 CICTF  Ocelot vs. Jaguar
Esme’s heart felt a little lighter when the girl she had approached introduced herself and did indeed show to have a hair tie with her. Though Naiane did not seem to smile much, she also did not sneer or turn her nose up, either — only speaking in Portuguese with her classmates. It did not bother Esme: she did not need smiles, and Naiane’s fingers worked quickly yet gently to pull Esme’s pale blonde locks into a neat plait.

“Thank you,” Esme said with a polite nod, retreating back to Camille as the group began to talk strategy.

The walk across to zone three started off uneventful — she stuck by her friend’s side, not particularly inclined to chat with the Castelobruxo students or any of their other teammates. As her sandals proved to be utterly useless on the rough terrain, Esme was a mix of upset at her presence here and glad that at least Camille had not abandoned her purely for the sake of chatting with an old friend or that one boy he kept staring at. Their conversation remained pleasant, making the too-hot and too-humid weather at least a bit more bearable.

“Oh, miss Naiane braided it,” Esme replied once Camille commented on her hair, her hand instinctively moving to feel the hair flowing down from her neck.

Soon enough, one of the Castelobruxo girls, with dotted cheeks and stormy waves surrounding her face even in a more practical style, hung back to speak to them as well. Esme listened politely as the girl tilted her chin and smiled.. “Could call it that, yes,” Esme replied politely, having to pull back a smile of her own as the girl in front of her coughed slightly as a wave of perfume hit her. “I’d certainly prefer being in the shade right now,” she joked and hoped her tone would come off as polite inquisition as opposed to interrogation. “What does your family do, then?”

It was not a few minutes after that that she heard her companion make a comment of being put onto a team with barbarians. At that coming from Camille, Esme merely raised her eyebrows. “Be nice,” she commented, certainly not feeling the lack of culture that he was claiming: as awkward as the interaction she just shared might have been, it was no crime, and miss Naiane’s gesture and the gentle fingers in her hair remained positive on the side of the supposed brutes.

Her impression was made only more positive by the downpour: or rather by the girl from earlier graciously helping her across the mud. The scent of petrichor was thick in the humid jungle air, clinging to the delicate linen shirt Esme wore. The rain and mud seemed to be putting everyone in a foul mud: before she even blinked, Camille was once again in a stare-off with the Castelobruxo boy, seemingly over who would be helping miss Naiane out of the mud. With her own footwear and position remaining… precarious, Esme simply moved along (with one eye roll more than necessary), letting them work this out amongst themselves.

She would not get more involved in this than she absolutely needed to.

This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
MODERATION — ROUND TWO.
Midsummer's activities amidst the jungle brought various challenges across each section within the jungle — zone two bringing on a persistent heatwave whilst zone four brought a mist that would only hinder their vision. From the binoculars, Meiyu observed each zone respectively, occasionally leaning forward with eagerness — hopeful something dramatic was to occur amidst the mundane movements they had performed in the previous round. Attempting to remind herself it was still just the beginning, Meiyu sighed and redirected her binoculars to observe each zone once more.

Team Ocelot's frozen solid statue, @Blair Annabelle Du Pont, had yet to move this round either, contrasting the heat amidst summer in South America and only resuming her position as the most useless teammate she had observed thus far. One moved with some wit, finally, @Eden Lorenz-Alves would be the first in the team to succeed in her endeavours, successfully setting up a trap in the area whilst her other teammate would merely stand there as though a court's jest. Though it may be accredited to no obstacles and monkeys cascading around the zone this time, if Meiyu could award Eden with some points, she would gladly do so.

Two moved to join their other counterparts in zone 2, met with a gnarly heatwave, @Sabrina Lyons and @Jarden Ardelis evidently could not cope with the weather difference, the heat too unbearable for the two. Evidently no Hogwarts alumni and capable of withstanding heat, the boy would succeed in his attempts at attempting to locate the opposing teams flag — to no avail, it simply was not there. His teammate Sabrina would attempt the same, only failing likely due to the conditions of heatstroke she may have suffered. Another member tries her best to create some form of trap, Meiyu honing in on her binoculars to observe the girl, puzzled as to what she was attempting to do with the water gushing aggressively due to the waterfall. All but few in this zone failed at whatever the hell they were trying to do.

Superior animals, Jaguars, in Meiyu's own view, succeeded in intercepting zone 2, only three, but it would suffice if outnumbered with the Ocelot's in the same zone. None experiencing symptoms and left unscathed by the scorching heat.

Diverting the binoculars once more, the sight that unfolded in zone 3 was an absolute joke. A failed attempt at laying a trap would only prove that a pretty face like @Esme Hestridge was not set out for the brute of labour — the girl appeared beyond clueless and only affirmed beliefs of her background, clearly never venturing out into such activities, yet, Meiyu was not one for gossip. @Logan Peralta Acosta, Castlebruxlo's own, clearly lacked social skills as she failed to jest with @Naiane Tomari, who had just escaped the wrath of the downpour, leaving the girl drenched.

