Summer Camp Mysterious Maze Group 8 Closed

Serena exhaled softly, relieved when she noticed the light of the flames suddenly appearing. She disliked what it showed her - the grossness of everything around them. However, it was far better than being stuck in the pit in the dark. The smell was overwhelmingly disgusting, though.

She quickly looked at the walls, taking in the walls. Her companions suggested climbing the walls, moving towards them. How the hell was she supposed to- She stared at the walls. Her thin arms did not carry much strength in them. She knew that. How could she climb the walls.

But she did not really have a choice. If she delayed too much, she would sink further in. "Alright, let's get the hell out of here," She tried to manipulate the bluebell flames upwards, giving the other girls as much light as she could to climb.

She had a plan. She wanted to levitate herself out of the pit. Perhaps if she could grip something like the root and then levitate that, she could probably get herself out. But... the flames required concentration and she was not sure if she could do all of that before the light went out. At this point, they needed all of the light they could get if they wanted to figure out how to get out of the pit.

So... She tucked the rock friends into her pockets, shoved her wand into her waistband too and attempted to start climbing the wall.

The situation in the pit was a bit grim. Other than some beautiful flames being maintained by Serena, it was a dingy place with a more than questionable scent. Deciding they would all attempt to escape like barbaric muggles, the girls decided it was time for a climb! But perhaps it showed a bit of bravery on their part. To face down the challenge head on.

Young Haley was telling herself to get a grip and perhaps she should have taken that advice to heart. As all three girls decided they would attempt the climb, they would quickly realize the slippery walls were no easy feat. Haley was able to work her way about halfway up the wall before she would feel the horrifying sensation of her grip failing. Once Haley began to slip, there was no recovery. Again Haley would find herself plummeting down into the muck with an audible splash.

Irina, on the other hand, demonstrated a keen talent for climbing. As if it was something she had done hundreds of times. The girl seemed to find the perfect path up the vertical wall to pull herself up. Bit by bit, Irina climbed her way up. Roots and rocks became essential footholds and handholds as she made her way to the safety of the top. Her arms would perhaps feel a bit sore but she had made it out of the pit.

Regardless of her own ability, no one could deny the heart of Serena. Her decision to maintain light for the group as they tried to climb kept her from being able to use any other spell. Serena was clearly a brilliant witch and a fine friend to the rock friends who were safely tucked into her pocket...However, Serena was not exactly the strongest of beings. A straight vertical climb while focusing on maintaining a complicated spell was a significant challenge. It would not take very long into the climb for Serena to realize, she was perhaps not ready to free climb this.

Stepping wrong, the girl slipped and found herself careening backwards down to the smelly embrace of the mushy fruit. Falling headfirst, Serena would take a deep dive into the mush. Her spell bluebell flames flickered out casting the chamber into darkness with the broken concentration. A couple of her rock friends feared they might be jostled loose but held on… It would be challenging to breathe while submerged in the sludge. However, plummeting deeper into the mush would reveal a hidden opening in the wall beside her. As if, under all the sludge there was a doorway. Unable to see while submerged, Serena wouldn’t be able to see where it went. But it could be a way to freedom or an even greater doom.

Available Directions:
Haley - Trapped in the pit and slowly sinking
Irina - Continue Forward or Try to help your companions in the pit
Serena- Remain in the pit or wiggle through the sludge into the hidden doorway

How to Navigate the Maze

1. Each round you can choose an available direction to travel or to take a different action.
2. Each moderation will list the available directions for each student.
3. You can choose to stay as a group or wander off on your own. But if you are alone...beware of the orange.
4. Depending on the paths chosen, you may encounter challenges or changes within the maze.
5. Stats will be used in this tread and thus you will need to ensure they are in your trunk.
6. There will be a moderation post at least once a week. Quicker moderations will be done if all active participants have replied.
7. If a participant misses two weeks of moderation, it will be assumed they decided to take a nap and will be removed from the maze for their safety!
8. As always...clothing will be required in this thread!

