Edward Foxe wrote: 1 Jul 2023, 07:55 Is it allowed to make up my own set of stats for a series of unofficially modded threads?
I don't mean another build of the HIO stats but something like 'dexterity', 'constitution', 'alertness' where the participants choose only for that private game? it's not official or used anywhere else, it's just used to have some measure to do rolls for certain tasks or events.
Also is it possible to let not indexed members choose a set of hio stats for the purpose of I of not officially modded threads?

My use case: I am thinking of making a treasure hunt or revive the castle exploration that I had started. This time as a guide to first years. They might need to conquer some tasks and I'd like to include a bit of modding. For this I'd need a few other stats but also maybe strength or wisdom. Since I thought it was addressed also to first years and new members, they might not be indexed. That's why I ask.
No, you may not pick any stats or abilities that are different from what you got indexed.
Picking temporary stats (for unindexed people) is also not an option. You register with a set of stats, that's the stats you'll use.

The freedom you have in unofficial games lies in the way you want to mod it, how you roll for things and with which stats- not in re-assigning the stats of players.
Thank you for your answer. I actually didn't mean to change things of players.
I was just wondering how to roll for things like e.g. having a run and how to know how fast people are. Sure, I could use strength but that might not be the right thing here. So if players declare beforehand from a set of physical abilities how fast, how agile, .. they are (just for this one thread and the purpose to determine who is first without just pure luck).
So that is also not allowed?
If that is also not possible, does anyone have ideas, how to best do the rolls for certain things? 🤔 (like I read somewhere about 'awareness rolls' but there isn't a stat for that, so what would be used?)

(sorry if you also meant exactly that but I had the impression, my question was not completely clearly stated :innocent: )
That is actually what I meant, you cannot pick a different set of stats. For awareness rolls, usually wisdom is used ^^

Okay, thanks again for clarifying :)
The I'll think of something according to the start rules we got :innocent:

Sage Willows wrote: 1 Jul 2023, 02:13 I’m pretty sure this is acceptable but just checking:

Since my character is (IC date) technically not yet at Hogwarts, can I RP her at her home during the current school year?
Yep! You could technically RP her as a 4 y/o at home, because you can backdate as far back as you would like.

Just remember that posts must be about/from your character.
Awesome! Thanks, Ava!
Further to that, do note that you shouldn't create threads at Hoggys. Feel free to visit London or Hogsmeade with your family, as well as any other Elsewhere location you'd like!

Actually, characters of any age may visit Hogsmeade with their parent or guardian.

This can get complicated but what some do is they create mathematical calculations to determine things that one of the already states stats does not cover. Example - the average of accuracy and strength to determine speed for instance. You would not want to be creating new stat numbers, but rather manipulate what players already have.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

Ah so that would be possible? That was actually my next question :D so thanks for answering.

Some related question I am pondering with: Is it possible to give the students 'tokens' to use in something like a scavenger hunt? And would that only work IC (like them taking them as joker, which I guess would be fine as it would be part of the in character scavenger hunt) or would this also be possible OOC (for the rolls. (e.g. each player taking part gets 5 tokens and you could use them for certain modifications of rolls or so). here I am not sure if you would just see a 'differently labeled other kind of stat thing' in this. I really don't want to circumvent any rules. The idea of creating a scavenger hunt is also not more than an idea seed at the moment but I am thinking of ways to make it a little more engaging)

Thanks in advance :)

I think you will find that to be a bit 'complicated' in practice.

Quick question here, when you graduate to the next year, do you get 5 stat points? I'm very confused on whether you do or do not.

You do, though as a second year, no stat can exceed 10, so be mindful of where you put them!
