Piranha vs. Catfish
English | Parseltongue
When the game started, Della’s team got moving. It was a bit unsettling moving the jungle with only a wand in her hand. She found herself wishing she had brought her broom or her snake, Greta. As the team ventured past a refreshing-looking lagoon, Della had a mesmerizing pull toward the water. Enough time at Hogwarts had taught that odd feelings of yearning toward the unknown were most likely dangerous. She stood her ground and instead tried to focus toward looking for the flag. The other team wouldn’t have made it this easy, would they?
Thankfully, her older teammates stayed grounded near the enchanting, too. But Linda and her friend Reyna were not so lucky. They walked straight toward the water, a glossy look on their faces. Rose, the eldest Gryffindor, dashed after them and was able to bring them back to the group. Thank god, Della thought, she needed her co-captain alive and functional. It was eerie though, to think that something possibly sinsiter was so close.
“Should we keep moving forward? I’m sure the other team could be right in front of us.” Della asked this to no one in particular—she mostly wanted to keep the group focused on their task rather than whatever was in that lagoon.

26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
MODERATION — ROUND TWO.
Stakes rose as the two teams closed in on each other. Santiago watched, fully engaged, as the players mixed in zone two and three. Some ran straight ahead without notice, meanwhile others would find themselves face to face with an enemy. Besides from the threat of their opponents, none of the zones were spared from the harsh nature of the jungle, either. After giving up on the two girls in zone two, the beautiful Iara had entered a small river stream in zone one, hoping to prey on the boys lingering by the base. The older boy fell under her spell, rising to his feet and, seemingly out of nowhere, heading towards the river, disoriented and confused. His younger companion, with his mind intact, reached him before the river claimed anything more than Quentin's senses.
The Headmaster suspected the fifth year wouldn't be to much more use this round after his encounter with the Iara. @Quentin Gagné tried to give the trap another go after failing the first round. It was a good idea in theory, Santiago thought, since the other team was slowly closing in on their base. As he'd suspected, however, it came to no fruition. Perhaps they should have put another player on the job, since it seemed like the Frenchman struggled relentlessly. At least, @Axel Brooks had collected himself enough from the previous embarrassment to attempt to lighten the mood with some banter, which was, this time, appreciated.
The next zone was getting crowded. After leaving @Pax Zhang behind due to the damage from the anaconda slowing them down, the bloodthirsty Catfish stormed zone two, where some Piranhas were still loitering around. So was the anaconda who had followed the catfish from zone three, but it appeared the players had learned their lesson from the last time, since they all managed to dodge the snake when it lunged for them.
Unfazed by any snakes, @Maximilien de Fostoncy searched for the flag, coming to the conclusion that the team had not hidden it in zone two. His gaze follow the stream of the lagoon, doing a double take when it landed on a single girl. What's going on now? Santiago asked himself when he spotted @Linda Ramirez abandoning mission to stand rooted in place, expression vacant. He hoped she would get herself back together now when they were surrounded by enemies and @Vale Ashwood's booming threats still haunting these forests.
Originally following @Della Barfield and @Rose Moon into the next zone, @Aly Salinger and @Reyna Evergreen were forced to retreat when a furious jaguar pounced on the group from the foliage. Flashing its dangerous maw and lethal, outstretched claws, the animal sliced through @Aly Salinger's trousers and part of her upper-thigh.
"That must have hurt," Santiago said, grimacing when he saw the blood trickle through the torn fabric, albeit entertained.
Meanwhile, @Reyna Evergreen barely escaped with nothing more than the lower parts of her pants left in rags and blood dribbling from her ankle. The injuries were only superficial, but he didn't doubt that it hurt and would affect their performance for the remaining game. Despite the damage, Santiago had a soft spot for his familiar Patronus animal. Of course, unless the girls healed themselves, there were healers waiting to treat any injuries after the game was over. Bruised and bloody, the girls fled for their lives, back to zone two to join the rest, where another jungle animal was waiting. Outnumbered, however, the anaconda slithered away when they came running. Left staring after their injured teammates, Della and Rose escaped unscathed. @Pax Zhang was also left alone by the jaguar, leaving them only to deal with the opposite team infiltrating.
By the Catfish base, incompetence and misfortune continued to reign. While a heatwave passed without any of the boys batting an eye, @Marshal Mozor remained useless, still having failed to finish the area search he had been instructed to complete. @Gellert Schroeder failed another trap, though Santiago couldn't fathom what was so difficult about it. @Ethan Smith, after his successful flag search the previous round, decided to waste time by cracking jokes that no one found particularly entertaining.
Hopefully the next round would be more interesting, he thought and leaned back to take a minute's break.

HOW TO PLAY
The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Piranah will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Catfish will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.
During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.
Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.
At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.
If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.
Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.
At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Santiago Peralta before the posting deadline.
DEADLINE IS 240* HOURS (10 days) FROM THIS POST
* An extension has been provided because I will be hiking from on 11th to 19th july, so moderation will happen on the 19th.

