“Of course, I have a plan.”, Holly whispered, “Now Listen: We don't exactly know where the flag is. So, we split up.”, she explained, “When one of us sees that the other is in danger, we throw a stick or a stone in another direction so that the sound distracts the adult.”, she made a little throwing motion to demonstrate, “And if one of us finds the flag, we'll imitate an owl. Can you do that?”
With the parents
William looked at Steven, “Oh, believe me, that girl has to be here somewhere!”, he said, “The little girl can hide pretty well if she wants to.” Either that or he became paranoid or lost his mind. “Trust me, when I tell you to be careful now.” and added, “Just don't let it drive you crazy. That girl is a pro in that.” And a real true member of the Adam family, with that level of devilish ideas she can have, but he better not say that out loud. Sure, she is not as extreme as her brother, but you can take a guess who teached her.
With the Kids
Charlotte quickly caught up, while Alfred slowed down. The sprinting had taken a lot of energy from him. Still, he tried to keep Jane on her toes until she, too, ran out of energy. Charlotte, on the other hand, ran after Julian as if it was nothing. But for that, she had lost sight of Cynthia. She also doesn’t know where the rest of the children are.
But. Well. That a problem for future Charlotte.

“Hope your plan works!” Abbey said her face facing her dad and William. “I can go right and you left.” she suggested and then slowly and quietly moved from the bush they were hiding behind to another one on her right.
With the Parents
William had now walked over to Steven and where the flag was hidden. If he was right and Holly already was here, then it was probably a good thing. Steven knew that Holly and Abbey most likely had become a duo in their team, so he was prepared for both of them to show up. He stood with his back facing William’s so that they could see from every direction.
Steven turned to look at William when he was speaking to him. He listened, but was more focused on protecting the flag and looking around for the kids. “If Holly’s here then so is Abbey!”
With the kids
Jane slowed down and slowly gave up trying to catch Alfred. She walked over to their base and then sat down on a rock. Her plan now was to run after them again if they tried getting into the parents base. Julian was still running as fast as before. He wasn’t tired and he knew he could continue running for a while more. He was just running to make sure Charlotte would focus on chasing him then on trying to find their flag.
While all of this was happening nearby the open field, Cynthia ran over to her younger siblings. They had been standing with the flag protecting it so that none of the parents could get to it. “Everything alright?” she asked Oscar when she finally reached where they were standing. He was the one that was kinda the leader of the youngest children “group”. “Both we and the flag are fine!” He smiled proudly. “Okey, good. I’ll go help Julian and Alfred again then.” She said and ran back to the open field. She was everywhere and didn’t have a plan herself. One second she was at the open field with Julian and Alfred another protecting the flag with her younger siblings. Her job was just to make sure everyone knew what to do and that there were no places there were too many or too few people. Cynthia and most of her other family members took this game really seriously and Cynthia really wanted to win!

In the base of their parents
Holly nods and goes to the left, while Abbey goes right. Quietly and carefully she sneaks around in search of the flag and always well hidden so nobody sees her.
Whenever there was a suspicion about Abbey's whereabouts, which the two adults wanted to check, Holly would throw something into another bush, so the two men were lured away, and her friend was safe.
She needed a lot of self-control not to laugh, because seriously it was funny watching her father and Steven being misled and losing their minds about it.
With some patience, she was able to get to the medium-sized rock. There was a small earth mound. That was Weird.
With the parents
William is losing his mind, “Where the bloody hell are they?!”, he shouts. Because every time he heard a noise and wanted to see what it was. It was nothing at all.
(What he didn’t know was that the noise he heard was a distraction. Either triggered by Abbey or Holly by a thrown stick or stone.)
With the kids
Charlotte noticed that Jane had given up. So, what did she do? She changed her plan of course. And when Alfred saw her face change, he didn’t say ‘oh boy’ he said: “Oh Mommy” Because that was exactly what he meant when he said, to be careful if you are against his mother.
She accelerated and upped the pace to sprint level. She caught up to Julian in a heartbeat and caught him. She turned around and caught the exhausted Alfred in no time. Those poor boys had no chance anymore.
But now, Cynthia was on her radar now. Alfred yelled: “Cynthia, climb a tree!”
That would be her last chance to safe herself, and while his mother could run, God knows how, with her dress, she could never climb with it.

Wait. Can it be?
She dug a bit and… She found the flag. She found the bloody red flag!
And already a devilish idea came into her head and an evil grin on her face. She had to thank her brother later for that.
She took a stick and wrapped a piece of paper around it, with the note, I quote:

Then, she buried it again, as if she had never dug it up and found it. Now she put the flag up her sleeve and snuck away. In a slightly more distant bush, she made an owl noise and returned to the first bush she told Abbey her plan. So, they can go back together.
With the Parents (Again)
“Did you hear that?”, asked Liam, “That Sounds like a young long-eared owl.”, he said and added, “Sounds beautiful.”

