FAQ — Questions
Adding onto what Clark said, it's not just Hogwarts where devices don't work, but anywhere where wizards frequent (this means Diagon alley, the Ministry, etc also are no-go zones for electronic devices). Essentially, magic leaves a trace behind it which builds up as more magic is used in the same spot, so areas where magic has been used once or twice are fine for electronics, but for areas highly saturated with magic (including the Hogwarts Express), they won't work.

Well, there are the usual RP rules (Wordcount, no use of spells you don't have in your trunk and so on), but is there something specific you are unsure about?

I don’t think so, but is the word count still 200?

Pretty much what was said above - all the normal site rules apply when writing solos. I do suggest you tag it (and get it closed when done) so that other members are aware that this is not something that is meant to be joined. But beyond that, same wc, no new NPC rules, all the spell and potion rules still apply.

FAQ — Questions
On portable music, there are several options that one could use that would not be adveraely affected by magic (yet could be enhanced by magic).
-- phonograph. Everyone knows about these! A substrate platter, anciently shellac, modernly plastics & polymers, around which a single track or groove is etched with a physical manifestation that will reproduce the sound. The platter is spun by means of a mechanical (or magical) motor. These come in a wide variety of sizes from 16 inches down to about 1 or 2 inches.
A portable grammophone using 2 or 3 inch discs would work nicely. (Muggle kids, it turns out, had a device very much like this even back in the 1960s!)
- Graphophone. Another device that works on similar principles, is the graphophone. In stead of a platter on which sounds are impressed, a long strip of thin plastic is impressed with long straight grooves. These strips are housed in boxes called cartriges.
A number of sizes of these strips or tapes can be made, from two tracks up to 8 or 16 tracks. A mechanical motor drives the spools upon which the strips are mounted.
Multi track cartriges will automatically stop and reverse when the end of the strip is reached.
- Cylindrical phonograph. Lastly, there is a third format which is a cylinder of plastic (anciently wax or bakelite) upon which a single track of sound winds around the cylinder much like the stripes on a barbers pole.
The same kind of mechanical motor drives the device. These are usually only seen in offices as dictation devices because the cylinders are bulky and of limited capacity.
Sound reproduction on all these devices is identical, with a stylus that picks up vibrations from the engraved track and a conical tube with flared bell that magnifies the sound.
A variety of enchantments could be used to stablise the devices and enhance the sound quality of the recordings.
There are other possibilities as well, such as drum or disk music boxes, organs and combination devices.
Keep your mind in hell; and don't despair.