Piranha vs. Catfish
Zone Four
Despite all appearances otherwise, Marshal Mozor was, in fact, playing a game of capture the flag. Perhaps he’d become distracted by any of number of things plaguing his mind, or perhaps his abilities had been restrained by some unseen force, disallowing him to carry out his end of team strategy. This jungle was a strange place, after all; who knew what manner of magic might have ensnared him?
Merlin, it was awfully warm.
Having botched all responsibilities to this point, the Hogwarts sixth year supposed he ought to feel some amount of guilt, but what was the sense in that? Past actions (or inactions) belonged exactly there, and the only way to right this proverbial ship of failure lie in present dealings. He would simply pick up his own slack, and with any luck, be a factor in a team victory. While arrogance wasn’t particularly high on his long list of vices, he found himself less than concerned.
He took note of the two boys who still remained nearby, his teammates. One he recognized as @Ethan Smith from Gryffindor’s quidditch team. In fact, if Marshal recalled correctly, the lion was more than a mere member of the team. Co-captain or something of the like. Regardless of title, Marshal was glad to have another athlete as an ally, despite his apparent lack of effective humor. He would clap the boy on the back after his attempt at a joke fell rather flat.
”You do you, man,” he said with a vaguely sympathetic smile. ”Keep em’ coming.”
As for his other teammate (@Gellert Schroeder), Marshal hadn’t the faintest clue who he might be. The fair-skinned stranger seemed rather intensely focused on his given task, though said focus did little to further its completion. The Gryffindor refrained from any snide comments regarding the failure.
”Hey, just relax. Have some fun with it. It’s a game after all, right?” The words were light, though their tone was not without its edge. He had no intention of losing this game, but relaxed allies were effective ones.
Moving out to complete his own task, he would leave them with a final thought. ”Let’s do our thing.”

Piranha vs. Catfish
Any/all pronounsBeads of sweat began dripping down Pax's forehead as they wrestled against the massive anaconda. They were hesitant to hurt the creature - the last thing they needed was to be attacked by an even more angry snake - but it did just seem that brute strength was the only way out... wait.
Taking a deep breath in, Pax forced the coils away from them as they attempted to slip out from underneath, dropping to the floor and army crawling out of the way. Mud was smearing their face, arms and clothes now, sticking to the sweat as they gasped for breath. Thank God for stop, drop and roll.
Keeping low to the ground proved to be helpful as they heard sets of footsteps getting closer - first human, but quickly followed by something more inhuman. Flattening to the ground, coated in the mud and jungle scents, a large jaguar pounced over them, managing to mostly ignore them as a non-threat (frankly, they didn't seem much like a threat objectively in this moment). They pushed themselves to stand up, knowing to keep moving to avoid any exhaustion from hitting them, trying to wipe off any dirt on their face. "This is why I stick to the sky," they mumbled under their breath, beginning to get moving again.

“Should we keep moving forward? I’m sure the other team could be right in front of us.”
With Della's suggestion and Reyna and Linda now safe from the mysterious figure in the water, the group trekked onwards. However, it seemed that while Maxi and Linda purposefully stayed behind, something caught up with Aly and Reyna. Rose took a glance around, finding that it was only her and Della that had entered this new part of the forest. In Rose's opinion, the area they had started in had been her favorite and seemed to be the least dangerous. But the more time they spent in this arena, the more danger seemed to approach them, so Rose wasn't sure if that would be altogether true. Plus, the jungle seemed a lot less threatening when it was the eight of them rallied around her newly invented catchphrase, as opposed to now the two lions making their way through the forest with only each other.
The redhead thought she saw some other students pass her through the thick foliage, but at the moment couldn't be exactly sure. Rose was on edge- it felt like any minute now, anything could jump at them from the shadows, whether the doing of this mysterious rainforest or their opponents. With a glance and a hopefully encouraging nod towards her fellow housemate to ensure they were still together in this, Rose kept moving forward, heart beating in her ears as the Piranhas' plan continued to unfold.