"It's like watching dumb, dumber and even dumber." Meiyu sighed, amusing namely herself with the little commentary she gave. Finally casting her binoculars on the final zone, where the last jaguar, @Hayato Ichiyagi, would be the first to succeed in setting a trap of his own, uninterrupted by anything that would hinder his abilities to do so.

"See, I knew it was a man's job to do that!" Meiyu exclaimed, dubbing his success merely down to the fact men were utterly useless besides manual labour.

HOW TO PLAY

The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Ocelot will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Jaguar will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.

Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.

At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.

If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.

Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.

At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Meiyu Xiang before the posting deadline.

DEADLINE IS 120 HOURS (5 days) FROM THIS POST

His discreet comment had apparently not been discreet enough, for as soon as he'd let the word barbarians slip—which he still considered an accurate term for the hostile welcome they'd received—the girl with the wild mane of waves snapped her head towards him. A vein throbbed in her neck as she took a step closer, trying to appear threatening, and launched into a furious tirade in Spanish. The foreign words flew right over his head, his expression briefly settling into a question mark at her, frankly dramatic, reaction. In his defence, the fact that she took his remark so personally said more about her than him. There weren’t a lot of options, given there were only three, but his judgement was mostly reserved for the sole boy in their company. Either way, she was now here in his face, offended. Language barrier aside, the message was unmistakable. Whether she genuinely disagreed with the admittedly brash label or simply wanted to silence him for pointing out what he considered facts, he didn't have time to find out.

Ironically, threatening him to his face did little to convince him otherwise. Sucking his bottom lip between his teeth, he fought the urge to laugh at the image of a fellow first-year trying to intimidate him. Of all people, he was perhaps the least rewarding target for petty threats. He never apologized unless he'd genuinely miscalculated, which, as far as Camille was concerned, he never did. Even then, it was debatable. Never being wrong also meant that very little was important enough for him to care. On the rare occasion that something did bother him, he didn't bend; he'd simply find a way to destroy whoever had caused it. This, however, wasn't worth the effort. Fighting a girl went against everything the school of etiquette and decorum had taught him. Her strength or capability was irrelevant; the question was what threat she posed to him, truly. None. He didn't care enough to escalate the confrontation for several reasons; his dignity being reason enough. It was merely amusing that the girl thought she could frighten him when the Devil already lived under his own roof.

“Prove me wrong,” was all he said, provocation barely concealed behind an indifferent shrug, mild amusement dancing on his features from the irony of it all. Right now, she was only proving his point.

Evidently, even for someone who claimed to care so very little, his habit of pushing buttons died hard. What was the fun, if he couldn’t get the upper hand? When the girl turned away to rejoin her friends, albeit not before offering the icy beauty beside him an olive branch of a smile, Camille let her without a word, merely rolling his eyes at her favoritism. As was likely the case in every situation involving the two of them in the same school circuits, the only exception being Cecilia Merrick, Camille indulged her with the opportunity. Knowing his friend, however, he suspected she didn’t concern herself with whether she’d earned their favor or not, as long as they still treated her with respect. Whatever chance they had of earning Camille’s approval without a trial had already been forfeited.

Instead, when the girl’s attention was elsewhere, he glanced at Esme with a knowing smirk. See. What did I tell you? Her care extended far enough to tell him to ‘be nice’, but remained otherwise disinterested in his drama. Another confirmation filed away in his favor, he continued to trek through the zone with barely concealed satisfaction. Yes, he was displeased—mildly insulted, even—but at the end of the day, he wasn't looking for trouble, at least not the physical kind. The game, surely, would provide enough action and bruises that the last thing they needed was to squabble among themselves.

The next time the sub-groups were forced to interact with each other, they faced a dilemma of who should stay behind to help the girl stuck in the mud. His own suggestion, that one of the big, strong experts should show what they were worth, earned a bit of an uproar, even if it had been the most sensible decision. No one in their right mind could look at him and Esme and think they were in any condition to bathe in mud. Esme would lose her shoes at the whiff of a wind, and Camille, well, his talents would be better utilized elsewhere.

Camille had expected a reaction after his provocation. After all, that was his only source of enjoyment in these conditions, rain pouring down his frame and seeping through layers of fabric. Like the girl before him, his mocking words were quickly switched for his mother tongue, which was just as useless as the last time. Camille still didn’t understand a single word he was saying. It was the second time it had happened this morning. Bemused, brows drawn together, he wondered whether the Castelobruxo students’ English skills were simply lacking, or whether they deliberately preferred insults that ensured their target could never respond. Regardless, he suspected that whatever had been said, it wasn’t pleasantries.

