One way to describe Promise was thorough, she always did everything to the best of her abilities. Promise is a calm, calculated girl, she thinks before completing any task, and every chore was done exceptionally well. Promise was always organized and responsible, even from a young age, she would never dodge a responsibility, she was always thoughtful and careful. She always believed in doing any obligation well, and don't do anything unless you were ready to do it perfectly.
Every time she picked up a broom, the room would be left polished and tidy everything would be done in depth and not a single spot anywhere would be left anything less then spotless.
Even when she was young, she would never be proud of anything unless she thought it was done incredibly well. Thinking before doing was her specialty, and that always caused every activity to be done remarkably well. Everything she ever did, from painting, to reading, or even cleaning her room, was nothing less the perfect.
She developed this trait, from the countless hours of time she had alone, which pushed her to always finish every task very well, since time was something she had lots of, rushing to complete an obligation was something she never did. After years of year of solitude, perfectionism slowly became her nature. Interactions and hasty completations of a responsibility were always slim throughout the years, so everything she did, was never in a hurry, and done incredibly. Time was something that helped developed this nature, she always knew that there was nothing she absolutely had to do, so everything was always done as good as she could do it. Her tasks and activities were always on her own time, so every time she needed to dust a bookcase or any other responsibility, she never hurried to complete it, since she knew that there was never anything else she was hurrying to do.
Promise had always made sure to be as neat as possible, which she did by organizing and reorganizing everything from her drawers to her closet. Everything had to always be organized and tidy. Her responsibility was similar, everything was done within an hour when you asked Promise to do something, she never forgets to finish a homework assignment, or to clean out the kitchen cabinet. She was thorough and responsible, she always remembered when you asked her to do a task, that, and she always did it perfectly. If you were to ever take a peak into her closet, you'd see that ever piece of clothing was perfectly organized by color. Promise would never slide for anything to be done anything less then perfectly.

The inaugural captain of the Gryffindor broom racing team, a natural fighter and brawler, Nicholas McCowan is no stranger to dangerous situations, to taking damage and to having to deal with things being flung his way. For the most part, he came to cope with such dangers by learning to tank them, by copping them on the chin and charging forward. But there are some things that just cannot be handled outright. Spells, fire, and the persistence of attack. When it comes to fighting, when it comes to surviving, a man must learn to dodge, to avoid danger as well as to face it head on. There is a difference between bravery and stupidity, it just took Nicholas four years to learn that difference.
While broad, and not the most agile of creatures, prolonged exposure to danger and to would-be enemies have driven Nicholas to understand the need to dodge out of the way of incoming danger. The boy was never dumb, but his would-be intelligence had long since been turned away from books and to more practical pursuits. Pursuits that saw him more often than not staring down the barrel of a rival’s wand or fists. There are only so many times one can take a fist to the skull or have a spell cast at their back before they begin to develop a knack for understanding when danger is coming, and how best to avoid it.
Be it on a broom or on foot, Nicholas has become evasive, learning when to move early to avoid being subject to attack. This instinct makes up for his relatively lower nimbleness, his mind turning to reading situations and developing the best possible outcome in respect to how to keep himself safe. Whilst still confident, and somewhat over reliant, in his ability to take attacks head on and with a smile, he has long since learned that it is not always the best thing to do. So it is that continued trial, continued engagement in fist-fights and arguments have seen a skill developed in sport evolve into a veritable talent.
For tall and broad as he may be, albeit not as tall nor as broad as his fellow former captain and noted dressmaker Hugh Lowe, he is, at his heart, and athlete and a fighter. And the most important part of any sort of athletic competition is how one moves their feet. He has simply learned to read situations and turn his strategic mind to knowing when to move said feet.

