Fate would favor the Flipendo. A staple spell of the format seemed to have found itself the star of this bout of magical mayhem.
Ravenclaw was not going to go out quietly. If they were to lose this match, they would lose it with style. There would be no drawing out the slow death that (most likely) awaited them, no, they would stand, and fight! Mars worked to rectify their last spell, an Incedio Duo, and throw it towards the wounded snake. And while they would not suffer at the hands of their own wand, the spell would go wide, and miss Ileen. The memories of last round still lingered on Mars though. Flames would lick at their flesh before finally fading away.
Robert would finally land another hit on Ileen. A well placed flipendo sent at the snake would strike her hard in the shoulder, hopefully throwing her off balance. Even if it was a bit late, a hit had to feel good. Some sort of consolation that he could indeed aim in the end.
Whatever satisfction Robert felt would be short lived. As Ileen moved to heal herself with a Reparifors, Bridget would provide covering fire. Bridget's own flipendo would slam into Robert moments after his connected with Ileen. He was out before he hit the floor. Galton's arm was up before that.
"PAUSE! Robert is down!" He yelled out as the medics ran to grab the unconscious Ravenclaw. Looking over at Mars, Galton almost thought to call the match - Mars looked so beat up, but they were still standing. The duel would go on. After a moment, with Robert carried away, Galton would yell once more. "RESUME!"

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 5
With a quick glance to her unharmed partner Bridget and the impression that Ravenclaw wasn’t doing too well on the health front, the young Slytherin decided to switch from offense to defense - more or less. She was well aware that she was on edge as the main target. She probably wouldn’t take much more before she passed out.
So, trusting in her partner to be the damage dealer once more, Ileen flicked her precious chestnut wand and spoke the healing words.
Relief. A warm and comforting feeling of relief waved over her body as she felt the injured skin recovering. The burning and piercing pain from the flames was taken away from her.
But she didn’t allow herself to relax or lose focus. They were still in the middle of a duel after all and it wasn’t quite over yet. Just in time she shifted her attention back to the events and thus barely managed to dodge another of Mars’ burning spells. Slightly cursing, she took a better stand, prepared for more attacks coming her way. And indeed - just a second later a well aimed flipendo crashed into her shoulder and pushed all the air out of her lungs. Robert had been faster than she had expected him to.
Gritting her teeth to suppress another painful hiss, she looked at the young boy - apparently just in time to see his end for this duel. Bridget's vengeance came fast and hard. The boy was knocked out and Ileen’s eyes widened as she watched him going down on the stage.
Sympathy swapped over her and she could barely hold back. Her instincts told her to rush to his side and inspect his injuries. But not yet. It wasn’t the time yet. Although she had been in the privileged position to win many duels so far, she couldn’t get used to the guilt and pain she felt when someone got knocked out.
Her hand was trembling as she inhaled to calm herself. “Great aim. You are a goddess.” This praisal was genuinely meant for her partner. Ileen used the time with the duel pause to express her awe for her. And to take her mind off things.
Her dark brown eyes returned to the lonely raven as the stage was opened once more. And suddenly, she was very calm. Like a panther on the hunt.

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 5

She and Ileen were in a very good spot. It was clear that they had the momentum; Ravenclaw had been pushed back onto their heels, forced multiple times to dodge instead of cast. But for as good as their position was, it was vulnerable, fatigue and pain evident in Ileen. It could hardly be blamed, her teammate having taken all of Ravenclaw's fire. For that, Bridget was in full support of Ileen's decision to turn her wand to heal herself, even trying to encourage it with a quick nod.
And while she recovered, Bridget would do her best to cover for her, to at least give their opponents something to deal with. Casting unopposed was a little too easy, after all. As another bout of fire and the telltale blue bolt of a Knockback Jinx rushed toward Ileen, Bridget returned the favor and nailed Robert.
She was moving to look at Ileen, to check if she was fine after taking that Flipendo, but her attention snapped back to Robert as she realized he was falling. Falling to the platform, down and out. She had known he was looking worse for wear, definitely nearing his limit, but it wasn't always easy to gauge how much more someone could take. Evidently, one more hit had been the case for Robert. Galton called for the duel to pause and she lowered her wand.
Her eyes stayed on Robert for a moment, a pause to show respect and to ensure he was safely transported off, since the sight of someone unconscious, while familiar, was still a bit concerning. The moment passed, and she turned back to Ileen. The younger girl looked a little worn at the edges even after her healing spell, but she looked like she had fight left in her and that was all they needed.
A light blush would creep into her cheeks at Ileen's praise--she'd never been called a goddess before. "Thank you." Her voice came lighter than it usually did while she donned her captain hat. She searched for a moment for a suitable compliment to return, but Ileen had focused on their remaining opponent. It could wait for after the duel; Bridget did the same, contemplating Mars. They looked rough, that backfired Incendio clearly having taken its toll. As they'd said, though, they wouldn't be going out without a fight, and Bridget would hope for nothing less.

