People have already answered this question but I also want to add that the amount of money you see beside your name is NOT the amount of money that is available for you to spend. It shows your total wealth including money and items that you possess within your trunk. The amount of money you have that you can spend is shown by hovering over your profile.

Such as your total wealth is shown to be 17 galleons at the moment. That does not mean you have 17 galleons to spend as money, it means your money AND your items in your trunk all add up to 17 galleons. To find the amount of money you have available to spend and purchase items and pets etc... you have to hover over your profile and it will tell you how much you have available to you.

My total wealth says it's 429 galleons. I do not have that much money, I only have 20 galleons actually to spend/available to me. Hope that helped!
