Appearance: Ryo is a young boy with black hair and black eyes. He is tall for his age and very thin, 150cm for 35kg. He has two small dimples that form on his cheeks when he smiles. This smile can melt the most hardened hearts as he is so resplendent. He has beautiful fine hands that everyone admires.

Personality: Ryotaro is a young boy of 11, silent, shy, and introverted. He only talks and confides in his closest friends. Often alone or in the company of his cat, Ryo is always with a book in his hand. His big eyes shine with an indescribable glow whenever he is interested in something and he can't stand not knowing something. Naturally very curious, he will easily go to the adults and ask them many questions.

History: Born on 21 december 2010 in Tokyo, Kobayashi Ryotaro, nicknamed Ryo by his family, is a sensitive and shy young boy. Since he was very young, he would rather stay in his corner than go to other children of his age. Ryo was a precocious child. Already at a few days old, he was babbling non-stop with his eyes wide open under the loving gaze of his parents. His father is Kobayashi Oichiro, a healer at the largest hospital in wizarding japan. His mother, named Hana, was a librarian before becoming a housewife when Ryotaro was born. His parents are both wizards born into witch families. They were educated at Mahoukotoro, Japan's school of witchcraft. When Oichiro was in 7th grade at Mahoutokoro, he revealed his feelings for Hana. His feelings were mutual, but Hana wanted to wait until after school to make their relationship official. After graduating from Mahoutokoro, Oichiro studied to become a healer. He was a trainee healer for 5 years and became a mediwizard at the age of 25. Meanwhile, Hana, finished her studies in Mahoutokoro and went on to a career in books. She loved to read and wanted to dedicate herself to making other people love reading. When he was 24, Oichiro proposed to Hana. Hana's parents were initially reluctant, but when they saw how much the two love each other, they accepted their relationship. Hana worked for a while as a librarian in a magical village, but, when Ryotaro was born, Hana decided to take full care of her son and her husband and resigned from her position in Mahoutokoro.
Ryo, from a very young age, always loved to read. He always had a book in his hand, whether he was going to school, shopping with his mum, or playing with his playmates at the nearby park. He was very cute as a child and some of his schoolmates, jealous of him, used to insult him with words they heard from their parents. One day, a big and strong boy who had just arrived took control of Ryo's little gang of enemies and the intimidation got worse. It was on one of these days that Ryo had his first accidental act of magic, he had just turned 6. His bullies had once again started to bully him and Ryo, to be able to be quiet, had run away. But he was chased for a long time. In desperation, he hid in a hole behind a bush, thinking with all his might "don't let them find me". Then, without suspecting it, he became invisible. Buichi and his gang passed him several times without seeing him. It was only at the end of the afternoon, when his mother came to get him, that his magic disappeared and he became visible again. From then on, when he felt that Buichi and his gang wanted to harm him, he hid in a corner and waited for the school bell to ring. One day, he had the unexpected help of a boy from a higher class and since then, they stopped bothering him.
When he was 7 years old, Ryo received his letter to Mahoutokoro. His parents were proud of him and explained to him how his years in the school of witchcraft would go.

Pending There are only two minor things that we will need from you.

1. Your year of birth: 15 May 2010 makes you slightly too old. First years are born Sept 2010 to Aug 2011, your year of birth with that month and day would be 2011.

2. Both of your parents independent of one another chose to take on muggle professions after graduating Mahoutokoro. How/why did this happen? Remember, as wizards there is a cultural and social divide. You will need to contend with the fact that they would have a hard time culturally understanding their peers and using what would be needed to got those degrees (such as a computer) as they would not have been accessing them while surrounded by wizards. They would also experience great difficulty in their career and home life as technology is engrained in our every day lives as well as the expectations of patients, insurance companies, peer physicians/nurses and pharmacies. They would be basically giving up magic or replacing their phone every few days, or being pretty ineffective at being contacted when needed in their important roles. So how and why did this happen, anything is possible but you will likely need to elaborate rather extensively to make this work.

