It was Friday, June 28th, 2023.

The time was sometime late in the afternoon and Kim didn't really feel much like going to this errand.

It wasn't because of the subject material, nor was it because there most likely would be a lot of people there. Kim's hesitance to going was mainly due to a specific reason and that was regarding his beloved puffball. Over the past month, Puffie had not been doing too well healthwise. He'd been concerned about him for awhile now. Ever since the pink puffball had stopped being so energetic and talkative to him at the start of the month, Kim had begun to worry about him. After all, the teen knew Puffie was quite old for a pygmy puff.

The shopkeeper himself had warned him that pygmy puffs only tended to have a lifespan of around 10 years or so. Come July 1st, he'd be 10 years old and Kim was getting worried about him. Over the past month, he'd done everything he could to ensure Puffie was overly spoiled, not that he'd held out before. Seriously, Puffie was one of the most spoiled pygmy puffs ever. But Kim had gone out and gotten a ton of things for him recently, to make sure he was happy + satisfied. Most of the time, he'd always go to any errand taking place...

Puffie would always go with him.

But Kim wasn't sure if Puffie had the strength to do so this time, which made him tear up inside.

"Maybe we should just stay inside this time, Puffie." He murmured to the pink puffball, picking him up and putting him onto his lap as he stroked his fur. Puffie looked up at him and emitted a soft squeak, trying to nuzzle him a little. Its tired eyes gazed up at him and a look of adoration could be seen within its eyes. Kim leaned down and nuzzled Puffie, the two sharing a sweet moment together. Puffie tried to squeak again and Kim regarded him for a second. "Okay, let's do one more errand together." It would be fun.

"We can make some more memories together." Puffie squeaked out his happiness at this and Kim gently placed him on top of his left shoulder. It was Puffie's favorite spot. Knowing this errand had to do with cleaning things up, Kim didn't take his satchel this time. It would just get in the way and be a nuisance to him, so leaving it behind was the best choice. Upon reaching the Great Lake, Monica and Simon told them what to do. Kim let his eyes flicker around the area. "Shoreline or main area, Puffie?" He asked his pet.

Puffie's eyes darted around and settled on the shoreline.

He squeaked and Kim smiled up at him. "Shoreline it is." Kim nodded to Monica and Simon.

After all, he knew both of them. But right now didn't feel much like talking to anyone. He was too worried about Puffie right now. If given a choice he would have stayed at the dorm and looked after him. But the puffball had seemed to want him to go to the errand and so he'd done so. A sigh escaped his lips as he picked up a bin and made his way down to the shoreline. Searching for an unoccupied area, Kim spotted just such a place. It was all the way down the shoreline, near the end. No one had gone there yet, preferring closer areas.

Setting the bin down near the shoreline, Kim got out his wand and pointed it at some trash he saw. "Wingardium Leviosa!" He incanted and the trash levitated and floated over to the bin, Kim cancelling the spell as soon as the items were over the bin. Continuing to do this, eventually all the nearby trash was taken care of and deposited into the bin. Gathering stray leaves and twigs, he placed them into a neat pile next to the bin and leaned down to tie a piece of string around the twigs. They would be of some use later on.

The leaves, not so much.

Once more making use of the previous spell, Kim managed to put all the leaves into the bin too.

Glancing around again, Kim saw that a great deal of students had made their way here to participate in this errand and he probably wasn't needed. He overheard people talking about the bonfire taking place sometime soon. If Bailey had been around, she probably would have tried to drag him there. But she wasn't and so he could probably skip the event and spend his time with Puffie instead. After all, Puffie was more important than anything and anyone else to him right now. If he didn't get better soon, Kim would take him to the vet...

Bringing the bin back to the main area, Kim settled it down next to the other filled bins and inclined his head towards Monica and Simon, or whoever was there at the time. "Hope it helped! Zaijian!" He said, combining English and Chinese. Puffie squeaked out a farewell too and nuzzled Kim's neck affectionately. It seemed as if he'd gotten pooped out by this and his eyes closed as he snuggled closer to him on his shoulder. Kim headed off with Puffie, deciding to retire to his dorm and take care of the pink puffball's health/safety...

Tes hadn't hesitated for a second to sign up to clean up the grounds before leaving Hogwarts for the summer. She might as well, considering how much time she'd spent running around and playing and having picnics and practicing quidditch with friends! It felt like she spent almost as much time outside as she did inside since she'd been here, even in the winter months when she'd bundled up from head to toe in layer upon layer of fluffy clothing.

This led to her showing up right as the clean-up was scheduled to begin, favorite sunflower tank top and short overalls on, as well as her yellow work boots and gloves. She bounced eagerly on her toes as yard tools were brought out and instructions were given, eagerly awaiting the chance to work with her hands. Far too often in Hogwarts she was stuck reading books and sitting in a chair waving her wand around, so even as other students took out their wands to do the arguably smarter thing and clean up that way, she grabbed a bin, put her gloves on, and skipped off down to the lakeside.

On her way, she caught sight of familiar curly hair and green eyes, and stretched her arm up to wave in passing, calling out, "Mahlioz! Hi! It's so good to see you out here! Maybe we'll see each other at the bonfire after!" With a final wave, she made her way down to the edge of the lake, setting down her bin and getting to work. Sticks, trash, and clumps of goopy dead plants washed up on the shore were tossed in the bin. She threw some rocks dinner plate sized or larger back into the lake, wishing that her gloves weren't so wet or muck covered, since her lack of wand usage meant that the rocks she picked up were limited in size and distance thrown.