A year divorced from broom racing, and yet Nicholas could not keep himself out of trouble. Starting fights with annoying lower years, risking concussions by trading fists and elbows, Nicholas McCowan could not continue with his existing fighting style alone. Winning by attrition was all well and good, but it left him bloody, it left him bruised, and more importantly, it gave his opponents bragging rights by claiming that they managed to land a hit upon the bigger boy. Sure, it was very nice to be able to hold himself to a certain level, to say that he had eaten blows and stayed standing. But when he bled, it gave his opponents a sense of legitimacy. That just wouldn’t do. It was well and good to be proud in one’s ability to stay standing, to fight through pain and to be a tank of a teenager. It would be even more well and good to be able to also avoid blows that had been directed toward him. One could be deft and powerful, and that would allow Nicholas to take absolute pride in himself and his fists.
So he took to practising further, taking up what amounted to muggle martial arts over the summer, learning how to avoid being hit, not only how to hit. For there were bigger issues than taking a fist to the face, and Nicholas would not allow such humiliation to fall upon him. Pride demanded that he be able to go toe to toe with more talented wizards, those who would be able to dismantle his fighting ability with a flick of a wrist and a wand. He needed to get around those spells, avoid petrificus totalus, and unleash the full might of a burgeoning muscle wizard upon them.
Pride beget that he would not allow the prissy little cowards to cast upon him, and that meant that he had to learn to avoid them. Speed was of the essence, dodging, closing the gap, and turning a duel of magic and wits into a proper fight, a fist fight. Evasion would be the great equaliser, and he would use it to great effect. A tactic would form in his mind, a way to challenge those who he knew would take the way of the coward were he to confront them at Hogwarts, they would draw wands. Evasion, dodging, that would enable to him to lessen the requirement upon wands. Two quick moves, a dodge, a grab, and he would be able to break said piece of wood.
Maneuvering would be integral.

Célestine always was interested in different spells and searching for new ways to quickly pass a message to someone who's not anywhere near her. Her 6th year in Beauxbatons was going full of different events and learning different spells. One of the most useful in her opinion was having her Patronus been able to deliver messages, not only protecting her. As she spent time mastering Patronus, she was quite satisfied with looking at her Eurasian wolf. The sight of him already was bringing her even more happiness and sense of familiarity.
She never was a mischievous type of child, always adhering to the rules. And up till one day she didn't really use her Patronus as messenger, except for rare times when using it to find her friend and deliver her message as means of practice. One day as she was walking alone outside the Beauxbatons castle, she felt like she was followed by someone or something. It was dark and she started to feel uneasy. Wishing to have her friend here with her or at least come to meet her, Célestine concentrated and took out her wand. "Expecto Patronus!" And the next second she looked at her Eurasian wolf going to the way where her friend was.
It probably was a huge surprise for her friend, Alain, to suddenly have his room full of bright light with Eurasian wolf Patronus making his appearance. "I feel like something is following me. Come meet me outside, please." As it finished speaking with Célestine's voice it made its way back to her. Célestine didn't know if the message was delivered and how long she would have to wait for Alain to come. But she hoped that he would arrive soon as she wasn't sure that she could fight alone. She wasn't very brave yet. However, even a brief moment of looking at her Patronus and how it went away and returned back seemed to help her a little. She felt a bit less scared now. Since it went and returned, Alain must've received my message, right? At least it worked before, so I hope it worked now too. I need it as I never needed it before. Her thoughts were starting to occupy all her mind and she strongly wished for Alain to appear soon.
After some minutes that felt too long for scared Célestine, she heard Alain calling her name and ran to him. So it worked.

Landon had always been a little scholar. He was constantly found with his nose in books, especially history books, and he really loved doing it. But he knew he needed to be more active, and he started to find an interest in other things as well. It started with reading Quidditch Through the Ages because, of course it started with a book. He was drawn in by the sport as he read about it and he loved the idea of the sport.
So he begged his parents for one of those toy brooms and rode it whenever he could, as long as it was safe to do so. He wasn't going to break the magical secrecy required, of course, but he did enjoy the riding when he could. And then his family took him to see a Quidditch match and Landon fell deeper in love with the sport. Landon wanted to play too. He knew most people were drawn to the roles of Chaser or Seeker over the others because they had some of the most exciting tasks, but Landon was drawn to the Keeper position. He liked the idea of protecting something, but also being part of a team in general was really calling to him.
When he started at Hogwarts and attended his first flying lesson, Landon felt so elated. He immediately took to the air, loving the feelings he felt with his feet off the ground and the wind rushing around his body as he flew. He quickly realized that he wanted to play Quidditch, not just read about it. He wanted to do well, and, he wanted to be a part of the team so badly. He started to practice alone, not really doing too much, but wanting to try and do well.
Landon didn't try out for the Quidditch team when he was a first year, determined not to make a fool of himself. Instead, he kept practicing to get better at flying and just spent as much time in the air as he could. When he wasn't reading about history, he was reading about Quidditch, though reading and doing were two different things. He still tried to learn what he could from the books anyway, because he didn't really have the friend group to help him improve. He went to every Quidditch game he could at the school, even when Hufflepuff wasn't playing. He wanted to learn from watching as much as he could.
And then in his second year, Landon finally got the nerve up and tried out for the Quidditch team. He still isn't quite sure how, but he was put on the waitlist for a while. He made friends on the team, with some of his friends on both the Quidditch team and the Broom Racing team helping him practice. At first, Landon wasn't very good, but he had the passion for the sport and he kept trying harder and harder to improve so he wouldn't let his team down. He was always scared to let the team down.
And then an older student took Landon under her wing. Annie Morgan, who had played every position on the Quidditch team other than Seeker and was a great guide to him. They had several training sessions, though Landon didn't really see them as training sessions as much as just time to have fun. He really loved flying and Quidditch, and working with Annie was fun and also productive. She knew how to push him so that he confronted his weaknesses and got stronger in many areas.
Landon attributes his training with Annie to his skills getting better. Landon has gotten to the point where he feels more confident in his ability and he blocks more goal attempts than he used to. He has worked really hard to improve his skills so that he wouldn't let his team down. He knows that he will get better with time as well, but he has worked really hard to improve so that he can do what he can to make the team proud of him.

