Mark had a feeling that his hair color had once again changed. Since he noticed Seven looking at it. He knew that it was most likely a pale blonde color, one of his favorite hair colors besides blue. He decided to look back up at the clouds for a little longer. When he was bored of looking at the clouds he wonders if Seven was going to say anything. But then he realized that they aren't going to say anything.

So, now Mark is thinking about what to say to Seven. He really couldn't think of anything. But, he knew that if he wanted it to be less awkward, he had to say something, but what? Mark began thinking about all the possible things he can say or even ask Seven but he couldn't pick one at all. He also didn't want to sound rude either.

"Gosh, why is it so hard to think of something to say or ask someone new? Like shouldn't it be easy or something?" Mark had thought.

But, he couldn't even answer that question and he also didn't want to ask it since he really didn't want to sound rude at all and lose a friend that he was hoping to get to know better. Once he had finally thought of something to say, he asked,

"Can you speak any other languages besides English? I can speak two other languages."

─────"I know German," Seven offered.

Not that they spoke German often. They could, but they never really had a reason to. Everyone they talked to knew English, so why use German when speaking to them? German wasn't even a family language that they spoke when they were at home or with their parents.

Seven had learned German from her father, who was half German, half English. He spoke it sometimes when he was angry, which wasn't very often, or when he was happy and wanted to emphasize his joy.

Seven's father had been born in England, and had never visited Germany. He had always wanted to travel to Germany, but was too busy with other things and hadn't gotten around to it.

Apparently Mark knew three languages, one of them being English, of course. Seven wondered if he knew German, but assumed he didn't unless he had German family members or something. German grammar was difficult to learn. Seven still had trouble with it. They did understand why the grammar was like that, though. It was frustrating, but kind of important to the language.

Anyways, Seven curiously asked, "Which languages do you know?"

It was nice to have a topic again.

"Cool. I know both Korean and Japanese." Mark says.

He liked the fact that Seven knows German. Since he only knows Korean and Japanese, he finds it cool when people know other languages but also know Korean and Japanese. Mark knows these two languages from his family.

His family lives in both Tokyo, Japan, and Seoul, South Korea. But, Mark, his parents, and his older brother all live in Preston. Mark is actually born in Preston and so is his brother. If Mark and his family were to move so Mark and James can attend a different wizarding school, they'd move to Japan so they can both attend Mahoutokoro.

But, Mark's parents decided to not move, so he was told to go to Hogwarts. Mark is actually fine with this, but was also sad since he wanted to go to a Japanese school, but knew that Hogwarts will most likely be a better school for him.

Now that Mark knows that Seven knows German, he thought that the two of them could teach each other something in their own language, but he wanted to know what Seven thinks about this, so he asks,
"Seven, wanna learn some things in Korean and Japanese? You can teach me some things in German. That is if you want to."

─────"Yeah," Seven replied. "That sounds really cool. Like a language swap."

'Language swap'? What's a 'language swap'? Why had they said that? They had been so close to making a new friend and they had ruined it all. Why couldn't they be normal?

"I mean, uh," Seven quickly attempted to cover up that weird stuff with a new sentence, "that seems fun and informative."

Nope, too formal. 'Informative' wasn't a word people usually used. It was something adults said when they were trying to sell items or ideas.

"Fun," Seven added. "Yep, sounds fun. Very fun."

Now they were only making things even worse. It would be best to stop talking. That way they wouldn't embarrass themself any further. Though, if they could just say one more thing, they could fix those previous mistakes. But, there was a possibility that Seven would destroy this new friendship even faster if they did. What to say?

In the end, after a mental battle of sorts, they decided to wait and see what Mark had to say about their strange wording. Would he leave? Going off to find better friends? That seemed a little dramatic to Seven, but they couldn't afford to doubt too much.

"Ya, like a language swap." Mark says.

He liked the way Seven called it. He had no idea what to call it, so he was happy to call it a language swap. Mark looked at Seven confused, then realized that they were trying to cover up what they had said. But, Mark really likes the idea of a language swap, so he decided to tell them that.

"Seven, it's ok. I like the language swap. It sounds epic. I had no idea what to call it, so I'm glad you used language swap. Also, you don't have to worry. You can be yourself around me. I like learning about new people and their true selves. I won't be mean about it. I just think that if you're making a new friend, you should be true to them and just be yourself." Mark says.

Mark knew he sounded like a parent giving advice to their child, but he decided to tell this to Seven so they won't worry if they say anything weird when there around him. Mark really doesn't like it when people start to worry if they sounded weird and doubt themselves around him. He just wanted them to be normal and know that Mark is ok with how they normally are.

