Camp 2024  Summer Duels, Match 5
Hadashi was beginning to become EXTREMELY frustrated. This was NOT how duels were supposed to go. They were supposed to be evenly matched, both sides flinging spells at each other until superior strategy won out.
This. This was a mockery of what a duel is supposed to be. Nothing was working for him and Miroshu-san. But, Miroshu-san was showing no signs of giving this up, so neither would he. One way or another, he was seeing this duel through.

Rett could only watch on helplessly at a round that honestly... was pretty good for them. Milosh didn't even get a spell off, Cyrus dodged quite well and then hit Milosh square in the chest. Honestly, he had never seen a duel so clearly decisive in who the better spellcasters were. Finally, his body came out of the freeze all at once.

Quickly he stumbled back to Cyrus' side, not at all as graceful as he wished he could've been. His wand raised back up, prepared to cast once more. "I am indeed, that was a nice spell. Now, let's kick some-" He paused, searching for a word choice to play with Cyrus in his little fiddlesticks world (even though ass wasn't even really a swear in his mind). Because honestly, why not? "Man, I have to give it to you. Being creative is harder than you think. Let's kick their ass, we'll work on my word choice later."

Though he knew he wasn't technically supposed to root for anyone, Julian couldn't help a small sense of relief when, at the moment both Cyrus and Rett let off a flurry of firecrackers in the direction of Milosh, the boy conjured a shield that managed to absord the entirety of the barrage. He wouldn't have fancied being on the receiving end of something like that, especially not while fighting a gust of wind trying to throw him off balance. He also wasn't sure he could've quite held the spell either.

Hadashi, unfortunately, did not think to do the same, and a wayward firecracker veered in his direction, singing the bottom of his robes with its sparks. He'd probably been too busy attempting to get both of his opponents with the Dancing Feet Spell, And it had been a good attempt. While he hadn't hit both of them -- the spell that had ostensibly been meant from Cyrus had gone wildly off course and passed closer to Everett -- he had gotten a hit on Rett's shoulder, prompting the boy's legs to flail all about into what looked like a reasonably of approximation of an extremely wild Irish jig.

Julian found himself wondering what would've happened if he'd been hit by both spells. He couldn't imagine the dancing getting much more energetic.

Well, shit.

Maybe him and his wand didn't have the best relationship this duel. His spell went off fine, but then it shot back at him? "Ah!" His cry was something between a yelp and a scream, leaving him shaking out whatever bad energy had infected his wand. He gave a nod over to Cyrus, "Unlucky, but we're fine." The protego really had thrown a wrench in their plans, but they were both still standing and just fine compared to the other worn team.

Cyrus had not anticipated the Protego. He had imagined sparkles and loud bangs from the beauty of the cracker jinxes, but he frowned slightly when Milosh threw up a shield. It was a good shield. But for the boy who valued creativity above many things, he couldn't help but be slightly disappointed. Shields were boring.

Especially since the cracker jinxes just dissipated. They couldn't have at least ricocheted like pinballs?

At least there was some crackering to be done. Hadashi was hit by crackers from Rett and Cyrus, but Cyrus frowned yet again when he saw Rett stumble backwards as a result of his own spell. 'Oh, that's... rude,' he commented almost halfheartedly.

Hadashi's spell spread was interesting. Cyrus hadn't known that it was possible to spread two spells at the same target. It made sense, kind of, like one spell would hit their head and the other their foot, maybe? But really difficult. He wasn't surprised that one of the spells did not hit Rett, but he was disappointed that the other did. That jig looked exhausting. Hopefully, it didn't last long.

The previous round had seem to go a bit better in their favor. Still getting hit was a spell was never good, but at least they weren't the only ones feeling pain this time around. A well-cast Protego seemed to be Milosh' saving grace, allowing him to wince and then exhale, collecting himself as he peered through the glinting shield. What to do next. He'd glance at Hadashi. A small frown splayed on his features, they both were nearing their ends in terms of the amount of hits they could take. Shall they go out with a bang or accept defeat and hold their heads high?