August 10th, 2021

Climbing out of a stinky pit was no easy task. Irina was going to try her hardest because if she made it out than she would be back on track to finishing the maze. After all, that was the main goal, to escape the maze and go back to trying to comprehend the deaths with Nate.

Watching Haley try and get out of the pit, Irina tried to make note of where to step and grab onto. Then, in the blink of an eye, Haley was back inside the pit at square one. “Are you okay?!” Irina called out at Haley. She didn’t want anyone to get hurt and needed to make sure that Haley was okay before leaving her.

Upon a response, Irina would start the climb herself. Using Haley’s route while avoiding certain roots, Irina used all of her upper body strength to reach the top. Panting a little, Irina took a few deep breaths in and out before her light source was abruptly cut off. That meant that either Serena was in trouble or that Serena had stuck it into the muck.

Trying to figure it out from her vantage point, Irina realized that she couldn’t really see anything so let out a cry of, “Lumos Maxima!” to try and brighten up the area again. Noting that the two girls were still down there, Irina reached her other non-wand hand into the pit in hopes that it she would be able to use it to help pull Haley or Serena out.

Action: Casting Lumos and trying to help the others get out

Haley climbed up the wall, quickly noticing that the handholds were slippery, and looked down over her shoulder uncertainly. A fall would not be very dangerous, but not pleasant either. She could only hope that she would not slip. But that was exactly what happened. The young Gryffindor had just reached the halfway point, looking up hopefully, when her next grip plunged her back into ruin. She slipped off the handle and fell the climbed distance back into the mud. Her heart slipped into her pants as she realised she was losing her footing. But she had no chance to save herself somehow. She closed her eyes in shock and waited for the impact to be felt.

"Argh." She cursed as she found herself in the mud again and looked up at Irina who, unlike her, had made it. "I'm fine." She called out to her and straightened up again. "I'll try again." She continued, somehow trying to wipe her hands on her, took a few breaths and stood in front of the wall again. Again she began to climb, trying even more carefully to choose her next holds and have a secure grip. But it seemed that each subsequent hold was even more slippery than the one before. What else could Haley do, she had to try and if she fell again, she would have to try again. Until she finally reached the top.

With Irina already safely above the pit, she would have been able to scurry off deeper in the maze. But she, perhaps intelligently, wanted to make sure that her companions were not entirely lost within the festering pit. Her Lumos would give a decent amount of light for her companions to again try to scale the treacherous wall of the pit.

Haley would step up to try her luck at climbing out of the pit once more. Just as before, the walls were slick with no clear footholds. Each small bit that Haley was able to climb threatened to toss her off and back into the fruit. Just as Haley could feel her grip slipping, the free hand of Irina would reach down close enough for Haley to grasp it. Working together, Haley was able to scramble her way to safety. It wasn’t a pretty climb but Haley was now safely above the pit beside Irina. Serena was no where to be seen, lost from view in the fruit.

The girls would have to decide their next move. Would they catch their breath from the climbing or press forward into the maze not knowing what might be to come.

Serena cursed under her breath for a split second as she slipped. Quickly, she shut her mouth though as she found herself drowning in the pit of smelly... whatever it was, again. Her light went out but there was no way she could climb that way. She saw something that looked like it might actually be an opening in the wall though... Perhaps another way through. One that seemed like it might be safer if they could not climb the wall.

As quickly as she could, she tried to kick her feet, trying to resurface for a second. "I think there's a tunnel under this crap. I'm going to try and go that way. Climb out if you can," She would say to the other two girls. If they fell or were also stuck in the pit and unable to get out, perhaps they could use the tunnel. That was her logic. If they knew it was there, they might be able to use it. But she could not do much less as she could barely see anything.

Either way, she inhaled deeply before diving back in and trying to find the tunnel again. If she could, she would attempt to get through the hidden doorway with her rock friends. Did she want to be separated from the other two girls? Hell no, but there was no way she could climb up and they seemed to be doing better than her at that. Hopefully, they could meet up right outside this. Besides, she was not truly alone right! She had her rock friends and they were adorable, right?