─────After Mark was done with his speech, Seven couldn't help but think how straight forward he had been about it. He clearly didn't spend too much time worrying about what others thought of him. He didn't find it hard to be himself.

It wasn't like Seven was always hiding who they were. They didn't do that. They just weren't extremely confident with themself. They didn't want to get embarrassed. All they wanted was a nice friend group. But was it possible that Seven was being too needy? They tried to convince themself that they weren't anything of the sort.

Perhaps, though, they were. A little bit. Most people overlooked the fact that by going to Hogwarts, Seven had been forced to leave their Muggle friends. And those were their only friends. It was difficult to keep in touch with them when Seven had to lie about everything. They couldn't tell Muggles that there was a school of witchcraft and wizardry. Multiple, actually. Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, and Ilvermorny were some of the scattered schools that taught magic.

So, that was why Seven was so desprate to make friends. They were sort of lonely. Lying to one's friends is never an easy thing to do and it had separated Seven from the others.

When it became quiet again, Mark began wondering if Seven hated him—but then thought they were probably taking in what Mark said. He really did say a lot. He hopes that what he said won't break the friendship which is forming between him and Seven.

Mark simply said what he said since he thought that Seven should know this and hopefully they'll be more confident and stop doubting themself. He had no idea if they were doubting themself though, since he didn't want to ask at all.

Mark became lost in his thoughts once again. But he wasn't thinking anything bad, just thinking about ways to get a conversation back. He decided to let Seven be lost in there thoughts, but also knew that he should talk to them as well. He didn't want them to think that Mark was being rude or anything.

"Ok, look. I'm sorry if you took that personally and if you thought that I was being mean to you. I really didn't mean it to come off like that. I just want you to be yourself around me. But, you don't have to if you don't want to. I won't make you."

Mark now wondered if what he now said had done anything better or made things completely worse. But, he had a feeling that it made things better, but he'll only find out if Sveven responds.

─────Seven shook their head. "You're right." They added, "You're not being mean."

They attempted to smile as they thought about Mark's words. They could be shy at times, but it wasn't just that. They wanted to talk to people, to get to know others. But it was so hard. Seven was so worried, too worried, about saying something wrong. They didn't want to mess up. So they didn't say anything at all.

It worked. They didn't embarrass themself. Yet, they didn't make friends either. They didn't have fun. Seven was in some zone in between being popular and... not. It was strange, and, at the same time, nice. Having friends was great, but it could get complicated. Seven liked knowing what was going to happen. They didn't like anything to do with mystery. Unless that was the genre of the book they were reading.

Anyways, the point was that while they loved having friends and chatting with people, it was hard for them to begin that process. They often just thought about what they would say if they weren't so nervous. It was okay, though. At least there were people like Mark at Hogwarts. He was friendly, which made him easier to talk to.

Mark sighed in relief. He was pleased that Seven didn't find him being mean to them, and if they did, Mark wouldn't know what he'd do. A smile then appeared on his face, but this wasn't a standard smile, it was his happy smile.

"Great. I'm glad you didn't think I was being rude. If you did, I probably wouldn't know exactly what to do. And no, I'm not exaggerating either. None of my friends have ever called me mean or rude while I'm hanging out with them. So, I'm glad you also didn't call me rude or mean."

Mark then began to think about how everyone in the world is different, how some people have friends, how some people don't even have any friends, and how people can make friends.

Mark doesn't find anyone popular, unpopular, or in the middle. He finds everyone the same, whether their lonely or not, he still finds every person the same. Mark has no idea why he views things completely differently from other people, including his family members, but he knows that he's different, so if he's different, everyone else in the world must be different too right?

─────"It makes sense that none of your friends have called you mean or rude," Seven told him. "You're neither of those things. You're a great person. At least, you seem to be. We just met, but that was kind of my first impression of you. That you're kind."

Seven also smiled. They were glad that Mark seemed like a true friend. He didn't care that Seven could be awkward or that their name was just plain weird. He was nice and they really appreciated that.

Those thoughts brought up a small memory about their name. Seven had often thought about using a nickname. They disliked their real name and a nickname was the obvious solution. However, nothing else was right. In the end, they had accepted that the name 'Seven' was a part of their identity and they couldn't change it. That didn't mean they had to like it, but they could live with it.

Well, that decision had been made quite a while ago and the truth was that Seven had almost forgotten about the whole thing. It was interesting how stuff could just blend into all the other thoughts. Or perhaps Seven had a bad memory. Yeah, that was probably it.