Linda was always curious about different aspects of magic. However, when she started to attend Hogwarts, she started to think more about necessity of learning healing. Been kind by nature and quite emphatic, Linda hated seeing someone suffering and not been able to help much. It still didn't mean she didn't try to.
In her second year of Hogwarts, Linda decided to learn more. She had to learn what to do in all situations that were making her feel so helpless. At least she had to try to improve her knowledge so she wouldn't accidentally hurt the injured one in her frantic attempts to help. Knowing when it was better to not move the person or animal and what to do in these situations became her goal to achieve it by the end of her second year in Hogwarts.
Later Linda spent her summer with all kinds of books and questioning her brother. All for her to learn to help more injured creatures and humans. It was also a time when she found injured cat and took it home to care about its injured leg. The feeling of caring and looking at how the injury was getting healed brought her emotions she could never imagine experiencing. Where was all this care earlier? Perhaps, Linda didn't know how to express it through words. Words were usually failing to describe emotions.
In the beginning of her third year in Hogwarts, Linda became more calm and patient. She already learned a lot about healing from books. But reading could never replace the actual practice. Thinking about racing, Linda thought maybe she could use it in her future races. She wanted nothing more than just to be able to help others. Anything but to feel so helpless and wait for someone else to come to help. She wanted to rely on herself more. Therefore she thought that with all the time that passed with books and times with caring about cat and sometimes even her brother, now she was ready to be of a better help when it came to healing.
Linda was now ready to heal more and be a part of healers. Certainly, there still was a lot for her to possibly learn. More spells, more potions, more potential ways to help with healing injures, one could never stop learning in this world that constantly was changing and challenging. However, she was ready for anything and had a bit more than simple basic knowledge.

Avery has always been sneaky. Especially when she was at her grandparents house. Every day her and her cousin would go out into the woods to play. They would play games like hide-and-seek, or pretend to duel each other. Through both of these things Avery expressed an incredible ability to not be found, or miss an attack from her cousin.
Avery thought that this was normal until on day her father was looking for her at her grandparents house. He couldn't find her anywhere for about an hour until she decided to jump down from the tree she was hiding in. This shocked her father because he was an auror. It was his job to track down people.
From then on, Avery knew there was something different about her. Even when she played hide-and-seek with her muggle friend, she couldn't ever find her.
He responded by telling her that she had a gift. A gift that he had never seen before, It was as
if she was a shadow. Slipping through cracks that would not go unnoticed by a normal person.
Every day she worked hard to test to refine her ability. She wanted to make sure that it was as good as she could get it for now because she was curious about what she could do with it. Being able to sneak into the shadows would really help her as an auror. She would be able to sneak up on dark wizards that she was assigned to get. Sometimes she would sneak up to her parents as they were talking without either of them noticing. Other times she sneaked up on her cousin in order to get a good scare out of him. Finally, she had refined it enough to actually make it useful.
She couldn't wait to tell her dad, so she decided to surprise him. He was sitting at his desk reading an article from the Daily Prophet when Avery came up to him. It was only when she tapped on his shoulder that he noticed Avery was in there. He was truly shocked at how easily she was able to sneak in, and he was worried as to what she had heard, or if she had listened in on conversations without him knowing. Conversations that were meant for only the adults to hear. But he was also excited because this ability could actually be quite useful.

