Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 10

All Aida could do was wait for the body-bind curse to lapse, helpless to stop the storm from coming back at them. Being confined was the feeling Aida hated most in the world, with their boggart literally being prison bars and shackles. It could have been that Evelynn knew this through legilimency, but if she hadn't, it would have been trivial for the witch to pick up on the wave of fear overtaking Aida now. If Evelynn's wampus hair wand picked it up, a vision might strike her of a pitch black horse bashing at the confines of an overly small stall, bleeding and whinnying like it was on death's doorstep.
Not knowing about Evelynn's wand, Aida had to forgive her for not knowing that detail in advance, but as the wix began to break free of the curse, a tremor overcame them. Speechless, Aida’s blueberry-grape eyes darted to Thomas in abject terror. All the fun of the moment vanished for the claustrophobe, and in the stands, Aida’s owl Scheherazade stopped playing with Figaro in order to look over with concern.

"To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy."~ Sun Tzu"Awwww! How can you hate being wet? It's so fuhn!" Piérre teased the outraged Ravenclaw boy. "Here, lemme show you! Aqua Eructo!"
A blast of pressurized water jetted into the smoke; whether it had hit or not the boy wasn't sure nor did he much care, but he had tried his best to make the most of the moment. That was really all that he could do as a duellist. All he could do was look towards the next best maneuver as he watched the storm blow back over to the opposing side thanks to a nice Ventus by Eevee.
"Chchchchchhh..." He hissed through his teeth as his green eyes flicked about the area to divine the next best opening. There had to be one; there always was.
Setting up his poise, he prepared for his next spell.Doing as Strategized

“HAHA- MISSED!!!” Thomas triumphantly announced his dodge through the smoke, and as it finally cleared the cheeky smile on his face would be visible for all to see. Gaze drifting away from his opponents if only for a moment, he caught Aida out of the corner of his eye and noted that they seemed to be out of the previous paralysis predicament. “Welcome b- huh?” What was meant to be something of a teasing remark seemed to get caught in his throat as his partner’s truly aghast facial expression registered in his tiny little brain. An expression somewhere between confusion and worry wiped away his grin, “Are you, uh, okay?”

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 10
Relief had followed the tell-tale thud of her target's fall to the floor. For a moment, at least, the lions would have at least a small amount of reprieve, able to focus on a single target in the thick fog rather than having to worry about dodging spells they could not see from two. That relief would be short-lived. The scream of a horse in panicked pain rang through her thoughts, bringing with it the distinct image of a dark steed thrashing at its stall.
Under normal circumstances, she might have found it odd, something to be explored, as to why this thought had suddenly sprung to mind. She didn't know the horse, nor had she been thinking of riding at any point before or during the duel. She might even have gone so far as to lend it caution, similarly vivid visions from over the summer lending to the wonder as to whether she had a greater affinity for the divine than she had thought. Had she the mind to do so, she would have waved it away for the time being, focused on their duel, and gone to seek out their divination professor at a later time.
But she was not of a mind. In that instance, fear gripped her. An unbridled, reaction-provoking panicked dread. "P-piérre!" Her shout cut through the fog as easily as her spells. It was as though something horrid this way came, and the first thing she thought to do was ensure the safety of her companion. Faltering backwards in her stance, she wheeled her gaze in search of him. She couldn't see him. All she could see was the dreaded fog, all of it made worse by the darkness and rain brought on by the thunderstorm overhead.
"Ventus!" Even in her cast, fear laced itself through her tone. It seemed to do the trick. The clouds blew off towards the birds, and the fog seemed to clear. Although the later may just have been its own dissipation finally. By the time the stage had cleared, so too had the sudden emotion. Evelynn was left positioned next to Piérre, a hand resting upon his shoulder for a reassurance she no longer felt she needed. Confusion coloured her expression, and she stood somewhat disoriented, flicking her gaze between her partner and the other team, eventually coming to rest on the white-haired witch as she rose.
If there was one thing that could be said about this match, it was that things had taken an unexpected turn.

It wasn't the look on Aida's face that Jake saw first...No, first he saw the look on Thomas's. The Ravenclaw boy had been shouting triumphantly at the water jet that had missed him in the now-faded smoke, and it was his grinning face that Jake first saw clearly as the visibility returned. It didn't take long for the smile to leave the Ravenclaw boy's face though, as he turned with surprise towards his own partner.
That's when Jake saw. Jake didn't know Aida, but he knew what fear looked like. And when he looked at Aida's face, now that the wix had gotten up from the body-bind curse, he saw the look in their eyes, even from across the platform. Jake's hand drifted nervously to his wand.
He had heard something in the smoke too - a Ventus cry that seemed more desperate than he'd heard before from the Gryffindor side - now Evelynn's face looked dazed, and nothing had even touched HER. It was like something had happened inside of the smoke that Jake hadn't been able to see... and when she attempted to cast, the wand would backfire, and she would be driven backwards by her own spell.
Jake's eyes peered around, towards the stands, towards the doors, a feeling of dread sinking into his heart. So much had happened at Hogwarts, and chatters of fear, anxious faces, usually it meant something was coming. It meant others knew something he didn't. And when people were afraid at Hogwarts you took it seriously....cause usually there was something to be afraid of.
When his eyes turned he almost missed the next spells, because even though the mood had changed the duel didn't stop. Thomas's distraction would cost him as Piérre's aqua jet would hit the Ravenclaw boy straight on, soaking his robes. And Thomas's returned fire sent a wind jinx heading at Piérre, and hitting right on target. Perhaps it was Evelynn and Aida distracting everybody on the platform, but nobody seemed quite so nimble this time as they had before.
Though something had happened to Aida, it didn't stop the wix from casting. Still... their wand perhaps reacted to their distress in ways they couldn't have expected. The Ventus jinx they meant to aim at Piérre rocketed off towards Thomas before sailing harmlessly overhead, and a flash of light that Jake couldn't identify rocketed off just narrowly missing Piérre (the phoenix feather wand sending a singing jinx).
Jake continued to look around, still desperately trying to see what had happened and what they had seen, but there was just nothing. No signs of danger...not that he could see. But then what? What was going on?
"I-is...is everyone okay...? Jake asked, still not knowing what was going on...just knowing that something had. He wondered if he needed to stop the duel.