I reached out to admin as well as Index to see if I was being too harsh considering I have been in the medical field for over 20 years. I work on a computer 75% of my day. I have a specialized cellphone for my workplace in addition to my personal cellphone that is blown up 24-7 for various needs at my facility. I had to go to college (already having a high school degree, not a wizarding degree), I had to write papers (even in the 1990s) using a computer, I had to research articles, I had to contact professors and I had to not only understand but own and actively utilize technology that your parents as wizards would never have seen growing up in my daily life with not only adequacy but mastery. Your home would be bereft of magic to make this work. Your parents would have had to of taken years post high school to get some sort of muggle education and integration into the muggle world. They would have had to of gotten by without the use of the magic they had depended on during their youth or faced replacing their technology as often as I change my socks. Even after they got their degrees, they would need to have access to these devices (like a cellphone because being "on call" as the best surgeon in Tokyo" would mean that you would very much have a cellphone strapped to your hip). This would be a childhood of being raised essentially like a muggle by parents because they would need to maintain the technology they have to maintain their careers. This is some far-out stuff. Just remember the following - 1. graduate magical school. 2. Go to the muggle world. 3. Get some sort of education or equiveillance to a high school diploma (learning subjects not generally covered in magic schools such as hard sciences). 3. Enter pre-ed (4 years). 4. Enter med school (3-4 years). 5. Internship/residency (3+ years), it is about 5 years + in residency for a surgeon. So it takes approximately 13 years post high school to become a surgeon with a normal high school degree and computers not blowing up and understanding how the muggle world works well enough to navigate all of this. This is a lot to explain, something I (Lear) cannot pass. If another admin wishes to, they can feel free to. I won't check back here unless I am told that there are some major changes. However, any admin is welcome to override me if I am being too critical.

September 28 - Followup owl about the following: Students at Mahoutokoro receive their invitation at the age of 7, or when their first magic happens, whichever comes later. This is in the lore of the school here under the education section: viewtopic.php?t=18040 Ryo didn't receive his letter until 11, which I assume is after his first magic. Please correct this.

We cannot let Ryo claim that his character's mom was an employee at Mahoutokoro because that changes the lore of the school - if someone else wants to say their mom was librarian at the same time, it would create conflicts. You can say Ryo's mom was a librarian at a magical library or anywhere else, just not the only librarian at the school during a set time.

Coraline was strange, that's been established. The thing is, she's a girl from the muggle world. She will always be from muggles and will always have that in her. So while she might not be out there being the most amazing spell caster ever, she's got a thing for using her fists and brain. She has an inventive mind and makes her own cool gadgets at home. She makes use of things around her and is darn good at it too. Like the time she was walking home from school and some kids had began to follow her. She didn't notice them until they jumped at her. Shocked, she swung her fist and felt her fist meet flesh. She drew back her arm in horror as the kids paused- clearly surprised. "I just- I just hit a person-" She said to herself. The kids recovered and charged at her again, so she ran. One of the kids came way too close for comfort, so she took off her hat and shoved it over the face of the kid, making him stumble and trip. What else could she use? Ah! She took her bag off her shoulder and swung it at another kid, hitting his face. "HA!" Last but not least, she took off her shoe and threw it. It hit the kid right in the nose. She quickly retrieved her shoe and ran home.

Another time in winter, she went outside. The snow was everywhere. There was a large hill down at the park, but she had no sled of any sort. After thinking, she grabbed a laundry bin and inspected it. She placed some blankets inside and sat in it to test the size. It should work! After decorating it with stickers, she walked to the park. She ignored the stares and set her bin on the top of the hill. She started to push the bin and ran, jumping in at the last second. Surprisingly, it worked. She laughed to herself and spent the rest of the day doing that.

Sometimes, she will pick up a broom stick and swing it around like a sword. Basically anything that involves quick movement and your hands, she could do. She might even use a wand as a sword and not for magic sometimes. She could take anything and use it as a weapon. And when there was nothing to use, she knew very well how to kick or punch.

