2023, Stage 3 Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin: Match 7

Autumn had taken a bit of a beating this game, and so Jake wasted no time turning his wand towards her to heal her. He liked casting healing spells a lot more than attack spells anyway. Really concern for Autumn wasn't the ONLY reason he did it. Maybe it was also because he felt a little guilty watching Opeila fighting to get to her feet while still being pelted with spells. At least one-on-one was a fair fight.

As the Slytherin got to her feet, Jake looked at her, wondering if she might give up, but it sure didn't look like she was going to. He wished she would...it felt wrong to fight like this with the numbers advantage, but he knew that most people would be too proud to give up. Last round when it happened to him HE hadn't even given up, even though he'd really really wanted to. Mostly because he knew that he was a captain and a prefect and he wasn't supposed to be afraid especially not while others were watching, and then a little bit because Autumn might have killed him after.

Though it was hard for Jake to summon up a killer instinct on a good day, it was even harder when it didn't feel fair. Even if he knew how good Opeila was at dueling, it was still a two-on-one fight. But that was how the game went, right? You weren't supposed to stop. Some people might even get mad if you did. He didn't even know if Opeila would WANT him to quit casting. Probably not...he couldn't stop trying until it was over, right? He felt uncomfortable, his stomach twisting just a bit and this time not just from nerves, but he kept his wand up and ready. I'm sorry, he thought quietly.

(Of course, there was still a chance Opeila might knock them BOTH out. The duel wasn't over yet, and it didn't take much to knock him down.)

The jinx leaving Autumn's wand felt almost inevitable. She loved the fire, of course she did, but sometimes there was nothing wrong with being a little more on-the-nose. Jake seemed to finally fall out of his steady stream of Flipendos, and she was somewhat glad he was playing support. It seemed a more natural role for him. And, after having had to cast it on herself twice in the duel, she was happy that he was starting to help out in making sure she didn't pass out anytime soon.

What a shame must it have been for Winters, having had to duel alongside Tone? At least Morris had shown in this duel— both through his attacks and now the Reparifors currently washing over Autumn's wounds— that he could pull his weight. It was a though frighteningly positive for one concerning Jake Morris, making Autumn grimace a little.

The duel would come to twist ending. When Galton commented that this would be a memorable duel, he had meant it, but he had not idea just how memorable it would be.

There was no reason for the Badgers to stop their onslaught - victory was oh so close. Jake would join Autumn in casting his favorite spell - a flipendo each, much to the surprise of no one. Opeila would make a smart move and decide to throw up a tactical Protego. "Potential for redirection!" Galton would shout out in excitement. The chance to use the opponents own fury against themselves was a great move when you knew you were cornered.

Unfortunately for Opeila, there was also the potential that your shield would falter. The dual flipendos would head strait for the magical aura protecting the snake. Both of them would impact the shield at the same point. It was too much for the tired duelist. Galton imminently remembered watching Meenauh's own shield break - it was a gut wrenching scene to watch. "Broken?!" Confusion would be audible in Galton's voice. The odds that both spells would pierce the shield were so low. There was no chance of escape for Opeila after the break either. The shock of the sudden burst in her protective magic seemed to make avoiding the spells far too difficult. She would hit the piste after taking a double dose of flipendo. Galton's hand was up in the air, but not a peep would come out as he rushed onto the stage with the medics. Commentary was always secondary to duelist safety.

Once Opeila was moved to a stretcher Galton's voice would scream into the silenced crowd. "HUFFLEPUFF TAKES THE MATCH! VICTORY TO THE BLAZING BADGERS!" Applause would explode out of the stands. "Well fought to all! One for the books." That would be the last bit of commentary from Galton for the day. He would make his way over the the awake Badgers and pay them some compliments. And as he was known to do, they would each get their own licorice wand. He would then depart to follow after Opeila. The snakes had earned their licorice wands too, after all.