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 10

The Gryffindor girl endured a panicked dread at much the same time as Aida, and Evelynn’s shout resonated back into the white wix’s head in turn. Had the prison walls captured her, too, squeezing in around them both? Almost always, Aida felt alone in the grip of this fear, but not now. Darting violet eyes caught Evelynn’s faltering stance, but Aida couldn’t understand. Am I cursing her, too? Is… is she a natural empath? Aida’s mouth dropped open with confusion mixed with trepidatious admiration. Who is she? boomed a voice in the wix’s mind. This was no time to ask the opponent to tea, however. Holding back now could only hurt Thomas, whom Aida had promised to do their best. The possibility of talking at length with the fascinating girl would have to wait until one of them had fallen first. The most Aida could do now was watch and try to understand.
Pale Aida spent the majority of their free hours practicing at the piste, so even through trying to shake off the abject terror off the claustrophobe’s body-binding, rote habit kept the wix moving through the duel. Recovering just well enough to attempt a wind jinx, Aida’s shaking hand threw the spell off-course-- directly at their duelling partner.
“Watch out! S-sorry!” stuttered the shaking white-haired Ravenclaw. Luckily Thomas dodged, sparing Aida the worst of the embarrassment.
As if to try to bolster and cheer its duellist up, Aida’s gnarled old wand attempted to throw a singing jinx at their opponent. It was how Aida tried to cheer up, by singing, and wouldn’t it be funny if the bard over there burst into song? Yet, this spell also failed to land even as Thomas got a spurt of water in his eyes as if hit by the squirting flower of a clown.
"I-is...is everyone okay...? asked Jake, but Aida did not know how to respond. Things were okay, weren’t they? Maybe they weren’t, the wix wondered. Maybe Aida's magic had begun to contaminate the Gryffindor girl with the terror, an unacceptable outcome no matter on which side of the piste she stood.

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 10
The sooner this match was over, the better. Uncertainty and fear only seemed to swell as even Morris caught wind of the shifts in behaviour and affect. Glances exchanged, though few words would be uttered. To his question, Evelynn had only offered a firm nod. One that provided more confidence than she felt in that moment. Still shaken, she moved to continue. Aida wouldn't be the only one to find her casting altered. A falter in her incantation would prove a fatal mistake, the spell backfiring to hit the ginger with force enough to expel all the air from her lungs in what might have passed for a breathless cough were it not obvious what had transpired.
As it was, Evelynn stumbled backwards, a red flush of embarrassment creeping up her neck and across her face. It wasn't often the witch blundered her spells. In fact, she couldn't recall the last time that she had. Shaken, she swallowed, and took solace in the fact that at least she and Piérre were both still standing. Taking a moment to calm herself, she took a steadying breath and put her head back into the match.

"To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy."~ Sun TzuWhoever said that Piérre was an honorable fighter was a bare-faced liar. The boy was a conniving opportunist. Less and less of a heroic trait... More of a malleable trait that bled between various methods of approaching a fight and usually favored the underhanded and tricky.
Such was the charm of putting on a good face and making the crowds consider you the fool. They would think it all a joke even as clever lips spoke veiled truths and subtly inculcated the mind with curious thoughts not previously acknowledged of imagined.
The fog cleared, and green eyes glittered at a golden opportunity presented before him as his target was focused on something else. "Aqua Eructo!" He hissed quietly as a blast of water left his yew wand again and slapped the previously taunting boy across the face. Piérre had caught him perfectly off guard. It had been a divine shot. Could not have been any better if he had tried.
Yet, for all his agility, that same boy's spell caught him while he was on the recoil of his cast, causing a gale force wind to whip up and batter him in a way that forced him to cover his face defensively and hindered his movements.
No. No that wouldn't do at all...
He grinned. "Hit me once, shame on me; hit me twice, and I'll burn youuuuuuu!" He sang warningly as he evaded the extra spell flew harmlessly past as the initial wind spell had angled towards the Ravenclaw boy as well. "I told you I'd made you wet!"
...
I refuse to take questions during this time, have a nice day.
Evelynn hadn't fared well, and the Britalian' s gaze turned to her instead.
Though Piérre himself was in a much worse state than she, he gave her a thumbs up. "Hey. You good? Don't get down on yourself. Stick with it. I know you've experienced worse cuz of a Bludger. This is practically a cakewalk."
A wink. "Chin up, shoulders back. You're a lion! Lemme hear you ROAR! I'M-A A-OKAY, MISTER DUEL REFEREEE!" Piérre swept a foot back despite the winds, shouting through the battering in his pointed ears and the repetitive striking of his earring against his temporal bone. Eyes narrowed so that his lashes protected his cornea, the boy wound up for his next spell.
