Camp 2024  Summer Duels, Match 5
He'd hesitated.
Hadashi had hesitated, and took major damage. The amount of ridiculous luck this other team had was on par with an anime protagonist. He considered just forfeiting to save himself some time and additional pain, and this was reinforced when he looked at Miroshu-san. The kid looked like he was 10 seconds from passing out.
But, to Hadashi's astonishment, he stood back up. If Miroshu-san was going to stay in the fight, so was he. Forfeiting and surrender was a coward's answer.

Hadashi gave the new commentator an annoyed glare. At least he could understand the last one. But this one was speaking such outrageous gobbledygook that even goblins probably couldnt understand her.

Hadashi prepared himself for a loss. It wouldn't take much longer.

The new moderator watched as the time slowly ticked down, her eyes flicking up to the duel itself for only a few seconds here and there just to make sure that nobody was playing too dirty. Her fingers lightly rapped against her other bicep, her arms crossed dispassionately as a Bat Bogey Hex incantation flew from one of the duellists. She snorted with incredulity. "Y'knaw that spell's only effective if yer target's actively sno'in all over the place, right?" Seriously unimpressive. But then again, this was an American we were talking about, so really should she have held her standards that high to begin with? An eyeroll would somehow manage to bite off the rest of the dialogue that she may have been more prone to spouting off when she was a few years younger. "Psh... Flute..."

A cloud of small birds of the Anatidae variety would come from the other American's phoenix wand, hastily swirling about the Mahoutokoro boy and making it harder for him to see his opponents, let alone to try to target them. Unfortunately, Hadashi was not interested on going on the offense, but rather was intrigued with the concept of patching himself and his teammate up--which he did with little difficulty with the help of a minor healing spell that patched up but a modicum of the hurt they had experienced up to that point. Yeah... as if that would help to tip the odds in their favor at all.

But it was the last spell that made the Irishgirl finally inspired to actually think something good about the tactical minds of the duellists involved. Having taken a page from the book of first team, Milosh would be an advocate of the notorious wind-spell, one of only a few that had multiple target potential. A shame that it would come at this point a moment too late and a pound too short. The evasive debuff would be of no use now at the very end of the match, and there were no additional splits to be found besides the initial spell spreading one. Regardless, the girl would give a slow commending clap as she called out to all four competitors. "O'right. We're done here. I think we all see who got sorted and who did the sort'n."

She'd give a nod to the American duo. "Them bovvers from cross-seas whipped ya good." After a moment to let the information sink in a bit, she'd shrug and then ruffle her hair before turning on her heel to the tune of: "Now get outta here n' get some medical if that's what'chyer into."

Rett could throw the reason for using a useless spell under a myriad of reasons, adrenaline, not remembering the specifics of that spell, the fact that his brain was only so big how could he remember all the spells? But still- as he looked confused at the wand that didn't do anything but was successful in casting, he was hit square with a wind jinx that knocked him a little wonky. "What the f- Oof!" He wasn't going to say a bad word, honest.

Still, he watched the other team heal themselves to no avail, Cyrus who was also hit by the wind jinx was able to harass Hadashi with... ducks... apparently. He couldn't help the bubble of laughter that echoed out of him. Holy shoes they had won! "Cyrus, we did it!" For a pair that met each other for the first time on the piste, they had killed it.

In a bizarre show of unbridled physical affection he ran over to the much taller boy and threw his arms around him in an embrace. "I do declare, you did amazing out there!" But suddenly- his feet were not on the ground as Cyrus picked him up, and his face blanched as he dealt with the consequences of his joyous actions.

Call Cyrus a hopeless duck enthusiast... and you'd be right. His blue eyes widened, his jaw dropped slightly, and he gasped in wonder and delight as his avis conjured a small flock of ducks. The idealistic boy's expression would be like a more joyful mirror of Kevin McCallister's on the cover of Home Alone, and his jubilance would only be punctuated by overjoyed bouncing on the tips of his toes, the stressful nature of the duel nearly forgotten in favour of appreciating birds.

He was so enthralled by the beautiful avians that he didn't even see the ventus coming until it slammed into him. 'Oof,' he murmured, stumbling backwards, his gaze still half-transfixed on Hadashi before he shook his head, hair flying out around him like a halo, and blinked. 'Crikey, that hurt.' His voice was soft. Despite his words, he still felt mostly fine, just a bit shaken. He shifted from side to side, having expected something from Hadashi, and he was actually relatively pleased to see the Japanese boy healing both himself and Milosh. Phew. Cyrus was glad to know that he was not causing reckless harm, even if it was by nature agreed to by both sides.

'Good game,' he said, smiling softly. 'That was a solid ventus!' He would have held his hand out for a handshake, but instead, he turned swiftly to Everett, and he, too, began to laugh.

Their shared laughter made the expressive boy grin, and he flapped his hands excitedly before returning Everett's hug in a manner one might call a 'bear hug' – his arms wrapped firmly around the smaller boy's, and, in a fit of excitement, he lifted Everett off his feet and spun him around in the air, his joy punctuated by a small squeal.

'Eeeee!!' he exclaimed, setting Everett down. 'You did so well!! That was so good!! I want to do that again someday!!'

The last round fell upon them and yet no flurry of spells hit him, nor Hadashi causing any more pain. Instead, a soothing tingle shot through him as he cast a glance over his shoulder. The Reparifors was beautiful, a little too late but it helped soothe the aches he figured he would have for the rest of the day. His Ventus sprung out from his own wand, not having a problem on hitting both its opponents. Stubborn thing. At least their opponents would walk away having some ruffled clothes and hair even in their highly pristine position. Even in the moment of their defeat as a clap and raised voice, signaled their defeat, the boy tucked his wand back into his pocket. His gaze travelled to the Hogwarts duo, the shorter one being in utter glee, while the older one still having some sportsmanship and commenting on their duel.

A small head dip was the only thing that he got from the other boy, his own brown orbs narrowing in unfathomable emotions for a moment before flicking over to his partner as the other two embraced. A hug was not his style, and the boy would be surely disappointed if he expected one.

"Hadashi." He would hum, raising his hand to grasp the boy's chin, and odd mannerism. His calloused hand tilted the boy's chin up, making their gaze meet at eye level.

"This is where you keep your chin. Hold it high, and go back to your school showing pride in your accomplishments. We lasted all 8 grueling rounds, this is no easy feat." Dropping the boy's chin, he'd untangle his sweat-plastered curls that decorated his forehead before hiding them in his cloak's pockets.

"Thank you for being my first Mahoutokoro dueling partner this summer, and my last." The final words escaped his lips before he turned and began to exit the clearing, heading to whatever medical tent or assistance waited him. Today was not a day for sulking. Of course, deep down he was envious of the celebration he could've been having, but he was right. There was always a silver lining, and in no way was he disappointed in himself or his abilities. You win some, and you lose some and he would carry this loss with pride and further use it as a lesson to learn from.
