Magical Race/Talent and Special Ability aesthetic update
In an effort to make the race/talent and special ability selection process more clear, there have been some aesthetic changes made to the thread located here: [link]. The same information, but made more clear!
In particular, the magical races/talents now have designated ability names if they were not there before, and have been outlined like special abilities. This well help new and existing players easily see the abilities each race/talent has, as well as making patching races/talents a lot easier on staff going forward.
Also of note, any race/talent and special abilities effects in the sports systems will be found in those individual sport system pages. This is to avoid having to update several threads with information from each individual sport whenever patches happen. The sport systems will have some aesthetic updates done to their magical race/talent and special ability section soon to make finding that information easier as well! Please join the staff in welcoming Fang Hui-Ying as the new Professor of History of Magic! Hui-Ying has been with the community since September of last year, and now with their Gryffindor student has been a broom racing captain contributing to sports development. They are also an established mentor contributing to welcoming new members to the community. We're now excited to work with her in yet another capacity of getting our History of Magic class completed and seeing her work on the staff team!

The Removal of Summer Games for Player Characters
Starting next summer we will no longer have Hogwarts playing in the Summer Games. To clarify, summer games will still exist for NPCs. They will not exist for PCs, they will have had their 'win' for the year determined by our pre-existing systems. If two teams 'tie' it means nothing besides the fact that two houses get to celebrate a win.
Reasons for this include:
This change has resulted in systematic changes throughout the site. Some of the rules we have regarding sports would seem arbitrary. As such, NPCs will be now able to play in the same sport as their PC. The reason that they were previously not allowed to have the same sport is because of the risk of a conflict of interest -- playing on both sides of a match would create issues with the integrity of the game. As this is a non-issue, we are removing this restriction. Please refer to Project Announcements for more details.
In addendum, players are now able to change sports at any time during the school year. To clarify: a player can still only be in one sport at a time. A player can leave a team and as soon as they are removed from the team's official roster, they can apply to other teams. A player can be on multiple wait lists at the same time, but as soon as a user is added to a team, they are removed from all other waitlists. This is a change from our previous system where a player picked their sport and they would have to stay in the same sport through the entire year. They would be able to change their sport after Sept 1. This is no longer the case as a player can move between sports at any point during the year. - Multiple users end up getting to play twice, which can be hard for players to keep up with and this also forces the staff to explain (or re-explain) that players simply get two opportunities to win, they can't win twice. This removes this explanation.

September 1st has dawned, the beginning of a new year at Hogwarts. And for you, that means the privilege of a once-in-a-lifetime boat trip to the castle.

iNPC Updates are Now Open
iNPC updates are now open for the month of September (last day being Sept 30) in anticipation of the Fall Ball.

- I do not know the date of the Fall Ball. The Fall Ball planning committee will determine the date and once it is known, we will share it publicly.
- I do not know when the iNPCs will arrive at Hogwarts. The iNPCs will likely arrive a few IC days before the Fall Ball is scheduled to occur and then remain at the school for a few days after. We anticipate about 2 weeks IC but this might change depending on the date we get. This will be announced when we know.
- To apply for an iNPC your PC must be registered with Index. If they are not registered with index, we will not be able to approve your iNPC. Please do not wait until the last minute because you may loose the opportunity to create an iNPC in time for the ball.
- You can only have one iNPC, you cannot deactivate your iNPC and get a new one. They are tied to your player character account.

Congratulations to Koko Riddle, our newest prefect. Koko returns to the role after having previously served as prefect a few years back. She has recently impressed us with her tenure as co-captain of the green-and-silver quidditch team and we cannot wait to see what she brings to the table

INDEX CHANGES
Some changes have been discussed in the past weeks and will be put in place today, concerning Index Registration as well as Ability/Race Application. From now on:
- Ability applications have their own thread, separate from Race applications.
- Races and talents can only be applied for during index registration, in the index registration thread.
So how do I apply for a Talent or Race?
Actually, it's not much different from how you would apply now. Races still have the same requirements (races need to be applied for in the 30 days after your validation + a 500 word application submitted), but the application form is now included in Index Registration. When registering, you may pick a special race/talent or remain human. Once you are registered, you may no longer apply for a special race or talent.I have joined the site recently and already registered, does that mean I cannot be a Special Race anymore?

The Index team asks that you please DO NOT post in the old threads registration/ability threads anymore. Once all current applicants have been looked at these threads will be locked. We ask that you use the new application threads instead.
Reminder: Backstory Changes
A reminder on what Index look for when updating a backstory, which includes any abilities, character connections and looks.
- Profile Cards are truthful. They are a source of information for players OOC and we expect them not to be lying. This means that the bloodstatus is a constant, not the believed bloodstatus that is later changed because of big reveals that parents are actually other people. Information that can change can be applied for, but it will be treated as a recent IC change. You will have to think of a reason why this happened.
- Nothing that has been narrated can be changed. This would be unfair to the people you have rped with as the information they learned from your post would suddenly be untrue.
- No change of natural looks whenever posted in an RP thread. Same reason as the point above.