"Yeah I can take it. Don't worry about it." A flaming redhead of an Irish girl covered in what was likely head to toe in thousands of small pinpricking freckles sourly took control of the match as the previous moderator stepped aside. "S'not like I wanted to... you know... relax or something." The mutter was mostly under her breath but was distinctively tinged with a scoff of obvious distaste that was not hidden even in the slightest. "Get it over with, I guess."

She would step up to oversee the unfolding of the next maneuvers just as Everett's Irish jig would gradually come to a conclusion even as he seemed to make efforts towards turning the actions of dance into the actions of evasion and elusion. Fortunately for him, those efforts would be in vain--in a good way, as the opposing team seemed to be inconclusive as to how they wanted to approach the fight that was quite clearly not in their favor.

Unfortunately for Hadashi and Milosh, hesitation was all that it would take, as Cyrus took the opportunity to whip up a hastily cast spell that almost didn't succeed in its ambitions and sent it flying for the opposing side. The first gust would splinter and whip against Milosh, leaving him just barely clinging to his wits and consciousness, and its fraternal spell spread twin would be dodged by Hadashi. However, the identical twin of Milosh's antagonistic gust would batter the Mahoutokoro senior instead, bludgering him and cuffing him on and screaming in both of his ears like a scolding mother.

Team one had just cracked open the defenses even more... and with not much more time on the clock, it really did make one wonder how--if at all--it was possible for the second international team to pull a victory out of their hats.

"Coom on nauh. Crack on and finish it off, hey?" She would cross her arms, sulking with furrowed brows.

Cyrus's gaze was momentarily drawn away from the piste as a newcomer took the moderator's place. He blinked, furrowed his brow, stared – and he quickly looked away, slightly disappointed. She had looked so familiar, very much like someone he once knew, but once she spoke in a very Not English accent, he let out a small sigh, trying to appear mostly neutral.

It was duelling, though. Despite this, he would remain upbeat. He loved a show, after all! And he was feeling great!

Hardly even thinking about it, he spun around on the piste, his dogwood wand whistling with the movement. It was likely not his best work, that much likely being due to his general lack of thinking and focus on showmanship, but it was fun, and that was what really mattered. Wasn't the whole point of duelling, or sports, to have fun, anyway?

Cyrus had never been the most ambitious, but at least now, he could claim that his ambition was to succeed in having some wonderful fun.

The ventuses did not quite go as planned. The first one, with a mind of its own, split and hit both of Cyrus's original targets, while the other one flew wide. Well, that was life, sometimes. When life gave you lemons, you just had to make lemonade! And, well, that lemonade was the sweet feeling of having fun.

Cyrus glanced at Everett, pleased to see that his jig had ended. 'That looked really uncomfy,' he noted, a paragon captain of obvious.

Finally- his legs came to a stop from his impromptu Irish dancing and jeez were they sore. Still, they were staring down the barrel of the duel and he wasn't taking any chances. Except- it didn't really matter because as he hunkered down and prepared to dodge... no spells came from the other side.

What he did see however, was a beautiful spin and flourish spell as Cyrus sent off a practically perfect ventus. "Nice casting there, it was incredibly uncomfortable. But let's finish this with a bang now." Re-centered, pretending like his calves weren't killing him. They were so close to winning this.

If Milosh thought he had hit a low, he had no idea what was coming for him. The slight crane of his neck and flutter shut of his lashes as he pondered what to do next was all it took for him to get thrown off his game. The duel allowed now time to breathe, hesitate, or let your mind go blank. The blast he endured from the Ventus had also seemed to effect his counterpart as they both got thrown off kilter. At this point his chest was heaving, nerves tingling from spell after spell his body experienced. The cherry on top? The commentator. Even the person who moderated their duel had to switch out for whatever reason and this new judge had quite the mouth on them. Yeah yeah, he wasn't all to happy with their performance either, but the morals couldn't be brought any lower.

Rolling his shoulders, and adjusting his gaze up, he'd fight off the black dots at the corner of his vision. How many rounds had it been? How many spells had he casted versus being hit with? The other team looked like shiny new trophies compared to their worn, half-broken selves. He'd commend them that they were troopers, but perhaps they just got lucky. He'd keep telling himself that. Denial was a sweet thing. Adjusting the grip on his wand, he was ready for one last round.
