The welshman could use the help, sure. But not right now. Right now he had things and creatures to attend to, and a partially nibbled on sandwich to finish eating. He could send the boy an owl later when he needed the help. Or rather, when he was ready to do the work, or at least supervise the boy doing the work. He was actually a bit proud with how diplomatic he had worked out the situation, aside from the random girl showing up being all hyper and then running off because of some prank.

"I do believe you have classes you could be attending to, or do you need something else. I can owl you when it's time to get a tree."

He raised an eyebrow, and waited. This was hopeful just going to go nice and smooth and he'd be done in no time. The kid would be helped, with hard work to occupy his mind and let him relax a bit, and all in all, he would have more time. And because there was a decided lack of screen to watch stargate on, he would fill that extra time with more work. He might even be able to bring in some new creatures for R.O.A.M...

“Yes, sir!” Oliver didn’t want to waste any more of the man’s time. He could tell that the professor had places to go, things to do. He would hate to encroach on any of his duties. That would be horribly rude, and Oliver would rather have fingernails ripped out than be slightly impolite.

“Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity, I really appreciate it,” he said sincerely, bowing his head slightly. Truly, he did. The one thing that he always strove for in his life was the humility to learn from those older and wiser than him. It was mostly his grandfather who had instilled this into him. And, he knew that it was a little strange, this whole conversation, including the interruptions and general oddity of his request, but it had all in all gone much better than Oliver had expected.

If the professor had nothing else to say, Oliver would take his leave. Again, he didn’t want to waste any more of the man’s time than he had to. And now, yes, he had some things to get done, but at least he had something to look forward to later. It would make the monotony just that much more bearable.

The young Gryffindor would make his way over to the stables, he had been there before even though it was just to listen to the noises of the creatures. He would never break in that place without permission, but he found the sound calming, soothing even. One of his favorite places where either near the Great Lake or on the small hill close to the Stables where he spend his time reading. Sometimes coincidence played a trick and let him hear the sound of the creature he was reading about in just that moment. He would not be able to stop giggling whenever that would happen.

But today he was not here to read or listen to the creatures. He had two reasons to visit the door of the tall man, that he quickly learned to not judge by his appearance or the roughness in his voice. The first reason was to indeed ask a few questions, however another reason was to warn the students. He would need to as he did not want the same thing to happen to them. It would probably frustrate them or confuse them, so a warning would not hurt anyone. That exactly was the reason why Alan was heading towards the stables, a wooden sign carried underneath his arm. He was sure the wizard would not mind or even notice another sign with all those he had already put up.

His smile reached his eyes as he found the perfect spot for his sign that he placed rather close to the other sign. The sign on a wooden post that he carried around found his way on the ground and Alan began to try to get the sign into the ground. He would use a stone that he found laying around to kind of use it like a hammer to hit the sign into the earth. A concentrated look on his face as the sound echoed through the place.

The sign read in his rather messy but still very readable handwriting, as he had painted with waterproof paint and a brush - “KEEP IN MIND – Use matte ink as the Nifflers might steal an owl with shiny ink!” He was proud with how nice it looked with the messy envelope he doodled at the top right of the wooden sign. The color already dried and the sign looked pretty awesome and useful in the second years mind, as he continued to hammer the sign nto the earth with a hand sized rock.

After he was done with the task he had given hmself, Alan brushed off his hands at the side of his pants and placed the hand sized rock on top of the sign, trying to balance it so that it would not fall down. However it might already fall when he was coming back from the short visit he planned for Griffith. After all there could be a storm jus suddenly showing up. He raised his gaze towards the Door and ran towards it, a silly grin on his face before he boldly knocked on the door. Only then noticing the cord next to the door and pulling it, hoping for the professor to make an appearance. To shorten the time of his wait he began to hum a soft tune.

Someone was at the door. He hated it when someone was at the door. So far, only one kid had pulled the cord actually needing help with a creature. Sure, some of the other kids had needed help, but help that he shouldn't have had to provide. The man grumbled to himself audibly as he set down a large metal bucket with a clang and headed for the door. It took him roughly two minutes to get there and crack it open. What he saw made him actively want to slap himself in the face. It was the Gryffindor boy, the one that had gotten beaten up, was crying and then had immediately turned around and screamed that the welshman was "mothy"

Wonderful, fantastic, just what he needed in life. Making a mental note that part of his job was to talk to kids, and he was going to do it, one way or another, he started off with the question he gave to almost everyone who found themselves ringing his door.

"What do you want."

Come to think of it, wasn't this the owl kid? Alan Vanes? Right, and he had also shown up for the R.O.A.M event. The professor didn't let any of his thoughts show up on his face, at least not clearly, and he made sure to only keep the door open a crack. Just enough for his head to be easily visible. Not enough for a little boy to slip through.

Alan was standing in front of the door, waiting with a lack of patience caused by a lot of excitement that was clearly noticeable in the way his eyes lit up when he heard heavy footsteps coming closer. He straightened up a bit and a bright smile pulled the corner of his lips up, when he saw the door opening. He stared at the tall professor, who was dressed like he usually did. He did not waste any time apparently, directly asking what bothered him and Alan was sure he must be kind of busy, so Alan too decided to not waste any time.

