Double post for River Dewlight and dNPC Evanore Fairclay
Both Characters are Open to Interactions!
This was not good, not good at all. Things were escalating extremely quickly, and they all needed to get out of there. River looked around, searching for any exits that were not blocked by a giant, but none were in sight. She saw two options in front of her, help with that idiot giant blocking their escape from the fire, or help actually put the fire out.
Someone had figured it was a good idea to punch a hole in one of the windows, did they not know anything about fires? It might seem helpful for bringing more fresh air to those inside, but really that person just helped the fire grow more intense by giving it more fuel.
Luckily, all the students now helping out with the fire was causing it to calm down.

More and more students were gathering up on the guy by the door now, and the fire was closer to River than the door was. Fire it is then, she decided, and swiftly drew her wand out and attempted to cast the extinguishing spell she learned during her first year. «Extinguo!»
River attempts to help put out the remaining fire by casting Extinguo
Evanore felt a wave of dizziness crawl over her as she noticed how overwhelming everything was. All these people made it extremely hard to even see what was going on, the only thing to hint that things were very, very bad, was the fire crackling, the loud sounds from distressed students, and the smoke. The only other thing that was easy to make out from the short girl’s vantage point, wad the tall, towering giant by the entrance to the ballroom. There were two giants actually, and neither if them looked particularly friendly.

The girls mind was racing, trying to block that growing feeling of panic as the situation grew from being nice and fun, to lethal in just a few seconds. What could she do, did she really have any options at all? She was a thin, not very strong, teenage girl who spent most her time reading books. Many were putting out the fire, and many were also ganging up on that giant.
There wasn’t really any way for her to run up to the giants either. I should throw something!

Without thinking about it, her small delicate hand reached down and plucked the shoe off her left foot, and she gave her best attempt to chuck it as forcefully as she could, aiming for the nearest giant’s head(the one by the door).
And now she stood there, with only one shoe left.

Serena wanted to ignore everything and just have a good time. That was her only desire for today. The small fights that were taking place, the small drama that ensued was all something she could ignore. It happened way too often. Even she had thrown a few slaps now around or raised her voice at someone's horrible actions. It was normal here. But then again: so was every Hogwarts event ending in fire.

She turned as she heard a loud voice echo over the music. A very tall student was screaming down at another. She narrowed her eyes, trying to see what was going on. Being shorter than most people made it a little harder to see what is going on and if you needed to step in to help. Why was the huge student screaming at the smaller one?

But she did not have the time to figure it out. Her eyes widened as the flame set everything alight. The fire was uncontrollable, swinging into action. She stood there, staring into it for a moment. Every night before bed, she would sit in the cozy Hufflepuff common room, gazing into the fireplace. Fire did not scare her. The absence of it did. Ever since the campout, the darkness scared Serena far more than the fire did. Fire provided light, warmth and a sense of safety that she needed.

She had woken up after the campout to see soot on everyone. Her hair was several inches shorter, with burnt edges but she had been okay. From what she heard, Reid had saved her from the fire after the darkness almost killed her. Serena had missed the fire at the Blossomfest, walking in to see the scorch marks on the table and the screaming children. Everyone said that a Hogwarts event ended in fire but... this was the first time she had actually seen it in person.

The fire was not going to save them today. Her heart pounded loudly in her chest as the flames flickered in front of her eyes. It was spreading - and fast. Everything was going to get burned away... They were trapped here. In a room. All of the people she loved. Her breathing got rapid. They were going to die, weren't they? Yet again, they were faced with an enemy that they could not defeat.

The smoke hit her nose, causing her to cough and waved a hand in front of her face. Besides her, two girls were screaming about what to do. She pulled out her wand. They had no choice. Doubt would do nothing here. She had to defeat it. Two years ago, she had failed. She had recklessly rushed into the forest to save her friends and it had almost cost her her life. Today, they were all trapped in the room with her. She had to save them. There was no choice.

