The Slytherin Table 2025-2026
I let out a small laugh at the fact that her dog wasn't any good at fetch but then again my dog wasn't any either because it was just a toy.
"Oh right I could send a letter couldn't I?" I nod. It would be a good idea to send an owl back home so my family would know that I was just fine even though I was still a little bit nervous, but at least I made friends with Rosalyn or I hoped I did. Back home I was never any good at making friends with the kids in my grandparents neighborhood.
I look over at the other girl that had joined. "Oh um hi im Lotus." I figured that it wouldn't hurt to introduce myself. I was a boy but considering that I was 11 like the rest of the first years I probably looked a bit like a girl even though I didn't sound like it. "um I think I might stay over the holidays but I'm not very sure yet. Oh and I uh don't think I got your name." The idea of staying at Hogwarts frightened me but I probably would send an owl to my dad and ask if I ought to stay for the holidays even if my dad said it was fine I still might decide to go home.

"Yeah, a letter would probably be a smart thing to do." Rosalyn replied, laughing a bit. Not meanly, she wasn't really a mean person, but just a little giggle. She was so tired that she was, in fact, truly giggling.
"Oh my goodness, I am really tired. I did take a nap on the train ride here, but apparently, that was not enough to keep me awake! I wonder what's going on today!" she said, feeling her eyes begin to water from a suppressed yawn. She really had no idea what was wrong with her, as it was only dinner time and she was already about to fall asleep. She could usually go for hours and hours longer, but, she supposed, it had been a really long day.
"This is so random, but your hair is making me wonder, what's your favorite color? Is it purple, or something else, and the hair is just a trick?" Rosalyn asked, tired now, with her filter slowly slipping. She really was curious, and it was normal to ask friends about their favorite colors, right?
Well, she at least hoped that her and Lotus were becoming friends, because otherwise she would just feel really awkward for thinking that they were. Oh, well!
"And of course you can sit with us, you don't even have to ask!" Rosalyn said, answering the girl who had come over.

I was also getting a little bit tired. "Uuhmm my hair? oh ohhh my hair yea it's purple but I like blue more." I didn't really want to talk about my hair to much because it reminded me of my mom and thinking about her made me all sad and I didn't really like being sad. "What's your favorite color?" I figured that she probably had a favorite color considering almost everyone else did, I also figured that I wouldn't have to talk much about my hair if I directed the question back at her.
I look down at my plate of food and it turns out I wasn't actually sure of what I had was, though I knew that the white mush was probably potatoes, I then look at the table hoping to maybe find some gravy to only find a bunch of food I probably had never thought about, the air smelled like a bunch of different foods and I felt as if I was intruding in somebody else's life and kitchen. It was starting to feel quite too much for me and I was trying to not let the overwhelming feelings get to me as I didn't want to have a panic attack in front of so many people nor did I want to freak out my new friend.

"My favorite color? Pink, all the way. But, not hot pink or bubblegum pink, only ever light pink." Rosalyn replied to Lotus's question, and then she heard the girl with the cool blue hair speak to her.
"So nice to meet you Lucy! I'm Rosalyn, and that is Lotus! And it does look good, don't even question it!" she said, seeing the girl flinch a bit, as if she hadn't expected anyone to try and speak with her. That was fine, Rosalyn understood that feeling.
"Are you looking forward to anything in particular? Classes, activities, anything? I'm personally really excited to see if these classes are better than my old school's were. All of them used to be so boring, so I hope that these ones are a lot more fun!" Rosalyn said, asking the newest addition to the group, Lucy.
"Aah! Whoops!" she said, accidentally spilling a bit of food on herself. Not much, just a bit of potato, and she just cleaned it off of her with a napkin. Not a big deal, luckily! It could have been a whole lot worse, if she had ruined her robes in the first day of school. At least she was making some friends on her first day! Or, well, she hoped she was.

“Me? Oh, well, that’s a long story. See, I didn’t exactly know about any of this even existing, and I thought that the magical things I had been doing were just strange coincidences and health problems, but it turns out they weren’t! So, I didn’t really have an opinion before today.” Rosalyn said, replying to Lucy’s question.
“Though, I guess after hearing a bit about some of them from studying a few textbooks before heading here, I supposed I’d be put into Ravenclaw, but I guess not! I’m happy though, and I trust that this is going to be the right house for me.” she said, truthfully she hadn’t had much of an opinion, or any external forces, like parents, telling her what she should be. Someone she had met on the train had mentioned his parents telling him what house he should be in, but Rosalyn had none of that.
“What about you? Did you have any house in particular that you wanted to be part of? Any you think you would have fit better in?” she asked, wanting to know if Lucy had thought any other house would have been better suited for her. Hopefully the Sorting Hat was right on it’s decisions!

