book that he thought was for students in the second year or higher.

Then he sat on the floor and tried to skim the book. He flipped the pages one by one while skimming the content of the pages until he found a page that contained the explanation of the General Counter-Spell, Finite Incantatem. It is said that the spell stops some minor effects of jinxes, hexes, or curses. "I think I need to learn this spell in case something happens to me," he mumbled, "so I can protect myself." He read the page thoroughly, trying to understand the content. When he finished reading, he went back to his desk with the book he had read and put it on the desk.

"I want to try it," Zach thought. "Is it okay to try it here?" He looked around the library. No one was near him at that time. The library looked spacious and quiet. He looked hesitant, but then he said, "It's okay as long as nobody sees me." He steadied his heart to try the spell. To know if he succeeded or not, he levitated the quill on the desk. He cast, "Wingardium Leviosa." The quill levitated for some centimeters. "Okay, now the spell." He pronounced the spell carefully, "Finite Incantatem (fi-NEE-tay in-can-TAH-tem)." He repeated it several times and then practiced the wand movement. He drew a shield shape with his wand several times until he was sure that he was ready to cast the spell. "Finite Incantatem." He cast the spell with the wand movement and clear pronunciation. The quill did not levitate anymore. It fell slowly onto the desk. He practiced the spell several times until he was completely satisfied with the results of the practice.

After learning the General Counter Spell, Zach continued reading the book. There was a lot of spell information, including the Freezing Spell and Immobulus. At first, Zach was just going to skim the pages that contained the Freezing Spell information. But when he finished skimming the book and wanted to put it back in its original section, he instinctively decided to read it once more. He felt that he must learn it, so he read it again. The spell was Immobulus, which would freeze or immobilize the target, living or non-living, from moving. The pronunciation was ih-MOH-byoo-luhs. "The wand movement is drawing two peaks, resembling mountains, with a line underneath," Zach mumbled while reading the line. "It's a little bit complicated," Zach said. He tried the wand movement with his own wand, making sure that he made the right wand movement.

When Zach was sure that he finally understood the spell, he put the book back in its original place. He accidentally hit the shelves with his shoulder when turning back. Some books looked shifted from their place, and some almost fell. Zach prepared his wand and pointed it towards the books. He drew the wand movement when the book fell and then cast "Immobulus!". But the book was faster than Zach's casting, so it fell on Zach's head and made a loud sound. Not wanting to attract attention from the librarian, he hurriedly put the book back and moved quickly to his desk before leaving the library.

Zach walked to the owlery to see his pet owl, Zephyr. It was time for him to play with Zephyr. But when he saw it, Zephyr looked stressed. Zach didn't know what had happened. Zephyr's eyes suddenly looked terrified and made it anxious. Zach turned around and saw a giant rat there. The rat was twice the size of his pet owl and was moving towards them, making terrible squeaking sounds. Zach quickly prepared his wand and did the same as he had done in the library when the book fell, but he did it faster. "Immobulus!". The rat was frozen in its place, with a very scary face. Zach hurriedly put the owl back in its cage and left the owlery.

Zach arrived at the Grounds panting heavily. "That was terrifying," Zach said to his owl, Zephyr. "I will ask for help to take care of the rats. Now you just fly away until I come back. See ya," Zach opened the cage and let Zephyr fly away.

Learning Tracking Spell
Incantation: Appare Vestigium (ah-PAR-ay ves-TEE-jee-um)
Wand Movement: Aim at an area

Professor Fresnel's classes were positive. Like bright and charming, and vivid. To the point when they are fun and not annoyingly fun. But when it came to practice with the upper classmen, it seemed like those practising lessons were a bit more serious. But maybe they only seemed like that, as Meenauh had to focus and concentrate harder than just her year's spells.

The Tracking Spell was considered a simple spell, as it didn't need complex wand movement, like the Fire Rope spell, for example. It was what comes after that was difficult — interpreting the results. Which was an intriguing thing as usually it was the spell that needed the most work, sometimes it was the maintenance that was harder, but here it didn't make sense to cast the spell, if you couldn't achieve any satisfactory results out of its execution.

Meenauh's goal was to achieve clarity. Was there a way to cast it to see the trails clearer than if others cast it? She didn't know yet. The pleasant surprise was that there were few students to come practising at this hour, so more space to explore and analyse.

Analyse... One of her favourite words. Looking, watching, seeing and then absorbing, and then processing. It was more pleasant than eating the most delicious food, or watching the sunset. And the discovery of something new was always the best.

She looked around, and nothing seemed to be out of order. The classroom was clean, and the space was calm. But Meenauh knew that during the day there were a lot of students casting spells, so the traces of magic were everywhere.

"Appare Vestigium!" she pointed at the area in front of her with no students in vicinity. The gold dust erupted like a mix of wind and flame from her wand, carefully filling the area and then floating down like volcanic ash, revealing lots of various trails all over the place.

She noticed the wobbling of the air, which might have been Protego. Various light of white or something, might be the Flipendo Maxima or something, considering the upper years were practising before her as well. She quickly remembered the syllabus of the sixth years, and it might be that some of the spells would leave noticeable traces, like Langlock, for example. Nothing to emit, maybe can't be tracked.

While she was thinking of causal relationships, the trails started to fade, so she quickly drew her wand again and: "Appare Vestigium!"

The trails revived again, and she managed to analyse them again. She wondered that only saw the other spells, not the trace of her own spell she cast just a minute ago. So the tracking spell couldn't track the tracking spell? Or maybe they were too synchronised — she cast it, and the dust was floating in the same wavelengths as the previous spell, so she didn't see it rather than couldn't see.

She was able to track a few other spells she couldn't place correctly right away, but in general the experience was satisfying. She will definitely start using it during her patrols to track the rule breakers.