This isn't a magical ability; it's meant to be a quality that is natural or learned. It isn't a specific phenomenon that would be known IC, so it doesn't make sense that this is something that could come up in a book or however you're saying Avery knew about it. Please edit these things, and feel free to refer to the description here:"Watching from the shadows as a means to escape others or to simply monitor their behaviors is your skill. This could have been a skill you refined over the years or something more akin to a cat-like grace you have always possessed."

As soon as Hugh got himself a canine friend. He set out a mission for the both of them. They needed to get close and reach an understanding. He was out for one thing from the little half-crup: loyalty. He needed the little one to have his back whenever he'd get in trouble.
After hours, no days, of training, Hugh was beginning to question if he had made a mistake in trusting Sarge to ever have his back. He even suspected the dog got bored by him and purposefully sabotaged these training sessions.
The dog, named Sarge, had not proven himself even half as much as all the others Hugh liked to list in his head. Sarge was young and unfocused. A rookie, who he ironically gave a rank after naming him for the barking drill-sergeant the dog believed himself to be.
So, training wasn’t smooth sailing at all. Here he was, sitting face to face with his new dog somewhere by the lake. They had been at it for days now. Sitting, laying down, rolling over and even fetching. The dog did all a smart dog could do. And he should have felt happy about it, too. But still… there just wasn't that… click.
There were days when Sarge seemed more interested in chasing leaves or sniffing every blade of grass than following commands. Hugh’s patience was tested on these days, Sarge just never could convince him he was really there with him.
“Hey.” Hugh said firmly. Holding a treat just above Sarge’s nose. The dog tilted his head, eyes wide with anticipation. “Are you listening?” The giant repeated. Slightly agitated with the distracted dog. Sarge seemingly did not care for Hugh’s long exposition on whom he could and couldn’t trust. What role Sarge meant to play in all this.
Hugh had a tendency to keep going on and on about Galton being a fine back-up in and around school, but he could not (or rather, would not let him) follow him anywhere else. Serena would have been a great supporter, but she graduated last year and was of no use right now. He barely wanted to mention Sir Veylance's (Hugh's former cat) sudden departure. And now there was this dog who would barely understand him.
But of course, how would he? How could Sarge know about Sir Veylance, the cat, leaving Hugh behind. About Hugh’s best friend graduating from school and making Hugh lose his greatest protector in this school. How Galton, both a pest and a friend, made his life torture.
It was when the giant let out a deep sigh and sniffled away some tears that the dog’s ears flicked up. His head snapping towards Hugh with his big brown eyes staring intently at him. As Sarge tilted his head in confusion, Hugh did the same and frowned.
In that moment, after what turned out to be a particularly challenging session, Hugh sat down by the edge of the lake. And Sarge rested his head on his knee. Those big brown eyes filled with concern. It was then that Hugh realized that Sarge actually did understand.
He stroked the dog’s head gently. “We’ll get there, buddy.” He whispered. Encouraged, he decided to try again. This time, he’d keep things light and fun. He got up and started mixing in play with training. Sarge kept barking like crazy, but this time at him. And it seemed happily. They ended the day on a high note, both feeling accomplished. And Hugh understood that maybe it was him that needed to learn to trust in Sarge, not the other way around.
Over the weeks, their bond grew stronger. Hugh noticed how Sarge’s eyes would light up whenever he walked into the room, or how his tail would wag uncontrollably at the sound of his voice. But it was ultimately nap-time that became their special time, a period of rest and trust that deepened their friendship. Both of them snoring the time away.
By the time the new year rolled around, Sarge had mastered all basic commands and even a few extra tricks. But more importantly, Hugh knew they had developed a bond that would last a lifetime. He wasn’t just training some guard dog. He was gained a loyal friend who trusted him completely. And he trusted Sarge in return.