Personality Reducio Akihiko is one of the kindest souls you’ll meet. He always strives to make others comfortable in whatever environment they may find themself in. He is very confident, and it’s hard to be shy when he’s around. Liked by students and teachers alike, he can always try to put a smile on your face. He’s a fun loving spirit but lives his life at full speed. Sometime’s he’s going so fast he won’t even realize that he left you behind. His fun loving attitude usually leaves him feeling awkward when people share their feelings. Appearance Reducio Akihiko is tall for his age. At first glance he may appear to be in second year, or even third year, but no, he is actually a first year student. He has black hair that can look faded red in the right lighting. He doesn’t have a noticeable jawline, but most of his family does. He has dark brown eyes that usually shine the brightest at night. History Reducio Akihiko was born in Tokyo. He was born to two wizard parents in a longstanding bloodline. He grew up with all four generations of his family. They lived in a large and industrious house near the heart of the city. Akihiko was never without company, whether it be with his great grandparents, any of his many grandparents, his aunts, uncles, his only cousin or his parents. The house was always a rush of activity. Through it all, Akihiko managed to be the star or the family. They all agreed that he would be the one to lead them to greatness. Akihito lived with all four generations of his family. Because of that the house was always packed. He had his great-grandparents from all four of his grandparents, his grandparents on his mom’s side and his grandparents on his dad’s side. He had his mom and his dad. He had his aunt and uncle. He had his cousin. He had his cousin’s grandparents and his cousin's great-grandparents. That meant the house was filled with a grand total of 20 people living in the house. That was one big house, and one loud family. Akihito’s parents grew up in a strict pure blood only family. They were taught that being pure blood was superior and marrying a muggle would be disrespecting the whole family. Because the entire family lived together, Akihiko grew up with the same idea. He knew that marrying anyone but pureblood would wreck the whole bloodline. He was the one everyone in the family was looking to, and he couldn’t mess up. Akihito first performed magic as a tiny baby. He was sleeping on the couch when someone made the mistake of sitting down beside him and waking him up. With a start, Akihito awoke and began crying. No one likes to be awoken from a restful sleep, and certainly not Akihito. The unfortunate soul who made the mistake of taking a seat on the couch found himself lifted by his clothes and flung across the room onto the nearest chair. They weren’t mad once they figured out that bright little Akihito, living up to his name, had performed magic. At such a young age, they said, he was sure to be a bright wizard. Akihito was encouraged to take many lessons during his childhood. He got tutoring for normal school subjects as well as foreign languages. He was taught English and Mandarin Chinese, along with his native tongue, Japanese. With so many languages, he was always forgetting which one he was speaking in. In the span of one conversation he could change his language three times. Usually he is good at explaining what he said in another language, but at other times you’ll have to remind him to translate. Along with languages, he was encouraged to learn an instrument, and he chose piano. He grew good at the piano and performed at concerts locally. Growing up as the star of the family had its perks. He quickly learned that once you got some you needed more. ‘More’ was his motto. Once the family had gotten to see some of his talent, they had wanted more. They forced him into lessons that he didn’t want to take, and if he wasn’t successful they forced him into something else. As his talents and success grew, Akihiko had to be on the lookout for his cousin’s pranks. They started as harmless, and Akihiko would laugh along, but as he grew older he learned to always be watching out for them. The distance between the only two children in the family grew, and there wasn’t much anyone could do to salvage it. Akihiko was always living a fast life. More. More. More. The family always expected more out of him, as if what he had done wasn’t enough. More fame. More trophies. Akihiko didn’t know how much longer he could keep going when he received his letter. His parents were thrilled. Another place he could excel. But he was tired of excelling, and jealous of his cousin. Was it to much to ask to lead a normal life? Charmer Reducio Akihiko was a very lovable person. He seemed to always be looking to put you in your comfort zone. Whether it was by telling a witty joke or giving you a playful shove, he was always looking out for you. Even as a child he seemed to be charming. He was the center of attention in his family, and was a tad bit spoiled. From an early age he was making people laugh by doing funny things. Once, when he was five he was with his grandparents. They were watching him and his cousin for the weekend and they were playing outside. Akihiko and Botan were playing in the mud, trying to make the best pie. Per usual, Akihiko made a beautiful mud pie out of mud and rocks. Botan was busy making a mud pie out of mud and worms, and you could see in his grandparents eyes whose pie they liked. When time came to present their mud pies to their grandparents, neither boy would be satisfied with a ‘they’re both great’. His grandparents looked at each other nervously. “I like BoBo’s the best!” Akihiko announced with a grin. His grandparents looked at each other gratefully. “That settles it. Botan is the winner!” Akihiko winked at his grandparents. Part of the reason Akihiko was so successful was because he was so charming. He was always making his teachers laugh, and they all said the same thing. “What a charming boy! Don’t tell the other students, but he’s my favorite.”. Akihiko didn’t want to be the best, or the favorite. The only problem was that he couldn’t turn off his charm. There were certain things that would pop in his head, and he would just say them. He wasn’t even trying to be funny, but everyone would laugh. Akihiko wished that he could be like his cousin, who was popular among their age. When Akihiko tried to talk to the boys his age they would run away shouting’ “Look! It’s Akihiko, golden boy!”. Akihiko never had the chance to actually speak to them, charm them. But finally the opportunity arose. He was sitting on the side of the road eating a slice of melon when the pack of them ran by. Seeing an opportunity, he joined the chase. He gained to the front and found that they were chasing after a defenseless old man riding a bike. “Bikes are for kids, old man!” They yelled. Akihiko managed to make it to the front of the group. “Stop!” He shouted, skidding to a stop in front of them. “What has this man ever done to you?” He glanced at the man who was looking at him affectionately. “Leave him alone,” he shouted, and with that they scattered. The old man climbed off his bike and shook his hand. “You will make a fine man one day. Let me meet your parents and tell them of your respect for an old man like me,” he chuckled, and I was left with no choice but to take him back to my house. “What is your name?” He asked. “Akihiko,” I replied. “Akihiko, what a beautiful name.” I led him back home and he told my family the entire story. Before he left he told them, “you have a charming boy,” and to me he said, “I hope to meet you again soon, Akihiko-san.”. That was the first time I realized I didn’t need to be ashamed of my talent, but I should use it for good as often as possible.