In the base of their parents
Abbey was almost seen by either her dad or William way too many times. Lucky for her, Holly managed to save her every one of them. She held her breath and sat as still as possible every time they were getting close to the bush, tree or stone she was hiding behind. It was funny to her too watching her father and William being tricked that easily.
With the parents
Steven felt like he was losing his mind too. Sounds coming from every, but no one around! He looked behind random bushes and trees, but not the right ones because he didn’t spot either Holly or Abbey. “I knew that girl was good at hiding and sneaking around, but this good? No way!” Steven loudly said talking about Abbey.
With the kids
“Nooooo!” Julian yelled dramatically when Charlotte managed to catch him. He walked disappointed and angrily over to the parent base and stood there with Alfred. He stood there waiting for someone to free him. The only one he expected to manage to get them free was Cynthia.
Cynthia had just come back to the open field and was confused. Why would she climb a tree? She walked a bit closer before she spotted Charlotte running towards her. She had also noticed both Alfred and Julian trapped in the parent’s base. Cynthia didn’t answer Alfred and she instead just began running the way she had came. Her plan was too run close enough too her other siblings for them to hear her scream that they needed to help free Alfred and Julian while she was running away from Charlotte.
In the base of their parents (Again)
Abbey had noticed Holly stopping to do something behind the middle sized rock she was behind, but she wasn’t sure what. She forgot that the flag could be buried and just assumed Holly was tying her shoe laces or something. While Holly was burring the paper flag both Steven and William began walking closer to the rock. This time it was Abbey’s turn to throw something in the other direction to distract them, and luckily for both of them she did it with no problem. Her dad and William was for some reason really easy to trick.
Abbey heard the owl noise and turned to where it came from. Holly had moved from the rock over to the bush while Abbey was confusing William and her dad even more. When she heard the owl noise she quickly understood what Holly had been doing behind the rock, that she had found the flag and that they were about to win the whole game! The owl noise came from the bush they had began from. Abbey sneaked her way back, again quietly and slowly. When she successfully had made it to the same bush as Holly she raised her hand for a high five. “We did it!” She Whispered with excitement.
With the parents (Again)
Steven tried to listen, but couldn’t hear any owl noises. “Are you sure?” Steven asked trying to be polite. He thought Liam was going insane for a moment. Owl noises here and now? Was that even possible, he thought. “I didn’t hear it.” Steven tried listening again for the second time, but still couldn’t hear it. The owl noise was only one time, but they didn’t know that. They didn’t seem to have any ideas that the owl was in fact not an owl but Holly.

Holly and Abbey were still hiding behind the big bush. Abbey had noticed her dad’s confusion to the owl noise Holly had made and she was holding in a loud laughter. Steven and William were standing far away from the bush and it was now it was time for the two girls to get out of the base and win the game. To Abbey it seemed like it was only too ways to do it. One: Run for it. Two: sneak out of the base. “Should we run for it? Just run straight over to our side?” Abbey suggested. It would be the coolest thing to do, but they couldn’t be sure where Jane and Charlotte were, so it could be risky.

Holly whispered back, “I'm sorry but I'm not a racer. I am way to slow...”, but… wait.
"There are Alfred and Julian.", She pointed her finger in their direction. Great. Now she has a plan.
She took out a red handkerchief and tied it around a stick. Well, it works as a deception, as long as you don’t look too closely. She handed the fake flag to Abbey.
“This is going to be fun,” she said with an evil grin on her face, “The pan is: You and the boys distract the adults on the open field with this fake flag. So, I can safely sneak back.”, but she also added, “When I am in front of our base, I make another owl noise so that we can cross the finish line together. Sound fair?”
With the adults
“Steven, I think I'm losing my mind.”, Liam said with his eye started twitching, “Can you take a look, if our flag is still there?”
With the kids
It didn’t take long for Charlotte to catch Cynthia before that poor girl could do anything. “Now, where is the flag?”, she asked this question more to herself than to Cynthia. She looked around and began to search.
In the base of their parents (Again)
“Why didn’t Cynthia climb a tree?”, Alfred sighed, “I hope Holly has a plaaa-!”, “Shh!”, Holly interrupted him with one hand on his mouth. She’d sneaked up on him. “Listen: I've got the flag, Abbey's got the fake flag, you know the plan. I sneak. You run. Owl is the word.”, She freed Julian and set right off. Nowhere to be seen. He needed a second to catch himself and then said, like nothing weird just happened, “Okay, she’s got a plan. When you hear an owl sound run back to our base. But now: Let’s distract the adults once more!”

