Maybe she was simply too tired, for she was not able to reconstruct what had happened just now. No ultra powerful spell, no solid hit - Kim evaded pretty swiftly, and Lindsey bit her lips as she retook her stance. She was quick enough to walk out of Rose's Blasting Curse's way, but was inevitably caught by some chips. Evelynn, on the other hand, simply wiped the floor with the badgers - crackling sounds continuously rang in her ears, splinters exploding in front of her eyes - Lindsey inhaled sharply, squeezing air into her lungs. Haven was such an angel to perform the Healing Spell on her, and Lindsey gratefully managed a smile at her fellow 7th year badger. "Ha...aven...tha..thanks." Her breath was uneven, gasping as she tried to speak. Calm down. She told herself. It's not over yet.

A quick glance to the clock showed that half the time still remained for the duel; a swift assessment of all those standing, however, hinted at a conclusion that was fast approaching. Ears ringing with the echoes of a dozen crackers and splintered explosions, Evelynn's parted lips gave way to exerted respirations. Her own self-inflicted wounds still throbbed with a full ache, yet she remained one of the luckier participants. Especially after the recent barrage, the badgers were starting to look quite a bit worse for wear. Springhill, in particular, looked like she was on her last legs, barely able to string a complete sentence together as she directed thanks to Bohannon for a well-timed heal and reprieve that came with it. She was glad to see, at least, that Kim had evidently taken her request to heart, deftly avoiding the worst of the combined two-prong assault, and she gave a singular nod of approval in his direction.

"Just a bit more.." It was still too close to call, of course. A single backfired spell could tip the scales firmly in one direction or the other, but if the lions could keep the momentum and maintain control despite the smell of blood and the temptation to hurry in for the kill, they might actually be in position to claim a hat trick.

Evelynn's spellcasting skill was truly a force to be reckoned with. It was almost like the Cracker Jinx had been invented with her in mind, because once again, the opposite side of the stage practically erupted, each of the badgers feeling her power. "Well done," she said, with an undertone of awe in her voice. Rose and Kim also sent spells towards the Hufflepuffs, but both missed their targets. Rose, at least, was able to contribute, as her curse hit the stage and splinters were sent flying towards Lindsey.

Kim seemed to be the duelist struggling the most currently, and yet, had the best attitude? Rose wasn't really sure how he was so optimistic, but she guessed smiling wasn't the worst dueling tactic. Lindsey wasn't much different from him, though, and the redhead avoided her gaze, finding it difficult to find satisfaction in the pain of her current opponents. The Slytherins had been much easier to beat, being more sarcastic and arrogant, but these Hufflepuffs seemed like just genuinely nice people.

She told herself to focus and reminded herself that with the end of the duel approaching, one way or the other, this was no time for thoughts of mercy.

How frustrating to slowly claw it back before suddenly losing it again. While she imagined it kept the audience on their toes, Lea didn't like this side of the scale. It didn't feel as though they were doing anything wrong either- the issue lay in the distance between, the spells that didn't connect and the lions somersaulted across their side of the piste. The intention had been that Kim would be out for the count yet somehow he had avoided that fate as Lea's spell just barely found its mark, the lost force rushing past just as another round of crackers flew towards the Hufflepuffs. If only they could be as nimble or perhaps as accurate, there was certainly a lot to learn from their opponents. The penultimate year seemed rather late for a teaching moment.

Morning Slot

To force an explosion just as deadly at the end of its impact as at the beginning, the momentum had to keep building. Once more, Lindsey and Rose exchanged a riotous cascade of wizarding crackers that spilt across the piste in deafening concurrence. Though their original targets had narrowly avoided the brunt of their aggression, the merciless spillover was enough to justify such terrifying means to an end. In the explosive war of attrition, even when peripherally threatened, Haven had, by now, been dedicated entirely to healing her teammates. With several repetitive rounds on her end, she'd finally gotten a grasp on the art—this time, her Reparifors seemed so beautifully cast and practised that the difference was material. The flash of magic that soothed Lindsey's wounds would feel slightly stronger than usual, a welcome defence against all who aimed to harm her.