”Hello professor, I hope you are having a great day! I am sure you remember me from R.O.A.M, correct?”, he greeted enthusiastically, but not even giving any time to respond to his question. It was clearly meant to be rhetoric, since Alan was sure the professor would not let anyone close to a creature without supervising them. ”I am actually here for two things!”, he announced, holding up two fingers with a happy look on his face. Congrats, this boy could count.

”So the first thing would be that I put up a cool sign over there with a tip for the other students!”, he explained as he stepped aside to give the professor a view on a sign, that Alan now was pointing at. A sign that if the professor knew his environment probably showed that it was fairly new. So after a second he grinned and stepped back in front of the professor.

”Secondly, I had some questions?”, he added nervously.

He didn't care about a sign. It would be obvious to anyone looking that it was done by some kid, so there really wasn't any danger of anyone taking it seriously. And giving the kid attention was not the best way to discourage random signs. Whatever, at least Mr. Vanes had questions. Hopefully relevant to the care of magical creatures and not something like 'which is cuter a cat or a dog' or 'my mom doesn't like pets but I want a parrot' or something equally inane.

"Alright, let's hear them."

He wondered what it was about him that made students want to come to the door. He had thought that the lack of any signs of welcome would keep them away, but perhaps it was the fascination with the forbidden? Even though it was allowed to go to the door, he supposed that the fact that they weren't welcome to come and randomly chat made them want to see who was living in the stone fortress.

Regardless, he was here to do a job, and his job involved kids. He was perfectly okay with that, he knew what he had signed up for. He wasn't going to back out and refuse to help them just because they weren't his favorite. He just wasn't going to be thrilled about it.

The second year looked at the older man, his smile reaching his eyes now upon getting the attention he required to get the answers to all the questions that had been bubbling in him ever since the lesson about Crups. He reminded Senkel, the small quirky crup that just had a thing for laces and he wondered if the mischievous pup was gnawing around on Griffith's stuff in his office or the stables, the place that mostly was his office. Would it look like an office though? The young lion had his doubts, but all the thought made him zone out, until he snapped out of it and grinned lightly at the grumpy professor.

”So... so... Do the pups still live with you or did you give them away? Can I know how Senkel is doing and well something more random, how would you feed an animal if you do not want to buy the bad stuff from the stores? Like I already know not to give animals boiled bones, are normal bones fine? I am thinking about getting a pet soon and I don't know how to plan their diet, because I couldn't really find a good book about it!”, he rambled and his pattern of speech was fast, maybe straining yet not too fast to misunderstand what he was saying.

Another thing popped up in his mind, making his eyes widen. ”What about toys! Toys and activity is important right, but I read and heard so much about cats and dogs hurting themselves on their squeaky toys... So what should I get the pet? I would ask a vet, but I am curious and you are the only one getting close to the term vet... just like a magical one with even more knowledge about different animals! So what toys?”, he asked sheepishly, hoping that the older man would not send him away, yet he believed he had a reason to be professor and a professor becomes professor because they like to share their knowledge, right?

"Don't worry, you don't need a vet to answer your questions. I can direct you to the path of enlightenment no problem. Hold on one second..."

The professor reached into his pocket, and pulled forth a pad of paper and a small stick of charcoal, which he used to quickly scribble down a name, which he then passed to the boy. It read

Polutinus Pawsett's guide to Practical Pets

"Go check this out at the library, it will cover all you need to know, including boiled bones, squeaky toys, other kinds of toys, the proper diet and anything in between. You can take your time, and even write some notes down. And hey, if you ever need help finding another book, feel free to swing on past. Well, I'll see you around okay? Get some house points, show Gryffindor spirit and all that. Right, and senkel is doing fantastic, he's growing up big and strong

Griffith would wait for the young boy to turn around and head back before closing the door, as he didn't really want to be too overly rude about it, but he certainly didn't want to waste time answering the questions if, like the boy said, he was just having trouble finding a good book. Good book found, professorial duties accomplished, he was done.

He stood there curiously and wondered what Griffith meant by that and when he made a paper appear from his pocket and a piece of charcoal, the second year blinked in slight confusion. A frown formed on his lips as he thought what he would scribble on it. A name? Something sarcastic? The latter was not likely, he was not mean like that after saying he was about to help.

When Griffith handed him the piece of paper Alan's eyes swiftly ran over it with a soft smile that lit up his face brightly. It was a name and a book, making Alan grin and nod at the professor. Guessing him telling him stuff would be unclear and just a bother. Also he liked to learn stuff like that, in practical was his favorite, like how to build stuff and how to climb a tree without falling, but in theory making yourself smart on a subject you are actually interested in? He liked that too.

”Senkel is?”, he asked with widening eyes. ”Would it be too much to ask if I can see him? If so I would be happy with a picture or so, I just wanna see him again and tell him he is a good Crup!”,he asked and maybe was testing his luck. But he was Alan after all and he cared for the four pawed lace-addict.
