Cecilia has many flaws, but the most notable is her sensitive nature; a double-edged sword. Although it can inspire acts of empathy, there are moments when it deprives her of all logic and reason. Cecilia barely recalls her parent's passing, however, she vividly remembers the aftermath as her worst memory. Attending galas and gatherings alongside her grandparents as though everything was fine. Listening to the hollow, pitiful remarks about her left a lasting bitter taste in her mouth.

Her sensitive nature. Cecilia feels emotions deeply and intensely. Although this is thinly veiled by her laid-back demeanour, it can be rather easy to form cracks in her mask.

Few things seem to be as effective as spite, which is what pushed her to be a prefect. However, her growing desire to protect her loved ones has sparked some unusually altruisitic behaviour from her such as her newfound devotion to healing.

An obsession with maintaining appearances or chasing perfection. The pressure of being a Merrick and protecting their good name weighs heavily on Cecilia. Her grandmother often reiterates the importance of her standing in society, through letters and direct lectures. Cecilia simply wants to be a child for now and prefers to be around those who do not remind her of this status.

Cecilia speaks English with a melodic accent that combines features from a West London accent and the Shropshire dialect. Her education has introduced heavy influences from recieved pronouncation that often overshadow her roots. You may hear her use light glottal stops and broad sounds, but she tries to ensure her ennuciation is clear.
In French, she speaks with a Breton accent, pronouncing her vowels with a distinct intonation and her 'r's softly and incorporates loan words.
She is still learning Gwenedeg, the Breton dialect her maternal grandparents speak. Her Welsh is quite poor, so her accent lacks the melodic flow native speakers have and can sound rather awkward.

If she is fortunate to not fall asleep at the table, she will freshen up in the prefect's bathroom. Cecilia favours her nightly routine. Upon entering the common room, she casts used parchment into fireplace. These are typically covered in scribbles or fake notes taken during class, but may include letters she to be disposed of. She then lingers around to speak to some snakes, ensuring that their concerns do not fall on deaf ears. Once she has had enough, Cecilia politely excuses herself for the evening. When she is not on patrol, she will freshen up in the prefect's bathroom and retire to her dorm. It takes a few moments for her to braid her hair and slip into her silk nightgown. She then burdens her roommate with details of her day until she is told off.

  I struggle to find a better description than the one written by Samuel Sauber.
  
  His greatest strength is also his most vital flaw: he believes. Deeply. In ideas, in people, in futures that have not earned right to exist. It makes him magnetic to most, but it also makes him reckless. He bends rules not for the sake of "must" but because he can. I've seen this lead him to brilliance, but it also leads to unnecessary fallout that he laughs off more easily than he should.

• what is Anthonie's best and worst memory?

  Anthonie has made it one of his life's goals to live with an accumulation of great memories. Therefore, he has far too many to reduce to just one. If he had to choose, the following would be among it, in chronological order: the family ski trip when he was eight years old, his ski trip with Samuel Sauber, backpacking Europe with Arkady Piecyk, Roadtrip with Kitty Townsend and Samuel Sauber, his last date with Yasmina Cairns as his girlfriend and the subsequent proposal.
  
  Very little truly terrible things have happened in Anthonie's life. If choice is a must it would be the death of his grandfather Christiaan and the events that followed it. Although he was never quite close to the man, seeing the second hand grief from his parents, uncles, and aunts shook him. His choice to remove himself from family life for some time was in part a response to this.

• what is Anthonie's biggest fear?

  Anthonie is deeply inspired by the fear of being ordinary. He is motivated by his fear of sticking too close by regularity and leading a life he is never quite satisfied by. As he matures, he has discovered what it truly means to be ordinary and extraordinary, and how he could achieve the latter on purely his own terms. He is a dreamer, and he fears his dreams never coming to fruition because of what ties him down in the world.

  interesting, effortlessly polished, restlessly intelligentset apart in a crown, fire given form itself, boisterous, sharp-edged, and unapologetically alive, without predictability and without adherence to any system, difficult to categorise, a dreamer, not the idle plebian sort, but among the dangerous of the sorts, magnetic to most, but it also makes him reckless, boy wonder, a little exhausting.

  Anthonie's most prized possession is his pair of sunglasses with his initials (A.C.E) on the corner. A gift from his grandfather for his thirteenth birthday, he had worn it whenever in sun since then and until now, for almost thirteen years. Not only does it carry sentimental value, it has brown to be a part of his signature brand. When not worn and appropriate, it usually hangs at his collar during idle conversation.

  Anthonie has almost none true insecurities, as it clashes with his perception of the world and where he belongs in it. To him, there is no reason whatsoever for him to experience any insecurities. Being accustomed to being a younger member of the room, a radical voice, and harbouring a rebellious spirit, perhaps if any slips through, his insecurity would be his rebellion and hope amounting to nothing.

  The belief that the world is malleable if struck at the correct angle long enough. He wants to change the world and genuinely believes he is capable of it. His desire to make a difference greatly motivates him, because it is not based on groundless delusions but what he believes to be truth facts. He sees the world not as beautiful because he believes it is a merciful one, but because he believes he and his work has the potential to make it more beautiful.