Seriously, Vale was starting to think that giant snake, or snakes, had nothing better to do than to become a part of Vale's upcoming fashion heels. She slipped by the scaly beast like nothing. She barely even took note of the familiar fellow broom captain and former broom racer of opposing teams. She twisted her head, scanning her environment for any more enticing signs of danger. She had to spit out a leaf from her mouth after pushing through a bunch of bushes and trees to get to where she was. Vale was almost eager to turn back around and collect the leaves and various items that she was sure were potion ingredients. But she was also very sure she wasn't going to be treated well by her teammates if she was caught lollygagging about.
"Victims, just as I anticipated!" Vale laughed. "Linda Ramirez! Finally, I can have my revenge! Your death here will bring wondrous, joyful news to my team upon my return!" Vale stretched her nails out as if she were a beast of her own. It was a surprise that nobody had yet questioned whether or not she was truly human, at least to her face.
Vale's neck snapped again upon seeing Reyna Evergreen. Huh. Maybe there was a ticket discount sale for student broom users. Though Vale was pretty sure she didn't get any such thing. "And you! Reyna...!" Vale had to think. She usually didn't forget things. "Ever...grass? Tree? No. GREEN. Reyna Evergreen! Uh..." Vale clicked her nails together, "I forgot what I was going to say. Make sure you're still alive for a little while longer until I remember!" She crackled, "I need to start carrying a notebook of names..." Vale was quick to grumble out. Well, in fairness, the victim count was getting too high, and remembering all of their names is becoming much too hard of a task as the years go on...Action: As Strategized.Fearless / Poison Resistance / Terrible Presence / P. Axel watched as his older teammate wandered towards the river. Was he thirsty? He thought confused, but then he saw the Iara, a siren type creature. That was probably what had ensnared his teammate. "OI! Where are you going?" He yelled in a confused tone then Axel grabbed the guys sleeve to pull him back. And gosh it was difficult as he was trying to tug an almost adult back. Unfortunately, Axel wasn't the strongest for his age, he liked to rely on his sarcastic remarks rather than his fists so trying to help his teammate against the Iara was a workout in itself.
Luckily this time, his banter en français was very helpful and actually made his older school counterpart laugh? It definitely surprised the younger boy especially as his whole personality was based off trying to piss people off enough so they ignore him or better, leave him the hell alone.
As the leaves around him rustles, he started to think that the other team should be coming through the treeline in any second.... Right?
"Uhh Quentin.... They'll be here soon right...?As for ideas, I think I'll know more healing, defensive stuff... Hopefully you know many more spells than me right? You know as I'm much younger...."

Her team didn't seem to be doing too badly, and Aly breathed a sigh of relief from her newly-entered zone, ready to follow some more of her randomly assigned teammates into the brush of the next area. She had certainly lucked out with having been placed into such a capable group. At least, these were her thoughts before the leaves moved in front of her, and out pounced a huge cat.Banner by me!

In the milliseconds that followed, Aly at first assumed it was @Evelynn Decipio; she had not been unaccustomed to seeing a large panther around, after all. But this furry creature was quite different from Eve's sleek form - spotted, for one. Aly only had time to realise that it was not her redheaded friend and throw up one hand in self-defence before it was upon her, slashing gashes through the black-clothed thigh on her left side. The Ravenclaw cried out, stumbling back a few steps into her previous zone; clearly, she would not be able to follow her teammates into 3 as easily as she had anticipated.
"Shit. Shit," she mumbled under her breath, pressing the heel of her palm against the wound to staunch the blood flow. Healing it could come later. Right now, there was a game to win, and Aly needed to play her part as much as her teammates needed her to do so.

Piranha vs. Catfish

| ..... | English | French banner by aly salinger! While some of his teammates kept venturing forward, Maxi decided to halt. Lingering, he slowed down his footsteps, instead focusing on the surroundings. Would the Catfish be bold and sly enough to hide their flag unanticipatedly in zone 2? Maxi doubted it, but still, meticulous as he was, he hoped to make sure. He was just shifting his attention to the trunk yonder when an anaconda slithered in, trailing after a troop of Catfish. Unfazed, Maxi spared a look at the intruders. It took him a few seconds to confirm that Gellert was not among them, and another few seconds to step away from the snake, before turning to his own task. Maxi tiptoed, actively searching his surroundings, trying to spot the faintest hint of the enemy flag. Over there...? No, just a mere old twig. And there...? Probably not. Nothing was under the thickets nor between the branches fluttering in the wind. Turning his steel grey gaze to the river, Maxi took his time observing the shimmering water, only to come to the conclusion that it wasn't there either. Fair. He did not suppose that they would conceal the flag that was near the Piranhas' base anyway. Straightening up, Maxi cleared his throat, trying to catch his teammates' attention. "The flag's not in zone 2." He announced to his team with confidence, having done a thorough search of the area. Perhaps she was too distracted by her thoughts about Quentin. She didn't notice that she stopped moving while the chaos started around her. She was surprised but also exhausted. Why did everything had to have something dangerous? She sighed.
She looked around more focused now, trying to determine how close she was to any mess. And what about her teammates? Reyna? Quentin? She didn't like what she could see, so she only hoped it all will turn out to be alright. So she just held her wand closer in an attempt to comfort herself and saw what she could do.
However no matter how much she tried to focus on the game, her thoughts were keeping returning to her bestie and her boyfriend. She hoped they were safe, despite realizing that it might be harder to do. To stay safe here was apparently a challenge of its own. Linda sighed again. She wasn't sure that they would be safe when the game finished, but she hoped so. She definitely had to keep hoping so she could finally return her thoughts to the ongoing game.
It was time to focus on her own path. Even if she wanted to check on others, she had to concentrate on their task and not let her teammates down.