She heard a voice [LEAH], asking what they should do. "Clear the path, stop the fire, get everyone out." She replied, though she was talking mostly to herself. Her voice sounded different to usual. It was darker... It was more serious than she had been in a while. They had to get the door open. They had to stop the fire from spreading. They had to stop the smoke from suffocating them all. There was obviously another chaos going on with the giants, that needed to be stopped. But right now, the fire was Serena's priority.

Adlai was going to find the exit. Reid was going to break it open for them. Adam was apparently going for the chaos surrounding the giants. Teamwork was the only way to survive. She had learned that a long time ago. But... this was now a game of divide and conquer. They had to trust each other to do the task they set out to do. Each person had to complete it. They would have to, if they wanted to get through this. "I'll get the fire." She stated her focus. She did not waste time saying anything else. She wanted to tell them to stay safe, to be careful but... She was terrified. Deep down, she was terrified.

Her eyes quickly scouted the room. Her other friends were here too and she was going to make sure they all got out okay. She tore off her mask, dropping it on the floor for a better view. Her eyesight was sharp, she could not risk blocking her vision - or worse, the mask catching fire on her face. Serena raised her wand, "Extinguo!" She screamed, tackling the fire towards the exit to try and clear a path out for those attempting to run out.

James, so enraptured by his first kiss, had failed to notice as chaos erupted in the midst of the ballroom. It wasn't until the acrid smell of thick smoke hit his nostrils that he was alerted to the danger surrounding him. He was stunned for a moment in panicked silence as the flames began to grow and eat away angrily at the linen table cloths.

He met Charlotte's eyes, desperately wanting to protect her but woefully unable to.

"My- my Dad taught me something... uh- what was it? Fire needs.... fuel... oxygen and.... heat." he said ringing his hands slightly.

"We need to get the decorations away from the blaze and make sure it's only contained to area surrounded by stone floor." he quickly scanned the room. "The Punch Table. The individual glasses won't be enough to extinguish the fire, but the entire table, it might just be enough to smother the flames if we upturn the whole thing. Then kids can walk over it and get to safety..."

He grabbed Charlotte's hand tightly, running as fast as his legs could carry him through the chaos and smoke. He spotted Lamik amidst the crowd and shouted out to him.

"LAMIK, do you think you could help me and Charlotte upturn this table onto the fire? It could smother some of it and create a path!"

A girl in a black dress was casting an extinguishing spell on the flames, attempting to form a path for her fleeing class mates.

"Hey, can you help us turn this table over? I think we might be able to extinguish more of the fire if we smother it..."

"They are afraid of the unknown, change is something they are not willing to accept right now."
Illowy rolled her eyes, "Its the bloody wizarding world. Even the Ministry itself only knows the tip of the iceberg. Most of everything is still unknown..." she muttered, cold gaze wandering about the room. She couldn't help but wonder how many if these students felt like students such as Deathmote or Kyle ought to be run out into the night like vermin. How many were hellbent on their learned bigotry that she could only assume they picked up from the parents?

What was to be so afraid of within the Unknown anyway? The Unknown held potential. It held mystery and answers. Certainly there would be some danger involved; but isn't that life in general?

Her thoughts were broken as she caught Chris's movement from her peripheral vision, finding his eyes for a moment before they flickered to his offered hand. Illowy hesitated for a moment, almost surprised he would actually ask her. Not that it was a bad thing, just... surprising to her. A small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth as she abandoned her drink on the table once more and accepted his hand, "Sure."

The word barely escaped her lips before all attention was brought to the chaos ensuing. Her eyes flickered to the boy when he turned back to her, excusing himself into the fray, "Chris, wait!" she started, though he was well off from her before her words could reach him. The snake bounced a bit on the balls of her feet before going in after him, weaving through the crowd with a much grace as she could manage... which wasn't much. As she did so, she fished for her wand in her pocket.

This wasn't going to happen, not again.

The girl had just barely managed to break through the crowd when the explosion caught her off guard. The girl was nearly knocked off her feet by the flame, much less the panicked students around her darting in all directions to escape. Her eyes looked all around for Chris, or anyone she might know that could've been hurt, though to no avail. For the love of Merlin, why did it always have to be fire? A Slytherin more set on self preservation might've known better to get out while she could... but Illowy wasn't exactly the sort to turn tail as she began her work.