• what angers Anthonie?

  Any kind of injustice in the world, even if he benefits from it. Anyone lacking a moral compass. Any discrimination: racism, sexism, agism, etc. Anthonie is deeply bothered by the unfairness of the world. When genuinely valid thoughts of people are not heard out or dismissed. Narcissistic people or people who think they are inherently superior to others. People who risk the safety of others with their own actions.

• what makes Anthonie happy?

  A lot of things. Anthonie's mindset allows him to find joy in many things. He can frame a lot of situations to act in his favour and benefit from his optimistic ideology. If he had to say, it would be doing his hobbies, which can include skiing, wildlife photography, surfing, or creating music. He, contrary to many other people, feels especially at ease when he is in front of a crowd, and happy when he is making an impact on people. He is extremely happy when he is with family or friends and loves to spend time with the people he loves.

  A lot of things. There is hardly anything Anthonie dislikes about himself. Some of the things he likes about himself include his confidence, his moral compass, his principles, his values, his desire to make the world a better place, and the way he treats people. What he likes most would be his ambitions and dreams. Ultimately, they are what propels and motivates him.

  Highly positive. Anthonie enjoys a close bond with his family.   Anthonie's accent, across all his languages, would not strike as surprising. In his native languages of English and Afrikaans, he has, respectively an Anglo South African accent and a Kaapse Afrikaans accent, both a signal of his hometown. In his second language of Swahili, his accent is highly mixed, one of the consequences of growing up in the multicultural environment of Uagadou. In his acquired languages of French and German, he speaks the Swiss dialect, and his lack of native proficiency would only be noticeable to a native ear.

  Anthonie has many different smiles, each reserved for a different situation. Amongst friends and family, his grin is contagious and vivacious. Among acquaintances, his smile is willed, but not forced. Among strangers, his smile is polite and reserved. When angered, his smile calms himself down. When joyous, his smile is hardly able to control. Rather than contradicting each other, this instead shows the multi-layered facets of how he behaves.

  Anthonie is either terrible liar or a smooth as hell one. Sometimes, he lies for comedic effect, and in such a case, the tells are obvious. A crinkle around his eyes, lips splitting in a smile, a laugh coming up from his throat. However, he was also raised on diplomacy, law, and politics, and he certainly knows how to lie like he depends on it. In such cases, although not often, the tells for his lies would be very difficult to capture by the normal eye.

  Anthonie's most signature mannerism is sliding on his sunglasses. He always carries himself with confidence, chin up and shoulder back, and speaks with a steady, commanding voice, yet one with the ability to be gentle. His eyes gleam when experiencing intense emotion, whether it be joy, anger, or sadness. He does not fidget, and rarely hums or whistles. If required, he prefers to fill space with conversation and action rather than meaningless sounds and movements just to exhaust energy.

Her greatest strength is like her wit and her kindness.

Um…Trying to help too many people. She once broke her arm at age 6 to help her little sister.

Best memory is becoming a K-pop trainee! Worst is when she has to leave Switzerland.

Same as insecurity.
How would others describe your character?
She’s super sweet and kind and funny. Once you get to know her MUCH more she’s a little chaos queen. Don’t get on her bad side though…

Favourites

Food: all sorts of milk chocolate, especially when combined with anything caramel.
Color: Often shifts but is most commonly tangerine orange.
Film: While Dido hasn’t truly been exposed to enough films so far, she says and believes that the Lord of the Rings films are her favourite.
Person: In truth, Dido’s favourite person is Dido herself. Her mothers are just that, her mothers, and, while she adores them, it is very much the basic way a child idolises their parents.
Plant: At home, Dido has a blossoming cacti garden (all of which are of course cat-friendly!)
Drink: Hot Chocolate!
Song: Lobachevsky by Tom Lehrer- Irene (her mother) used to play it in the car with Dido.
Hobby: Dido absolutely adores the simple process of writing. She’s happy to write anything from stories to instruction manuals as long as ink is covering the paper.
Music Genre: Taylor Swift style pop.
Type of Clothing: Multi-coloured myriad of slightly off-putting and vaguely mis-matching clothes including but not limited to: various sock varieties, many dark tie-dye t-shirts and bright scarves.
Place: The Hogwarts grounds, especially during the Lyrids event, were so oddly comforting to her, though she doesn’t quite understand why. They remind her the most of her parents.
Book: Dido hates reading but her favourite book would be the first textbook on magic she read, specifically, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.
Animal: Her favourite animals are dragons, since she heard that they actually exist. Her favourite actual animals are currently her family’s cat, “Hellie” or parrot, “Terry”.
Weather: Dido loves the winter or autumn weather where there is a slight breeze but the air is crisp and cold.

What is her greatest strength?
Her ability to imitate and adapt. Dido has developed/will develop this constant skill at shifting her behaviour to mirror someone else’s, allowing her to subconsciously overcome anything she would “normally” not do.