With her newly lit wand, Irina was able to see Haley trying to scale the wall again but still couldn’t see Serena within the pit. She felt a little bit nervous for Serena but deep down knew that the almost fifth year would probably be able to figure something out. Anyways, the girl had armor and rock friends, if she couldn’t get out than probably no one could. Speaking of the girl, Irina heard a small noise coming from her direction. Irina tried to strain her ears to hear but couldn’t make out most of it, the only thing she did hear was tunnel and try. Hopefully Serena had found her own way that didn’t involve climbing.

Turning her attention back to Haley, Irina watched as the girl tried so hard to climb up the sides of the pit. Mentally cheering her on, Irina watched her preform a great feat of perseverance. They saw stuff like this regularly at the conservatory but it was a bit weird to see a Hogwarts student do it. Irina had this idea in her head that all Hogwarts students wanted was to create drama but maybe she needed to change that. Nevertheless, when Haley was very close to the top, Irina grabbed her hand and helped her get completely out of the pit.

Letting out a breath she didn’t know that she was holding, Irina adjusted herself so that she was facing away from the pit and spoke to Haley. “Nice work there, I’ve never seen a Hog student so that much perseverance before. Now I guess we just continue moving towards a hopeful exit.” She said kindly to Haley while starting to move away from pit.

With rock friends guiding her way, Serena decided she would try her hand at the secret passage she had discovered. Not knowing where it would go could be potentially dangerous but nothing was too terrifying for the girl. Back within the festering fruit, Serena would be able to find her way to the door. It was a challenge for the diminutive girl to actually pull the door open with the resistance of the fruit, but the girl managed it. Undoubtedly with the aid of the rock friends.

Upon opening the door, there would be a very narrow staircase through the soil that climbed up to a grass covered trap door.Serena’s shoulders would press against the tight confines of the passage but she was able to quickly scamper up the rising passage. Serena would be able to easily push the door open which spit her out on the pathway they had fallen from and several feet away from where Haley was..

Looking to her right, she would be able to see the tunnel and pit that had once been his prison. The stench of rotting fruit still emanates from the abyss. But to the left, the path looked clear and ready the adventurers to press closer towards the exit. Just as Serena emerged from the ground like a suspicious mole person, her companion Irina started their way down the path to the left to continue her journey.

After taking a moment to enjoy her freedom, Irina was ready to move forward. She had overcome one major obstacle and was likely hoping that there would not be many more to contend with. Turning to the left, Irina would not need to wander far before coming across something strange. Rounding a corner, Irina would find himself at the entrance to a large circular chamber.

Standing at the threshold, the room looked rather barron. There was not the fog that plagued the other pathways, which allowed for mostly clear visibility. The chamber itself was unusually large and on the far end they would be able to see two closed doors on the hedge. The doors were a bit too far in the dim light to make out any detail, but they appeared to be made of wood. Beyond that, there was nothing to distinguish the chamber. But if Irina listened closely, she would hear a very faint sound of running water. It was unclear where the sound was coming from but there was a faint trickle that would dance its way into the girl’s ear.

Irina- Turn Back or Continue Forward into the chamber

Haley looked up, it wasn't far, but the handholds were slippery. With each step she hoped she wouldn't slip again, but with each small step she became more motivated. And when she was near the end, a hand came towards her, which she grasped more than gratefully. She had made it, thanks to Irina's help.

"Thank you!" gasped Haley exhaustedly as she finally reached the top with Irina's help and was spared another fall. It took her a few breaths to recover from the exertion. It seemed Serena had found her own way and it was Irina and Haley who were now left behind on that path. "Thanks." She laughed, still a little exhausted, at Irina's compliment. "You did great too." She returned, looking at the path ahead of them. "I guess you're right." Agreed the redhead and made her way straight ahead as well.

Haley didn't know what to expect, but she hoped it wouldn't be any more stinky baths and she hoped even more that the end was nearer. She noticed the strain in her bones and was already looking forward to a warm shower, a cosy bed and just sleeping. But that was still in the future, Haley didn't know how far, but that only motivated her to increase her speed to hopefully reach the way out of this labyrinth sooner.