"Extinguo!" she cried out, trying to put out as much as she could along side some like minded students. At least it wasn't like last year... at least now many of them knew the extinguishing spell and knew better now how to help. Her concentration was only broken when she hear someone shouting a warning over the deafening noise, and turned to see a familiar figure among the flames just as the boy charged.

"Chris, what the bloody hell are you doing..." she whispered to herself. wide-eyed.

Everything had happened so fast, one moment she was talking with her friends and the next she was being dragged towards the exit while a fire raged behind her. It was terrifying, to say the least.

"Fudge!" Serena looked just as terrified as her. It looked like the exit was being blocked by something or rather someone. There was no point to go that way, to many people were already trying it would be a death sentence.

"Serena! Stop, there's no way we're getting out!" Elzabeth grabbed for her wand, reaching down a compartment that was custom made just for her. "Let's try to help, look there's James! Come on!" Elzabeth hiked up her dress, squeezing serenas hand as they passed by panicked people.

Going towards the fire felt like going against a strong current, between the people and her instincts, everything was telling her to turn back and run with everyone else but that would be stupid and could result in injury or even death.

"James! Tell me what to do!" Elzabeth called, her heart feeling like it could hammer through her chest, she had never been this scared in her life.

Hunter and Vi danced for a while, oblivious to the fight or the other shenanigans going on around them.

"Don't tell my parents I said this, but I'm happy I took those lessons otherwise I might be stumbling all over the dancefloor right now." Hunter joked. That would be embarrassing, but not the most embarrassing thing she's seen him do that's for sure.

Just then a wave of heat seemingly smacked into his back and several people screamed. "What the hell?" Hunter muttered, turning around to face a fire that had seemingly started out of nowhere.

Immediately people on the floor panicked and rushed back, knocking into Hunter and Vi. "Shit." He cursed, shielding Vi the best he could. He was already sweating from the heat, they needed to get out of here and they needed to get out of here fast.

"Come on, careful!" Hunter warned, guiding her forward. It was complete chaos in here, people screaming and piling up at the exits. "Don't tell me the doors are being blocked." Hunter thought, feeling that impending feeling of doom in his chest. What was happening?

"Elz! Hey! You ever heard of a firebreak before? Here's the thing. All these kids casting the extinguishing charm on the fire isn't going to work unless we're smart about it. We need to starve the fire of fuel and back it into a single area so that we can control it. Anything flammable that's sitting on the edge of the blaze is just going to encourage it to spread. Get a bunch of kids together and move anything that'll fuel the fire as far away as possible, we want to create sort of a trench where there's only stone. If there's something you can't move... burn it. It may sound kinda counter intuitive but we want the blaze to starve itself out..." he said hurriedly, his mind racing as his heart beat against his chest. The sudden crisis had thrown his mind into overdrive and he felt the rush of adrenaline as he began to work.

"You and your friend take that side, I'll start taking this side. Anyone you see casting on the fire, see if they can either cast in a circle directly around the blaze or try and levitate anything that could potentially cause the fire to spread up and away from the perimeter... we want to surround this thing and starve it out!"

He started pulling chairs away at a frantic pace, trying to prevent them from becoming kindling for the angry inferno.

"Lamik! Do you know the extinguishing charm? Could you help us to start making this firebreak? Charlotte, you're strong, wanna help me move this stuff out of the way...?"

He scanned the room again and noticed that it was still full of people, nobody had left through the large wooden entrance way. He was certain that the smoke would soon start to choke the remaining students and his heart dropped into his stomach. Somebody was blocking the door.

Gem didn't quite remember when he did it, but he knew when chaos called, someone had to answer. There were a whole lot of those, but in his momentary panic, all he could do was scramble around and look for his friends. Lo and behold, he spotted James from a generous distance, and pulled himself right by him, listening to his instruction through all the shouting and panicked wails.