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 5

English ⋆ ParseltongueAh, this was hysterical. Mars bit back the laughter bubbling in the back their throat as they watched Robert's Flipendo hit home.
"Good on you, Rob!" they called. A second later, he hit the piste. Mars couldn't laugh, they couldn't. But boy, they wanted to. Duel like this put them through a rollercoaster of emotions--the five stages of grief, they supposed. It was just funny--so hopeless, it was funny.
Mars spun their wand in hand, taking the briefest second to relax as Robert was ushered away. Huh. Had they ever stood here alone?
They gritted their teeth and grinned, flashing a smile at the Snakes. Ah, well.
'Sorry, Taea,' they thought, refusing to look at the snake, 'Guess I was lying.' They thought, maybe, they could hear the faintest sound of a hiss, the barest sound of scales on tile. But then, the battle was back on.
[ Home, they said. I should like to go home. ]

By all accounts, Galton thought that Mars would be out this round. One against two and on the verge of unconsciousness? It was probably everyone's bet - maybe even Mars themselves bet. But while odds were against Mars, there was still a chance, however slim it may be.
Fate would begin to unwind as Bridget went to cast. While the duelist seemed protected against backfires, they were not protected from failure outright. A complicated spell chosen to finish the Raven off would not come to fruition. The words "Petrificus Totalus" would fill the air, tension rising as they awaited the shot. Galton even held his breath. But there would be no magic, the cast would fizzle and fail. Galton took a breath after an awkward moment. It seemed that Mars was safe from one of the snakes.
But there was another snake laying coiled and ready to strike. Ileen would try and shoot a Rictusempra at Mars. And try as she might, Ileen would not harm Mars. No - Ileen would have her spell shot backwards at herself. The tiny magic tickling hands would work their evil magic on their own caster. Laughter from Ileen would be the only sound, the stands too bewitched to even whisper.
And then there was Mars, the lone Raven. Merlin had smiled upon them it seems. Was it payback for previous misfortune? Or just some spice to keep things interesting?
Whatever it was, it had Galton more and more on the edge of his seat. Mars would cast another Incedio Duo at Ileen, this time taking advantage of the chaos and locking in their aim. Ileen would not be able to escape the fire. Once more, flames would take hold of a duelist.
Galton's hand was almost up, ready to pause and clear a wounded duelist. He thought it was impossible to get someone closer to unconsciousness than Mars, but he was wrong. Ileen was somehow still awake. The healing from last round had truly saved her. Galton was standing at this point, he had run out of edge to his seat. Mars had defied all odds, the match would go on!

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 5
She felt it. Seconds before it happened she felt how the magic in her own wand turned against her. Ileen had wanted to show mercy and chose a spell that didn’t deal too much pain. Mars looked like they were barely keeping balance anymore so she wanted to choose one of the attacks that wouldn’t hurt them much more.
But her wand had different plans anyway. It mirrored what had happened to the Raven and sent her spell right back at her.
It felt like a thousand small hands were running over her body and the laugh that wanted to burst out pressed painfully against her lungs and throat.
All in all it wasn’t Ileen‘s winning round. Struggling with her own spell she was way too slow to dodge the attack that came her way and on top of the hands, biting flames ran over her body.
She felt it. She felt that she was on edge of fading out. Without her own first aid she would already be next to Robert in the hospital wing. At least Bridget was alright.