She hoped that another student would be handling some of the larger, more ungainly rocks, but once she acknowledged her limits, she basked in the relaxing feeling of worked muscles. She was relieved they started cleaning later in the day, considering even as the temperature was gradually cooling she was still sweating with exertion, sweat dripping off her nose whenever she bent to pick something up. She took a break to peel off her gloves and splash her hands in the water, picking a clearer patch of water. She scooped some water out to run through her hair and splash on her reddened cheeks before dunking her bandana in the water next. Ringing it out, she used it to tie back her hair like a headband once again.

Refreshed and cooled, she went back to work, filling her bin with sticks and waste and swapping it out several times before the call to stop was made. She grinned, satisfied with her hard work and the hard work of everyone else, seeking out Mahlioz and anyone else nearby for a celebratory high five once her gloves were removed. "That was fun! Great work!" she said to everyone within ear reach of her, stretching out her sore arms over her head and working her way over to the bonfire to celebrate.

Oh, to be outside! On a school day! It wasn't like Colin never got out: he got up really early every day to go running and take a dip in the lake before most anyone else was even awake. But today was a special outing, as a couple of Prefects had arranged for students to come out and help clean the lakeside before leaving for home. Not that Colin necessarily liked cleaning, but this did give him a chance to put off the impending depression of going back home where there would be no Liam. Colin couldn't believe it had been ten whole months since Liam was killed. He just hoped that the letter that Clair and AngelFyre helped him decypher --- the hit letter --- would help his parents find and hold his would-be killer. At least he'd be able to sleep without that to worry him.

He was therefore so happy to see AngelFyre jumping up and down with joy! Maybe she really loved to clean things!? Colin was feeling the heat of the day. It wasn't anywhere near this hot before sunrise when he was down here running across the grounds this morning! He unbuttoned his shirt, fanning himself with the front of it. Monica and Simon were droning on about how to sweep up leaves and rubbish. What was so hard about that? Colin laughed softly. At least AngelFyre was eager to listen to the Prefects! He himself would rather jump into piles of leaves than anything else.

And then there were the tools. Some of them looked vaguely familiar. Colin had seen them in the barns at home. Some he had even used! But now, he just shook his head. "Monica!" he said under his breath. "Ye're such a muggle!" This is what wands are for! Colin decided to see about picking up rubbish in stead of leaves. He grabbed a plastic bag --- ew! It felt nasty in his right hand! --- and went skipping along the grounds. Honestly it wasn't that bad. Wizarding kids rarely rarely littered, mostly because stuff in the wizarding world was packaged up in paper. It was the muggle kids who brought all the horrible plastic wrappings to Hoggys. They never disintegrated.

Whenever Colin came across a bit of rubbish, he'd stop and accost it for the monster it sure was: "Avast ye scrofulous beast! How dare you blight my castle grounds? Have at you!" And with a deft flick and swish --- "Wingardium leviosa!" --- Colin lifted the offending bits of plastic up and let them fall into the rubbish bag! Soon enough, Colin's shirt was off, tied around his waist and he was off yipping and skipping towards some new conquest against the evils of littering!

When his bag was about half full, Colin headed over to the place where a lot of kids liked to picnic. There, on a rock, he found a gold necklace. Or it looked like gold anyway! It had a cross on it and two golden earrings attached to it. Although it was in a hidden area, the gold sparkled in the sunlight. It was really pretty. Normally, stuff Colin found in the lake ended up in an old cigar box in his trunk. Mostly pretty crystals or hagstones along with some old bracelets and a parchment journal. But this necklace seemed different. It clearly wasn't lost decades or centuries ago. It looked like someone had just set it here or dropped it here recently. No more than a fortnight ago, for surely whoever owned it would have been back to look for it!

Colin wondered. He picked the thing up. The links and cross and earrings tinkled merrily. What if she forgot it was just here? What if she looked somewhere else, not realising it was here? Colin sniffed at the necklace. He couldn't detect anything, though the thing somehow seemed familiar. Somehow finders keepers oughtn't apply to something like this. It was too precious a thing. Not something ordinary that could be cast off without much thought. He slipped it into the pocket of his kilt. He'd find Monica or Miss Jensen later and give it to one of them. Maybe Miss Jensen knew a spell that could detect what his own nose couldn't?

After all that, Colin decided that it might be fun to take up Monica's suggestion of throwing rocks into the lake. Colin was not at all sure why she wanted rocks thrown into the lake, but, Colin smirked, then said: "Well, if my dear Prefect wants rocks yeeted into the lake, I shall happily oblige!" He tossed the sack of rubbish aside and seeing as no one else was around to help with rock yeeting, Colin started the project on his own. He found several likely candidates, rocks that were loose and could trip any uncareful person up! He picked up one in each hand, then waded out into the lake. The water was only up to his chest out here. Colin reckoned that would do nicely. First the left, then the right! "WOOHOO!! Two rocks yeeted into the lake!" There was nothing for it but to swim back to the shore and repeat the process several more times! He even levitated one rock out with him. That one was fun to sling out over the water! He really hoped the squid was right under there and would get bonked for all the trouble it caused him during Slytherin's last race!

But at last, the scent of a wood fire tickled his nostrils, and that meant it would soon be bonfire time! Colin swam back to the lakeside, got his rubbish bag and, soaking wet from being in the lake, headed up towards where the bonfire was being held. Once there, he fished the gold necklace out of his pocket and gave it to Monica, so that she could find out whose it is and give it back to the girl that lost it. He prayed that she would get it back soon.
