A Promise of Disaster
Alan gave the Ravenclaw's explanations a thoughtful nod, finding that his reasoning added up and there wasn't really much else to do in this situation. "Have you or your parents ever visited there since? Maybe to meet family?", he offered some thought to the conversation. Partially because he was quite curious and also because he was happy to found an well-mannered acquaintance by coincidence and possibly, hopefully soon to be friend. Alan could see the both of them getting along quite well despite perhaps some of their differences. He seemed smart and fun to be around for sure.
"German food? Yeah a lot of it can be quite good, but generally speaking I am not a very picky eater. I like comfort meals be it because they are simple or because they are special in a way, like traditional foods you know? I used to be far more of a picky eater as a kid but luckily I have grown out of that... would have become quite difficult at one point in life what with coming up with meals that would be healthy enough yet catering to all the picky eater habits?" he rambled on for a moment before giving a sheepish grin. "I really like candy though, especially chocolate.. I think I am kinda known for that too, as I always share it with my housemates and whatnot. For the longest time it was my ice breaker for conversations, just offering some chocolate frogs to other students and making connections!" He laughed at that, the memories being quite fond to him. He had made many acquaintances and friends that way, some of the friendships had lasted to his very day and some acquaintances had to be forged into friendships at a later time, such as Galton. Their first encounter had been a memorable one for sure! He listened on as Bubba talked about what kind of food he would have asked for as a birthday dinner and grinned. "The important question here is what kind of chocolate cake are we talking about? There are so many specifically known in Germany that I know of, or perhaps it was just because I had been especially curious about chocolate cakes in Germany that I found out about so many! Do you perhaps mean the Black Forest Cake? That one is pretty known and also pretty great! And sour beef? I am unsure if I had it before, but I like dumplings and there are many ways to eat those and of course spaetzle I guess. It is awesome how much you know about cuisine though!" And Alan meant it, he liked learning about things from people and conversations and simply making experiences, rather than reading up on things and so this was really fun to him to talk about. He also really liked learning about other people.
Alan for sure had met the right person for a lot of talking, Bubba seemed to know how to keep a conversation going and interesting at that. When Bubba asked him whether Alan had ever given detention for anything interest, he kinda gave a shrug. "I should probably give more detentions to be honest, but usually it has been minor or unclear offenses at least and if it is about breaking curfew or something like that, I usually accompany the students back to their common room... I am not much one for giving detentions because that also takes away from my free-time so I avoid giving them if I don't think they are necessary," he offered with a grin. "Though I remember one detention, I believe someone had broken curfew and as I mentioned I would have just accompanied them back to their common room, but instead they decided to cause a distraction with the fire-making spell and run away and so I had them serve a detention for destruction of property and breaking curfew... not that interesting I guess?", he gave an awkward shrug.