Not every flashy feat of magic upon the piste required several lessons in simultaneous salvo, however. From Lea came two shots of silver light, the spell spinning and splitting off just brightly enough to warn both Kim and Rose of the imminent danger just as it threatened them. In the narrowest sense of the word, the two managed to dodge away just in time for the doubled cast of Rictusempra to hit the piste and disappate harmlessly. Kim shot back with a precisely aimed Ventus that honed in on Lindsey and buffeted her hair and clothes. Evelynn matched his zeal, and between the multiple Confringos and Cracker Jinxes that had blown up in Haven's face, her windblown success proved too disorienting to continue.

The moment she fell, Cassius shot up a hand to pause the duel at its midpoint, the other hand shielding his eyes from the fierce winds still buffetting the piste. "A moment, please!" He stepped between the two teams as medical pulled Haven from the piste, shooting a questioning glance towards Lindsey as well. She looked terribly rough in the deafening quiet, holding on if only by sheer willpower, yet still conscious despite everything. He wasn't quite sure how long that'd last. Kim, too, seemed somewhat worse for wear than his teammates. If neither made the move to join Haven as she was taken to the Hospital Wing, however, Cassius would step back into his moderator's place and look towards all participating duellists in preparation. "If no one has any objections──tell me if you do──we will continue."

"HAVEN!!" was her helpless scream, after her fellow seventh-year badger performed a textbook-perfect healing spell on her. Wet, splintered, and caught in a gust of wind, Lindsey was stubbornly clinging to dear life with one last breath, watching Haven fall and having the utter powerlessness wash over her. She gasped for breath as the medics moved Haven from the piste, waving off to signal the mod kid, who looked a bit concerned about her own condition, that she was still fine. Well, maybe not for long, but she wished to fight to the very end.

It certainly had not been a typical showing of the Gryffindor team's approach to duelling, wherein they would generally concentrate attentions on a single opponent to burst them down into unconsciousness while controlling the others. The badgers had proven themselves too wily for that, too enduring. Perhaps it should have come as no surprise given their penchant for toiling. Instead, Evelynn and her teammates had been required to split their focus, to gradually whittle away at their opponent's stamina and resolve with the hope that they could do so before the badger's did the same to them. And finally, the pieces were starting to fall into place.

After a well directed jet of buffeting wind and supporting singes of exploding wizard crackers, Bohannon was the first to hit the deck. Springhill had, for a moment, appeared as though she was about to do the same, but with the help of a beautifully cast healing spell in Bohannon's last moment, had clung to one final vestige of energy as though by force of will alone.

A glance to her teammates revealed that both Rose and Kim remained standing. Perhaps the latter was owed more credit than Evelynn had previously given credit. He may have been below the average duellist in terms of casting, but he was far more nimble than partners of previous years. Given the way he had been consistently targeted, most others would have succumbed by now. Yet there he stood, his very evasiveness a goad to their opponents. Credit where it was due.

"Your ice cream is on me," Evelynn felt compelled to offer with a rare glimpse of a smile. Having kept the badger's attention as he had, he deserved to be rewarded. "Keep it up."

Then to Rose—whose appearance sported a few more singed than she had moments ago—she commented, "Just a bit more. One last push ought to do it, but..." She let the statement hang in a silent question.

And there it was again, just ever so slightly off. She had opted for a return to the basics as she often did when trying to split a single target spell, but this time trying a new angle. The main concern at the moment was Gryffindor's remarkable accuracy, so impeding that a bit with a trade of less damage seemed fair- Rictusempra it would be. Yet it was not only the lions' accuracy that would pose an issue but their evasion as well. How nearly Lea had caught them off guard only for both Kim and Rose to successfully maneuver out of the way at the very last second. At least Rose wasn't able to hit her back but the rest of the Hufflepuffs were not as lucky. Lea looked almost confused by the stoppage before turning to see the state of both her teammates, Haven collapsed on the ground and Lindsey near teetering over to join her.