“Si tu vas m'insulter, fait ça sur ma langue.”1

Not expecting anyone to understand him either, Camille took the opportunity to return the gesture in kind. He matched the boy’s glare with equal acidity, narrowing his eyes as the other student stepped closer. The significantly broader-built boy eclipsed him, yet Camille refused to move an inch, even as the confidence behind his defiance wavered slightly. Secretly grateful when the opinionated girl intervened before the situation could escalate further, sparing him from having to actually act against his own teammate—insufferable as the boy was—Camille released a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. It was settled. She would stay behind with Naiane, as the girl with the delicate fingers was called, meanwhile the rest of them, minus Esme, moved on to zone two.

Reluctant to leave his dearest behind, if only because he knew she would fare poorly should they encounter any opponents, Camille had to admit it was the most sensible arrangement. Among the Jaguars heading towards zone two, he found himself accompanied by the Beauxbatons girl whose name he still did not know and the brutish boy from earlier. Pointedly ignoring the boy, he made some appropriate smalltalk with the only girl, who had been quiet for the majority of the game.

“Beauxbatons, alors?”2 he asked with a pleasant smile, slipping effortlessly into French. “Tu es française? Je suis Camille. Enchanté.”3

The sound of a loud waterfall drowned out most of the noise as they entered the next zone. The sudden temperature shift hit him like a wall, though the heat was all in all not enough to exert himself.

After that first round, when a whole bunch of monkeys tried to steal her wand, Devon was happy to see that they did not approach her again. Such finicky little creatures that seemed ready to cause chaos and havoc! At that point, she had been unable to lay a trap, very unfortunately! As such, this round had to be better for her. Hopefully. Maybe. There was only one thing that she could do, and that was try. As many times as she possibly could!

Her green eyes passed between the two girls who were still in the same zone as her. Devon turned to Eden, hoping that bantering with her could be helpful. As part of her studies at Ilvermorny, she was learning Spanish, in addition to the other classes. She was by no means fluent, and still had to take her time to actually speak the language with any sense of what she was trying to say. She very much doubted that her attempts would even sound coherent, as they were very likely to be Broken Spanish. Of course, she also had no idea if Eden would be able to understand her completely, either. And yet, she had to try to communicate.

“¡Buen trabajo!”1 Devon called out as the Horned Serpent saw her teammate successfully lay a trap, smiling brightly. It was always great to see something work. Although as much fun as it was to lay a trap, she needed to focus on what to do next.

Progress was being made, and she focused on making a move to Zone 2, another girl followed her to the designated area she thought of travelling to. Fair enough, they were in luck that she knew a bit of Spanish. Otherwise means of communication would be greatly damaged, and their strategy won't follow through. Angel kept her eyes peeled for any openings, it would not be a sight that was definitely horrid. She moved to Zone 2 officially. The time for conversations was not her priority.

"I'm heading over to Zone 2, please keep your guard!" she swiftly said as her legs took her with the wind

She ran down north towards Zone 2. Angel would be appalled to know that the heat had skyrocketed. It was certainly irritating. Her voice was beginning to dry and she was parched.

The winds began to accelerate in high frequency as she felt it blow harshly against her ears. So far she did not see anybody yet besides Carina who was probably going towards the same zone as well.

"Where are the others? It's becoming concerning I haven't seen one from Ocelot." she whispered, a memo to herself to approach the upcoming zone in caution.

To her dismay, there were others in Zone 2, she did took a glimpse and lo behold she stood corrected as she took another gaze at the current scene. Most likely others from her team had moved to Zone 2, yet that was only an assumption. Her task at hand was to get to the next two zones.

"Hey you two! Do you see anything?" she raised her voice a smidge

In Jarden's mind, he was more resilient than this. As it turned out, he was not. Annoying, but seriously, it was ridiculously hot. All that he could really do was go on. His teammates, though, weren't looking much better. It was as though the rushing river went on forever and ever. Of course, Jarden usually wasn't one for hyperbole so that really meant something.

He wasn't quite sure where the flag would be, or even how he would be able to spot it amidst the thick foliage if it were in the immediate vicinity. What Jarden was sure of, however, was the flag's lack of presence in said vicinity.

Another voice pierced the thick blanket of noise surrounding the small trio, one of the other members of the group, if Jarden remembered correctly. "There seems to be nothing other than this absurdly large river, from what I can tell."

The game so far had, for lack of better words, been utterly boring. Uneventful, tedious, mundane, unremarkable. There were many words in English to describe it, even more if he were to think of it in other languages. Plenty of things to see, surely, but no action. That was what the whole thing was about, no?

Castelobruxo, being in South America, is surrounded by countries where the native language is not French. This is a glorious fact. But while Rina expected Spanish to grace her ears, even if not during the little game, she finds herself face-to-face with a preppy diva who seemingly knows more about fashion than being outdoors. Her coffee-brown eyes drift over him. Despite his unseemly getup, he has, at least, managed to still be upright. She offers him a nod before he starts to talk, and although the French is but elementary, it strikes deep within her heart.

