The 2022 Fall Ball has begun!
In the Courtyard you will find a most enchanting experience with food, music, and dancing. Try an apple, charm your date!
On the Grounds you will find a Petting Zoo... but not the usual variety. Instead of bunnies and sheep, there are more exotic and magical creatures for you to interact with. Don't get bitten by the Mackled Malacaws!
And finally, for those with a yearning for competition and adventure, there is a Save Your Date activity to sign up for... but don't worry, the Damsel will have their own part to play, instead of just waiting to be rescued.

Index clarifications and updates
In an effort to make the indexing process more clear, there have been some aesthetic changes to some of the index threads. The same information, but hopefully made a little bit more clear!
But something super worthy of note is the following two changes: stat points from sports wins must be linked in your trunk code. Do not only provide the links for the proof of achievement, but also include all sports wins in your trunk codes going forward. Just having "+5 from Quidditch wins" (and not having them linked) will not be okay going forward. The next time you update your trunk code, include clear links to all of the games and include those in your trunk code as well. This will make it a lot easier on moderation staff and helps us to have a clear papertrail, so thank you in advance!
One other change is that the items section of the trunk has been removed from the suggested trunk codes. Why? Because this section has had an unclear purpose for a while now. Some used it to list magical items that were approved by staff (something that is no longer needed as the shops have been updated to include most if not all of these items), others used it to list their school supplies (unnecessary), and others used it to list all of the inventory items that they buy on the site (which is unnecessary but also inconsistent - if you add your item to the trunk and sell it later, it will still be in your trunk and there's no formal way of tracking that. also, staff check your user inventory when it comes to moderating the items you're using - they do not check your trunk post). Processing trunk updates to add to this items area of the trunk is taxing on the index staff when it is not a needed or moderated section of the trunk. There should only be four sections of the trunk - abilities, stats, spells and potions.

Minor Updates to Existing Rules
For the sake of clarity, we have updated the Mentor Team expectations to clearly state that we expect our mentors to maintain Mentor Records and discussions in confidence. As some topics of discussion are sensitive, such as banning members, which we do not make public because we are not in the business of shaming members, it would not be fair or appropriate for users from any staff team to share this information in private chats with their friends. We understand that there may be circumstances where this information needs to be shared and it would be ethically deficient to withhold this information from certain parties so we do have a protocol for sharing information with relevant parties. If a staff member feels that someone -should- (not wants to, that is gossip) know, we have a protocol for disseminating this information.
Why do we do this?
There are members who have been banned in the past for rule breaking that after some time and remediation have returned to the community and have since been a great member. Displaying their "dirty laundry" not only shames them but also makes mainstreaming them back into the community not only difficult but in some cases impossible. Some turn into great examples for community members and their past would/could be weaponized against them. Just because someone makes a mistake does not mean that their presence on this site needs to be defined by that.

⚠ A quick reminder: for the sake of comfort, ease, aesthetic and general enjoyment we have a variety of emotocons available on discord and on site. We also have the ability to embed images in our posts and in most discord channels.
Not everyone has a powerful device or a stable connection, even those that do will find that the abilities of their device are finite in the presence of spam. We do not want to stare at threads are parce through the number of emotocons used in a post or the size (weight) of an image resulting in system crashes.
Please be responsible with your image/emotocon use. I can remove the ability to embed images or use emotocons in posts but I really do not want to have to do that either so I am asking you as a community to be responsible with your emotocon/image use so I do not have to do anything (the ideal outcome).

Hexwizard Task 1
We have three matches running concurrently in the ballroom:
These matches will set the tone for the rest of the year. This match will be moderated weekly by myself. We are also offering a Spectators Thread for users. This spectator thread will be unlike other spectator threads as it will be actively moderated. This means that those that choose to enter this thread will need to be registered with Index.
If you are lost on how to make an Encyclopedia, there is a FAQ Thread on this. Please remember, Index is driven by real people with jobs and families. It can take up to 2 weeks for them to address your character. Do not wait until the last minute to register.

Summer Games Conclude
As the final summer games have now concluded, and our foreign friends have returned home (only to come back for the Hexwizard), accesses for iNPC participants in these games on site and on the discord have now been removed. Thank you all for participating!

New Professor of Divination 
Halford Booth has finally made good on his alleged hatred of children and has left our lovely staff team. Fortunately, we have hired a much friendlier expert in horoscopes and other seer hogwash in the form of Brinley Bardot, better known as Harper Jordan. Harper has been an active and valued member of the community and the mentor program, and is part of the team working on the most recent faerietale ball. We look forward to working with her and can't wait to see what passion she brings to the subject!

NaNoWriMo is here!
It's time for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) now that we've hit November! This is something anyone can get involved with - whether you took part in Preptober or not! We have also increased the rewards this time and now offer a variety of different things should you complete the challenge!
For more information about the challenge, the restrictions and how you can take part, go here: viewtopic.php?t=23164&start=0We have 6 milestones with progressive rewards for each one (this means that they stack).
For reference, the item you'll receive if you successfully complete the challenge is:
- 5000 words: 1 HP
- 10000 words: 1 galleon; 1 HP
- 20000 words: 2 galleons; 1 HP
- 30000 words: 3 galleons; 1 HP
- 40000 words: 6 galleons, 1 HP
- 50000 words: 8 galleons; 1 HP; 1 (Random) Gold Frog Card; the Nightmare Story Lantern item; if the book is finished it will also be posted as a "published" in-universe book.