“What?”, was the last thing William said before hell literally broke loose.

Abbey looked in the direction of the open field where Holly was pointing and noticed Julian and Alfred. She didn’t understand how they could help them get the flag over, but nodded pretending she knew why Holly had pointed at them. “Mhm…” Abbey was looking at the boys when Holly gave her the fake flag. “Wha-“ She looked confused down at the flag she was now holding. After listening carefully to the plan she looked at Holly with a smile. “Okey” she simply answered and sat up a bit getting ready to run… or sneak, she wasn’t sure yet.
With the adults
“Yeah okey!” Steven pulled his hair a little and rubbed his eyes. He was tired and still felt like he was going insane of something. He walked slowly over to the middle sized rock and lifted it. A flag was there, but not the right one. He leaned closer to the ground and just looked down. He noticed something that looked like paper and started digging up the flag. “What the-“ He mumbled. “Um… Liam!” Steven started walking over to him now holding the paper flag.

Cynthia had not expected Charlotte to be that fast after she had been running after both Julian and Alfred for a while now! ”You don’t think I was running the same direction the flag is in, do you? That would be dumb of me.” Cynthia said before running away over to where Julian and Alfred were both standing. She hoped what she said would make Charlotte run the other way (the direction the flag wasn’t in.)

Jane was still sitting on the rock and it wasn’t too far away from where Alfred and Julian was talking to Holly. Holly was still hiding so if Jane would have tried to look for her she most likely wouldn’t see her anyway. She didn’t notice that Holly was there and freed them, but she noticed them running out of the parent’s base. “No cheating! You can’t just free yourself!” Jane yelled to them from the rock. She noticed that the two boys didn’t seem to care and she then stood up and began trying to catch them again. She wasn’t as fast as in the start of the game, but she had been gaining some energy from her little break.
While she was running after both the boys Cynthia came running with her hand up in the air signing that she was caught by Charlotte. “Sorry I didn’t listen, but I promise I had a plan!” She said when she ran past Alfred.

On the Open field
Alfred had regained his power, thanks to the short break, and was able to run again. He worked with Julian and Abbey to burn off all poor Jane’s energy.
When he met Cynthia, he just yelled: “Don’t worry we got-”, “THEY GOT THE FLAG!!!”, that was his father. Oh boy.
William stood on the imaginary line to the open field and pointed at them. He wasn't a runner but he at least tried to help catch them. Because now it was about winning or losing.
With the Kids
Charlotte wasn't born yesterday and thanks to her son she knew that trick. She continued to jog in the direction. (Where the flag was.)
But then she heard her husband.
She looked back and with a bit of back and forth, she decided to help to stop the children from winning. So, she ran back.
On the Open field (Again)
When Charlotte got there, her eyes were on the children, and she tried to help Jane catch them again. But believe it or not, now it was slowly gnawing at her energy. She was running the whole game through and could still run, but couldn’t sprint for so long anymore.
Meanwhile, Holly snuck back with ease to the base without any issue. Made sure her Mother didn't see her. And right there, practically just two more steps to get to her base, she made the signal:

Alfred had regained his power, thanks to the short break, and was able to run again. He worked with Julian and Abbey to burn off all poor Jane’s energy.
When he met Cynthia, he just yelled: “Don’t worry we got-”, “THEY GOT THE FLAG!!!”, that was his father. Oh boy.
William stood on the imaginary line to the open field and pointed at them. He wasn't a runner but he at least tried to help catch them. Because now it was about winning or losing.
With the Kids
Charlotte wasn't born yesterday and thanks to her son she knew that trick. She continued to jog in the direction. (Where the flag was.)
But then she heard her husband.
She looked back and with a bit of back and forth, she decided to help to stop the children from winning. So, she ran back.
On the Open field (Again)
When Charlotte got there, her eyes were on the children, and she tried to help Jane catch them again. But believe it or not, now it was slowly gnawing at her energy. She was running the whole game through and could still run, but couldn’t sprint for so long anymore.
Meanwhile, Holly snuck back with ease to the base without any issue. Made sure her Mother didn't see her. And right there, practically just two more steps to get to her base, she made the signal:

Smiling is an easy job to do. Especially if you have nothing better to do. (Or you did something you shouldn't have done.)

