Spring Races Broom Race Ravenclaw v Gryffindor

Nicholas had thought the race had gone tits up when his teammates had been taken out by the waterfall. Oh, how he wished that were merely the case. Alas, the Ravenclaws were not yet done with rubbing salt in the wound. Fernandez flung Evanvleck forward, the first year shooting past Nicholas with such speed that the captain barely had time to even register what was occurring, let alone curse.

No, the curse came out the moment that he failed to realise that Silverton had taken the opportunity to fall ever-so-slightly behind him. He'd not noticed he'd overtaken her, not with his eyes cast so far forward to Evanvleck. Not with the swarm of magical pests that descended upon both he and the two girls in blue. Perhaps he should have made more of an effort to dodge, but he was hellbent on pushing forward, of stressing his broom to the absolute limit in pursuit of speed. So much so that he didn't even opt to avoid the razor sharp teeth of the doxies. He didn't care. The doxies were secondary to the true enemy, the girl that had raced up ahead of him.

But it was Silverton from behind that struck him with a spell. The forced push of his broom faded, as a deep sense of frustration and anger took over him as he'd realised what had happened. The bitch had slowed him. How was he supposed to win, now?

"God dammit!" The blaspheme was a snarl, one tinged with every bit of anger that he could muster.

He wasn't ready to lose. Not like this. There had to be someway that the lions could stay in the fight.

Glory? Yes. Chivalry? Not so much. A few years back, and Bloom would not have had to watch her back for flying boulders. A younger Hugh would have even scolded the man he had become, or rather was starting to become. A bitter monster, angry at the world around him. While he held no grudge to the Ravenclaw personally, he felt no remorse for doing what needed to be done. And that was to try to get Gryffindor to the finish line first.

He felt himself falling behind, though. As the last rock flew from his hand. He watched its trajectory and felt a mischievous grin creeping up the side of his face. It could be rather fun to play the monster. Most of them saw him as one anyway. He was merely playing his part. In a sense. And he was sure Captain Mop wouldn't complain either. "Do what needs to be done" and all that. Hugh felt himself instinctively look for a wall to inspect as he heard his captain's voice ring in his head. For the love of his ancestors, captains could be so damn annoying.

The waterfall had knocked him out cold. He felt his uniform sticking to his chest and slurping with every step or drag he made back towards his broom. The water was cold, a bit too cold for his liking, but he’d have to worry for getting sick after the race.

He made it to the edge of the waterfall and pulled his broom from the water. Others were climbing back onto theirs a little ways further as well. One leg swung over the shaft and with a silent determination in his step, the boy launched back up.

Meeting the same “enemy” twice had its advantages. You knew what you were in for. Bracing for impact, the boy lunged forward and made speed. He felt the need, for speed.

Lin Evanvleck ✯ First Year 9th April 2022

Lin held the handle of her broom tightly and tried her best not to show that she was in pain a little bit at everything. The Doxies biting her was making it difficult but she was ahead of the game so she couldn't stop now.
She could make her house, Ravenclaw, win. Not like the other time, when one of the Hufflepuff Racer's had passed her and Emily. Lin could do it this time.

RAVENCLAW v GRYFFINDOR

ROUND FOUR

Chaos continued to reign supreme as our racers continued to contend with not only a rogue boggart on the field, but a whole swarm of doxies that appeared very angry at the jaunt racers were taking through their territory. But nothing would keep the teams down, they were in it to win it.

UNIT NINE

Hugh Lowe begins his round here.

All good things come in threes, and for Hugh, he would yet again take a chance to toss quite the heavy branch way up ahead at Bloom for the third time in a row. He must really have something against the Ravenclaw to attempt to take her out, she didn't seem like she could take another hit from him. Completely forgoing any movement, Hugh came across a particularly large branch as he scanned the open field, and chucked it with all his might at the girl that was quite far off in the distance now.

This time, however, Hugh's throw would not make its target, his arm wobbling slightly to the left as he released it, causing the branch to stray off course. Bloom was left unscathed, for now.

The boggart had once again chosen its victim, this time that of the sweet goblin Judith. Problem was, Clair had already managed to grab hold of Judith, and begun to twirl her around in the hopes of increasing her speed. This meant that Judith, running away from her greatest fear, would go sailing backward, not forward, and she would yet again have to contest with the waterfall.

Once again, Judith would find herself falling into the watery pool below, alongside Ari who had seem to overcome his earlier frozen stance in the presence of the boggart, and had now managed to remount his broom. He would most likely noticed Judith's fall, but trying to press onward was the only thing the two could do. Della, Xailah and Levi would certainly seize the opportunity of Judith's misfortune to get the heck out of dodge.

The rather open passage underneath the waterfall proved no difficulty for the three Lions, each of them making it through with no issues.

UNIT TWELVE

It was in this open field that two of the three opted to slow down, both of them taking aim at two of the Ravenclaw's they had left behind in the waterfall.

LEVI

FLIPENDO
Levi attempted to cast Flipendo at Judith, but as she was KOB, the spell doesn't affect her.

While Levi had planned to cast Flipendo at Judith, it seemed it wouldn't even be useful anymore with her drenched yet again at the bottom of the waterfall, so he didn't cast whatsoever.
Xailah, on the other hand, had a nefarious plan in the works. If she could cast Immobulus at Clair, then Clair would be resigned to bump into the next obstacle in her way, hopefully causing some additional damage. The cast was decent, and Xailah's aim was decent as well, but Clair, having nothing else to do but watch as Judith fell back into the water below, managed to dodge the spell.
Perhaps even worse for Xailah, her illegal spell was seen, and Starlee's voice boomed out over the field. "uh... HEY! MISS ALPTRAUM! ILLEGAL SPELL!" That would certainly cost the Gryffindor team.

UNIT THIRTEEN

Bloom begins the round here.

A lone Della would enter the field in front of her, watching the last of a few doxies take a bite out of those just in front of her. As if in a cartoon, all four heads slowly turned to face her, their teeth gnashing, and they raced towards her to grab a bite.

These Doxies were certainly angry, and three of them managed to take hold of Della, biting at her quite viciously. This was a race for kids, right? Della would start to feel a bit woozy, okay, maybe a lot woozy, as if she had lost some quite a bit of her energy. She would keep moving on regardless.

Bloom would continue from here, Della right on her heels. The two would once again have to face the Doxies, this time they decided to pair up and swarm both racers. Their buzzing and flittering managed to cause the racers confusion, lowering their senses and abilities even more.

UNIT EIGHTEEN

From what the three racers could tell, it seemed like it was going to be smooth sailing. For the most part, it was, aside from some winds that had managed to pick up, possibly causing some to waver, or worse, to crash down onto the hard ground below them.

The wind's may have been getting stronger, but the two's grip on their brooms was holding steadfast, neither of them wavering even an inch. Of course Lin would manage to shoot off past Nicholas, with the sweet taste of victory getting ever closer.

Nothing could stop Lin now, as she sailed through the windy field in sheer bliss. There were no spells coming her way, no obstacles, and, better yet, the wind seemed to be clearing up.

This was it. The finish line was just in sight. Lin Evanvleck, Ravenclaw first year, would be bringing home the win for the house.

LIN CROSSES THE FINISHLINE - RAVENCLAW WINS!

Despite all the chaos that was going on midway through the track, Lin had managed to make it through first, and in fair condition, aside from a few Doxy bites and a brush with some thorns. She was probably feeling woozy, and a trip to the Hospital Wing would probably do some good, but no doubt she would at least want to celebrate first!
