Pool Party

The two girls at the volleyball court were having quite a competitive game. She was impressed at their abilities, and even more so at the redhead, Ami, who was holding her own against the brunette who had the gifted ability to launch the ball more forcefully through her water gun ability. Adelaide, somewhat embarrassed, had not realized Kalani was deaf until she began watching the two girls communicate. The Professor had jumped so quickly at Kalani's offer to play that she hadn't even realized the impediment. Though it did make Adelaide even more impressed at Ami and Kalani's partnership in the game.
She wondered how Kalani functioned learning spells? It was possible to cast without saying the incantation, but non spoken casts were rather high level, and the caster still needed to know the incantation to speak it within their mind. Her mind wandered as she thought of how this girl would excel in her Runes class third year. Learning Runes would greatly improve the girls casting abilities. She would have to make a note to speak to the girl about her class later on in the year.
Not long after a young boy seemingly joined in on the volleyball game, Adelaide was ready to serve up her first round of burgers and hot dogs. She had quickly finished her own raw burger, so that a wandering child would not stumble across the spectacle. Then, while plating the meats, along with a few veggie burgers in case any of the children were vegans or vegetarians as many seemed to be now a days, she called out, using an amplifying charm so she could reach even those far out in the waters.
"Food is served! Limited amount, more will come in a few minutes!" She called, and waited on the children to arrive so she could serve them. Beside her on a long wooden picnic table sat all the condiments and supplies one would need to make the perfect meal, from mustard and ketchup, to even vegemite which even Adelaide did not understand the appeal of.

Evelyn grinned from ear to ear as she came across an orb, nestled into the lake bed. It hadn't taken her terribly long to find it, all things considered. It glowed all sorts of colours, and it didn't take long for the young Gryffindor's curious impulses to take over, plucking the orb from the sand. How cool was it that the rumours were actually true!?
But Evie's celebration was somewhat short lived. One moment she was hovering under the water just above the lake bed, and the next... well she wasn't even sure how to describe it. She grabbed the orb and well, something happened. She wasn't sure what, everything just felt very different all of the sudden. She'd never felt anything quite like... whatever that was. It must have been the orb. Instinctively, she tried to squeeze the orb in her hand, but found that she couldn't, and that the orb had fallen back to the ground.
That's rather odd, Evie thought to herself. She moved to reach out to grab it once more but found that she also couldn't do that. Stubbornly she tried again, immediately straining herself before trying to get a better look at herself. Clearly, her arms weren't there. That was concerning, to put it very mildly. She used those to cast spells! But she could feel something. Something fluttering. Finding that she had sunk to the floor, and was standing, a few other things became alarmingly clear to the young witch.
First, everything suddenly seemed much bigger than they had before she touched that orb, the orb being no exception. Secondly, she hadn't had to come up for air yet. In fact, she didn't feel the need to take a breath at all. Outstretching her leg, she finally realized that her body was very much not how she had remembered it. Thrashing back in surprise, she quickly composed herself and tried to get a better look at herself. Too bad for her she didn't have a mirror, and her head didn't seem to turn anymore, but she could figure it out after a bit.
Please tell me this is a joke. I mean... really!? She said internally.
Evie wasn't as up to date on her magical creatures as the rest of her studies, but she still felt like she knew a bit. She was pretty sure she was a plimpy. Or at least some other fish with incredibly long legs. That would probably be why she'd had no clue what happened earlier. Evie had never been transfigured before, and she wasn't sure how she felt about it. On one hand, the girl had a curiosity to satiate. A part of her was actually enjoying this experience because it was so new and interesting. If she knew that it wouldn't last long she'd be enjoying it even more. The other part of her was more frazzled than anything. Evie wasn't aware of the time limit of the spell, she just heard about the orbs through rumours. She was a tad concerned about being stuck as a plimpy at the moment.
A plimpy!? Was it that orb? I bet it was the orb. Why do orbs turn people into plimpies!?
She huffed. Or... tried to huff. However plimpies huff. Maybe that was waving her flippers around in frustration, because that seemed valid too. Well, students were swimming. Maybe she could get a little help. She knew if someone saw a plimpy they generally ignore them, but making an effort was better than nothing.
Spotting a couple of students, she found her destination. One was in the water, the other was above it. Wait, above it?
Questions for another day, Evelyn, she told herself.
Jumping off the lake bed, she used her long legs to push off the ground and start swimming over. She couldn't get over how slow she was moving. She guessed it was kind of nice. She didn't have to worry about breathing, so she could enjoy herself. She did have to admit, seeing underwater so clearly and not having to worry about her breath was actually pretty cool. So this wasn't all bad. Still, she still preferred being a witch in the long run if she were to pick one over the other.
Reaching the two a few minutes after her transformation, Evelyn nudged the girl in the water. She couldn't really reach the boy if he was above the surface. Not wanting it to seem like coincidence, the young Gryffindor did it again, flailing her fins wildly. She could only imagine how ridiculous she looked right now.