"I-I'll help ya move tha- sh- ugh, the air," He scrunched his face up, helping pull the chairs away from the fire. Everyone was doing their part, using the extinguishing charm in bundles, but he had no idea what that spell was all about - he could feel his heart both sinking into his stomach and choking his throat up at the same time. "Th- they need ta get at the heart of e' fire! The base, that's-" It was difficult, pulling anything flammable out of the way of the fire, avoiding any of the flaming death, gripping at anyone who stood in a - what, ten foot radius? It was so strong, it seemed... unreal.

He fled to the door next, doing his very best to slam it open, to no avail. His eyes were big, big and scared. "James, J- what the -" He gasped, doing his very best not to start crying. This couldn't have been it, it- no way, it couldn't possibly be. They weren't going to die here, were they? He sniffed, putting all his bodyweight into it, pounding on it - this was horrible. This was the most horrible predicament he and anyone else could've possibly be put into.

James looked around the room, the smoke was beginning to gather around the high ceiling and as it did it descended menacingly like a dark storm.

He sprinted over the Gem, who was shaking with fear. He wanted to comfort his friend, but if they were going to survive this attack they needed to act quickly. He grabbed the boy by the shoulders and stood him on his feet.

"WINDOWS GEM." he yelled over the chaos, "We need to get the smoke out of the room or else it'll start to choke us. We need to break the windows." he grabbed Gem by the arm, yanking him perhaps a little too hard and racing across the ballroom, his heart racing as the heat of the flames stung his skin. It was beginning to get extremely hot and he wondered if he could continue to have a clear head should the rush of adrenaline suddenly wear off. He tried not to entertain the thought.

He grabbed a chair and stood up on it, in attempt to get some attention in the midst of the crowd.

"LISTEN EVERYONE! IF YOU'RE NOT DOING SOMETHING TO STOP THE FIRE. THEN WE NEED TO DEAL WITH THE SMOKE. FOLLOW MY LEAD!" he jumped down off the chair, lifted it above his head and threw with all his might at one of the large stain-glass windows that lined the ballroom. He quietly prayed that this wouldn't send him to detention...

action: throwing two chairs through a window.

"Win- RIGHT, right- windows!" Gem managed, his entire body flying alongside James', hardly able to catch up to him. Immediately, he began to throw chairs through the windows - had he known a spell to get them without using all the upper body strength he had, he'd have used it, but now wasn't the time to think. He couldn't have even thought, not with all that smoke meddling up his brain.

He glanced behind himself, at all those kids unifying to stop the fire from spreading. He breathed a shaky breath out, continuing to try and get the smoke wafted out of the room, tears welling up in his eyes. His muscles were tensing, his bottom lip was quivering, and while the fear was starting to cloud up the hope he'd once had, he had faith in the instruction of his friend and the professors left in the room. He'd pulled his jacket off, wafting some more smoke away from anyone's general direction, pointing at the windows to try and guide people towards fresh air. Again, he found the strength to throw another chair at a window, turning away for only a second to make sure everyone was alive and consciousness. There was another gut feeling, one that just wasn’t right– he didn't pay it much mind, he was too busy trying to get smoke out of the bloody ballroom.

Hearing Elzabeth yell at her that they were stuck in side, made Serena's panic level rise. If it wasn't for her adrenaline, she would've already had a panic attack and passed out. She just followed Elzabeth down past all the people and towards the fire, almost slipping on her dress multiple times, at least she wasn't wearing high heals, then they would've gotten no where. Serena squeezed Elzabeth's hand as she yelled at some boy named James to tell her what to do in a voice full of panic. She wasn't sure how to give the girl comfort in a situation like this, but it didn't really matter.

Hearing James idea to "starve the fire" made Serena wonder what he was talking about, but as he explained it further she understood. She immediately let go of Elzabeth's hand, as much as she didn't want to, and ran to start pushing chairs out of the way. She wasn't the strongest person though and moving the chairs was no easy task for her. Eventually she picked up her dress with her hands and just started kicking them out of the way, but that showed anyone looking that she was wearing plain shoes under her dress, but right now, that was the least of Serena's worries.
