Different cultural BG I guess, but here we don't normally have nicknames. But we do have a "special" way to call each other as long as that person is not someone of a higher rank/status/position.
Having eyes, but not seeing beauty; having ears, but not hearing music; having minds, but not perceiving truth; having hearts that are never moved and therefore never set on fire - these are the things to fear.

@Marius Brown that makes sense… I call everyone older than 18 mr. And Mrs… I get it make if people uncomfortable… as a teen it’s weird being - miss… sometimes it makes them uncomfortable but it’s how I was raised. I ask say yes ma’am and yes sir… to everyone.

Edit: I’m quite similar (but different too) to Bailey… she does Taekwondo like I do…. And I was willing to restart/ take over ownership of the Martial Arts Club because I have about 10 years experience in Taekwondo…

Here if we're calling someone by their given name (without their title), we simply use one syllable from their name, usually a syllable that consists of consonant-vocal-consonant. (For example, instead of "Hey, Marius!" we'll say "Hey, Mar!")
But when we introduce ourselves or when we talk about a third party, we use the whole given name:
"I'm Marius."
or "Hey Mar, did you see Bailey?" "Bailey? Oh, there she is! Bail, Bail! Please come here, Jean's looking for you!"

That makes total sense. With a few of my friends they help teaching Taekwondo with me (although I teach a lot more than they do ) , we refer to each other as Mr. and Miss while teaching, but out of teaching and in our own class, it’s first names. with the Taekwondo organization I train with, anyone who is a black belt (like me) or higher rank than you (probably like me) it’s mr, miss, or Mrs. I’m Miss insert my real name here- I almost wrote it down… oops, since I’m one of the highest ranks.