If she'd been looking, Kalani would have seen the frustration and stress on Ami's face. She probably would have been smug about it, too. But Ami herself was putting up such a huge fight that Kalani hadn't expected either. She wondered for a moment if Ami was from somewhere sunny and beachy, somewhere where girls in bikinis went out every day to play volleyball and water polo. Surely someone wouldn't get this good without a lot of practice? Kalani should have won by now!
She spotted, out the corner of her eye, someone approaching the pitch. She guessed they were just coming to spectate, so she didn't pay them or their fiery head of hair much mind. She was more focused on returning Ami's shot, but it didn't take that focus. It was as if she felt the move before she saw she could do it. She sprinted to the base of the net, and as the ball reached it's highest point, she jumped up and struck the ball directly towards the ground. It was the best move of the game, in her humble opinion - apart from maybe that serve, which she'd still need to beat.
When she was satisfied that she'd hit as she wanted to, she looked back towards Ami and the mystery ginger. She could tell that Ami had already said something, but she only caught the last sentence: "Join in if you'd like!"
Kalani grinned, and she pointed to Quinn then to Ami's side. "She needs the help!" she signed, snickering to herself. She sort of felt like she was setting herself up for a loss - two vs one wasn't quite fair - but she'd won unfair games before. Like the time she's beat a deaf boy at basketball at her old camp, even though she had a broken leg.

Quinn nodded after hearing Ami's response, and was about to step onto the court. He stopped himself however, because he could not decide who he would want to join at first. However barely half a minute later, and that decision to be made for him. By the girl on the other side of the court opposite of Ami. Color him surprised when he saw her using something he recognized as sign. Now he wasn't adept at it, but he did have a friend who was deaf and had taught him some rudimentary sign. From what he could vaguely make out, it appeared as though she was telling him that presumably, Ami 'needed the help!' She seemed quite excited about that statement too if he was right, which it appeared he was.Interacting with Ami Procoppio and Kalani Anderson
Quinn not one to dawdle for long ran over to Ami's side having finally noticed the ball hurdling toward's the sand. He was still too far from it's point of presumed impact to intercept, but this was Quinn of all people. He ran as fast as he could diving for it, but in the midst of his dive he miscalculatedmissing the interception point and eating sand face first.
It was quite impressive actually he kind of looked like a penguin that forgot it can't fly, as he came crashing down and his limbs went flying all over the place. Oh it hurt worse then that time he fell off the 7 meter tall slide near his park, because he thought it would be fun to climb it. Then again a person below him broke most of his fall...and the person unfortunately. That was besides the point though as the ball had hit the sand court near him.
With a loud groan the fiery red head got up rubbing his face and spitting out sand. For some reason laughter erupted from him, as he slowly stood up a tad wobbly. "Don't worry guys I meant to do that. All part of my master plan!" He tan his thin fingers through his hair, and right after he signed a "hello" to the girl on the other side of the court. He still remembered how to do that luckily, so it should have been fine.
"So what's the plan boss?" He chuckled still rubbing the dull pain on his face, that was still covered in sand.

Ami watched in complete and utter terror as Quinn dove for the ball and completely missed. No no no no no... oh, for the love of god, this child. She loved the kid, sure, but now she just lost the point. Fricking fracking frock. This sucked.
The call for food disrupted Ami's train of thought, however, and Ami walked over to the net to pick up the volleyball. "Professor Ayers said that the food is ready," she said, mostly for Kalani's benefit. There was no possible way that she had been able to read the Ancient Runes professor's lips from that far away, and she wouldn't have heard her. "Let's go and eat first." Yes, go and eat before returning to get absolutely demolished by Kalani McFreaking Anderson once more.
Ami turned to help Quinn up from the sand, because she refused to believe that chivalry was dead. Professor Lear would've been proud. "Come on. Up you go. Nice try with the volleyball, by the way." Awful try, actually, but she wasn't going to say that to his face. That was rude!
Waiting for Kalani to join them on their side of the net, Ami then turned to go to the food table, even though she knew there was a high chance that she wouldn't find anything to eat. This was more for her to catch a breath, take a breather, before getting creamed by Kalani once more.

Kalani could see that the ball wouldn't be hit over as soon as Quinn started moving. In fact, she'd started whooping before he'd even hit the ground. The cheers quickly turned into a loud wince, and she rushed up to the net to see if he was alright. She ducked underneath it, but by the time she was on the other side of the court Quinn had already recovered, staggering to his feet and practically scraping the sand off of his tongue. Kalani's concerned furrowed brow sloped down in relief, but all evidence that she had ever been worried dissolved within moments as she quickly doubled over laughing.
When she was starting to return to sanity, she looked up at Quinn. With her arm, she mimed him diving into the sand. She wiped her eyes, still giggling and tittering a little to herself. When she looked over at Ami, she could read her lips despite the sun. Food! She could always go for food. Maybe they'd have Hawaiian pizza! She hadn't realised pineapple could go on pizza before coming to Britain - and she never realised that Hawaiian folk were the ones that did it! Really, she was honoured.
Before heading to the barbecue table, she held up a hand to Quinn for a high five. Whether she got it or not, she'd then turn to Ami, jogging up beside her. But something slipped her mind.
This time, as she lifted her hand up close to Ami's face for a high five, she felt the tingle. But she felt it far too late, as water exploded from the palm of her hand, directly into Ami's face.
She realised her mistake, gasping, pulling her hand to her side, and taking a few skipped steps back. She'd totally forgotten about that! After a few seconds of awkward silence, where Kalani couldn't decide if she wanted to laugh or cry, she gently reached out a hand, as if she was an all-American girl finding a wild horse out on the range and she didn't want to scare him off. "Sorry..." she signed slowly, careful where she pointed her palms, "are you...okay?
