Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1
Alan kept an eye on the Slytherins and was quite happy for the close call. Because as soon as Dmitri had managed to free himself of the binds, they were replaced by fresh ones that would kept him bound for more time. Meanwhile Bridget had managed to free herself of paralysis while Astrea remained untouched. His partners, Galton and Meenauh, were however somewhat standing strong.

Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1
Easily dodging a targeted body-bind curse, it was abundantly clear to Astrea that Pendrast’s best was aiming to survive this duel with all the hubris that perpetually bound Dmitri. How graceless — how clever, in all of its filth — for the Gryffindor team to attempt securing advantage through widespread incapacitation. Such a plan seemed better fit for their Ravenclaw equals, even if it held little of the professional animosity typical of a duel against Slytherin. Even so, the Viper’s limited capacity was little more than a hurdle to clear. With Metelojinx out of their way, it was only a matter of time before the piste was levelled once more.

Trying to force her way out of the petrification was stranger than usual. It was always a bit strange, straining against a force that wasn't physically there like the binds were, a mental battle to wiggle a finger, raise an arm. But with half of her limbs stuck tightly to her sides, she felt extra stuck, and half like it might be more worth it to just lay here. The spell wearing off was her saving grace.
She didn't have free hands, so she had to first maneuver herself into a sitting position, criss cross style, before she could even attempt to stand. It was not the most graceful of sights, but she managed. Bridget straightened to find that Dmitri had been hit with yet another Fulgari--a solid strategy on Gryffindor's part, if a very boring one--and sighed quietly. With their time ticking away, they needed to do more than this.

No sooner had the bindings detached themselves from his arms that another set of Fulgari wrapped around them once more. Sighing deeply while turning an exasperated face at the sky, Dmitri went around to thinking how his opponents could find satisfaction in a duel they'd try to win by... not taking any of their opponents out...?
The boy could not imagine such a dilemma given that almost all of his previous duels (he doesn't talk about that one that ended in a draw by a not-too-different scenario except with healing) were won with at least a couple of their opponents lying cold on the Dueling Club floor.
Oh well, to each his own.

Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1
There were many ways to win a duel. It was something Galton had become quite aware of with age. He was not able to dish out the same amount of raw force that many of his peers could. Which meant that other routes to victory had to be found. It was a much riskier game however. Damage was easy, it tended to last too. His duels turn into a dance - one wrong move could spell downfall.
And while he was able to escape torrent of air this time, he hadn't been able to land his shot. At least part of the strategy had worked.

The Slytherins were in a bind...literally.
Bridget had gotten to her feet, but her arms remained bound by Alan's vicious Fulgari spell, and Dmitri beside her was in a similar predicament. Both of the snakes would struggle against their bonds, trying to rejoin the fight before it was too late, but unfortunately the bindings would remain firm. Jake thought Dmitri seemed exasperated. He couldn't blame him - he'd feel the same way if it was him...He'd spent the whole duel unable to cast at all.
But Jake had seen the Gryffindors fight before - strategy over strength. With cunning like that, it was surprising that THEY weren't the Slytherins. Astrea would turn to her team-mates and try to help them with a counter spell. It loosened the bindings a bit, but just not enough...
The lull in the duel meant there was time for the Gryffindors to regroup - Galton sent the storm cloud back towards the struggling snakes. Alan turned his wand to help give Meenauh a boost of energy as the duel went towards the final stretches.
Things had become such a chess match, had gotten to such a time-out...that the last thing Jake expected was what MEENAUH did.
But just then, the lull was broken as the lion would send a blasting curse hurtling towards Bridget! Focused as she was on getting free from her bonds, she was a split second late. The slytherin girl was quick, but meenauh's spell was just that much quicker, and though she tried to dodge it wasn't enough, the ground exploding at her feet and driving her backwards with the force of the blast!

Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1
Alan smiled as he healed up Meenauh, she looked just as content as she had been at the start of the duel. Then his gaze flitted to Galton, who was also a bit bruised up. Alan was sure he could handle himself better than she could; sometimes looking at Galton it was reminiscent of a leaf dancing in the breeze... just a lot more erratic.
With a glance to Jake and the experience of previous duels he was sure that the duel was coming to an end. Especially since according to the rules update they had shortened the run time, to perhaps allow for more heated duels? Not that important to Alan, as long as he could create a big enough lead in a shorter time.

Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1

It wasn't quite how Meenauh planned to utilise her skills, or how to behave against bound opponents, but a duel was a duel. And Bridget made her first step in their dance.
She smiled at her first, giving a hint of what would be coming next. She promised to herself that no Bogies in duels or no fire spells in duels. Confringo was on the list too. So... she broke her own promises with a playful smirk on her face.
As the spell flew towards Bridget, she took the whole of explosion, apparently not having enough space left to dodge it.
"Sorry, darling," she shouted across the stage, "I'll buy you some beer later," she oiled the recent action with a promise she won't break.

A Confringo for a Confringo was only fair, so Bridget wasn't surprised when Meenauh spoke the incantation for the Blasting Curse, even if she was pretty sure the Gryffindor typically avoided fire spells in duels. She would have preferred to have it exactly even and avoid the worst of the spell like Meenauh had, but her balance was off and she just wasn't as fast as she needed to be. Getting exploded was never fun, her ears ringing and balance even more thrown, but she managed to smile back at Meenauh, if a bit half-heartedly.
It was just-- not looking good for Slytherin. Even with Astrea's help, Dmitri couldn't break himself free, and Bridget had lost her focus trying to dodge. And Bridget had lost far fewer times than she had won throughout her time duelling at Hogwarts, so she couldn't say she was a particularly good loser. She could feel the seconds slipping away. As bad as the fire and noise and shrapnel of Confringo was, she'd take that over being useless.