"You did well, we can go grab some dessert later to celebrate the year," Her eyes trailed behind the medics as she whispered to the air before turning to Lindsey. "Thank you for holding on a bit longer- let's have some fun before we go?" Cracking a small smile, the Sixth Year turned back to her opponents and waited for the all clear to continue.

Dueling really was something that he'd never thought he'd get into as much as he'd done over the years. It had been lots of ups and downs, mostly the latter starting around his second year. But ever since Rose and Eve had become his partners, things had started to look up. The two were seniors he actually respected and loved being around, even if he didn't vocally state this often. He really would miss them when the year was over but maybe they would remain friends even after they graduated. Kim nodded as Eve told him just a bit more and even offered to pay for his ice cream. "Well, if you're going to do that, I expect you to come too. I won't be eating it all by myself!" He told her with a rare, genuine smile. "I'll do my best." He told her regarding keeping upright, looking back over at their opponents, just in time to avoid Lindsey's Cracker Jinx. It was a beautiful spell but Kim had taken damage from that one a lot and was now able to avoid it with relative ease. He also managed to evade Lea's spell at the same time, having predicted they would both go after him. He hadn't expected Haven to heal Lindsey, Kim had thought she would have gone after him too. Eve's Ventus went off perfectly as usual but Kim wasn't surprised. Eve was amazing, she always had been.

Even though Rose's Cracker Jinx didn't hit her target, at least two of them suffered radius damage, so that was something good. "Good job, Rose. Even though you didn't hit, the radius damage got to them!" He said with a smile. As for Kim, his Ventus actually made contact with his target which felt great. The sixteen year old might be good at evading spells aimed at him but hitting with his spells was a little worse. So, he always loved the feeling of his spells actually hitting their target, it felt as if he was getting better each time he succeeded. Not sure how much longer he'd be able to stand for, Kim resolved to continue to evade as much as he could. As long as he could remain standing for as long as possible, he felt as if he could contribute to his seniors. He nodded at Eve's words of encouragement to Rose. Kim glanced over at their opponents again. "We should hold a party to send off all those graduating later. I'll miss you all." Kim said and prepared himself to finish.

It wouldn't take long for the duel to come to an end now and they would probably need something to replenish their energy level. "I brought some chocolate frogs if you three want some at the end of the duel." Kim added. He would give one to everyone at the end of the duel, his teammates and opponents alike.

Another round of wizarding crackers was sent Lea's way, along with two streams of wind from her teammates. The crackers didn't hit her main target, but that was alright in Rose's eyes because that wasn't really who she was aiming to hurt. It wasn't long after that the duel was stopped and Haven was on the ground. Lindsey would have joined her, if not for her fellow badger's last efforts to help her team. Momentarily, the redhead lowered her wand, taking a quick look at the lions around her. Evelynn offered to buy Kim's ice cream, and Rose suppressed a smile at the witch's growing warmth towards their younger teammate. Rose nodded at Evelynn's comment. It was true- they were so close to victory, and now the odds were definitely in their favor, with the Gryffindor team holding onto all three of its duelists.

Kim commented that they should have some sort of party, and Rose smiled. "That would be nice. We'll miss you, too," she said, taking a brief liberty to speak for her fellow lioness. She wasn't confident that Evelynn would admit that she would miss him, but Rose could see that her heart towards Kim had changed since their clumsy first attempt at a duel. Not long after he mentioned that he had chocolate frogs for after this. Of course he did. Kim always seemed to have some kind of sweets on him to share, and Rose couldn't say she didn't appreciate it. She grinned. "Ice cream and chocolate frogs? We're really celebrating."

As Haven was taken away, something Rose didn't particularly enjoy watching, the lioness turned her gaze back to their opponents. "Let's finish well, yeah?"