I look at her piercings and think to myself "huh cool maybe I should see if I could talk my dad into letting me get a piercing." Maybe my dad would let me. I'd probably have to explain because he would probably say no at first. I'd have to tell him it’s just a small one, nothing crazy, and that lots of kids my age have them. I’d promise to take care of it of course. Part of me gets nervous thinking about the conversation with my dad, about his raised eyebrow and long pauses. But another part of me feels kind of excited. Maybe it wouldn’t be a no maybe it would be a “we’ll see,” and honestly, that would already feel like a win. But then again he might actually be fine with me getting a piercing considering he didn't mind much about my hair changing colors at times. If he said yes I think I'd be rather excited although I might decide not to get a piercing considering I'd probably chicken out at the last minute. Though just maybe I'd go through with it so then maybe I could get cool earrings.

"Hello there! My name is Rosalyn, but you can call me Rosie, almost everybody I know does! And I see Lotus has already introduced himself! And yes, of course you can sit here!" Rosalyn said, looking at the new girl that she saw walk over to the table after being sorted.
"It's very nice to meet you, Cecilia!" she said, loving that name.
"Just out of curiosity, do you have any nicknames? A girl in my class in primary school had the same name, and she went by CC, so I just want to know!" she said, wanting to know.
"I love your piercings, by the way! My parents have always said no to anything but my first piercing on my ear, but I'll have to look into getting some more while I'm here, maybe!" she said, already thinking about a way to get some. Maybe she would do it herself? Only if she could find a piercing gun, because she could not tolerate needles. Like, at all.
"Okay, note to self-look into getting more piercings and dying my hair eventually. Got it." she thinks to herself, adding both things to her mental to-do list. She was sure she would find a lot more things to add throughout the years she spent at Hogwarts.

"Well my family said that they didn't really care what house I got though I think they'd have liked it if I was sorted into Hufflepuff" I think to myself well maybe my family was right maybe I should have been a Hufflepuff. I figured that I could make being a Slytherin work out for me because the great Merlin was a Slytherin and he supposedly did great things. I didn’t want to be known as bad just because I was a Slytherin and the majority of the people from Slytherin were bad. Being bad was far from what I wanted to be. I wanted to be known as a great wizard even though I knew that I probably wasn't going to be one. Though at least I could go on to work with dragons I liked dragons even though I didn't know much about them but I did know that they were dangerous and I had been told by my grandmother that one had eaten her brother long before she was old enough to come to Hogwarts so she didn't really know him so I only knew that about him. My grandmother wasn't much of a fan of me wanting to work with dragons because of that particular incident.

"It's great to meet you too, and I like the nickname CC! It suits you very well." Rosalyn said, taking a bite of her food. She had forgotten to eat it, what with meeting all of these new people. Hopefully friends, perhaps, that would be a really cool way to begin her first day!
"Well, I didn't really have any previous knowledge about any of this world, so I honestly didn't, and still don't, have much of an opinion on the houses and everything. I'm happy to be here, though, everyone seems pretty nice so far!" she said, eating a bit more. Not while she was talking, of course, as her mum had drilled it into her for years that 'talking with your mouth full is impolite to others'.
"What about you? How do you feel about being part of Slytherin? Have any secret or sinister ambitions that we should know about?" she said, joking around, trying to bring some lightness to the whole thing. Everybody(well, at least Rosalyn) was very nervous. It was there first day, so it really made sense!
"I don't have any, my only ambition is to live life and enjoy it!" she said, which was the truth, she really didn't have any huge or sinister ambitions. Yet, at least!

"I'm just messing with you, I'm in the same boat! Everyone has been really nice so far, but I have a feeling that it won't last very long. Still, I hope it will!" she said, thinking about all of the people she'd met and how she really wanted everything to stay like this, peaceful and kind and welcoming. She had a feeling, though, she'd need to learn about this world pretty fast or she wouldn't have the best time. She was sure she could do it!