In the pause brought by Robert's removal, Bridget had plenty of time to stare down her remaining opponent. By the time Galton was calling for resume, she was pretty sure Mars really was on the verge of collapse. It was why she switched away from the Knockback Jinxes that were getting rather repetitive, anyway. Most of your options to deal damage to your opponent would be overkill, but she knew of one that wasn't. She wagered the fall from Petrificus Totalus would be enough to do the trick. And even if it wasn't, the time she was frozen could be used to recenter, to heal Ileen, and to gather their focus for finishing blows.
The incantation left her mouth, but nothing produced from her wand. She had been overthinking it, letting concerns of being gentle get in the way of doing the most rational thing. Such things did not belong on the duelling platform. It was because of mistakes like these that Bridget could never think of herself as goddess-like.
Her failed spell was already enough, an embarrassment and a missed opportunity, but not the end of the world. But whatever controlled the strings of this world decided to go further. Bridget saw it first in the corner of her vision, and turned fully to witness Ileen's Tickling Charm blow up in her face at the same moment another horrible bout of fire caught her clothes.
On instinct, she reached for Ileen's arm--she was going to fall--but stopped herself, hand stalled halfway because this was a duel, and Ileen had to be able to stand on her own, and because she hadn't fallen. Somehow, miraculously, her partner still stood, though she looked just as bad as Mars did, just as ready to be blown over by a strong enough gust of wind. It reminded her of how close they'd come to losing Santario in chess combat, except they didn't have a whole team of five behind them this time. The fourth year, to anyone looking on from the crowd, would look pained for Ileen. She should have just done what she was used to, supposed to, and perhaps this duel would be over, Mars being carried off rather than Ileen being seconds from fainting.

Mars T'ien
ReducioMars T'ien missed their post.

Two would cast, and two would go down. Fate would continue to frown on the only duelist who would be left standing once the magic settled.
Casting in such a duel, left without a scratch, or even a spell sent at them, would eat away at Bridget's head it seemed. Once again she would save herself from her own flipendo, the magic on the verge of disaster held back. But she would not be able to save her aim with raw talent and technique. Mars would be able to move out of the way. The exhausted looking duelist still awake, every second precious. Casting would seem too difficult for Mars, fighting the blackness would be the only thing they could do.
But where they had stepped to avoid a flipendo, they would find tickling. Ileen had used her fleeting conciousness to take her opponent down with her. Snake and Raven locked in a death spiral, headed right for the hospital wing. The same spell that would soon put Ileen to sleep would hit Mars. Ileen's rictusempras taking both targets down. A single bout of laughter would erupt from Mars before their lights went out.
A giggle would accompany Ileen too, as her body gave out from both the tiny magic hands and the very real flames. Galton had been stage side since before the duelists had even started casting. Any good moderator knew the likelihood of what had just happened. "STOP!" He yelled out as he ran on stage with the medical teams. Depending on their speed they may have even gotten to the duelists before their heads hit the stage floor. "Mars T'ien is out! With one duelist still standing victory goes to... SLYTHERIN!"
Before following the medics to the hospital wing to check on all wounded duelists, Galton would approach the untouched Bridget Collins. "Hereeee you go! Well earned to say the least." Galton would say as he handed over a Liquorice Wand with a smile. Then he would toddle off to give the wounded duelists their own candy prizes.

Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 5
Ileen noticed Bridget's reaction, her concern and look. How relieving would it be to get healed? Very. She never doubted a second that her partner would do that for her. But the battle was almost over and it would take too much power and time to keep her on her feet. Time to end the suffering for both of them. Mars and Ileen.
So, the young girl caught the gaze of her co-captain and slightly shook her head. She was sure it was written all over her face. She didn’t want to get healed. She wanted to finish this. Bridget was still unscratched and the young Slytherin was sure she would win. No matter what. Mars and her were both just struggling to stay on their feet.
It felt like she was captured in slow motion. She saw Bridget’s Flipendo miss the Ravenclaw and the burning and tickling were taking the rest out of her. There was no energy left, not even to feel pain. Her whole body went numb.
Already shaking she spoke her last spell. The same that backfired. Then everything went black. She still heard a giggle. Did that mean she had landed a hit? A forced laugh, caused by the tickling hands, left her body and then she dropped on the stage. Well, at least she had given everything. That, at least, was a peaceful thought.