On the open field
Cynthia had made it to the place the kids had to be standing if they were caught. She turned quickly to look at William when he yelled. “UGH… not now!” she mumbled underneath her breath both upset and annoyed at the same time. She knew she couldn’t help trying to stop him since she had been tagged by Charlotte and wasn’t allowed to move out of the zone she was standing in.
Before she knew it Julian managed to run up to her and free her. Both him and Alfred had managed too make Jane tired again.
With the kids
All of the youngest Thompson children heard William’s yell and knew it was now time to do something other than just protecting their own flag. Oscar grabbed Olive’s hand and motioned to the other to follow him. George and Emmet followed right behind with smiles on their faces.
On the open field (Again)
Jane now out of energy was walking after the kids while Charlotte joined in still running. Cynthia was also being chased, but it was no problem for her to run and not be caught. Probably because she hadn’t been running a lot throughout the game.
It was Abbey William had yelled at. Little did he know she didn’t have the flag, but a fake one. Abbey began running around on the open field just like the rest of her siblings. She had no other plan other than not being caught. Julian, Cynthia, Alfred and now Abbey were all running around on the open field being chased by Jane and Charlotte, just like little chickens.

On the open field (Again x2)
The four kids all quickly turned to look at Holly. Julian turned to look at Alfred with a smile right after. We did it! The kids had won! There were no way their old parents could stop them now! That’s what all of them thought as they began running toward Holly holding the real red flag.
The four other kids had just mad it out of the little forest in the kids base, they stood on the edge of the imaginary line and smiled and cheered at their older siblings and Alfred running over to them and Holly!

Cynthia had made it to the place the kids had to be standing if they were caught. On the Open Field
“I BLOODY KNEW IT!”, yelled William as he realized what happened. His sweet daughter had tricked him. Again…
Charlotte was stunned, flabbergasted, and dumbfounded, but she caught herself. She ran towards her daughter…
Alfred ran with his friends back to their base. To Holly who beamed out of happiness, but as soon as the kids made it to her, suddenly her face turned into shock, she grabbed Abbey by the hand and made a big jump into the base, right before her mother could catch her or Abbey. It happened so fast that you practically only heard Holly say: “BLOODY HELL!”.
… How did Charlotte make this distance in that short time no one will ever know, but that woman is now totally out of breath. Alfred touched her shoulder with an evil grin, “Got you!”, he always wanted to say that. He ignored his mother's evil eye. Holly came down from her shock.
Anyhow, because of that jump, they have won. The Kids have won the game.
Alfred gave his sister a high five, “You did great Pipsqueak!”, “Whatever you say No-Brain.”, Holly replied. No worries that was no argument or fight. Just a little teasing between siblings. Especially those siblings.
“I almost had her.”, Charlotte gasped and was on her knees. She was completely kaput and exhausted. “Can someone please get me something to drink?”
“That was close, mum! You almost got me.”, said Holly and turned her head to Abbey, “Sorry, did I hurt you, when I grabbed you? Did I claw you?”

On the open field
Steven ran from the parents base down to the open field where Jane was now sitting on the grass exhausted. He ran up to her and sat down on the grass next to her. “You did good! I’m sorry me and Liam didn’t notice Holly sneaking up and grabbing the flag.” he felt a little guilty knowing Jane really cared about winning. He knew she wasn’t mad or sad about losing, and that was right, but he still felt guilty and bad for not paying more attention. “I’m so tired!” Jane said and stood up slowly. She smiled at Steven and he stood up right after. “I will go grab something to drink.” He watched his kids celebrate their win as he walked over to the park table where all their foods and drinks were.
Emmet and George gave each other a high five just like Holly and Alfred did. Oscar celebrated with his younger sister and made sure she knew they had won. She was smiling and giggling and Oscar was smiling happy she had a good time. Cynthia stood with them also smiling happily.
Steven was on his way back from the table when he heard Charlotte asking someone to go grab something to drink for her. He walked up to her and the kids with two bottles of water in his hands. One for him and one for Jane. “Here take mine.” He threw the bottle gently on the grass next to where Charlotte was sitting. He then walked closer to Julian and Abbey. “Congrats kids!” He smiled and ruffled Julian’s hair. “Thanks dad. Holly totally tricked you and William!” Abbey laughed and reached her hand out to high five Holly.
Steven walked back to Jane with her water and they stood there looking at the kids still celebrating. “They honestly did surprisingly good. Don’t you think?” Jane looked up at Steven asking. She hadn’t expected them to work out a whole master plan to win. And she had at least not expected it to be a good plan that would work out so well. “Yeah they did amazing!”
“It didn’t hurt, don’t worry.” Abbey smiled. “It was a bit shocking seeing you so… so… scared though” Abbey wasn’t sure what Holly felt in the moment Charlotte had suddenly appeared out of nowhere, but it was funny to her how shocked she sounded when she screamed “Bloody hell” into Abbey’s ear. “Where you scared or just surprised?” Abbey laughed a little asking the question.
