2022, Stage 1 Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 8

Ileen briefly checked her opponents, still fighting against her own jolt of wind before staring at the cloud over her head. This was ridiculous. She was so upset and frustrated with her second failure in this duel that she missed the beautiful spell leaving Astreas wand and finding their target. Their first hit - self-jinxing excluded - and she missed it. And yet she threw all of her remaining energy in and finally sent the cloud back to the Gryffindors. The anxiety of another failure turned into relief and Ileen smiled, tasting her short triumph. But not for long. The girl had recognised her distraction and for the first time she had been targeted too. Or at least hit.
The young Slytherin inhaled sharply as the Flipendo hit her right into her stomach. Gasping for air she trembled. No. Not after she had finally started to be useful. She felt her energy already fading after two spells had backfired into her face. But she wouldn’t just give up. Not now. Never.

Wand motion made, incantation cast and magic electric under her skin, Astrea was far from alone when it came to choosing the Knockback jinx this round. Though one of their opponent's spells fizzled, Astrea's own had no trouble striking its target, its path clear and correct from the moment it left her wand in a familiar jet of red light. It was, embarrassingly, the first of its kind to properly affect the Gryffindor team between a crowd of missed spells and fog charms.

Astrea needn't look hard through the existing haze to find her mark when yet another Knockback jinx scored her partner square in the stomach. Her fellow Viper bore the blow bravely, pushed about by their own wind jinx as they were, and Astrea was satisfied to know that no comments were exchanged to exacerbate the emotional sting. Some of her previous duels had been filled with unproductive, provoking comments- wholly unwise and a waste of air, in Astrea's criticising opinion -, but this one seemed much more sensible. With the magical clouds rumbling in vague agreement, Astrea was in the business of continuing this observation, this time with Slytherin at its best.

Astrea was able not only able to split her spell, but also hit one of the lions with her spell. The youngest of the Gryffindors would find a small flame had appeared and was now burning her skin. Samantha watched in awe of the amazing spell-casting of the older student until she noticed that Ileen had created another fog cloud. It seemed like there wouldn't be many rounds without clouds surrounding at least one of the teams in this duel.

Talking about clouds, Alan had created another storm cloud. Now there was a storm cloud rumbling above both teams, both ready to shoot lighting at the poor students. As if there wasn't enough chaos already, Nicky cast a wind jinx at Ileen which just hit her. If Ileen had moved one more centimeter to the left the spell would have missed her.

The mod post has been edited and Astrea's spell has now missed Alan and he is not on fire.

Alan was only slightly concerned with the storms of thunder that brewed over their heads as his focus remained on the pair of vipers that had nearly managed to strike him. Though perhaps she had taken a bigger bite than she could chew, when she had decided to target both Elsa and himself. Not that he minded being spared by the ruthless fire spell.

Still struggling with her own little storm, Ileen raised her wand, determined to turn this duel around. She would contribute at some point! The fog that she sent to the other two was slightly thicker than before.
But it was necessary. Although the young girl tried to fight it with everything she had, the soreness of her wounds started kicking in. She blinked to get back her focus and saw the spell coming, tried to step aside… and just wasn’t quick enough. Merlin, she had just escaped her own backfired wind and now she found herself in another.
Gritting her teeth she tried to swallow the pain. There was no time for that. She would fix it up later.
A quick glance to the other team showed her that Astrea’s spell had found her mark - at least one of the two. She gave her a quick reassuring smile, although Ileen wasn’t sure that she could hide how beaten up she already was.

To claim their duel as one of poor weather was an understatement. Much to Astrea’s internal displeasure, as Ileen once again cast a blanket of fog upon the piste, another cluster of thundering clouds formed above their heads. Rumbling asynchronously, their presence ensured an equal chance of electrocution between the opposing houses — for that matter, it was all down to luck and knowing patterns.

Patterns. If one were to describe their situation in a few words, they would note the repetition of chances and challenges. Once more, Nebulus became the most common spell at hand, even with the perpetual electric threat hidden within, and once more did Astrea’s split spell work do only half of the damage as it was supposed to do. Green fire, hot and greedy, sprang from one of her opponent’s sleeves as the fabric gave way to kindle. Such plateauing progress could not stall the results, but the duel was far from over.

And they were off once again! Ileen looked ready to dodge anything that came her way, although luckily for her, nothing did. It was less lucky on Astreas end, however, seconds after healing herself and her partner, she was hit with not one, but two flipendos, one of which strong enough to knock her off her feet! That would take a moment to get back up from. Looked sore too.

Thankfully for everybody, the two very angry looking clouds overhead missed everybody.