What is her greatest weakness?
Despite it being her strength, Dido’s adaptability is sourced from an underlying sense of insecurity and irrational fear which drives her “parroting” behaviour, sometimes leading her to obsess over those she admires to an unhealthy extent.

What is her best and worst memory?
Dido “best” memory is one that has been reinforced and shaped by her parents’ descriptions of the day rather than her own comprehension. Apparently they picnicked down near a stream with her grandparents and uncle, eating strawberries covered with chocolate and laughing over everyone’s attempts to make little Dido giggle. Dido’s true recollection, if she even has one, involves only flashes of sunlight and a blue and orange picnic blanket.
As of yet, Dido’s worst memory, and moment, was the moments after she was sorted into Slytherin, during which she sobbed rather too publicly for her liking, up in front of the school.

What is her biggest fear?
That she isn’t truly as clever as she believes she is. Dido naively believes intelligence to be the only meaningful mark of whether someone is a “good” person and so sees it as the be-all, end-all success marker for her life.

How would others describe your character?
“unable to control a single library book”, with an “altogether pusillanimous demeanour”, “kind”, “sweet”, “not very confident”, with “abandonment issues”, “odd”. There is, most certainly, a theme. (she’s a little bit of a coward apparently)

What is her most prized possession?
Since receiving it at the beginning of the year, Dido has absolutely treasured her intricately-designed blue journal which her parents gave her. In fact, since the beginning of May 2026, Dido has taken great care to use the most beautiful handwriting while writing, taking much more time than her instinctual scrawl.

What is her deepest insecurity?
Thankfully for Dido, she hasn’t yet developed any real understanding or awareness of her insecurities, especially her deepest one: that not being “clever” enough means that she isn’t good. This is because she fully equates intelligence, specifically academic intelligence, with being a successful and good human being.

What motivates your character?
An ongoing desperation to become whoever she admires at the time that drives all of her actions.

What angers your character?
Dido’s mind automatically defaults to anger whenever her thoughts get too close to acknowledging any of the possibly mis-guided actions she had been taking. So anything that begins to remind her or make her think more introspectively will likely result in Dido lashing out in anger. Similarly, whenever Dido begins to feel insecure (from a few questions before) seeing someone who is cleverer than her (many people) and, rather than processing the insecurity or even just repressing it, she instead lashes out at the people.

What makes your character happy?
Before Hogwarts, anything doing classically “fun” for kids would make Dido incredibly happy. She loved feeling like she has helped or made others happy, encouraging her to be a (morally) good person. Since Hogwarts in late April, the only times she has felt truly unhappy is when she thinks too much about what she is doing though, when she is not, as most of it is either distracting or false, it’s not exactly happiness she feels.

What does your character like about themself?
She loves the part of her that causes others to think of her as sweet but she doesn’t really have any actual like for any part of herself as it all comes from the effect on others.

How is her relationship with their family?
Dido adores her mothers but very much loves them as parents rather than actual people. They and all of the other adults all fuss over her and Dido enjoys that but doesn’t really appreciate it.

Similar to what angers her. Also successful people her age.

Descriptions

Describe her accent
Dido generally has a contemporary RP accent with the occasional hint of Glaswegian sometimes existing in certain words and phrases: saying words like “loch” the Scottish way and often referring to churches as kirks. (as she has no religious influences in England whatsoever). Her actual voice is quiet soft and quiet though, at times, it goes high-pitched and loud with excitement or breathlessness.

Describe her smile
Dido smiles with her full face, a wide toothy grin taking over as the skin around her eyes and nose creases. Like many people during Covid, she learnt the practise of smiling with your upper face only and still occasionally does that, effectively squinting at people.

Describe her "tell" for lying
To be fair to Dido, she doesn’t really intentionally lie enough to have developed a clear tell for it. The only factor is mainly due to the fact that she’s a bad liar and has to desperately try not to laugh.

Describe her mannerisms/habits

Describe her typical first impression
Generally, people seem to see Dido as either sweet or vaguely annoying but most consistently nervous. In situations where she might meet someone for the first time, generally where she meets many people for the first time, she gets quite unsure of herself so this is reflected in their impressions of her. No matter how quickly she develops confidence, that first impression sticks for a long time before being replaced, perhaps because of the slight nervous energy she always possesses.

Describe a recurring dream for your character
Ever since Dido first flew in a lesson, she has had vivid dreams of soaring through the air on the back of a broom. However, more specifically within that genre of dreams, about three or four times now she has dreamt that she was standing on the back of a broom, being chased by a bludger while the rest of her “team” fly contently around her, having what seems to be a tea party with floating candles and plants.

Describe the contents of her bag
As an extremely disorganised, but not messy, person, Dido’s bag contains many many lost quills and pens littered across the bottom with ink-stained textbooks resting above them. Recently, it has always contains her blue journal.

Describe how your character wants to be seen
How Dido wants to be seen does shift continuously but, as of May in her first year, she wants to be seen similarly to how she views Mikaela Hendricks, who is a first year Ravenclaw whom Dido sees as utterly perfect and flawless in every way.