Fuck.

She is not so stupid as to not understand what he says. There are enough similarities between her language and his, and she has, after all, spent the better part of the year in France. And she wants to talk. He, potentially, might be a bratty diva, but he's still talking to her, and being quiet makes her want to bounce her leg or tap her fingers and she doesn't think sneaking through a rainforest is the best time to do those things. So she nods at first, a crooked smile splitting her lips if only momentarily.

« Oui, Beauxbâtons. Mais non, je suis espagnole. » Yes, Beauxbâtons. But no, I’m Spanish. Her French, slow and almost lilting, is very obviously that of a foreigner. Her nasal vowels do not quite sound right. « Ah, Camille. Er... un beau nom. Je suis Rina, ou Rin, je ne m'importe. » Ah, Camille. Er… a nice name. I’m Rina, or Rin, it doesn’t matter. The R of her name is trilled, not throaty like it would be were she a French speaker. Thank God she's not French. She can't imagine sounding like she's choking every time she introduces herself. « Enchantée. » It’s nice to meet you.

That calamity over with, she sticks her hands in her pockets and lets out a rattly sigh. If only the cool Spanish speakers here wanted to talk to her. But there's one guy nearby. Slowly, her gaze travels to him, and she lifts her eyebrows. He said something earlier, with tenseness in his voice as if he were projecting snark towards the guy who couldn't dress for a day out in the wild. Though Rina hadn't been paying attention, she's sure it was probably funny. She moves to elbow the dude (Thales) and then crosses her arms over her chest. —Oy, tú. ¿Cómo te llamas? Oi, you. What’s your name?

White. It was all white suddenly. The fog gathered in the jungle. The heat met the water and it transformed. While it might be troubling to move for other people, but not for Hayato. With eyesight sharp like eagles and years of training in archery, Hayato easily maneuvered between the fog, the trees, and the bushes. “綺麗。”(Beautiful.) The sight was stunning. The greenery became decorative within the mist. Everything was foggy, like putting a thin whitish filter on the camera lens.

Staying in Zone 4, all alone, but he wasn’t doing nothing. He held his newly found wood stick and started digging the soft, humid dirt. Gradually, a hole was formed. He stepped one foot into it to see how deep it was. The depth reached his ankle, definitely deep enough to trip people. The tip of the stick was covered in mud. Hayato triumphantly looked at his work of art. A grin appeared on his usually serious face. Then he decided to dig more, and gather leaves on top of them. The hidden traps. Although they were not the prettiest traps in the world, they were at least useful. Maybe they would come to use in the end. Who knew?

With clear skies came a clearer mind. Once Naiane was out of the mud, she began scrunching the water out of her hair. It was a slight improvement, despite the rest of her clothes being completely drenched and sticking to her skin. After assuring herself that it would dry off soon, she combed her fingers through the ebony strands dangling in front of her eyes and slicked it back, keeping it out of her face. She had no use for any more hindrances.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a rogue remark from Logan. Naiane could only stare blankly at her before slowly blinking whilst processing her words. Perhaps that was an attempt to be amusing? Who could say. Certainly not Naiane. A quick deliberation led her to conclude that it would be best to remain silent.

An astute gaze swept over her surroundings once more then slowly drifted back to Esme who was… creating a contraption of sorts? Naiane tilted her head, observing her whilst she fiddled. Esme did not seem like the sort to play with sticks and stones, yet she handled them in a rather unusual manner. Well, whatever her end goal was, Naiane was pleased with her efforts. That was all she wanted to see; someone who was trying.

“Care for some assistance?” Naiane asked cautiously, attempting to not overstep.

Fear is a choice you embrace.

The heat was so bad Sabrina had assumed it couldn't get any worse. She was dead wrong. Her complexion soon turned a tomatoe red, standing in stark contrast to the green all around, making the witch grumble something about it 'being hard to sneak around like this'. Her fringe was half slicked back, half-sticking out from how she pushed it out of her flushed face, her left hand fanning it while her right held the rest of her hair up, preventing it from sticking to her neck and shoulders. Overall, she felt dizzy, sticky and unbearably hot. The worsening conditions weren't making it any better, the humid air so thick it felt semi-solid at points and sufficating throughout the whole area.

Cursing herself for not being better prepared for the awful weather, the exhaused raven looked around – something that was both useful and gave her an excuse to slow her stumbling step. But search as she might, she could only see shifting air and blurred images. It made her sick. Blinking the vile feeling away, she rather focused on the familiar faces approaching them.

'All I can see is my future – it's grim and overheated' the lame joke scraped against the girl's dry throat, making her wince.