Curtis, the youngest of three brothers, stood out in a family of overachievers. While his elder siblings excelled, one in academia and the other in sports, Curtis seemed to stumble from one ill-fated endeavour to another. He'd dive headfirst into new pursuits with enthusiasm, only to discover he lacked the natural talent to truly master them.
Music, sports, academics – he tried them all, each attempt of enthusiastic engagement followed by a gentle (or sometimes not-so-gentle) landing. His peers reacted with a curious mix of amusement and bewilderment. Some found his clumsy attempts endearing, while others saw him as a source of constant amusement. Curtis, however, remained largely oblivious to these perceptions. His inherent optimism, a shield against the sting of failure, convinced him that things would always work out in the end.
This unwavering belief manifested in a series of near-disasters. He chased a runaway puppy into the middle of a busy street, narrowly escaping a collision with a barrage of vehicles. Another time, a misplaced pedal sent him careening into a thorn bush, leaving him more tangled than triumphant. Each misadventure was met with his signature refrain: "Each accident makes us wiser!" a statement that is ironic considering the lack of wisdom stats to begin with.
Then came magic. The letter of acceptance arrived, a shock to his muggle parents. Shock, of course, at the very existence of magic, pride that their son had achieved something extraordinary, and a deep-seated dread. They knew Curtis. New experiences weren't just something he tried; he dove into them head on- consequences be damned.
True to form, he attempted to ice skate on the Great Lake around the first term of Hogwarts, a solo endeavour that predictably ended with a dramatic plunge into the icy water. He hadn't even planned to be there till the night before; it was a spur-of-the-moment decision, a testament to his impulsive nature.
These constant brushes with disaster, however, revealed an unexpected strength. Curtis, despite his clumsiness and obliviousness, possessed a unique brand of courage. He faced danger head-on, often without fully comprehending the risks. This, ironically, made him quite resilient. He learned to bounce back from his mishaps, his spirit unaverred by even the most spectacular failures. Thus the "Fearless" trait, though often a source of anxiety for those around him, might prove to be his greatest asset, and compliments his character well in the ongoing future.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Calming presence
Describe why this fits your character:
WC — 652/400ReducioNote: 1. Stelle is not a real character/user on hio. (So no godmodding in my application!)Lyanna had always had a vibe about her. It was kind of like she was always sharing her happy and lively personality with others—without all the small talk. Like radiating all her positivity to the people she believed in and liked. Whenever Lyanna was around, she would always be the first to bring someone's spirits up—she could calm them down and make them happy again.
She hadn't really noticed that she had this, well, talent, yet, until the day she went to her best friend's house (Stelle) at the age of 10. Stelle had been sad for weeks after her owl died. They (Stelle and her owl) had always been really close, and in all of her adventures, her owl was always there with her, supporting her whenever she was down in the dumps, sad, angry or lonely.
As her best friend, Lyanna had come as soon as she could to cheer her up, but what she found was much worse than she had expected. Stelle's mom told her that she had been crying for the past three weeks, and was too quiet, but only calm when she slept. She had a fever and was not feeling very well. Lyanna was shocked—she totally didn't expect her friend to feel so miserable! She felt so bad that she couldn't have come earlier because she was traveling, and immediately felt the need to do everything she could to try and help.
Climbing the stairs as quickly as she could, Lyanna walked down the hall and to Stelle's bedroom and knocked. "Come in," said her friend's soft voice. Lyanna pushed the door open and rushed over to her best friend, giving her a big hug. "Stelle! I'm so sorry I couldn't come before, and, well...You'll be okay, I promise. Trust me, with me here you'll be perfectly fine very soon," she said, giving her a squeeze and taking hold of her hand. "It's so nice to see you Lyanna! You're so kind, thank you. Don't worry about coming later, it's not your fault. But...will it ever be the same again?" Her voice trembled slightly. "Trust me Stelle. It won't be the same, you're right. And even though everyone tells you to forget, don't. I know it's hard, but we need to move on and still be able to have these memories in the back on our head. At the beginning it's not easy, but after a while it starts to be part of your life," she told her friend kindly, "and I'm here just for that. To give you a shoulder to cry on. I've got your back, Stelle," Lyanna finished, giving her another hug. "You're right Lyanna. I ned to try and move on." And for the first time in three weeks, she smiled and stood up to hug her friend back.
From that point on, Lyanna knew there was something about her that was different. Every time something had happened, it was always Lyanna who raised everyone's spirits again and calmed the situation down. She started to see patterns, and learn more about her skill. She wanted to find out how it could actually be really useful to her. She tried to teach herself how to do it on command, and after a while she started to get the hang of it and it worked in many situations. After more and more practice, Lyanna was even able to give the people she was in a team with a boost, to make everyone perform better!
So many hours of practice passed, and Lyanna was now very proud of her skill. It helped her make friends, do well when working together, calm people down when they were angry (especially when they were angry at her!;) and much more. But after all, it wasn't just something Lyanna had taught herself. It was a talent because of her friendly, caring and kind personality perfectly fit for her.
2. I have not been registered to index yet, waiting for approval. Will add this ability to my trunk as soon as I've been indexed. I was told in the F.A.Q.—Questions thread that I could already apply for an ability though.
